Well, both are correct. It is the largest, and still by a significant margin over the Russians (or Chinese). Problem is that Clinton did most of the gutting, and Bush has been trying to build it up, and to create a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude (sorry, had to throw in a KFM reference). Bush has succeeded - the US military is incredibly lethal and capable of handling any situation, but with evolving threats, they can't rest on their laurels and needs additional troops so that we're better prepared going forward.

I think I can hear the steam comin' outta TFK's ears from here.

Kerry promised to release his entire military record years ago, but never did. Suspicion was that he was dishonorably discharged for his anti-military activities, but that Democrat President Jimmy Carter's pardon of Vietnam draft dodgers forced the military to change his discharge to honorable.

With his entire military record, we'll never know for sure.

But in the main election, I believe Ogonowski will be the Republican opponent. We don't hear of him right now, but it makes sense to conserve the money.

Listening to NPR. Commentator just asked a black Mississippi delegate whether "he was proud of BO as a black American."

The delegate said that he'd never expected to see a serious black candidate for President in his lifetime, then went on to talk about people "looking past race."

In other words, the black thing--totally racist--is good, and laudable, for black people. Applied to whites, it's "looking past race."

But we all knew that.

Black people can't be racist because they have no power. Di-int you know that whiteyracistcracka?

I won't be watching the Chia Pet's speech....way too tired. Red Sox are up 7-2 over the Yankees in the 8th. That's what I want to fall asleep to. Not some screaming Hair Club for Men member.

Our State Attorneys race consisted of two Republicans. One had been a rep. their whole life, the other for the past two years. Obviously, the latter was told if he wanted to win (he didn't) he needed to switch parties. Never know anymore.

Sorry, where I work at they are the power. We just had the northern "white" suburb of Dunwoody create their on city because the county absolutely would not respond to even the mildest request for equal services and facilities to the majority black south county. The County wouldn't even do a "town hall meeting" to discuss the issues with them. It's the "old boy" system replaced by the "home boy" system. Just as racist, but still tolerated by the government.....

So far I would say that the Democrats are acting a little like girly men. They have completely geared this convention towards women. If the Republicans put on a more manly convention, they will win. They just can't go wimp-for-wimp with the Democrats.
