Another two Irish proverbs for Obama. Funny how applicable they are.

Mura n’éiríonn leat an chéad uair, faigh réidh leis an bhfianaise go ndearna tú aon iarracht.
If at first you don’t succeed, remove all evidence you ever tried.

Bíodh a fhios agat cad iad do chuid teorainneacha agus bí sásta leo. Ciallaíonn barraíocht uaillmhianta ardú céime chuig post nach mbeidh tú in ann aige.
Know your limitations and be content with them. Too much ambition results in promotion to a job you can’t do.

.....
Tell Wolf to give us a break. We want issues: like the true state of the economy, status of new energy projects, the care we are giving our returning veterans and who is putting up roadblocks. Candidates character issues are valid, I'd like to know what they have actually done in their lives, not who they have tangentially rubbed shoulders with.

The framework the traditional media uses has been warped by laziness for too long. Ask Wolf to do his job, not read news releases as if they are facts.

I wasn't aware that are Ayers/Obama documents. People have been trying to get ahold of them for a while....
Obama’s Ties to Ayers Come Up Again

William Ayers—and his ties to Barack Obama—have re-emerged as an issue this week after Stanley Kurtz recounted Aug. 18 in the conservative National Review how he was unable to access 132 boxes of records of internal files for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge stored at the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where Ayers is a professor.
....
Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass today picked up on Kurtz’s lengthy account about his inability to access the records. “The relationship between the ambitious Obama and the unrepentant Ayers is a subject that excites Republicans, who haven’t really thwacked that pinata as hard as they might,” Kass wrote. “It really irritates Obama and his political champion, Chicago’s sovereign lord, Mayor Richard M. Daley.”

The Chicago Tribune pressed Daley Wednesday on whether the documents should be released.

Somehow I'm suspicious that CNN is going to be the ones to break the story.

Read todays Investors Business Daily.
Lead article is about O's ties to the " Peoples Weekly World"
Even Castro likes him and said so last spring.
The party is not over yet.

Funny you should mention Castro....

Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'
Editor, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond, VA - July 7, 2008
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said "Praise the Lord." And when the young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America? Would we?

Here is this letter set in a video...Very powerful!

I was amazed how far to the left this article was slanted.

In right-leaning Texas, support for the death penalty and the state's tough "law-and-order" approach remains high, with advocates arguing the punishment is just, deters crime and provides comfort to victims' families.

In Texas we decided that the just punishment for taking a life will be for the offender to forfeit theirs....not to make the family feel better.

I saw a merchant in the PX at the base I'm mobilizing at selling "African-American attire." He had several Obama shirts for sale, one disgustingly putting him right next to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There was another one, though, that caught my eye and made me laugh. There was a cariacture of The One (strangely enough, without the dumbo ears), and behind him were two words repeated over and over and over again... "Hope" "Change." It's a parody and it doesn't even realize it.

Is it? What office is Ayers pursuing?

If you want to run an ad tying Obama to Ayers you can do it. This one does it poorly and on top of that mistake loads in some 9/11 references to make the Ayers/Obama links move to 'inside the cover'.

To tie together Ayers and Obama you've got to leave all this nonsensical information on the editing table. Stay focused on a single message and it will work.

Fine, remember 9/11 all you want in your ads. But 9/11 and the freaking Weatherman?

You're throwing too many chips into the pile at one time. Pace yourself.

The Ayers interview was published on 9/11 by the NYT. It just it's not remembering 9/11, Ayers said that in an interview, which then was published hours before the terrorist attacks took place.

Mayor Daley has ordered the Annenberg Foundation documents sealed. Obama chaired it, Ayers was on the board with him. They are in the UIC library, a public university.

My daughter was at a party in Chicago where she met Ayers a couple of years ago. Ayers told her that he babysat the Obama children. It is a veryclose relationship.

I would strongly question Daley's authority to seal documents at all, much less documents that are held by the state rather than the city of Chicago.

You shouldn't do that.

This ad is produced by "American Issues". The McCain camp should be three states away from this group. You don't pile on top of an ad from a 501(c)4 with one from the actual campaign. That's political suicide.

Fine. OK. Then the 501c group should make the response. The point still remains -- Obama's defenders and the MSM will try to spin this ad as only "guilt-by-association". The 501c should be ready with an immediate reply to the spin.

What I am hoping for at this point is that people who were at school with him will start speaking up. Ideally someone from Columbia or Harvard will step forward and say they knew him and he was glib and unproductive even then. The best would be if someone else wrote his papers or someone credibly claims he got some other improper assist.

