This didn’t take long; the McCain campaign must have been ready with this video.

Great video. This should get some good mileage.

That is just the tip of the iceberg.

6 jcm  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:06:41am

Biden endorses McCain!
LMAO!

7 Killgore Trout  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:07:04am

Biden could not possibly have been Obama's first choice. I wonder how far down he was on Obama's list.

8 Occasional Reader  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:07:41am

That's gonna leave a mark.

Now, I'm sure Biden will issue a rebuttal explaining why the ad is all wrong. Should run about an hour and a half or so.

9 lawhawk  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:07:50am

Wait for the Obama campaign to call this video racist, a smear, and a mischaracterization of Biden's position.

10 FrogMarch  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:07:52am

I can't get it to play.

11 itellu3times  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:07:54am

Biden could not possibly have been Obama's first choice. I wonder how far down he was on Obama's list.

I think he wanted Kaine (Slingblade) but the polls from earlier this week which showed him getting spanked by McCain on foreign policy, experience/ready to lead & the economy scared him into changing his mind.

Don't you think that the Obama people knew that the had to find someone with even less gravitas than Obama, & this is the best that they could do?

14 maddogg  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:09:07am

Gee, you might get the impression they had anticipated all possibilities and had an ad for each ready to go. The McCain campaign has finally kicked the campaign wagon off the jacks and fired up a V8!

Blimey - I switch the PC on - get here, and two hot threads, one on the heel of the other, just like that!
I'm quite out of breath already ...

Good morning/afternoon/evening, Lizards, looks like its going to be a hot weekend (politics-wise, that is!).

17 Sharmuta  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:10:29am

Even the ap can't mask this:

Analysis: Biden pick shows lack of confidence

The candidate of change went with the status quo.

So the question is whether Biden's depth counters Obama's inexperience — or highlights it?

After all, Biden is anything but a change agent, having been in office longer than half of all Americans have been alive. Longer than McCain.

And he talks too much.

Is the msm-obama love affair over?

18 Pamela  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:10:30am

One advantage of living outside of USA, no political adverts, but boy they/Europe sure kick out the global warming message.

Terribly homesick.

19 SpartanWoman  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:10:30am

Beautiful! And I like the smug Obama holding back the anger shots while Biden is declaring him "not ready"

20 loppyd  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:10:31am

Caroline Kennedy wanted to pick someone Uncle Teddy would approve of....they had similar college experiences that's for sure.

Uncle Ted got busted cheating in college.

Biden also got busted cheating in college.

PERFECT!

I think their delayed announcement and 3 am text message shows the Obama campaign is not that organized. They might respond by late next week at best.

25 realwest  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:12:19am

Gee, y'all sure are being hard on old Joe. And I don't see why. Obama couldn't have made a better VP choice for McCain's campaign than he did with Biden.
Course that could be cause Obama and Biden have so much in Common. Obama is "Black" and Biden thinks he's Black, fresh, articulate and clean and they both have a tendancy to shove their foot down their throats every chance they get!

26 ConservativeSoldier  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:12:25am

Too funny. I wonder if some that Obama would have preferred backed out because they sense a McGovern-sized ass-whipping coming in November. Biden is pretty much the biggest windbag in the senate- don't see how he can help the ticket all that much.

35 lawhawk  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:14:00am

Ah, the DSCC has issued a statement, courtesy of Harry Reid:

Today is a great day for Democrats. We now have the ticket that's going to bring the change we've all been hoping for.

I join all of the members of the Senate Democratic caucus in congratulating Joe Biden - a great friend, a great Democrat, and now our party's nominee for Vice President.

This campaign is going to make history. Not only will we put Barack Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden, into the White House, but we're going to elect a filibuster-proof Senate majority that can and will pass the Democratic agenda.

This is the once-in-a-generation chance we've been waiting for.

Click here to join me in congratulating Joe Biden on entering this historic campaign and share with him the issues that are important to you.

Our party has never been more energized or more dedicated. Across the country, we have set records for voter registration and primary participation. In just a matter of hours, we'll gather in Denver for a Democratic convention that will demonstrate our amazing and growing strength for the final stretch before Election Day.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are on a path to bring sweeping change to this great country. Each and every committed Democrat stands proudly with them today and right on through Election Day. Together, we will take back the White House and elect the filibuster-proof Senate majority we need to bring that change.

