Conventional Discussion Thread 10

Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 5:25:06 pm PDT

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson just finished advocating invading Pakistan (a recurring theme at this Dem convention), and here’s a thread to discuss the final approach to the Chosen One’s speech on the steps of the Parthenon.

Well, Denver’s Invesco Field, anyway.

Every seat in the stadium is full, and many of these seats’ occupants will be weeping before the night is through. The place is lousy with celebrities.

There is no such thing as global warming, it's called climate change.

Its not about them opening their own wallets, its about them trying to convince you to open yours, without them opening theirs. If that doesnt work, then the idea is to get into power and legislate into law the ability to take from your wallet, send it overseas or wherever, and still a hold of their own dosh.

Look at Bono as these other self-righteous bastards that have more money than a bull can sh*t. They should put up or shut up.

Update on the parking issue. I just heard on the radio that for security purposes, there is no parking at the stadium.

That helps explain why the private lots are bumping up their prices to as much as they think the market will bear.

The stadium has enough parking for about 60 thousand. That's a lot of spaces to loose tonight.

Obama will deliver a message of salvation. The American people are in a state of despair. The one will offer them hope. Choirs of angles will sing glorious to the Messiah. Praise to Obama...speak but the word and my soul will be healed.

You are all going to lose your homes, Enter the world's savior, the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world...we are not worthy

The economy is the worse it has ever been...income is shrinking...speak but a word and our souls will be healed.;

The world is aflame with unjust wars and murder...McCain will keep us in Iraq for another 25 years, he will attack Iran, he will murder more children...he is more of the same... Enter Obama, he will lead us to the promised land.

Nobody has medical insurance anymore...Bush has taken it all away... Don't worry Obama is here and there is hope...

Our status in the world has deteriorated...nobody likes us anymore... Obama is the One we have been waiting for....

This convention is like a coronation...the previous speakers...the angels of change, the principalities of hope all spoke on the big stage...but now it is the "chosen one's" turn and the stage isn't big enough for him....so he will speak at the stadium and the masses will come all 80,000 of them. He will be crowned...his coronation will astound all of Europe as they geneflect at his feet. Obama, Obama in the highest...

excuse me while I puke....

He has also served on the House Financial Services Committee and on the House International Relations Committee and the very powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Since his second term, he has served as chief deputy Republican whip, the highest appointed position in the Republican caucus.

The economy is the worse it has ever been...income is shrinking...speak but a word and our souls will be healed.;

Kinda sounds like the rise of the Antichrist to me.
BTW... I might be wrong, but isn't the set a facsimile of the front of the US Supreme Court?

Well here's the advance text of the Obamessiah's sermon.

Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach.

These challenges are not all of government’s making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush.

America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.

Piss and moan, rinse, repeat.

They should have stayed at the Pepsi Center. They could have protected him. Instead they have National Guard, police, state troopers....from everywhere...secret service up the wahoo....ban the airlines from fly overs, close 5 miles of Interstate....

But this is for the people they say. The cult following....just like every Democrat program for the people. It looks good, it feels good, but other's have to pay for it all. All those donations to help get people elected going for one night, one show.

How many citizens in Denver will need police tonight and find that they are all at the stadium? The audacity of audacity.

Quick OT from Powerline"

V.P. Buzz

Rumors swirling around John McCain's Vice-Presidential choice are now focusing mainly on Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported on the buzz surrounding Pawlenty a little while ago. I've thought for a while that Tim is the most likely--and best--choice, but that's not based on any inside knowledge. To an impressive degree, a cone of silence has descended around McCain's decision. People whom you'd expect to know, if anyone does, don't.

So it's still speculation, and I still think it's Tim Pawlenty.

Sorry to hear Michael McDonald politicize his performing there tonight. Won't buy any more of his CD's after hearing his nasty comments. Take Six originally started singing together when they were students at a small Christian college in Alabama many years ago.

I was really afraid that Barack Hubris-Obama would pick Algore as his running mate. Hopefully McCain will make a good choice with his VP and will win this election big time. I think many of us are going to miss Dubya when he's no longer POTUS.

re: #164 Taqyia2Me

Am I the only one who remembers MLK as one who endorsed civil disobedience?
As opposed to Wright and Ayers, of the Obama mentoring group, who proscribe horrific violence to acheive their means?
So isn't this whole campaign one gigantic slap in the face of the civil rights movement?

