Peace Activists Armed with Rocks, Other Weapons

Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 10:21:56 am PDT

The Denver Post has a report on the mini-riot incited last night by the Recreate 68 gang: Rocks, other potential weapons helped spark police action.

“Denver police made limited use of pepper spray Monday night when a protest crowd that had gathered near Civic Center Park refused requests to disperse and suddenly rushed a police safety line about 7:15 p.m.” the statement said.

Police estimated the crowd at 300, although many onlookers and media also were on hand.

Among those arrested, many were observed “carrying rocks and other items that could be used to threaten public safety,” the police report said. “In order to protect the public when the crowd surged forward, two officers deployed their pepper spray and one officer used a pepper ball device.”

Pepper balls are similar to a paint ball, but contain the same material as pepper spray.

Ouch. I wonder if the pepper ball is anything akin to rock salt.

Yea. Considering that urine can contain nasty little germs. And it burns if you get it in your eyes. How would you like to get hit in the head with a bag of urine? Asshole moby.

In the Twin Cities, the....I think they call themselves the Lawyers Guild, or National Lawyers Guild, is more or less encouraging violence. They have been giving info out on what to do if arrested (basically don't cooperate in anyway) and will be there with camera to look for lawsuit fodder.

13 quickjustice  Tue, Aug 26, 2008 10:26:39am

I wonder if the cops read them the Riot Act.

[Link: www.worldwidewords.org...]

"The Riot Act was passed by the British government in 1714 and came into force in 1715. This was the period of the Catholic Jacobite riots, when mobs opposed to the new Hanoverian king, George I, were attacking the meeting houses of dissenting groups. There was a very real threat of invasion by supporters of the deposed Stuart kings — as actually happened later that year and also in 1745. The government feared uprisings, and passed a draconian law making it a felony if a group of more than twelve persons refused to disperse more than an hour after magistrates had told them to do so. To invoke the law, the magistrates had to read the proclamation contained in the Act aloud to the mob, something that often required more courage than they could summon up:

Our sovereign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the act made in the first year of King George, for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God save the King.

The pains or penalties were penal servitude for life or not less than three years, or imprisonment with or without hard labour for up to two years. The Act remained in force for a surprisingly long time, only finally being repealed in 1973, though it had been effectively defunct for decades."

These losers are purely attention whores with no cause, and no reason to exist. They take out their frustrations at being such a complete waste of space by causing a riot and picking up a rock or bottle, as they are too damn gutless to pick up a real weapon, because the cops would then use real weapons, then the party would be over.

More on the Riot Act in the U.S. here: [Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

"The principle of the Riot Act was incorporated into the first Militia Act (1 Stat. 264) of May 8, 1792. The act's long title was "An act to provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the laws of the Union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions".

Section 3 of the Militia Act gave power to the President to issue a proclamation to "command the insurgents to disperse, and retire peaceably to their respective abodes, within a limited time", and authorised him to use the militia if they failed to do so. Substantively identical language is presently codified at chapter 15 of title 10, United States Code. See 10 U.S.C. §§ 331-35 (2006)."

Let's remember that the history books tell us that Chicago '68 was a police riot, but that's now how it looked at the time to a large chunk of the American electorate; what they saw was a political party that pulled along in its wake some truly obnoxious scum, like the camp followers of some thirteenth-century tribal army.

In most western states wearing a mask that obscures your face in public is against the law. Isn't that the case in Denver? And if so, why aren't they arresting those anarchists wearing masks? They are very obviously planning crimes, hauling them in should be a no brainer.

68 lawhawk  Tue, Aug 26, 2008 10:42:44am
“If this party has a message it's done a hell of a job hiding it tonight, I promise you that," he said.

Carville is a Hillary shill, but he's right on the politics seen at the convention so far. If the idea is to get people to vote D in November, you have to convince people on the issues - and last night was a lost opportunity because they didn't touch the issues.

Nothing about Iraq. Nothing about the economy.

It was all about the Obamas and the Kennedys.

The problem for Carville is that the Democrats don't have a message. There's nothing to hide. Hope and change isn't a message. It's empty platitudes.

That is what I was told. I was told that because of this, many Civil Rights attornies will ask the jury, on bad cases, to just award the "victim" one dollar to send a message.

