Ok, got it. His brother's name is George.

Just like Liberace?!?

Barack Obama's brother's name is George.

14 Killgore Trout  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 10:32:44am

I'm not sure if anyone's said this here yet but I'll give Obama a pass on this one. It's entirely possible that his brother has a drug addiction or other mental problems. Money given to him would have been wasted. He met the guy twice in his life and I won't hold Obama responsible for him.

Speaking of good Obama videos, I found one video that features 10 straight minutes of his bloopers.

So what's his point?

26 tedzilla99  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 10:35:51am

It's more of the democrat DAISNAID

Killgore - if you read anything about George, he's not a drug addict or whatever. The article about him says he's attending school right now - for what I can't recall.

I am not sure why you want to give a pass without doing some research? LAZY

27 wrenchwench  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 10:35:53am

Yeah, but I think if Obama is going to ask the U.S. taxpayer to shell out money for drug addicts', illegal's, etc. medical care and expenses, he can be held accountable for his own brother.

True, but I have no idea what the backstory is here. I'm a little more concerned about his barefoot grandmother who lives in a mud hut with chickens.

Ouch, that ad will leave a mark. I'm still hoping Hillary will pull something this week. This week could be fun.

32 Ringo the Gringo  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 10:36:31am

Excellent!

I still think that a group of stingy Republicans should get together and help out poor George Obama.

A donation of a mere few thousand dollars would change his life.

33 Pastorius  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 10:37:05am

#14, Kilgore Trout,

I agree.

Obama can't possibly be responsible for family he didn't know most of his life. Expecially brothers and sisters who came from a father who had multiple wives.

That would be ridiculous for him to assume such responsibility.

I have personal experience with this kind of thing. I'm adopted, and have met my family now that I'm older. There's no way I would expect them to be responsible for me, and I wouldn't expect myself to be responsible for them.

45 MandyManners  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 10:39:54am

I wanna' post this all over the place.

Los Angeles blogger Juliette Ochieng has a lot in common with the man who might be the next president, Barack Obama. A lot.

Both were born to Kenyan fathers of the same tribe (the Luo) from the same province (Nyanza), and both of their fathers came as boys to America aboard the same airplane. Growing up, neither Ochieng nor Obama knew their fathers, who both abandoned their American mothers and left their American-born children behind. Both of their fathers returned to Africa in the early 1960s and became friends, bonding at Kenyan bars over their favorite drink — Scotch. Both Ochieng's and Obama's mothers contracted ovarian cancer. (Hers survived it; his did not). Both Ochieng and Obama were born in the U.S. in August 1961 — only weeks apart.

But for someone with parallel beginnings, Juliette Akinyi Ochieng is quite different: Evangelical Christian. Working class. Military veteran. Pro-life. Conservative Republican.

SNIP

In August 2006, Senator Obama toured Kenya, his first trip to his father's nation. Thousands of Kenyans welcomed him, international media followed wherever he went, and glowing stories flowed forth.

One spot he visited was the recently renamed Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School in Nyang'oma-Kogelo, a village in equatorial western Kenya where Obama's roots go deep: His father, Barack Sr., was born there. His 86-year-old step-grandmother, Sarah, still lives there in a brick shanty with a tin roof and no running water.

Almost exactly two years ago, Barack Obama visited the school built upon land that, decades ago, Obama's grandfather donated. In anticipation of Obama's visit, the school changed its name to honor the village's most famous progeny, Barack Jr.

The school had only four classrooms. It lacked water, functioning bathrooms and even electricity. A third of its students were orphans. Its extreme need made Senator Obama's speech there all the more riveting for the village residents.

"Hopefully, I can provide some assistance in the future to this school and all that it can be," Obama said. Looking directly at the school's principal, Yuanita Obiero, and her teachers, he added, "I know you are working very hard and struggling to bring up this school, but I have said I will assist the school, and I will do so."

In the two years since, Obama has experienced a meteoric political rise, becoming the Democratic flag-bearer, authoring a best-seller and last year, with his wife, Michelle, earning $4.2 million. He bought a luxury home. Last year, he gave $240,000 to charities.

