Rice Wants More Israeli Goodwill Terrorist Releases
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's freeing of nearly 200 Arab terrorists the day before was a "good step" but not enough. "Obviously there is more that needs to be done… Both sides continue to have work to do," she told reporters before landing at Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday.
However, her only specific suggestions were aimed at Israel, which she said should remove more roadblocks and checkpoints, which were set up in Judea and Samaria to prevent unrestricted mobility for terrorists. She made no comments on obligations by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to fight terror but previously has said its American-trained police forces are proving it can maintain law and order.

I'm waiting for them to mention that Code Pink isn't so much about stopping war, they are about stopping the US.
They are just fine with war waged by terrorists. And Code Pink backs that up by giving money to terrorists.

A thoroughly respectful dismissal of Cindy Sheehan's ideas, a completely called-for treatment of Code Pink. And the acknowledgement that there are indeed nuts on both sides.
Well done, so far.

Sorry to go O/T, but f**k it.
I just watched James Carville and Anderson Cooper gush over the political prospects of Hurricane Gustav hitting the U.S. mainland during the RNC. It was so unbelievably disgusting that I am almost shaking with rage. Imagine if a couple of conservatives had sat around and had some glowing conversation about the prospects of a likely terrorist attack during a DNC event. What would the reaction to that have been? How much media coverage would have been devoted to the vilification of those conservatives?
Now ask yourself, how much coverage is this little back-and-forth going to get in the MSM? If you're wondering (and I know you aren't), the answer is NONE.
Son of a bitch am I angry right now.

Well, saw all three segments. Entertaining, it was. Penn Gillette sure does like to drop the F-bombs. It doesn't bother me, but I can appreciate that this would be off-putting to some folks.
The conclusion, that world free trade will ensure world peace, is, I believe, an over-simplification. It doesn't address the fact of fanatics of various stripes, like Communists and Islamists, who feel a moral imperative to force their ways upon an unwilling world.

I both understand and agree. I guess I wouldn't have a problem with such a stupid conversation were it not done on national television. Indeed, this same conversation is surely going on in every coffee shop and faculty lounge from Portland to Seattle. No matter the forum, such a conversation is still reprehensible, but to have it take place on a national telecast? That's just unreal.

Respectfully, I meant that we could burn ALL THE WEAPONS today, and tomorrow we would NOT HAVE PEACE, only the weaponless interlude as some struggle to CREATE WAYS of getting leverage on humans THEY BELIEVE are sub-human...
This is a human spirit reality. There can be NO military solutions to spiritual problems. Or political solutions to spiritual problems.
And EVERY human has a spirit, capable of rationally knowing love.
Change the spirit and you automatically change the thoughts, attitudes and actions of the human endowed with that spirit, yes? :D

The symposium with Al-Jareeza at the Buffalo Rose is suspose to take place around 6:00pm tomorrow. I have read, on a blog, that the bikers who frequent the place are going to show up and protest.
The BR is only 2 miles from where I live, and I have to stop by the theatre at 5:00pm, and the theatre is only 2 blocks away, so I am going to saunter over there with my camera and see what's happening.
A lot of our local bikers take an all day Sunday ride, and they stop mid-afternoon at the Buffalo Rose for lunch and booze, and there are normally 50 or more bikes parked outside up and down the street. And they are really mad that the club is hosting Al-Jazeera, so it may get interesting.
I'm not Zombie, but I can take a decent picture, so if I get anything of interest, I will post them on my server and put up a link, hopefully by tomorrow evening.

That's crap. Anyone who watches the video can see that.

Hey ggt, well I'm doing ok, still adjusting to the no coffee and no food for two hours before the extraction (don't want me throwing up from the general anesthesia) and the invevitable pain I'll be in later on.
But to heck with it, once it or they are out, they won't cause me the pain I've been in for like 2 months now!

That cop was way out of line. She didn't fake that.
Code Pink is a joke. But that guy abused both a woman and his privilege as an officer of the law, and in my opinion deserves to be punished by that same law.
Inconclusive. All we saw was him shove her with the baton. It looks like we only saw his response. It's unclear what she was doing-if anything. I want to see the whole thing, not that quick clip. BTW, you are NOT supposed to jump in a cop's face when they are doing crowd control. Again, it's not clear if she did that, but you invite a baton backed shove with such behavior. It's perfectly legal too.
The "bitch" comment was out of line though. Such comments can escalate the situation even when force isn't used. He will receive some disciplinary action, that's for sure.