The jury thinks they are not doing much harm really...but the Lawyer can then call it a "win" and get the money from the Government.

96 J.S.  Tue, Aug 26, 2008 10:49:35am

CNN just featured a new ad by a group calling itself "Hillary Clinton Supporters for John McCain..." This group has a website (these are, imo, justifiably angry people). They point out all the violations of democratic conventions (one person, one vote, etc.) and how these conventions (norms) were openly violated by the Democratic Party (a misnomer). They detail all the frauds and the gaming of the system so as to get Obama on the ticket. Very revealing of how Obama's "Chicago Style politics" is running things...

98 jester6  Tue, Aug 26, 2008 10:49:54am

I have three observations why this protest is different from the protests of the 60s.

(1) Anarchist hippy-medics did not treat protesters suffering from anxiety disorders in the 1960s. Unless of course they needed to be "talked down man". See DNC 1968.

(2) If these kids think this is brutality - and I am no fan of cops - they need to meet the police force of the late Mayor Richard Daley or any number of rural places across America today. Dare County, North Carolina springs to mind. See DNC 1968.

(3) Throwing bags of urine at men with guns can lead to terrible misunderstandings. See Kent State University, May 4, 1970.

re: #84 buzzsawmonkey

Chicago was a police riot. But the riot was intentionally provoked by the protesters.

The police could almost certainly have contained the protesters without quite as much random club-swinging. But Chicago had had serious riots earlier that year after the King assassination, and the Mayor and the police were not about to let the protesters take over a Democratic convention in a Democratic city. The protesters were open about their intention to cause as much trouble and mayhem as possible, and the mayor who had earlier that year issued the "shoot to kill arsonists; shoot to maim looters" order was not going to take it lying down.

Chicago PD was not ready for the situation. The rioters where very successful in provoking the desired reaction form CPD.

OK, that interview is just bizarre. This is a gem:

My collection of Dead tapes, by the way, was the reason I heard one of the Linda Tripp tapes before Ken Starr did. Tripp's lawyer obviously needed to hear the tape before turning it over to the prosecutor, but he only had an old 1950's tape player and couldn't get it to work and Ken Starr wanted the tape the next morning. He was terrified he'd hit the wrong button and erase the evidence. In the wee hours of the morning, it occurred him, a Deadhead himself, that he knew one person in D.C. who definitely had a tape machine. So, at around 2 AM, he called me and asked to come over to use my tape deck.

No idea about that. Good question. I know the media went apeshit over the 1992 GOP convention after Buchanan spoke, but even then Bush got a bounce.

Hello! Mohammed Atta spent the summer of 2001 in Spain. Atta already spoke German as a resident of Hamburg, Germany. Are you kidding? ALQ folks speak many languages more than most of us.

Spain is full of folks who fund terrorist activities off hashish and stolen stuff which they move around the world somehow.

Sunday's WashingtonPost talked about how they're not using big financial organizations to move their money to support attacks against the infidel West.

One English sheep herder had several truckloads of sheep stolen on its way to the Halal shops. Terrorists sold the sheep for cash to fund jihad.

Terrorists now take out loans & default on them, to fund terrorism, per this article in Sunday's Washington Post.

Wonder if our housing mortgage default rate contributes somehow to global jihad.

It's all about managing expectations.

Obama's people will say that they'll expect a modest bounce up - figure 5-7 points. Clinton's people might say he would get 10-15 points. McCain's people might similarly say they expect him to get a big boost.

That way, if Obama gets a smaller than expected bounce, Clinton and McCain's people can both claim that Obama didn't do what he had to do. If Obama gets a bigger bounce than the one his people thought he'd get, he looks like he did better than they figured.

Of course, all that goes out the window if there's no bounce or he drops.

Seattle didn't provide relief for the cops, 18 hours on no provision for breaks or food. The order was not to provoke, not to engage and it got out of hand.... fast.

The next time Mardi Gras, SPD had orders to stay out of the crowd, that turned into a riot and Christopher Kime got beat to death within sight of SPD.

What to make of Michelle Obama's use the terms, “The world as it is” and “The world as it should be?”