But apparently not to the Senator Obama Kogelo School. "Senator Obama has not honored the promises he gave me when we met in 2006 and in his earlier letter to the school," Principal Obiero has told the London-based, conservative tabloid EveningStandard. "He has not given us even one shilling. But we still have hope."

SNIP

But she was embarrassed by her fellow Luo-American, Barack Obama. She rushed to fill the financial void, forming a California nonprofit to funnel money to the African school. With a flair for drama, she named it "Save Senator Obama Kogelo School" and held a mini fund-raiser. She's raised $3,500, so she's a long way from the $750,000 she wants to raise within two years.

SNIP

IT'S NOT ABOVE HER PAY-GRADE, BHO!

Barry wrote about George in his book when he was a baby. It's not like this guy just popped out of nowhere last week. So your point sucks. And, for a guy who presumes to know better what to do with our money than we do, and for a guy who is a multimillionaire who criticizes McCain for his family's wealth, he could easily throw $1,000 George's way. He's given more than that to Rev. Wright's church.

and just think how little money Barry would have to send to insure George is in a house with water running from the faucets instead of water running into the house from the mud puddle outside. How much better George could get his life together if he had something like...oh electricity? Barry and Michelle are acquisitive and penurious, there are no indications they give of themselves freely to anyone. (Check Cindy McCain for comparisons.)

Most of my family was behind the iron curtain when I was growing up - never met them and had no chance to meet them. To send one regular 44 lb. box to them of clothing and food, we had to pay the Soviets $250 in duty alone. That was in the 1960's. $250 back then was like a week's salary. A month didn't go by that my family didn't send at least one box. And the same can be said for many other Eastern European refugee families. They were so much worse off in the USSR than we were here in the USA that there was NO QUESTION that anything we could do to help we would.

I understand what you are saying, but the Obama camp started this slaughter with the 'class warfare' meme, saying that John McCain was so rich he didn't know how many homes he owned. They didn't fact check to see that Cindy Mac owned them, why should the GOP fact check this? It's a nasty tit for tat, that's all it is.

Baldilocks has been hammering Obama because he hasn't fulfilled his promise to help out that school in Kenya named after him. No surprise there.

No surprise with this ad either. Obama's people wanted to hit McCain over how many homes he owns. McCain wasn't going to let that go quietly.

Meanwhile, one has to wonder how many people might lose their homes this year because they can't afford higher energy costs. Higher energy due to the zero-growth eco-leftists who dominate the Democratic party.

Take the NJ politicos for example. Bob Menendez is looking to ban drilling in the OCS. That's even with test wells done 30 years ago showing that there was a nice sized natural gas deposit off the NJ shore.

Repeat that around the country. You want to talk about not understanding why people are feeling the pinch and understanding the housing crunch, but include factors like higher taxes and higher energy costs, and those with fixed incomes can no longer afford to live comfortably and have to skimp or downsize their homes. Or worse.

But if you had LOTS of money, would you at least think about spreading the wealth? Remember, all these organizations that tell you you can change a child's life in Africa for, what, like $3 or $5 bucks a day?

BHO could do some good for his family (and YES -- a half brother is family) by sending the guy the money he leaves in tips at restaurants for a few weeks. He wants to lord over a nanny state and he isn't even compassionate enough to take care of his own. sorry BHO is a no go.

Team McCain could easily turn it around by focusing on Cindy's charitable work in Vietnam and elsewhere, all while raising a family (including an adopted special needs child) and running a very large and successful business. In fact, they should put together a little video bio of her like that for the convention and run it before she speaks. It looks like the Democrats are going to give the world a highly polished, but realistic, view of what the Party really stands for these days at this convention. Carter as a main speaker just helps this along. I do hope people are paying attention.

If they are, Obama may not get 30% of the vote. He's the furtherest Left that the Democrats have ever dared run. He really represents what the Party aspires to be, right down to his self-aggrandizement/worship.

Actually, it is a good program to reduce emergency room visits that are more costly than if the same procedures and care were provided at primary care facilities. Still, it has the stink of cronyism since the same faces crop up touting that program as they do in everything else the Obama's touch.