1000 quatloos on the bikers.
Well, I have a vantage point above the action if I need it. I was talking to someone tonight, and they said some of the local cops are going to be stationed in a nail botique across from the Buffalo Rose. Well, the owner of the botique is a good friend of mine, so I may just see if I can hide out there.
But I do intend to get into the thick of the crowd.
These bikers are not your Hells Angel types, at least not anymore. For a matter of fact, they look like moonbats in leather, many in their 50's, and they are all American, and not prone to doing something really stupid.
Some of the local vets from the VFW should be there too.

Interesting how you ingnore her saying, "fucking do it again!" That was directed at the cop. I didn't hear that the first time I saw it, but I did the times after that.
It seems the sequence of events is like so. She jumps in his face possibly making contact with the officer. He pushes her back once, she gets angry and issues her challenge before she jumps back into his face. At that point he is fully justified to do what he did.

I thought his campaign advisors did a HELLUVA great job getting him to where he is - I mean, seriously, he's a nobody - an empty suit with no really new ideas (hell, hardly any ideas at all) no experience in governing ANYTHING, only 2 years in the Senate (when he started) and all that Jeremiah Wright stuff, Ayers, his grandmother etc, etc etc and he's STILL gonna be the Dem nominee. Saw it yesterday. Alex Jones was on a local radio talk show this morning, and he claims she provoked the whole thing JUST BECAUSE SHE WAS THERE.
Really, he was explaining that it was her presence alone that required him to take the stance that he did.
I've never seen him before, heard about some of his opinions etc., but I'll tell you, after seeing the video and hearing him on the radio this morning, it don't take a psych degree to tell that he is mentally ill.

This guy (or his handlers) have managed to cloud the line between politics and entertainment. I mean, it's ok to "party" around the person you hope to see as your next president, but when that person becomes the party himself, well, it's no different than hiring a clown to perform at your kids birthday party.
Did that make any sense?

Yes (although I have never seen any of the Spawn (?) movies).
I'm not jaded, and I'm not special. I'm not above anyone, I don't posess any greater insight into world afairs, but good old common sense tells me Obama is a worthless sack of shit. I can see that, and it is really a shame that so many Americans have lost their ability to measure a person.

I share P & T's disdain for the kumbaya, Rodney King-style world-view that's held by most of the "peace activists". What I can not, and will not put up with is their over-abundance of classless language.
A few well chosen expletives can have a lively effect. P & T's abusage of the language (in just the first 30 seconds) is simply deadening.
So, before I'm accused of wanting to stifle freedom of speech, lemme say that I stopped the video after 45 seconds -- but due to all y'all's comments, I was able to pretty much know what 'twas about. I have to tolerater that sort of smack at work, I choose not to put up with it at home -- that is all.
Mark Twain's wife (I think it was) was put off by some of the "rough language and decided to fight fire with fire -- hoping to shock some restaint into he husband, she started using as much obscene language as she could think of. He listened, smiled and said, "You know the words, but you don't know the tune.

Pesky Secret Ballot At Stake
‘Card check’ bill needs a few more Dem senators and Obama as president
BY SEAN HIGGINS INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY
If Tom Donohue has his way, nobody will be using the words “card check” this fall. Instead they’ll be talking about “secret ballot.”
For Donohue, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, that’s “the major reason” he’s in Denver: to get Democrats to think differently about the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as card check.
At stake is a potentially radical change in how unions are organized that would almost certainly expand their power. Unions think they’ll get their way if Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., becomes president. Donohue fears they may be right.
“The main thing is that we want to keep enough people in the Senate to maintain the filibuster,” he said.
/the stakes of this election are so high it's almost unimaginable

After nearly 45 years (22 Nov. 1963) I still remember nearly every second of that day, and the horrible weeks after it. I was starting my 9th month of my first pregnancy, and we were living in a suburb of my native Boston, as my Brooklynite husband was in the US Army, stationed at the now-defunct Boston Army base.
Up until 9/11, a lot of my generation talked about 'before the President's assassination'...now? 9/11 takes first place, and I only pray that there will never be anything like these 2 disasters to strike our nation.

My memories are not from books. They are from a day that I will never forget. Never.
Books are written with agendas. Living through the event is a totally different thing.
Having lived through both the assassination and 9/11, I cannot and will not forget. Our kids and a daughter in law and future son in law also were directly affected. I still get scared when a plane flies what seems to be too low on the flight path to LaGuardia, as at certain times it does go over...and live in a community where there are kids who lost one or both parents and also some who were babies and toddlers, and have no memory of the parent or parents they lost.
Can you thimk of even one ting that JFK did to deserve being assassinated, leaving a widow and 2 young kids?