From whence do they originate? Try Chapter 2 of Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules for Radicals. In last night's speech, Michelle Obama said something that peeked my curiousity. She said:
"Barack stood up that day," talking about a visit to Chicago neighborhoods, "and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about “The world as it is” and “The world as it should be..."

And, "All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won’t do – that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be."

Here’s an excerpt from Chapter 2 of Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules for Radicals:

"The means-and-ends moralists, constantly obsessed with the ethics of the means used by the Have-Nots against the Haves, should search themselves as to their real political position. In fact, they are passive — but real — allies of the Haves…The most unethical of all means is the non-use of any means... The standards of judgment must be rooted in the whys and wherefores of life as it is lived, the world as it is, not our wished-for fantasy of the world as it should be."

Your life once had purpose. There was a cause. You believed in it. You celebrated your self awareness with drugs and more drugs. You came through it dazed. Unsure of who you are. Where you fit in. You yelped from the sidelines here and there over the years. Maybe to find the glory. And you continued to do drugs and drugs. You landed a job here. Lied about your credentials there. Got fired somewhere else. Angry. Bitter. No purpose. Bile. Vitriol. Need an enemy. You found one again. Hello old friend. Yes there are others like me. I am not a freak. Hello freak. Chicago PD was not ready for the situation. The rioters where very successful in provoking the desired reaction form CPD.

And police departments all over the world have spent the last 40 years analyzing the 1968 Chicago riots to develop new tactics to insure that in later years would-be rioters would not be able to "re-create '68". Judging by what happened yesterday those new tactics have been very successful.

180 MadJadBad  Tue, Aug 26, 2008 11:06:52am

I found the quote that goes with my previous post.
From 'Al Queda's Fantasy Ideology' by Lee Harris

My first encounter with this particular kind of fantasy occurred when I was in college in the late sixties. A friend of mine and I got into a heated argument. Although we were both opposed to the Vietnam War, we discovered that we differed considerably on what counted as permissible forms of anti-war protest. To me the point of such protest was simple — to turn people against the war. Hence anything that was counterproductive to this purpose was politically irresponsible and should be severely censured. My friend thought otherwise; in fact, he was planning to join what by all accounts was to be a massively disruptive demonstration in Washington, and which in fact became one.

My friend did not disagree with me as to the likely counterproductive effects of such a demonstration. Instead, he argued that this simply did not matter. His answer was that even if it was counterproductive, even if it turned people against war protesters, indeed even if it made them more likely to support the continuation of the war, he would still participate in the demonstration and he would do so for one simple reason — because it was, in his words, good for his soul.

I find two things interesting about these photos:

First - The fact that in many of them the media seem to outnumber the protesters.

Second - The fact that so many of the protesters cover their faces. Is this out of paranoia or shame?

No idea about that. Good question. I know the media went apeshit over the 1992 GOP convention after Buchanan spoke, but even then Bush got a bounce.

Maybe Mondale, Dukakis or Jimmy Carter since they all had summer leads and got crushed. Lurch pretty much flatlined in 2004, IIRC.

I think Lurch should have come out and done the Cold Miser dance at the convention. That would have gotten him the bounce he was looking for.

I cannot watch "The Year Without a Santa Claus" without seeing Kerry as Cold Miser and W as Heat Miser. It made for an interesting campaign season, but now I'll never be able to forget it.

Two things which really bug me about all those peace-activists, so-called:
* covering their faces because of 'police brutality' and 'government repression'.
Well - the people who demonstrated against really oppressive regimes, like the Chinese in Tiananmen Square, or the East Germans before tha wall came down, did not cover their faces - and they had indeed much much more to fear than this bunch of wimps.
* this bleating about their freedom of speech and assembly - hey, how is that you are free to attack peaceful policemen and policewomen, but they are not allowed to subdue you to keep the peace for ordinary citizens? Too many drugs obviously addling their brains ...

Sometimes the Republican Party reminds me of the early Portugese explorers, who, when becalmed off the coast of Brazil, and dying of thirst, encountered another ship. They begged for water, for they were dying. They were told to simply dip their buckets over the sides of the ship to drink the fresh water flowing from the Amazon.

The fresh water of conservatism surrounds the Republican party, and yet they drink not.

In 1968 there was a draft, and a much bloodier ongoing war. Both of these things inspired a large protester turnout.