This is too funny. From today's New York Post:

New York state Democratic party devoted a page in its information packet with three separate warnings to its delegation about how hard booze hits the system in mile-high Denver.

On a page titled "high-altitude tips" in a packet sent to traveling New York Democrats, there were repeated reminders that the air up here is different.

"Please monitor yourself, and remember that drinks may go to your head faster than you're used to in New York," was the first cautionary paragraph. "We don't want any of our members to miss Delegation events or procededings, so please stay safe."

The rest of the advice was more along the lines of drinking plenty of water.

Team McCain could easily turn it around by focusing on Cindy's charitable work in Vietnam and elsewhere, all while raising a family (including an adopted special needs child) and running a very large and successful business. In fact, they should put together a little video bio of her like that for the convention and run it before she speaks. She is a gracious lady and she will overshadow Michelle the whiner in every setting.

She has her own section on McCain's website with photos and a diary of a couple of her latest trips (charity work).

Well, I was downtown this morning, about a mile south of the Pepsi Center, for my docs appointment. There was a military sized helicopter buzzing around the Center. It must have been security, since all airspace over downtown is restricted. No news copters or traffic copters and no planes.

The Democratic HQ on the corner of Santa Fe and 8th had no activity going on outside. I'm not sure if it was even open.

I got a picture of the helicopter and the Dem HQ, but there was no way I was going to venture further into downtown. Besides, downtown Denver is a bitch for parking even on normal days.

Hitting BHO with his brother in Kenya seems a bit weak; one guy, thousands of miles away, . . . but still, $50 per month would solve many problems for him. Another $5 per month to Granny . . . This means that Michele would have to make do with 2 less sets of earrings per year. Perhaps $100/month overseas isn’t a good choice.

Why then does BHO propose additional US payments to help poverty in the Third World when he himself can't spend $100/month for his relatives? (Wait ... earrings ... forgot)

An ad comparing the multimillion dollar house Obama lives in and the numerous housing developments in his Illinois district that are unlivable, even though very many millions of dollars were spent to rehabilitate them would be much more interesting.

BHO’s failure in this case affects his neighbors, here, and with our taxpayer money.

Is this indicative of his limited ability (other state legislators get things done, why not him?) or of his priorities and the importance attached, or both?

231 GGMac  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 11:21:03am

re: #14 Killgore Trout

I'm not sure if anyone's said this here yet but I'll give Obama a pass on this one. It's entirely possible that his brother has a drug addiction or other mental problems. Money given to him would have been wasted. He met the guy twice in his life and I won't hold Obama responsible for him.

He met his own father twice in his life also - the father who illegally sired him with an underage girl, then deserted him and his mother in order to "better" himself and Kenya - by spreading wantonly spreading his seed across Africa.

Yet Obama worshipped the Scotch-saturated father and the ground he walked on.

Why should he react differently regarding the brother who may or may not be like their father - other than that the father could be fantacized into literary and political fortune?

IIRC this hit the stands within a day or so of the famous "moral failings" answer the Obama gave Rick Warren at Saddleback. Remember how this great POS answered? Not with his own reflection of personal moral failing, but he pointed at those of the USA . He even had the nerve to quote Matthew about providing for the least among us!This liar can't even spare a thin dime for his younger brother whilst lecturing us on our lack of compassion for the poor? He's going to demand we support his Global Poverty Act? He's ok with infanticide?I call bullsh!t!

Obama is on the record for a Global Poverty Tax to distribute money to whomever (translation: slush fund for Commie tyrants) in the cause of income redistribution, for its own sake.

His own half brother would never see a dime of it, as all the funds would go to some local thug higher up the food chain.

This is a perfectly good issue to run with, if you ask me.

I can't take credit for this, but:

"Foreign aid is a mechanism for taking money from poor people in rich countries to give to rich people in poor countries."

And The Farmer's Almanac is usually dead-on. So much for global warming.

I'm buying an extra ton of pellets this year for my pellet stove, I normally use 1-1/2 to 2 tons throughout the winter. The Almanac sez the Northwest is going to be drier this year, but even the "accurate" prognosticators are wrong sometimes.

