Here we go with the American Story.

2 LionFromZion  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:22:09pm

They look so ridiculous up there together!

3 J.D.  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:22:29pm

Obama only picked Biden to help him look less arrogant himself.

4 Americain  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:22:45pm

Sit back and enjoy, this ride's going to be good.

5 JohnnyReb  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:23:20pm

No shots of the crowd. Oh and the Lincoln reference.

6 ThnkngOutLoud  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:23:23pm

I think they are hyperventilating. Get them both a brown paper bag, or a 'green' cloth bag.

7 Charles  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:23:26pm

Obama's sitting behind him on the wall, drinking bottled water.

8 Opinionated  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:23:47pm

"Obama's mother believed in America"....which is why she moved to Indonesia.

Hell she didn't even seem to believe in American men.

Using a tune from the Boss to segue into the Biden speech is so inspiring! Change that we can believe in!

Wise leader who could deliver change? Obama?

50 rakkasan  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:29:48pm

Politically, this was the "safe" choice. Unfortunately for Obama, the safe choice goes against the whole narrative of his campaign up to this point. The always-dicey "youth vote" just got halved, the excitement factor has probably evaporated, and the idea that Obama wasn't just another political hack just got torpedoed. Good luck with that.

Not that McCain still isn't capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, mind you.

67 J.D.  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 12:31:09pm

Joe Biden? I feel the same way I did at the end of the last episode of "The Sopranos." Sure, some people considered the go-to-black ending nuanced, but as far as I was concerned, the producers punted. They chose a non-ending because they couldn't decide on a strong ending.

I confess. I thought Barack Obama would pick Hillary Rodham Clinton as his vice presidential running mate, not because he likes her - word is, he doesn't - but because he needs the backing of the 18 million or so voters who supported her. It would have been the smart move for victory in November. My second wrong guess was Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine - a gutsy pick that would have gone against the punditry argument that Obama had to pick a candidate weighted with experience and may have put Virginia in play. Such a pick would have reinforced Obama's message of change.

Instead, Obama chose a man who, months ago, was shooting for a third- or fourth-place finish in Iowa - but came in fifth, and dropped out after he failed to garner 1 percent of the vote. . .
Obama May Have Played It Too Safe
This has the potential to become very very ugly.

Obama has soooo shot himself in the foot picking this old gasbag. A Washington insider who hasn't had a real job since McCain was in a prison camp.

Wikipedia says he's run twice, and it salso says this:

Then in September 1987, the campaign ran into serious trouble when he was accused of plagiarizing a speech by Neil Kinnock, then-leader of the British Labour Party.[26] Though Biden had correctly credited the original author in all speeches but one, the one where he failed to make mention of the originator was caught on video.[27]

Within days, it was also discovered that as a first-year law student at Syracuse Law School, Biden had plagiarized a law review article in a class paper he wrote. Though the dean of the law school in 1988 as well as Biden's former professor played down the incident of plagiarism, they did find that Biden drew "chunks of heavy legal prose directly from" the article in question. Biden said the act was inadvertent due to his not knowing the proper rules of citation, and Biden was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F, which was subsequently dropped from his record.[28] Biden also released his undergraduate grades, which started off poorly and remained unexceptional.[28] Further, when questioned by a New Hampshire resident about his grades in law school Biden had claimed falsely to have graduated in the "top half" of his class, (when he actually graduated 76th in a class of 85) that he had attended on a full scholarship, and had received three degrees.[29] In fact he had received two majors, History and Political Science, and a single B.A., as well as a half scholarship based on financial need.[29]

No excuses: Ron Fournier needs to be recused or fired

I don't think the enormity of Ron Fournier's hit piece on the Obama-Biden ticket can be fully appreciated. This story will be in every small-town paper, and quite a few big ones, by tomorrow. As newspapers reduce their staffs and rely more heavily on wire services, Fournier's reporting and his style as the Washington bureau chief will be more and more prominent. What's more the media swarm takes their cues from sources like the AP. Fournier is a Villager who needs to be cut down. Now.

They also publish his boss' name, phone an email.

One of the most overlooked episodes during the 1987 collapse of Biden's campaign was a snippet of footage captured by C-Span in which the Delaware senator, in response to a question about where he went to law school and what sort of grades he received, delivered this classic line: "I think I have a much higher IQ than you do."

McCain did not do this lawsuit. The attorney involved is a lifelong Democrat, former Deputy Attorney General of PA and a HILLARY supporter. Why should McCain get dinged for it?

Is the msm-obama love affair over?

The Overthinking Obama

It is probably fair to say that Obama does not favor infanticide, though his position on the Illinois bill was extreme even by pro-choice standards. But Obama's current problem isn't really about his position on abortion. It is about his central weakness as a presidential candidate: He overthinks and ends up seeming not to know what he thinks.