In addition, most of the leaders of those protests were of the same age, or close to it, as the body of the protesters.

Look at the rabble in Denver. Their "leaders" are sagging holdovers trying to recapture their glory days, forty years gone. Yes, they have their followers and hardcore acolytes, but there do not seem to be that many youngsters who are eager to form up behind these wizened relics.

Smarter cops and fewer/older "rioters". A "perfect storm" for the good guys!

It will be up to 93 today. That's not unusual. Aug. is our hottest month. For a matter of fact, it's been a much cooler Aug. then normal. Tomorrow it will be in the low 80's and into the 50's overnight.

It's been so cool this month, that the yellow jackets have already started to swarm, which doesn't normally happen until mid-Sept.

We hit about 95 yesterday. today's high - 65-70

Look at the rabble in Denver. Their "leaders" are sagging holdovers trying to recapture their glory days, forty years gone. Yes, they have their followers and hardcore acolytes, but there do not seem to be that many youngsters who are eager to form up behind these wizened relics.

The relics are more than happy to stand in the background and direct the dumbass youths to put themselves on the front line. Kind of reminds me of al Qaeda leaders directing others to put on suicide vests and martyr themselves. Luckily, the vast majority of our youngsters do have some sense of self preservation and wouldn't look kindly on that suggestion.

Mr. McCain, a tempestuous Russophobe to the marrow, demanded that the U.S. accelerate efforts to bring Georgia into NATO, thus extending a trip wire for war with Russia to Moscow's southern border. The U.N. said it based its findings solely on the testimony of villagers and meetings with Afghan officials, and did not provide photos or evidence that its investigators saw any graves.

President Hamid Karzai's government, in a harshly worded statement, ordered its ministries of foreign affairs and defense to regulate the presence of foreign troops and try to negotiate an end to "airstrikes on civilian targets, uncoordinated house searches and illegal detention of Afghan civilians."

The U.S. coalition has said it killed 25 militants and five civilians in an operation in Shindand district of Herat province on Friday.

Let's get this straight. No evidence that children were killed, and yet the UN says it happened. Nice.

Figures. Michelle Obama Quotes Lines From "Rules For Radicals" In Her DNC Convention Speech

Let's get this straight. No evidence that children were killed, and yet the UN says it happened. Nice.

Actually you can inflate the numbers even with evidence. You just change the definition of children.

I remember in the 90s Dems were still publicly pushing gun control and they needed to show the number of kids killed by guns was increasing. So they dropped the distinction between accidental and intentional homicide, raised the age of majority to 21, and completely ignored the actions of the victim. I remember in the 90s Dems were still publicly pushing gun control and they needed to show the number of kids killed by guns was increasing. So they dropped the distinction between accidental and intentional homicide, raised the age of majority to 21, and completely ignored the actions of the victim. So a dead gang-banging-crack-dealer was lumped in with a 7-year-old shot in a drive-by.

They are still attempting to bamboozle people into swallowing this b.s.

That was meant to be in quotes.

The "Yet again" was me referring to yet another idiot on the left (Lanny Davis wrote the same thing a couple of days ago) supporting Russia.

There's something up with my comments box.

Sometimes the type extends beyond the frame of the box and the quote, and link buttons on the top right disappear.

Thought I re-did it correctly.

My apologies for the down ding then. You can, you know, just type in the quote tags yourself. If you click on the quote button and then OK with out putting anything in the box you will see what the tags look like. I would show you here, but they would just disappear.

Human exoskeleton suit helps paralyzed people walk

The device, called ReWalk, is the brainchild of engineer Amit Goffer, founder of Argo Medical Technologies, a small Israeli high-tech company.

Something of a mix between the exoskeleton of a crustacean and the suit worn by comic hero Iron Man, ReWalk helps paraplegics -- people paralyzed below the waist -- to stand, walk and climb stairs.

Goffer himself was paralyzed in an accident in 1997 but he cannot use his own invention because he does not have full function of his arms.

The system, which requires crutches to help with balance, consists of motorized leg supports, body sensors and a back pack containing a computerized control box and rechargeable batteries.

The user picks a setting with a remote control wrist band -- stand, sit, walk, descend or climb -- and then leans forward, activating the body sensors and setting the robotic legs in motion.