Besides, the price has gone up $40/ton to almost $250 for the fall - I wanna get mine while it's still $209/ton.

Stay warm, everybody! Invite Al Gore over to warm your abode with all his hot air sometime during the winter. (Getting rid of the stink is another problem, however...)

Here is how the internally coherent left wing meme could go to explain the "George" issue.
Everyone is entitled to their own culture to seek their authentic place and avoid the Marxist state of sin called "anomie." The natural cultures of Anglo-Americans and Jews however are inherently racist and colonialist so they do not get the same safe haven for expressing themselves as others. Examples of authentic native cultures that are protected include Latin American's ignoring borders, Muslims expressing Millenarian supremism, Arabs expressing Anti-semitism, Russians ignoring laws and invading people, Chinese and North Koreans engaging in Mass rallies worshiping a Leader, French asserting that Americans are unwashed pigs with undrinkable wine and Africans being allowed to live in huts without plumbing under an incompetent dictatorship that is dependent on foreign aid. To attempt to change any of the conditions that produce these behaviors is evidence of an oppressive colonialist mentality that can only be attenuated in part by purchasing carbon offset credits from Al Gore.

The cops that were acting as a barrier to/between troublesome groups were standing with their backs to the group, which to me is indicative that they were expecting trouble to come from the LLL's (and other assorted loonies)...

There is no reason to believe Obama's brother is a drug addict or anything other than desperately poor. If George is a drug addict it doesn't matter. Obama wants to give your money and my money to American drug addicts for health care and welfare doesn't he? I don't think he makes an exception when spending the money of other people. I don't mean bring this up to discuss pro or con offering services to addicts. The Obamas gave almost nothing to charity until Barry decided to run for president.

To quote the words of The Messiah, Barack Obama about the moral failings of America:

“I think America’s greatest moral failure in my lifetime has been that we still don’t abide by that basic [p]recept in Matthew that whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.”

And about the least of his brother's George, Barack Obama (or more likely his ghost writer) described his half-brother as a "beautiful boy with a rounded head" and added:

"I took comfort in the fact that perhaps one day, when he was older, George might want to know who his father had been and who his brothers and sisters were. And if he ever came to me, I would be there for him, to tell him the story I knew."

The moral failings of AMERICA!

To be fair though, the Matthew quote was probably more of the mindless drivel that Barack comes up with and passes off as rhetoric. He probably had no clue about what he was saying any more than he does when he talks about CHANGE. Americans are actually very generous compared with people of most other nations in supporting charitable causes - it's really not any particular moral failing of America.

Although publicity about Barack’s brother George living in poverty makes a very good point and is useful politically, it really should not surprise anybody if Barack was found to have TWENTY brothers living in poverty, crime, prison, or even as slaves somewhere.

Given the African-Muslim practices regarding “marriage” and procreation outside of marriage, the entire Western traditional concept of “family” is open to new interpretation in our “diverse” societies.

A Muslim man can have four wives at any one time. And he can recycle those wives (divorce, marry another, divorce, marry another, divorce, marry another, etc., etc.) as long as his money and stamina hold out.

Furthermore, he can have “temporary wives” for a day or a month or an hour, as needed.

And he can impregnate “infidel” women without any concern about “marriage” at all. That is one of the ways to spread Islam.

Not that it is important, but Barack Obama’s parents could not have been legally married because Barack’s father had a legal wife back in Africa when he was involved with Barack’s white American mother in Hawaii. Bigamous marriages may have been legal in his home country, but they were not in Hawaii. Even if he attempted to legally marry her (did he?), it would have been invalid since he already had a living, undivorced wife (with whom he had children both before and after Barack’s birth).

How many women did Barack Obama’s father impregnate? Who knows? How many half-siblings does Barack have around the world? Does he know?

There is currently an article in the UK Telegraph entitled

Obama won’t lose for being black but for not being American enough
[Link: www.telegraph.co.uk...]

And although the author does not mention this aspect – what “family” means to Muslims – this is definitely part of it.

The surprise is not that Barack Obama does not take care of his brother. The NON-surprise is that in Muslim families, who is “family,” who is a “brother” is very different from Western Judeo-Christian law and traditions.