We can't hear from his former coworkers because: 1. he never really held a job, 2. The people he encountered in his community organizing days are committed ideologues unless they have left the movement, 3. Some of the faculty at the University of Chicago Law school have indicated that he was an uncollegial adjunct and faculty tend to be isolated from each other to a greater extent than most people think. Academics cooperate with research graduate students who they mentor in doctoral programs but do little cooperative work with other academics. As an adjunct Obama did not work with advanced students doing dissertation research and he of course produced no original research of his own.

Maybe you know something more about where Barack Obama was on the day of 9/11 attacks. I haven't read or seen Obama say anything about where he was on that day.

Perhaps logical argument is not your strong suit. Let me see if I can explain this to you. The one mention of 911 refers to United flight 93, the one that everyone feels was headed for the Capitol. They then go on to talk about something that younger people may not know: that the US Capitol, the US Pentagon and several police statiions were in fact bombed during the 60's, specifically by Bill Ayers, his wife and some of their friends, working together in a known communist front group, the Weather Underground aka Weathermen. Some of the Weathermen are still in jail - at least two cops were killed - but Bill Ayers escaped punishment on a technicality. Which of course does not mean that he isn't guilty.

Now, all of this might not hurt Obama much with the under 40 crowd, but I can guarantee you that you will not find a living soul in this country who was here in the 60's who does not remember the Weather Underground. Right up there with Sirhan Sirhan and the like. We vote.

I think the 9/11 images are bait.

It gives the O an avenue of counter attack. But once he lunches it, it draws more attention to what is the thrust of the ad - that he is buddies with a self professed terrorist who is on record saying he wanted to do more, and that record was in place when Obama continued his association with Obama.

The Dems are certain that Lurch would have won if he had been combative early on the whole swift boat thing. Obama will vigorously counter attack on 9/11 and people will examine Ayers and see if the attack is fair or not. The 9/11 association becomes a minor infraction compared to the size of the real issue - that Obama hangs with hard core leftists.

His role as board chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge is the most important executive experience Obama has held to date. Given this, the public has an urgent right to know what is in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records." - Stanley Kurtz

re: #359 buzzsawmonkey

I don't recall; I do not think so.

We tend to think of "gangsters"--classic gangsters, that is, rather than modern-day gangbangers--as Italian, because of the fame of Al Capone and one or two other big names, and, of course, the popularity of the Godfather films. In the '20s and '30s, there were a number of Jewish gangs and gangsters; the Purple Gang in Detroit, Arnold Rothstein ("the Brain" in the Damon Runyon stories, and the man who fixed the 1919 World Series), Dutch Schultz in Harlem, Bugsy Siegel, Lepke Buchalter (creator of Murder, Inc.), Meyer Lansky, Longy Zwillman. The oh-so-respectable Bronfman family, which owns Seagram's, made its money supplying Prohibition-era booze from the Canadian side.

Moe Annenberg was one of these; he ran wires for bookies, which is where he made his money. His son Walter became respectable--unlike the Italian gangsters of the same era, the Jewish gangsters for the most part tried to get their children into legitimate fields of endeavor--but the Annenberg fortune, attached nowadays to many charitable causes, has its roots in the gangsterism of the 1920s.

Random House says in a recent statement it first decided to postpone publication, and then reached a termination agreement with Jones, because of " ... cautionary advice not only that the publication of this book might be offensive to some in the Muslim community, but also that it could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment." The book details Aisha's life in Muhammad's harem, the custom in those ancient times.

re: #376 buzzsawmonkey

There is a terribly ill-written, but nonetheless interesting, book called "Tough Jews," which provides background on a number of the now-all-but-forgotten Jewish gangs and gangsters.

I will hunt it up as soon as I am done wading through schoolbooks for the kiddo. We're doing Modern Times, so WWI and WWII and a bit of Russian history since you cannot understand I, II or Cold without a smattering, and we are tackling the Holocaust. I pre-read everything so I have a stack of book about two feet high to wade through.

By sheer miracle I have managed to acquire just one too bad to use and too bad to sell books for my "they should be burned" shelf thus far. Though I did come across a book about the Holocaust that I know I would have added had I been fool enough to order it.

I have been thinking about this.

If a no confidence vote comes through then hillary becomes the candidate and McCain is caught flat footed with all money tied up in fighting paper tiger obama.