"It raises people out of their wheelchair and lets them stand up straight," Goffer said. "It's not just about health, it's also about dignity."

Cindy Sheehan catches a man trying to wiretap her hotel room telephone

“As I walked toward my room, I noticed that the door was opened with the security bolt blocking the complete closing of the door. I knew immediately that I had not left the door open, and I double checked to make sure it was the right room because, as a frequent traveler, I have been known to forget my room number, but it was the right room.

I was upset at first thinking that housekeeping had made a mistake and left my room open and I was worried that something might be missing. So I walked into my room and bigger than life, there was a man standing by my desk holding the room phone with a screwdriver in his hand!

I immediately said; “What the hell are you doing? Are you putting a bug on my phone?” He looked like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and stammered out: “N–no, we are having problems with the phone.” I told him to get out of my room because my phone was fine and I called the front desk and the person at the front desk stammered something out about “problems” with some of the phones.

Whack job.

Venting: Dysfunctional Public Schools: Unaccountable, Abusing Children and getting Paid to do it.

So I am in a quandry as to how to handle our local dysfunctional high school.

The situation started 4 years ago when our child attended the first day of tennis practice for tryouts. She was unable to practice because the physical forms required, that we had turned in 8 weeks earlier - had been lost. She missed 3 days of a 5 day tryout - and did not make the team.

Year 2 - I turned in the paperwork and emphasize the imperative to not lose it. Secretary makes big production of showing me how she is carefully putting it in the coaches' box. Eight weeks later, first day of training - paperwork is missing. They find it in the coaches box where it sat, instead of being processed by the school doctor. Daughter misses 2 days of tryout - makes team.

Year 3 - hand deliver volleyball paperwork to vice-principal - different daughter. However, daughter shows up on 2nd day of tryout due to train terror alert (red), while she was out of town. Daughter is not allowed to try out for team because she had not provided a note indicating vacation - prior to the terror alert. Other students were allowed to try out late who had provided notes of pending vacation earlier in the summer. Coach does not understand - terror alert concept.

Year 4 - Daughter makes volleyball team.

Year 5 - Daughter starts practice in for volley ball in July. The staff explains that if she starts practicing even one time under a valid physical - that it is valid for the duration of the season for that sport.

When i drop it off, I re-verify with the office staff - it is true. Her physical should still be good. First day of tryouts, daughter is informed that her physical has expired and she is not allowed to try out. the doctors office says it takes 3-5 days to fill out the new form. Daughter attends all 5 days of tryouts, for a total of 15 hours, but only sits in to show support - as she is not allowed to practice. Forms arrive at school, the day before tryout end. Doctor checks them. Daughter does not make team.
The staff says that there is a disctinction between PRACTICE, and "OFFICIAL practice." Her form would have been good if she had started the OFFIcial practice with it valid and it would have carried through for the rest of the season.
Dysfunctional school: Sorry, we'll try not to have it happened next year.

Obama Gaffe-a-thon continues. Barry forgets which town he is in....probably due to lack of sleep.

DENVER — Last week, Republican John McCain didn't know how many homes he owns.

Tonight, Democrat Barack Obama didn't know what town he was in.

In a live satellite speech tonight to the Democratic National Convention in Denver from a home in Kansas City, Obama said: "I'm here with the Girardo family here in St. Louis."
Then came a graphic across the television screen that said Obama was in Kansas City, Mo.

Then 7-year-old Sasha Obama asked: "Daddy, what city are you in?"
"I'm in Kansas City, sweetie," Obama said, correcting his earlier geographic reference.

Obama was at the home in Kansas City tonight to watch his wife Michelle's keynote address, according to his campaign.

Obama is hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday at the American Airlines facility in Kansas City.

Unfortunate side-effect.

Many victims of wars and terror, and mainly car accidents, because the guys who can drive a tank, fly a warplane better than anyone in the world CANNOT DRIVE.

Yep - but other nations also have such victims, and do they develop something stunning like that?
Nope.

And look at Japan: they make cute little robots which bow and sqeak, or are like a metal dog.
They develop 'fun' stuff, but nothing as useful.

(And why the heck has nobody yet come up with a robot who does the cleaning, dusting etc etc for all us houswork-suppressed wimmin?)

