Are they trying to put the voters to sleep? This is the most boring opening night I've ever seen! You'd think they'd want to drum up the energy a bit.

She'd have nothing on the Shrill One in a broom race. TSO's is supercharged! M-HO has a little electric one. Green, ya know.

35 lifeofthemind  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 7:30:31pm

PBS serves an important function by distributing the official talking points so the Democrats can stay on message. For example we now know that Jimmy Carter is not only an Elder Statesman but that he admits his real problem was that he was to conservative and he tried to govern from the center when the Democrats in Congress wanted more Change faster. Presumably they also wanted a side order of Hope.

36 Reno911  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 7:30:39pm

Well, I have a mom. I am not looking for anyone in my government to think they are my mother or father. I must say that my mother would tell me to figure things out for myself.

Oy, she's not remarkable. She hitched her star to the right horse, that's just dumb luck.

What I got from her mom's film clip is that she grew up in a loving, middle-class family that saw to it she got a good education. Her life has been one of joy except for the death of her father. She has a husband who may be the next president, a 6-digit salary, and two beautiful healthy children.

Yet she has a chip on her shoulder the size of Gibraltar. I'm looking forward to seeing how she weasels out of that.

Michelle Obama, carried at Princeton without achieving a meaningful intellectual record or otherwise making the lovely old school a better place for having her around, admitted to law school and again was carried without achieving, offered a job at a good law firm failed to make partner, dropped her law license and took an administrative job that was fixed up for her at the school her husband had gotten a job at without going through the normal faculty hiring process, being paid at least three times what her skill set could possibly justify, still radiating anger and grievance and hate.

Juan Williams: I think the "I love America" line will be the headline tomorrow, because that's not what her image was, and the same for Barack.

Okay, Juan, but how pathetic is it that A CANDIDATE FOR US PRESIDENT has to go out of his way AT THE CONVENTION to declare that he and his family don't hate America?!

548 DistantThunder  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 8:12:29pm

The obama;s are elitists because their policies will make it all but impossible for the average person to aspire or aquire to the type of lifestyle the Obama's themselves are priviledged to live.

Just for me and not for thee. - Michelle

I think he said something like 'some may call it hokey'.

I think we're both a little right. I played it back and he said, "It sounds a little hokey, there's no getting away from that."

Juan seems to have some good, if emotional, insight into the historical perspective of a black citizen. It might be clouding his view of the candidate himself, though.

I'm afraid many, many people may make the same mistake. The appeal of electing a black President -- free, finally, from our fathers' mistakes -- is great. But this is not the man we need.

I think there's some real stress in certain quarters of the black community -- the quarters occupied by the likes of Jesse Jackson and his ilk -- because if Barack Obama is elected, their golden goose may be cooked.

Some people have compared Barack Obama to Jackie Robinson.

The race mongers are smart enough to remember that Jackie Robinson incidentally did more than anyone to destroy the Negro Leagues, when he signed on to play in the Majors.

Just for me and not for thee. - Michelle

(Except they lie and pretend they care. The fact that their economic policies run governments into the ground matters not a wit.)

1. Elitists who would make it impossible to aspire to that which they already enjoy.
2. Accomplished liars who pretend to care.
3. Ruinous economic policies.

Conservatives aren't going to vote for him, because he's a far left liberal. The ultimate color-blind reaction.

Dems, however, are the ones that will suffer from their internal racial divides. I doubt very seriously that they will be able to overcome their closeted racist belief system to mount a concerted effort to elect Obama. So yes, in the end, it will be a racist defeat, but it will be the Democrat racists that cause it.

Don't they EVER learn?

We don't settle politics in this country with guns. If they want to act third world let'em move to zimbabwe or somewhere that this is normal.

Great catch for the Aurora police. A routine traffic violation + an observant police officer + good questioning and quick followups = averted assassination attempt.

What I want to know is when did everyone give up on the whole free market economy and capitalism idea? Working hard for a living? It's never been an easy life in America, but if anybody paid attention in their economics class, they'd realize why the economy is doing what it's doing and what to do in times like these. Can you transcribe it for the Lizards and/or post the vid somewhere and/or over at Newsbusters?