Don't worry. If Barry's nomination doesn't happen then the 95% of black votes that Democrats depend on in many swing states will evaporate completely. They won't vote for McCain, but they will stay home. Hillary will take some of the middle from McCain but not a lot (she is still a polarizing figure to many). The one thing that could sink McCain in this scenario would be a higher than expected turnout in the female vote.

Stanley Kurtz of National Review arranged with the Richard J Daley lbrary to see boxes of documents on the Annenberg Challenge that Barry & Ayers worked on. Kurtz wants to see what kind of relationship Ayers & Obama had.
When he arrived they told him that they could not get the donors permission & therefore access was denied. It's a public institution, how could trhe donor deny anything? ?

That magic word "donor" almost certainly implies that somebody took a tax deduction on the value of the paperwork. "Charitable donation" and all that. Pretty much the same way Hillary donated Bill's underwear and took $7 off their reported income.

If access to the records is being blocked, imho it's no longer a legal donation and the so-called donor owes back taxes. In fact since they're getting free high-quality document storage, they ought to be reporting an equivalent extra income.

BHO, meet IRS. They're the ones who'll be helping you solve world poverty ;-).

If you're doing the Holocaust, Goldhagen's "Hitler's Willing Executioners" and Lucy Dawidowicz (sp?) book "The War Against the Jews" are excellent material.

I'll add those two to my resource list.

The kiddo is only 11 - thus far I absolutely will use Hana's Suitcase, Diary of Anne Frank and a couple of other things I'm waiting for. Not Night - that I think is too dark for 6th grade.

History stuff for kids these days is wildly variable. Some of it is crap, some really leftist crap, and some cut from whole cloth, like a book about a young boy in the Holocaust I came across today that starts out I am Jewish and I am Christian. I look at about 100 books for every one I buy. Even then about 1 out of 30 ends up being so bad that it goes on my "Should be burned" shelf.

Just perverse in the end imo.

Eleven is young--but I was reading Robert Graves' versions of the Greek myths by the time I was 12, so reading serious grown-up books along with the easier stuff is not impossible at a young age. Both books I mentioned are serious, grown-up stuff, but there's a thrill at that age to being able to successfully tackle such things even if it is only partially comprehended.

Oh her comprehension and reading skills are not a problem. She reads things like The Incredible Universe for "fun." I'm re-reading this comment and.. it doesn't read right. I'm in S. GA and it's humid here all of the time... makes you feel like you've been sweating all day even if you just got a shower... dirty... Maybe I'm reading too much into my own comment... sorta embarrassed now...

re: #506 Noam Chumpski

When you can't correctly recount what happened in your own country just 10 years ago then, yes, you have to live in an alternate reality.

My best example at the moment: Liberals repeat that Clinton was impeached because of a BJ from an intern. When you explain that it was because of lying under oath you get the blank stare.

They have no memory of what happened. It's a unique thing to witness.

My Mother is a liberal. Her level of denial regarding historical facts is numbing. Facts mean nothing. She just gets mad when they are pointed out and they happen to be inconvenient to her 'cause'. My Dad isn't as bad, although once I sent him a link to MEMRI and he told me to quit sending him Republican propaganda. They are both highly educated people. Go figure.

Did LGF go out for a minute there? Was getting this error:MDB2 Error: connect failed

Intersting article on Obama's chicagto roots Union News

Seemed to have more information on the foundation information than most news stories on this.

My apologies if this have been linked already as I didn't read all the comments and have been trying to find this link from vague memories in the spring.

I hear you. Luckily my Dad clings to guns and religion and my Mom is starting to think that Obama could be the Anti-Christ (even though she points out that the Anti-Christ would be able to talk 'off prompter'). Parents!

Not in Cindy McCain's class...(sniff)

What gets me is that her two elementary school daughters' tuition is way more than most university tabs .... I think they pay about 30k a year for grade school. Nothing wrong with that normally, BUT OBama's against school choice,

By the way, my Dad is a PhD linguist and he thinks Chomsky stinks as a linguist. He may, however, agree with his politics. Never quite got the nerve to ask. We tend to avoid those types of conversations these days. He tends to be emotional and I was almost cut out of their lives in 2004 when I voted Republican for the first time in my life.

Dunno if it's been said, but today Obama declared that China was better as a country for industry than American and that we have a lot to learn from China on how to be productive.

Ah, that should endear him to the CIO. China's industries are so unionized.

Yeah. BHO lives across from the NOI mosque.

I even cringe at what is passed off as 'literature' or history in HS.

The best a parent can do is maintain a decent library at home and have their children read classics or good historical books in their spare time. Half an hour or so a night in addition to their homework.