Did you happen to note the lovely banners decorating the outside of the Pepsi Center for the convention. The artistic blue mountains rising into a pale sky - topped with the single Red Star that has historically represented communism.

re: #401 buzzsawmonkey

The Republicans used advertising and design knowledge with great sophistication in the Reagan years, but they've been falling off in this regard for some time, and the Democrats, who used to be terrible at it, have made great strides. In a society like ours, where advertising has replaced literature, music, religious narrative and fairy tales as the unifying element of the culture, this is not something the Republicans can continue to afford to do.

I'd say you're the man for the job, buzz "Prussian Blue" sawmonkey!

That's no weapon, that's "peacekeeper" Cindy McCain sent into Georgia to observe human rights!

(Why do these lies work when Russians say them?)

Because the Russian bear never lies, never!

re: #395 buzzsawmonkey

This is one of those situations where you need to talk to an attorney to see if this pattern of incompetence and misinformation is actionable--and whether the principal, the phys. ed. department, and the school board can be named personally as defendants.

What is the damage? That your children were deprived of their opportunity to compete for school programs to which they should have had access--and that the school's failure to accommodate them and regularize the paperwork as needed has damaged their college application resumes.

If the various actors in this sordid comedy are looking at personal liability, there may be a possibility that such performances will not be repeated.

My daughter and husband are both concerned about retaliation now that the roster has been posted. The principal said: You wouldn't want me making the coach take her on - that would cause problems, too. I am furious! She's attended almost 22 hours of practice: 6 of actual practice and 15 to show a good faith effort which she waited for the forms. The principal became highly defensive after I sent him a 3 page letter and said that the school board should at least know this was going on. He started to whine, whine whine about how hard his job is, and how ours is a rare case among 900 athletes. He's either oblivious - or it's sabatoge.

W's main failing hasn't really been of leadership, but of marketing. He has completely failed to market his entire Presidency, whether it is on the War, the Domestic Front, or even his Judges. Reagan was dubbed the Great Communicator. W could be called the "Non-Communicator", he plays everything so close to the vest. This may be an admirable trait in poker players, but it doesn't make for a popular (or successful) Presidency.

Great email posted by Lopez at NRO in support of Palin, for Sarah's fans; here's the core - more at The Corner Blog:

1) Connecting with the average Joe on wealth, lifestyle, likeability—-While fairly well-off, Palin is entirely self-made and not filthy rich (By the way, McCain did a great job answering the wealth question last night on Leno). She has working class creds: her husband is a commercial fisherman. She is an outdoorsman and hunter. She has something like 80-90% approval
ratings.

2) Sanctity of Life—-Palin is staunchly pro-life and will not fracture the
base. She has 5 kids and is proof positive of the wisdom of Feminists for
Life's the effective call to "refuse to choose"—women should not have to
give up motherhood for career/education or vice-versa.

3) Debates: Palin is an excellent speaker and in a debate with Biden he
would come off as the gasbag buffoon he is. And if he goes too far attacking her he comes off as Lazio did vs. Hillary, i.e., mean.

4) On-the-record statements against the nominee: She has no major
"differences" with McCain at least on the record the way Biden did w/ Obama (maybe one slight exception on energy where she expressed favor towards one particular element of Obama's energy plan, but nothing compared to Biden's praise of McCain).

In addition, Palin could increase the share of women voting GOP (maybe even grab some disaffected Clinton supporters if they can get over the abortion thing), plus she is such a darkhorse that it would be a total media blindside and thus create a huge story right when McCain needs to tamp down Obama's convention "bounce." Plus it makes the ticket exciting/fresh/hopeful (take your pick) and can help seize the change mantle back from Obama (rather than being another ticket of boring white guys.) Palin has a reformer/outsider image which dovetails well w/ McCain's themes. In Alaska she ran on an anti-corruption platform and totally toppled the Alaska GOP establishment. Finally, her oldest son is an enlisted soldier in Iraq, which, like McCain, gives her more credibility on war issues and with the military vote.

McCain and Huckabee are too similar in their often-democrat-sounding class warfare rhetoric. Palin could moderate McCain on that front, yet she too is a reformer who has "taken on big oil", etc. Huckabee is a tax-raiser who scares Wall Street. Plus his theocratic comments scare many McCain-inclined independents.