Join me in making our success possible.

Sincerely,

Harry Reid

Sweeping change. Socialism.

You know something else? Biden is up for reelection this year. Is he going to pull a Lieberman and try to retain his seat, or is he going to go whole hog for the Obama ticket?

36 Sharmutah  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 8:14:11am

Although the ad is effective, McCain needs to continuously hammer home his policy on energy, Iran, etc., and remind voters the consequences of an Obama Presidency. McCain needs to define Obama before Obama define McCain.

More bad news for obama:

In Key Decisions, Voters Would Prefer McCain's Advice

These undecided voters will likely determine the presidential election outcome. So what do they feel in their guts about the two candidates? The FOX News poll tried to get at that question by asking: If you had to make the “toughest decision” of your life, who would you rather get advice from — Obama or McCain?

Based on that question, there are signs that undecided voters may be more inclined to move to McCain than to Obama. The largest number of undecideds – 38 percent – would rather get advice from McCain – that’s nearly three times as many as the 13 percent that would go to Obama. The remaining say “neither” (27 percent) or are unsure (18 percent).

Furthermore, independent voters pick McCain by a 15-point margin (41 percent – 26 percent).

I just don't see Biden as the guy who can turn this around for obama.

At what point did the Obama campaign label Biden a racist?

During a conversation with an Indian-American political activist, Biden said: "In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian-Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking."

Dr. Raghavendra Vijayanagar, popularly known in the Indian-American community as "Dr. Vijay," said this isn't the first time a Senate Democrat has insulted Indian-Americans.

"In 2004, Sen. John Kerry referred to Sikhs as terrorists and Sen. Hillary Clinton jokingly referred to Mahatma Gandhi as a gas station owner," Dr. Vijay said. "A clear double-standard in the mainstream media will likely ensure Sen. Biden gets a pass over these comments that would get a Republican in deep trouble if he ever made a similar statement.”

Vote Democratic...We're Not Racist...You Are!

Did he choose Biden because he got his a$$ kicked the last two weeks? Seems like it all started with the Obama World Tour 2008, topped off with the Russian invasion of Georgia. Hopefully McCain is smart enough to not pick a VP who might have said similar things about McCain. That ad is short and to the point.

I don't understand this at all. Even with all the money you know Soros is pouring in, the once vaunted Democrat machine seems like its being run by total neophytes. Did all the adults get booted? Pack up and leave? What?

Actually, I think Soros got bored, and is now putting all his energy into getting Russia on her knees, business-wise.
After all, he did put resources into Saakashvili's Rose Revolution ...
(Putin better watch out.)

Soros probably also saw the signs about his BO not getting any traction and probably cut his losses early. He's a businessman, after all, looking mainly after himself

Good morning to you {rw}! Well to be fair, I've been warming up since 1:00AM EASTERN time which is when Obama's campaign - with it's usual stellar sense of timing - told everyone it was Biden.
We've actually been cheering, partying, carrying on
discussing this since about 11:00 Pacific time!

Obama's campaign somehow lost control of the release of Biden's name - that or they were afraid that if Biden had enough time to think about it, he'd refuse it - and so it came out at about the worst possible time for a news cycle!
And the end result was WE at LGF knew about this before those dunces with their text messaging (and giving Obama their credit card numbers!) found out about it! LOL!

Biden’s lobbying ties

(Via Hot Air)

Biden has accepted $5,133,072 in contributions from lawyers and lobbyists since 2003. Obama does not accept contributions from federally registered lobbyists.
And he has one other weakness that hasn’t received much attention to date. One of Biden’s sons, Hunter, is a registered Washington lobbyist in a year in which Obama has been excoriating lobbyists and the culture of corruption in Washington. The younger Biden is a name partner at the firm Oldaker, Biden & Belair, LLP, and seems to have specialized in lobbying for just the kind of earmark spending by Congress that Obama has vowed to slash. Republican insiders say the party is likely to make an issue of Biden’s family lobbying ties.
Also expect to hear more about Biden’s close ties with credit card companies. His largest contributor (based on total contributions by employees) over the past five years has been MBNA, the Delaware-based bank aquired in 2005 by Bank of America than until then was the world’s largest independent credit card issuer and a major supporter of the 2005 bankruptcy bill that Biden crossed the aisle to support.