I remember that day very well. I was in the ninth grade of an East Texas school. The speaker came on, one was placed in the upper center of each room for special announcements, and the school principle said that the President had been shot in Dallas and was dead. We were really too young to understand the significations of this statement. But I do remember that tv event, the next Sunday, of the Presidents funeral, the lone horse riding down Pennsylvania avenue. It always made me to believe that this country is always defined by the quality of our leadership, to do what has to be done to insure our freedom. When that leadership is no longer given as a understood right, then God has surely abandened us.

Dear dork;
You swine. You vulgar little maggot. You worthless bag of filth. As we sayin Texas, I'll bet you couldn't pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel.
You are a canker. A sore that won't go away. I would rather kiss a lawyer than be seen with you. You're a putrescent mass, a walking vomit. You are a spineless little worm deserving nothing but
the profoundest contempt. You are a jerk, a cad, a weasel. Your life is a monument to stupidity. You are a stench, a revulsion, a big suck on a sour lemon.
You are a bleating foal, a curdled staggering mutant dwarf smeared richly with the effluvia and offal accompanying your
alleged birth into this world. An insensate, blinking calf, meaningful to
nobody, abandoned by the puke-drooling, giggling beasts who sired you and then killed themselves in recognition of what they had done. I will never get over the embarrassment of belonging to the same species as you. You are a monster, an ogre, a malformity. I barf at the very thought of you.
You have all the appeal of a paper cut. Lepers avoid you. You are vile,
worthless, less than nothing. You are a weed, a fungus, the dregs of this earth. And did I mention you smell? Try to edit your responses of unnecessary material before attempting to impress us with your insight. The evidence that you are a nincompoop will still be available to readers, but they will be able to access it more rapidly. The food you eat reviles you.
You snail-skulled little rabbit. Would that a hawk pick you up, drive its
beak into your brain, and upon finding it rancid set you loose to fly briefly before spattering the ocean rocks with the frothy pink shame of your ignoble blood.
May you choke on the queasy, convulsing nausea of your own trite, foolish beliefs. You are weary, stale, flat and unprofitable. You are grimy, squalid, nasty and profane. You are foul and disgusting. You're a fool, an ignoramus. Monkeys look down on you. Even sheep won't have sex with you.
You are unreservedly pathetic, starved for attention, and lost in a land
that reality forgot. And what meaning do you expect your delusionally self-important statements of unknowing, inexperienced opinion to have with us? What fantasy do you hold that you would believe that your tiny-fisted tantrums would have more weight than that of a leprous desert rat, spinning rabidly in a circle, waiting for the bite of the snake?
You are a waste of flesh. You have no rhythm. You are ridiculous and
obnoxious. You are the moral equivalent of a leech. You are a living emptiness, a meaningless void. You are sour and senile. You are a disease, you puerile, one-handed, slack-jawed, drooling, meatslapper. On a good day you're a half-wit. You remind me of drool.
You are deficient in all that lends character. You have the personality of
wallpaper. You are dank and filthy. You are asinine and benighted. You are the source of all unpleasantness. You spread misery and sorrow wherever you go. You smarmy lagerlout git. You bloody woofter sod. Bugger off, pillock. You grotty wanking oik artless base-court apple-john.
You clouted boggish foot-licking twit. You dankish clack-dish plonker. You

You are a fiend and a coward, and you have bad breath. You are degenerate, noxious and depraved. I feel debased just for
knowing you exist. I despise everything about you, and I wish you would go away somewhere and die the most gruesome
death immaginable. I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid.

It was indescribable, and living in Boston, it was eery...almost no traffic, and the department stores down town had their windows empty..except for a window with a portrait of our murdered presdent, draped in black crepe, on an easel.
My parents zt"l thought it would be a good idea to take my husband and me for a ride, as I kept weeping...and seeing the portraits, and the empty streets? My Mum was weeping too. My parents were Republicans. We went back to my parents' home, and watched the events on TV...no, I will never remember.
We have all seen presidents who we cannot stand, but I would like to think that no one ever wishes that they be assassinated.
We are a democracy, damn it.

re: #239 NY Nana
I have no use for Caroline, but she went through hell...
i never said, let alone intimated, that he should have been killed. however, the death of one person, for reasons that are, and likely will forever, remain hazy are completely different than an overt act of war, albeit one conducted by a non-nation state who had effectively already declared war on our very way of life.

There has never been peace in the world as we have known it - look back through the ages and try to find an extended time in which peace reigned.
Other than during the time of Elizabeth I, but she fought hard to maintain that "peace".
World peace? A fantasy of those who foolishly believe that everyone else in the world feels like they do. Sadly, they do not consider the Islamofacists, nor do they consider the Russians nowadays.
"World Peace" is maintained by a country that is ready to confront the evils that provoke it.
And that would be the US.

