Conventional Discussion Thread 1

Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 3:01:55 pm PDT

Here’s an open thread to discuss what’s going on at the Denver convention; Zombie’s been hanging out with (or I should say, lurking near) Joe Biden, Barbara Boxer, and Danny Glover to name a few, and another report is imminent barring unforeseen internet connection problems.

Right now the convention is mostly mind-numbing formalities being read from teleprompters by smiling functionaries. All the action is outside, where Agent Z lurks.

E-mail from my dad:

Senator BARACK OBAMA was invited to address a major gathering of
the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upstate New York.

HE spoke for almost an hour on HIS future plans for increasing
every Native American's present standard of living, should HE one
day become President.

HE referred to his career as a Senator, how he had signed 'YES'
for every Indian issue that came to his desk for approval.

Although the Senator was vague on the details of his plan, he seemed
most enthusiastic about his future ideas for helping his 'red sisters and
brothers'.

At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented the Senator with a
plaque inscribed with his new Indian name - Walking Eagle. The proud Senator then departed in his motorcade, waving to the crowds.

A news reporter later inquired to the group of chiefs of how they came
to select the new name they had given to the Senator.

They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of
shit it can no longer fly.

Better than that - the dems are in control of most large cities and most city counsels all over the country. They are also in charge of all the schools.

About the only thing the GOP controls is the WH - and how much does that affect an American's life on a daily basis.

So even down to a fundemental level, if people want to whine about how sucky things are - tell them to look to their local government and then tell us it's the GOPs fault....

Beg to differ. It was the OSHA and EPA that shut down the manufacturing jobs. Ask why the plastics company in WA shut down and kept the Canadian one open? Another New set of EPA standards could not be implemented without increasing prices dramatically.

Democrat (dim-o-krat) def: Someone who thinks that Charles Manson had a good side.

108 loppyd  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 3:29:10pm

This is the trainwreck I saw during Chrissy Matthew's show earlier:

Showdown: Obama, Clinton Supporters Trade Barbs

Before the Democratic National Convention got underway with a prayer and the national anthem, Democratic infighting took center stage in another area of Denver's Pepsi Center.

Supporters of former presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., shouted "We will not fall in line" behind the party's presumptive presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

A small group of about 15 people, located within the crowd of approximately 200 gathered in front of MSNBC's news set, traded barbs over who deserves the nomination.

This cracked me up:

"Haters, that's what y'all are. Haters! You're not a Democrat! You're not a Democrat!" a man holding up an Obama sign shouted at a Clinton supporter.

Then this:

"Let the delegates vote!" "Rise, Hillary Rise!" "I own my vote!" the Clinton supporters responded.

The Obama backers replied with his campaign mantra "Yes We Can," but the Clinton supporters persisted.

"Caucus fraud, Caucus fraud!" they yelled.

McAuliffe Wants Obama to Stop Talking About the Clintons

"You're nominated to be president. It's your campaign. At some point, quit talking about the Clintons and move on," McAuliffe said in an interview with NY1 News, according to a transcript they just emailed.

When asked about the placing her name in nomination during the roll call vote, McAuliffe said, "We don't need to go through all the states."

McAuliffe also said the way the media urged Clinton to leave the race was a "disgrace."

(Well, except for my hard Left thesis-writing skills. And my hard-core Chicago family political ties. And my high-powered, $317,000-a-year affirmative action job. And my role in organizing the Woods Fund panel that Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers and Barack appeared on together.)

You are correct Richard J Daley would not have tolerated Obama.
With Ayers & Rezko in the mix he would have denied him the senate nominatiion. It's not that he could not toleratre corruption, he could. He could not tolerate unpatriotic people.

Thank you. My guess is that Daley II, who has been very successful at rebuilding his city, tried for the sophisticated approach by offloading his problems. He sent the fool in the family into the Clinton administration and got Obama a nice harmless spot in the State legislature. There is precedent for this approach to managing local fools at a greater expense. Woodrow Wilson was an unwelcome presence in the faculty lounge so he got kicked up to President of Princeton. The Trustees and faculty didn't like him there so they palmed him off on the State of New Jersey as Governor. Desperate politicians arranges for him to be packed off to Washington as President. If it wasn't for Henry Cabot Lodge the next step would have made Wilson President of the World as head of the League of Nations. A certain level of jealousy towards those who float up in life is only human for the rest of us.

I don't remember whether it was Michelle Malkin or Neal Boortz who pointed out the Welfare Queen in Nawlins who was complaining about how tough it was down there post Katrina whilst sitting in a hyper comfortable apartment in front of a 60 inch flat screen plasma TV. She was at most a fig newton away from being 300 pounds too. America is the only country in the history of the world where poor people are fat and have some pretty nifty toys.

The Hollywood convention with its sound and light show, fanbase applause and star support is all about what the Dems and media can do for Obama.

But I bet the election will rest on what Obama is able to do for himself - at the debates. Remember what I said about intelligence being what you use when you don't know what to do (in this case, what to say?) McCain can analyze, introspect and recall a vast number of real life learning events, make an informed judgment and produce an appropriate and intelligent response. Obama can only search through his datafiles of hardwired bits of closely corresponding information, and try to cobble together a sensible sounding reply. Obama cannot reason from a depth of practical learning experience, and that's where his all-to-obvious lack of functional leadership ability will become glaringly obvious.

Speaking without a script, despite clever digs and reeled off memorized soundbites, Barry will sound as convincing as a computer-game program of a Commander in Chief.

The convention is a useful reminder that the modern Democratic Party is wholly owned and operated by the labor unions (especially those representing public employees), the trial lawyers, and the perpetual grievance vestiges of the femi-Nazis, environmentalist wackos, and civil rights shakedown movements.

This year, add a dash of "We're anti-war as long as it helps the enemies of our county, but if it's Georgia that's invaded, not so much" to spice things up.

It's a far cry from the party of Roosevelt and Truman.

C-SPAN usually does a decent job of just letting the people at the podium talk. I watched most of RNC 2000 on C-SPAN and was satisfied.

That was the last time I was really able to watch an entire convention. Army's been in the way ever since. This year won't happen either.

this is so incredibly boring...it's all canned...it's empty slogans -- "yeah it's c-h-a-nge we can believe in..., yeah, I guess that's it, eh? cha-cha-change." I guess after repeating "change" for a million times, it loses that that je ne sais quoi, that genuine excitement...I trust the same goes for Obama...along with his fainting appeal (unless it's due to sheer exhaustion, of course...)

I thought it might be interesting to watch coverage of the convention on MSNBC.

***sigh***

For a while there, I had to remind myself that this was a network broadcast. NEWS broadcast at that! The bias is unnerving. I don't think I can stomach much more. Chris Matthews is particularly nauseating.

And what is it with having their desk outside with a partisan group trying the shout down any conservatives being interviewed. It got so rowdy at one point that McCain's senior advisor joked she was beginning to worry about her safety.

"Can I get someone to escort me through that crowd?"

Incredible...