It'll take too long to get it from my TiVo to computer, so here's a quick transcript:
Anderson Cooper: John King, did she do what she needed to do?
John King: Anderson, I was fascinated watching Congressman Jim Clyburn. He's the top elected African American in the country, the #3 man in the House of Representatives, transfized the whole speech. Now, he's been around politics a long time, he's heard a lot of speeches. He was watching the monitor, becuase everybody in this hall knows how important this was, not to the people in this hall - to the people watching out at home, because they don't know who these people are, they don't know the Obamas, and if you look at the polling, if you go to these communities, they have questions - do they share our values, what was their life story? So what is she talking about - or her brother - the Brady Bunch, things like that. They are asking the American people, people in Pittsburgh, 65-year-old Catholic women, people in the hills of West Virginia who've never voted for a black man for anything, to vote for a black man for President of the United States - they need to have a connection.

End of John King's totally insulting comments on Michelle's blather...

Alex Jones, that is a seriously deranged man. As if that were not enough, he inspires like minded cretins to engage in dangerous acts. There is a fan of his cooling his heels in the pen up here in Northern Cal. He was inspired by Alex to bust in to the Bohemian Grove, which he did do, armed to the teeth, intent on dusting some Bohemians. The problem was, there was nobody there. All he did was shoot at a caretaker, who called the Sheriff.

At his trial, the perp was invited by the judge, before sentencing, to show some remorse.

He would not. He said that he would do it all over again.

This man believed the entire boatload of Alex's nonsense, moved from Texas, bought weapons in Nevada, and carried out his plan.

After Michelle takes care of Barack's business with Iran:

"You know for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of this country."

Funny, I would feel better about Michelle answering the 3 a.m. phone call, Real. It isn't supposed to be that way.

re: #775 TnTx13

Good job! That's exactly how I remember John King's comments.

Good call. If this gets out in proper fashion, it will work as well as the "Massachusetts Miracle".

Terry Moran on Nightline tonight doth protest too much that the adorable interruption by Obama's daughter that enabled him to correct the mistake he made about what city he was in, was "quite spontaneous" and the "only unscripted moment of the night". That's the story and he's sticking to it. There's got to be a camera angle somewhere that shows Michelle my belle whispering in her ear.

I think she looks stunning - the best work I've seen in a long time. I only wish she'd ditch that Alice-in-wonderland, little girl flat hairstyle (which only ages her in comparison) for a modern, chin length razored bob or the like .... I think she'd look another 10 years younger and sharper than she does now.

definitely bedtime! I lived through this evening courtesy of Charles and LGF ::bowing::

I had to turn up the sound the other day - I was pretty sure it was Ms. Estrich but had to check out the voice to be sure. She is definitely looking good.

re: #820 jcm Hey jcm!
Nope, Obama isn't really hitting the ad over it's content so much as he claims that it violates Federal Campaign Election Laws. The rich Texas due who runs the company that put it out is, essentially and according to Obama, doing the ad for the benefit of McCain and by law he isn't allowed to do that.
Don't know how I feel about the merits of that suit, but that the Obama campaign feels the need to threaten MSM stations who play it with boycotts and the like seems to indicate that the ad sure hits a sore spot! But I certainly didn't see anything incorrect in the ad!
All y'all can see the ad in question here: [Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

re: #657 Cognito

I think there's some real stress in certain quarters of the black community -- the quarters occupied by the likes of Jesse Jackson and his ilk -- because if Barack Obama is elected, their golden goose may be cooked.

Some people have compared Barack Obama to Jackie Robinson.

The race mongers are smart enough to remember that Jackie Robinson incidentally did more than anyone to destroy the Negro Leagues, when he signed on to play in the Majors.

If there's any "real stress" in certain quarters of the black community that their gravy train might be derailed, it's a real stress that Obama is working mightily to allay. I have no doubt that he's got ambassadors fanning out all across the convention courting black delegates, promising them the world when Barack gets elected. The LAST thing he's going to do is change a single element of the status quo.