What she said may have been direct and up-front but nothing she said went against the free trade and capitalism contribute more to world peace then idiotic babble by socialist middle aged women and that homosexual guy with the red shirt.
I agree. She always said, "if necessary". Given the context I think she was pretty much on the same page.
But did anyone notice? P&T said the answer to peace is "money" (which is not the same thing as capitalism). Eventually they called it "economic freedom". But did they ever really say "Capitalism encourages peace?" Even they shied away from this "dirty word".
Excellent demonstration at the end, though. Peace through respecting individual rights (of which capitalism is only a subset). So simple, yet so awesome!

John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich: "Egad sir, I do not know whether you will die on the gallows or of the pox."
John Wilkes: "That will depend, my Lord, on whether I embrace your principles or your mistress."
(often falsely attributed to Gladstone and Disraeli, though not by anyone who knows anything about them.)
Disraeli did say, in response to a question about the difference between a misfortune and a calamity:
"If Gladstone fell into the Thames, that would be a misfortune; and if anybody pulled him out, that I suppose would be a calamity."

Churchill has a number of excellent zingers, iirc.
One of Churchill's less publicized zingers came during the dispute over nationalization of major industry that followed the Labour Party's victory in the election of 1945. Churchill was out as PM but of course he retained his seat in parliament as leader of the opposition.
It happened that the members' washroom included a long trough-type urinal. One day, the Labour PM, Clement Atlee, was standing at one end of the trough when Churchill entered and ostentatiously took up a position at the opposite end, a full twenty feet away.
"Feeling unsociable today, Winston?" Atlee asked.
"No, Clem, it's just that every time you see something big, you try to nationalize it."

Another good one !
Here's a somewhat longer one . . .
During one election campaign, Churchill was speaking in a church hall in rural England. The hall was decorated in the well accepted colour scheme of that era - mission brown up to shoulder height, then cream up to and including the ceiling. When he finished his speech Churchill called for questions. The first came from a middle-aged woman dressed in country tweeds. “Mr. Churchill, I am a member of the Temperance League,” she said. “My local branch has been examining your use of alcohol. Are you aware, Prime Minister, that during your lifetime to date you have consumed enough alcohol to fill this hall up to here,” she asked, stretching her arm dramatically to indicate the top of the mission brown zone on the wall. “We want to know what you intend to do about it?” Churchill looked at the woman, following her arm to the top of the mission brown zone, and then he slowly allowed his gaze to move up through the cream zone to the ceiling, and replied, “So little time, so much to do.”

Hollyworld:
Tennis-player Mark Mathabane grew up in the segregated Soweto township in apartheid era South Africa.
As a youngster, he and his friends spent a great deal of time at the local third-run movie house, where an all-day ticket cost something like the equivalent of four cents.
This was in the mid-60s, when the fare consisted mostly of American westerns and badly dubbed Italian gladiator movies, with an occasional crime drama thrown in to liven things up. This was all young Mathabane and his friends ever saw of the outside world or of white people.
Mathabane says that when he was 6 or 7, he assumed from this that his own people were segregated for their own protection and were therefore some kind of privileged caste, since they might otherwise wander into a gladiatorial combat or a shoot-out and come to grief in the insanely violent world of the white man.

Hillary is a good speaker. That doesn't mean that a single speech is convincing or that what she says is anything other than BS. Look at Obama after all - ever word out of his mouth is Marxist, whiney crap. He says it beautifully though - at least as long as he can see the teleprompter.

Obama would raise individual income taxes, increasing the top two income tax rates, with the top rate climbing by 13%, to almost 40%. This tax increase particularly hits small business, which creates the most new jobs in America.* Obama would raise the top capital gains tax rate by 33%, to 20%.
* He would also raise the top dividends tax rate by 33%, to 20% as well.
* He would raise Social Security payroll taxes by 16% to 32% for families earning over $250,000 a year.
Its about time all you rich bastards pay your fair share!
Hey! where did all the rich business owners go?

Come to Canada, we have better and more tax breaks. And we are moving in a more conservative direction. :)

What rich? Haha. I work at Baskin Robbins for eleven freakin' bucks an hour and I still think this is ridiculous.
I'm glad that my parents taught me that hard work is the only way to get anywhere in life.

Governor of New York. Richardson is Governor of New Mexico. Neither of them have undertaken any sensitive missions anywhere lately that I know of.
The blind guy, right? Yeah, I have no explanation.
Richardson's a proven, dependable envoy who can keep a secret.
/without high security clearances, we have very little idea about what our Executive Branch is really doing, because if we know, the enemy knows

Almost as ridiculous as Gore-bull warming alarmists flying from conference-to-conference in learjets and insisting that your '91 Civic [hypothetical here, bear with me] that you use to drive to and from your $11 an hour job is melting the polar icecaps and dooming makind?