He can't seem to give a straight answer.

******

Alas, the more he tries to explain his position, the more muddled the picture becomes. The most revealing answer may have come last weekend, when pastor Rick Warren asked him when a baby gets human rights.

"Well, uh, you know, I think that whether you're looking at it from a theological perspective or, uh, a scientific perspective, uh, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know, is, is, uh, above my pay grade."

Well, uh, not really.

Yes, Warren's question was complicated. But the answer is really pretty simple. It's whatever one thinks. It is not above anyone's pay grade to be honest.

Instead, Obama punted.

Look out, Kathleen- the kos kidz might be looking for you.

PINKY and INANE

Granted, my proposed nickname for the ticket somewhat oversimplifes.
Obama does have a far left of centre voting record, but in all fairness, this could be as much due to pandering to his local constituency as any real conviction. Biden actually can be quite insightful at times, such as his earlier endorsement of McCain and rejection of Obama. True, Biden has said a lot of assinine things, but if you talk that much, it is statistical inevitability.

At the same time, perhaps the allusion is unduly flattering. Pinky in the cartoon series has deeply rooted convictions that trascend his own ego and situation, such as his commitment to his partner throughout all visiccitudes whereas Obama's only apparent fixed star of belief is that he deserves to be President. Also, I find that Pinky's "Narf" is more intellctually substantive and emotionally evocative than Obama's "Change".

Anyway, I submit into nomination "Pink and Inane" to contest with
"Smug and Plugs", etc, and leave it to the wisdom of the American people to decide.

No, it is not. McCain was born to two American parents on an American military base located on American territory. He is as American as apple pie - by birth. Just as if he had been born in Washington DC in the very White House itself.

Obama was born somewhere to a father who was specifically not an American citizen. At the time of Obama's birth he was a British citizen. Several years later he acquired Kenyan citizenship when Kenya acquired independence. That makes Obama a dual citizen by birth - entitled to citizenship in all three of those countries. Dual citizens are specifically not naturally born.

If your mother's parents were citizens or became citizens while she was a minor then of course she would be a citizen under the old rules.

Obama's father, however, was not a citizen. He was here as a student retaining his citizenship elsewhere, not an immigrant. There is a legal difference.

There are a number of factors that come into play for natural vs naturalized citizenship. The term under the law has sparked much debate since people here illegally are not technically under the law.

Obamanations birth is of less consideration then his time in Indonesia where he was adopted by his step father, his mother took citizenery, and he, at the age of ninteen flew on an indonesian passport.
Actions by his mother may come into play here, in which case, he is not qualified to be a senator either.

I don't know squat about constituitional law, but if Obambi/Biden are sworn in and obambi was found to be ineligble would Biden become prez? Or since the ticket was a fraud would it devolve to, God help us, the Speaker of the House?!

Yup to all of that. That is why it is important that a court look at this now. There are simply too many indications that Obama absolutely is not constitutionally qualified to be POTUS.

My moms father died when she was 2 y/o. Her mother didn;t become a citizen until much much later. Mom's a US citizen (she was born HERE) plain and simple

Her parents were legal immigrants, not students who retained their citizenship elsewhere.

At that point, Joe is prez. The possibilities for an earlier end are scary.

re: #418 JeremyR

There are a number of factors that come into play for natural vs naturalized citizenship. The term under the law has sparked much debate since people here illegally are not technically under the law.

Obamanations birth is of less consideration then his time in Indonesia where he was adopted by his step father, his mother took citizenery, and he, at the age of ninteen flew on an indonesian passport.
Actions by his mother may come into play here, in which case, he is not qualified to be a senator either.

Yes, I did not know about the Indonesian passport, though I suspected because he and Michelle spent nearly a year in Bali while he was writing Dreams. Dual citizen children were required by law (still in existence at the time Obama turned 18) to choose their nationality at the age of 18 - and once you had chosen, that was it.

The rules (including in the constitution as I recall) are specific that both parents must be citizens for him to be "naturally born." Obama's father was not a US citizen.

440 HelloDare  Sat, Aug 23, 2008 1:41:54pm

At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: "I'm groping here." Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we're not bent on its destruction. "Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran," Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face.

The staffers sit in silence. Finally somebody ventures a response: "I think they'd send it back." Then another aide speaks up delicately: "The thing I would worry about is that it would almost look like a publicity stunt." Still another reminds Biden that an Iranian delegation is in Moscow that very day to discuss a $300 million arms deal with Vladimir Putin that the United States has strongly condemned. But Joe Biden is barely listening anymore. He's already moved on to something else.

The last 3 Democrat Presidents were southerners, and Clinton and Carter were Governors. When you have a winning formula, you stick with it, instead of trying to stick a square peg in a round hole. I suspect the progressives running the Obama campaign has written off the south because they have a deep animosity toward southerners, bitter clingers and all of that.