This Ayers connection is suspicious, but the obviously cover up of those papers is downright frightening. The Chicago political machine is in full swing in protecting one of its own yet again.

Where are the journalists with the stones to get this uncovered? Stanley Kurtz from NRO is only going to get so far.

Will it take the National Enquirer reporters once again to get us the real story? /only half-sarc

Although Hannity drives me nuts sometimes with all his repetition, he HAS been dead on with airing the Jeremiah Wright and Ayers way before just about anyone else. Wonder how much behind-the-scenes digging - if any - his staff will do on this.

Obama bloviating earlier today...

Everybody's watching what's going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics , Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a coporation deciding where to do business you're starting to think, "Beijing looks like a pretty good option."

The idiot said this with a straight face and believed every damn word of it.

543 deanayer  Thu, Aug 21, 2008 7:35:33pm

How did we go from:

We are the ones we are waiting for! ( I mean the royal "we")
this is when they say the seas began to lower! (yes I am god)
this is when everything will begin to change! (or at least the second coming)

to:

put air in your tires (Im mr. goodwrench sans an energy policy)
thats above my pay grade (ok my resume IS a clean bar napkin)
dude you dont know how many houses you own? (playin the dozens yo).

its like we were told not to look behind the curtain but we did anyway.

When he speaks its clear he learned his entire public persona schtick from rev. Wright down to the cadence and the repetition - he wasn't at church he was at school learning how to impersonate who he thought were authentic "black folk". Like a cult leader he has to keep raising the stakes until its kool-aid time or get-on-the-comet time or whatever but he cant offer that up so it just ends with an unsatisfying fizzle because really where do you go after pledging to lower the sea? I will - no pun intend (smirk) - consider that the high water mark of his hyperbole and what do we get from him going forward? We either get petulance and fatigue from his Obamaness or he will go back to square one and ramp it back up - thats it, no where else to run. What's really amazing is that he was knocked off his dais by a simple poke in the ribs in the form of a Paris Hilton parody so he either has a totally glass jaw or even he knows he is full of it. I think he will get killed every time Mc Cain out-presidents him on the real world issues like Georgia etc. While Mc Cain looks cool and skilled Obama looks pedantic and facile. Keep up the good work Barry.

His whole background is Odd , Not many get to write Biographies about themselves at such a young age, with not much to say in substance, and have it published. His going to Pakistan. His rising out of no-where so quickly. I'm frustrated and at a loss what to think about his history re: rise to power.

He's a whiny little Marxist punk bit-player who got Made by the Soros-funded Democrat mafia because he's brown and he can talk. Everything else is whitewash. That's all you need to know.

I wish they had used the photograph of Ayers standing on the flag.

I agree totally! That picture makes me boil instantly.

Sorry if this was said already:

As much as I was disgusted by Jeremiah Wright and Fleger, this scumbag is much worse. And I think all you need to know about 'higher education' is the fact that this piece of human debris is a faculty member. My brain can't even complete the rationalizing gymnastics in order for that to make sense.

Two Irish proverbs

A good retreat is better than a bad stand.

A friend's eye is a good mirror.

If you lie down with dogs you'll rise with fleas. If you lie down with dogs you'll rise with fleas.

I know there's three, but who's counting when we have 57 States.

While not important a correct count of states based on BHO's words is 60.

He thought he had campainged in 57, was going to another and two had been ruled out by his staff. 57+1+2=60.

Houses are small, it is easy to get confused about how many one owns. Ask anyone who plays monopoly. But states?

554 MJBrutus  Fri, Aug 22, 2008 7:23:18am

555 wrpeach  Fri, Aug 22, 2008 8:14:25am

re: #149 Killgore Trout

It may not be Ayers but some that are connected to him. The question and next ad from the McCain team should be:

By the way Obama, Who is Mike Klonsky? Oh yeah, Klonsky was a hardline maoists in the SDS in the late 60’s, later forming a pro-Chinese sect called the October League that morphed into the Beijing-recognized Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) who is now a member of the Obama campaign.

556 countryjoe63  Fri, Aug 22, 2008 11:33:23am

It's McCain's election to lose. Remember, the real racists in this country are in the democrat party. The see a person's skin color above any and all qualificiations (of which Obama has none anyway). There's most likely a ton of democrats that just aren't going to vote for a black guy. Period.

557 Rancher  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 11:36:30pm

re: #556 countryjoe63
Many more are voting for him only because he is black. It's at least a wash IMHO. Through in the young good looking charismatic element and I still say he's going to win in November. People don't care about Ayers et all.