Good question.....
McCain, Romney take new stands on McCain, Romney

To McCain, Romney was the guy who took “at least two positions on every issue,” a manager rather than a leader. During their fierce primary contest in Florida, McCain demanded Romney apologize to U.S. troops for once suggesting that American and Iraqi leaders should discuss “timetables and benchmarks” for withdrawal from Iraq, which McCain charged “would have led to a victory by Al Qaeda.”

Romney called McCain “dishonest” and warned that the Republican Party wasn’t ready “to take as dramatic a departure from the house that Reagan built” as they would if they embraced McCain.

ROTFLMAO! I honestly don't understand this timing of the announcement of Biden being the VP candidate (unless Hillary changes everything at the convention). And if anything, Obama - by picking Biden - is gonna get a lot of questions along these lines "Senator Obama, what do you have to say about your running mate's comments on ............[fill in the gaffe of your choice]!

This may work to their advantage. Since Biden implied that the Dems need to pick somebody with foreign policy experience, and we know Joe lied about plagerizing that speach in 1988, well, Obama can just say... "See, Joe is a lier, he really didn't mean that I had not foreign policy experience..."

Obama pulling out of red states
Barack Obama bragged that he would compete for votes in all 50 states against John McCain, and his fundraising numbers certainly gave the impression that he had the resources to do it. Yesterday, though, Obama’s campaign abruptly suspended their advertising in several red states, including Georgia, which Team Obama had specifically spotlighted earlier as a possible takeaway:

Well duh - the Russians have it.

That one combined with Obama's statements would make a great campaign ad. It's alos going to be interesting to watch them both have to answer question about how wrong they were on Iraq. They've been robbed of an American defeat.

The narrator of this ad, which is approved by MCCain, is the same narrator as the Ayers ad, which wasn't approved by him. For whatever it's worth, I just thought that is interesting to note. Seems like the Dems could make the connection, and claim that McCain is actually behind the ads he doesn't approve of. As I said in an earlier post, the ads are great but I think the voice is weak. It's a good ad. McCain needs to be careful over-using the "gotcha".

I think McCain should hammer Obama on his naive and ever shifting socialist tax policy ideas. At one point Obama was asked -- "even if the money flowing to the treasury were decreased - would you still support tax increases on capital gains, dividends, income etc..." and Obama's answer was YES. because it's FAIR. So Obama thinks that even if tax increases decrease the money flowing to the treasury - we should still have tax increases.

Hammer that!

Yeah. Begalla said on CNN last night that they should have created the illusion to Hillary that she was on Obama's shortlist at a minimum for VP. They didn't even do that. Sorry, but Romney, Pawlenty and Jindal all met that requirement, Romney and Pawlenty with more than Palin, Jindal with as much, but Jindal has more name recognition

281 rwmofo  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 9:18:15am

Just imagine how much the quality of the news at NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN could be improved if McCain's staff was responsible for research.

282 realwest  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 9:18:42am

re: #278 apb1 I honestly don't know about Romney - yes he has the experience, but unfortunately - for political purposes only - he is a Mormon and for whatever reason that sorta pisses people off.
Frankly, if McCain isn't going for a dyed in the wool
conservative, I'd like to see him pick Rudy over Romney.
Course Rudy has baggage too, but his name recognition factor is infinitely higher than Palin's and he does have a legitmately GOOD RECORD to run on.

I like what Romney did financially in Mass - love to see him clobber Congress with a common-sense budget...especially a Dem one.

OK, just for entertainment value, I've indicated Romney's political problems with some folks over his being a Mormon; Jinhal is for teaching ID in public schools as part of Science courses.
They all have their faults, but ANY of 'em are MUCH better than Biden.

290 realwest  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 9:23:11am

Oh yes, that one's gotta hurt. Did you watch Obama's reaction to Biden when he said that? Barry tilted his head back, rolled his eyes & smirked. Classic narcissistic reaction. Sweet!

agreed , and this goes back to a thread from yesterday. You state that I've indicated Romney's political problems with some folks over his being a Mormon

Sad that in this day and age that matters. I recall the flap over Kennedy being Catholic. That was almost 50 years ago! With all the Presidents/ Vice Pres's we've had, Religion has NEVER played a part in them doing a good or poor job, IMHO

293 godfrey  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 9:27:26am

This ad isn't just a slap to the Obama campaign, it's a punch in the stomach. Excellent professional work. The McCain campaign is really on its game.