Man. The two halves of our country seem so, so far apart at the moment. And I don't see any real reconciliation -- not this 'hope' rubbish -- on the horizon.

Maybe it just seems that way because of the polarizing nature of the convention, but it certainly does feel that way for whatever reason

What I want to know is when did everyone give up on the whole free market economy and capitalism idea? Working hard for a living? It's never been an easy life in America, but if anybody paid attention in their economics class, they'd realize why the economy is doing what it's doing and what to do in times like these. Or maybe I was just the brainiac nerd who paid to much attention and got better grades...

No one gave up, per se. People just kept redefining things. Politics is the art of compromise. People are supposed to differ in points of view. But then they are to come together and give a little, get a little. To compromise without being compromised.

It is not the differences that matter, but failure to recognize the commonalities. I am partisan. It doesn't mean I cannot listen to the other side. The all or nothing approach is the rule of the playground. Time for grownups.

AT LEAST JUAN WILLIAMS IS INTERESTING.

Yes, I really like Juan Williams, too. He's not sexy like Harold Ford Jr. but he is really smart and he's brave enough to depart from the party line and does it frequently. When you consider this gets him called a "happy negro" by Obama's ilk, Juan is one of the most courageous pundits on TV these days. I can't think of anyone that puts up with more flack than he does.

And though no sex symbol, god knows Juan's a hell of a lot cuter than Howard Wolfson. Poor thing.

855 PattiO  Mon, Aug 25, 2008 9:14:35pm

Note the two times Obama called his daughter "sweetie" when he did his cameo. When I heard it, it sounded forced. I see why on Nightline. There is a faction of the Hillary supporters who repeatedly said "sweetie" in their anti-Obama chant outside the convention. If you don't know, Obama rudely dismissed a young female reporter with "Hold on a second sweetie. We'll hold a press avail." The depth of orchestration this campaign employs to clean up messes and project a manufactured image of a man who would be president should frighten all of us.

The Dems nominate Obama and Franken, two ultra left wingers who don't have a middle of the road position on virtually any issue...contrast that with McCain and Norm Coleman; both men have a (sometimes frustrating for conservatives) track record of bucking the GOP and working with Dems.

Problem is the Dems do not tolerate compromise or apostasy. Just look at what happened to Lieberman.

It seems that Dimmocrats always bring their wives in to policy discussions. Ever since Clinton gave America that mother of all broom-jockeys, we have to hear stump speeches and policy proposals and worse from their wives. Just look at Kerry's nasty old ball wife, or Edwards (too bad she's sick, but she is a bi-itch just the same).

I cite Ann Coulter's point about how Dems love to bring forth spokesmen who they can tell us are immune from criticism. Candidate's wives are "off limits" so the Dems use them as political human shields.

Even Teddy Kennedy won't be able to put the wind back in her sails after that fact sinks in - if the Republicans reactivate that issue - and they should.

Maybe it just seems that way because of the polarizing nature of the convention, but it certainly does feel that way for whatever reason.

As I've mentioned, polarization seems not only to be built into our nature, it also appears to be a key to the nature of safe governance - and the founders planned it right, based on the tug of war nature's polarization entails. (Think of the forced 'unity' of dictatorships.) If there weren't two diametrically opposed pov's and the nation tumbled all the way to one side, we might find ourselves in a theocracy or a genuine Big Brother totalitarian government state - not good for anyone's personal evolution.

How nature always does contrive
That every boy and every gal
That's born into the world alive
Is either a little Liberal
Or else a little Conservative.'

Now how did Barack's daughter suddenly come spilling out on the stage? Did the Secret Service detail fail in this jobs?

And live video from Denver to KC or St. Louis should have had a satellite delay. What's up with that?

That "unscripted moment" with Daddy and "Sweetie" chatting back and forth was the single most creepy of the evening. The child either followed her script or has serious behavior problems, speaking spontaneously in front of 20,000 noisy people.

"Planned spontaneity" and a fine example of exploiting one's own children.