294 A.W.  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 9:30:35am

That's going to leave a mark.

But Biden is a perfect match for Obama, although now we know why Obama is using the stadium for his announcement. There was no way both egos could fit in one room.

I'll take a Mormon American over a Nation of Islam American any day.

In addition, Mormons are Made in America and don't do jihad. That's A BIG plus in my book, here in 2008.

Mitt Romney's private religious observance matters not to me because his professional political life is exemplary in my opinion.

Romney is qualified to be president of these United States from day one should McCain falter for any reason.

I would be proud to call Romney my Mr. President and Commander in Chief.

re: #222 Kenneth

Obama let Biden off the hook for that one. He said the comment was taken out of context and no offense was taken. Rather big of Obama, actually.

The only thing big about Obama is his ego and gaping lack of experience. Don't overestimate him, friend.

I don't agree with some points of Mormon theology, but I have no problem with the values & morality which Mormons uphold. Romney would be an outstanding VP now, and a great President in 2012.

LMAO!

So did Howard Dean, in 2004 Dean said that only someone that has served in the military over seas should be President. (He was speaking about Kerry, but it should still stand)

I agree, though it doesn't move him that far up the scale.

306 Lawrior  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 9:57:24am

Q: Senator Biden, can you comment on what it feels like to be running as VP for someone who was barely out of law school when you entered your twentieth year in the Senate?

If only someone would ask him this.

McCain 2008

311 twincitiesgirl  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 11:04:03am

Pass out the Prilosec on both sides. There's going to be a lot of severe heartburn when they all have to eat their words.

I hope we can move on quickly to ads on the substantive issues that matter most to people. If Romney is as good as people say in the economic arena we need to see the focus on this since it's a major concern to most voters.

312 smill1953  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 11:36:20am

I think McCain would be well-advised to pick Michael Steele as his running mate.

313 neocon hippie  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 11:53:42am

If the powers that be, i.e., the superdelegates, had been strategic they would have chosen Hillary for the top spot and put Hopey McChange in the understudy spot. Had this been done back in June I don't think McCain would have had much of a chance. But no, they were so eager to nominate a "black" (really biracial) candidate and throw the Clintons out. Now there's a big mess on their hands. They can't resurrect the dream ticket now without serious chaos along with disaffection among black and other voters.

I'd say no way was Biden Obummer's first choice, and I expect that snippets of the behind-the-scenes drama will start leaking out shortly.

Not even close. Jesse and Al don't want Obambi to win. Their whole race hustler, shakedown scam would be put out of business. No one would buy their "America is still a racist nation and you owe us" routine if we had a black president refuting it.

317 descolada9  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 2:44:49pm

re: #33 hopperandadropper

This is my thought too. Obama realized that he doesn't have a chance and so made a choice that "guaranteed" a loss in November. When he loses he can blame it on Biden.

McCain is doing very well in the political ad arena. He obviously saw this choice coming, and did a great job putting a succinct ad together.

324 nadadhimmi  Sun, Aug 24, 2008 6:21:41am

Seems as if McCain was just laying low until the right moment to hit the mess-iah. Obama is starting to come across as pathetic. We're in for a nasty-ass few months as the mess-iah claims EVERYBODY is racist. Wouldn't you give a million to see his lovely, USA hating wife behind the scenes? Get ready for the riots. I predict this will be a watershed election, changing the basic support groups for both parties. The GOP is morphing into the Dems of the early, non McGovern, 60's and the GOP is morphing into the Bolschevics of the 20's.

325 nadadhimmi  Sun, Aug 24, 2008 6:23:47am

Oops, make that the Dems into the Bolschevics, lol.

326 RoyalCanadian  Sun, Aug 24, 2008 7:36:55am

The significantly and materially distant past for Obama and his Altar-Ego is now a couple of months

re: #12 loppyd

I think he wanted Kaine (Slingblade) but the polls from earlier this week which showed him getting spanked by McCain on foreign policy, experience/ready to lead & the economy scared him into changing his mind.

"Slingblade" Kaine? Oh, that is PERFECT!