The entire black leadership of today, including Rev. Wright, Farrakhan, and Obama himself, are gigantic slaps in the face of MLK and the civil rights movement.
The anti-Semitism of much of the leadership is a slap in the face of the many Jews who supported blacks in their fight, now largely won, to get equal rights and opportunities. And it is that same leadership that has told blacks that they can't get anywhere without affirmitive action and special treatment. They are all racists, putting their fellow blacks down to keep their cushy "leadership" roles. They're almost as bad as the white racists.
Note how Obama said that Clarence Thomas was one justice he did not like. That's because Thomas worked to get where he is; it wasn't handed to him like Obama's positions.

Buzzsaw - Now I see it.

We starve-look at one another
Short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation
Of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes

Somewhere
Inside something there is a rush of greatness
Who knows what stands in front of our lives
I fashion my future on films in space
Silence tells me secretly
Everything
Everything

Manchester England England
Manchester England England
(Eyes look your last)
Across the Atlantic Sea
(Arms take your last embrace)
And I'm a genius genius
(And lips oh you the doors of breath)
I believe in God
(Seal with a righteous kiss)
And I believe that God believes in Claude
(Seal with a righteous kiss)
That's me, that's me, that's me
The rest is silence
The rest is silence
The rest is silence

We starve-look at one another
Short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation
Of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes

Singing
Our space songs on a spider web sitar
Life is around you and in you
Answer for Timothy Leary, deary

Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sunshine in
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sunshine in
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sun shine in...

re: #542 Kosh's Shadow

Apparently congress persons Wasserman & Wexler are being tossed out of Jewish retirement communities in Florida , when they try to stuump for Barry. This from a guy from American Thinker who was on Dennis Miller.

I'm getting worried. The radio hosts here are talking about how the crowd is getting more and more worked up. I'm afraid that we are going to reach spontaneous combustion and downtown Denver is going to go poof!

As I mentioned on the previous thread, it brings to mind an observation made by P.J. O'Rourke while talking about the Live Aid hootenanny back in the '80s -- Fiddling While Africa Starves:

A mob, even an eleemosynary mob, is an ugly thing to see. No good ever came of mass emotion. The audience that's easily moved to tears is as easily moved to sadistic dementia. People are not thinking under such circumstances.

In the middle of the Live Aid broadcast, my friend called me. "Turn on the television," he said, "This is horrible. They're in a frenzy."

"Well," I said, "at least it's a frenzy of charity."

"Oh, no," he said, "it could be anything. Next time it might be 'Kill the Jews.'"

762 razorbacker  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 6:28:48pm

>Mr. Surber has a post up.

Democratic Sen. Barack Obama makes history tonight, but mars his speech with a few errors.

The Boston Globe broke the embargo on his speech. Let’s run it through the fact-checker.

1. “Four years ago, I stood before you and told you my story – of the brief union between a young man from Kenya and a young woman from Kansas who weren’t well-off or well-known, but shared a belief that in America, their son could achieve whatever he put his mind to.”

FACT: His father went back to his wife and son in Kenya and had little to do with Obama, while his mother married his stepfather and they moved to Indonesia.

2. “But the record’s clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush ninety percent of the time. Senator McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush was right more than ninety percent of the time? I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to take a ten percent chance on change.”

FACT: True. Logic does not follow that McCain has poor judgment. Considering Bush was re-elected by a majority — a re-election feat no Democrat has enjoyed since FDR — shows that perhaps the American public agreed with Bush most of teh time, at least through his first 4 years.

3. “You see, we Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country.”

FACT: True.

3. “Change means a tax code that doesn’t reward the lobbyists who wrote it, but the American workers and small businesses who deserve it.”

FACT: His vice presidential candidate has a son who is a lobbyist.

4. “I will cut taxes -– cut taxes -– for 95% of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class.”

FACT: Under George Walker Bush the number of working Americans who pay no federal income tax rose from 29 million to 45 million, or roughly 30% of all people who work. It is doubtful that he could eliminate taxes for another 90 million earners to raise that percentage to 95%.

And they would still have to pay FICA, and with the employer match, that 15% of one’s pay.

5. “I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.”

FACT: He called for withdrawing our troops unilaterally by March 31, 2008, despite the agreement by most observers that this would devastate Iraq and according to a New York Times editorial which advocated this position, possibly genocide.

That’s hardly responsible.

By the way, the war is over. We won. Iraqis want us to drive home safely. Please tell Obama.

If I understand the premise, every problem the US will face in the future will be telegraphed so the ONE will have a telegraphed response..

I do not wish to elect a POTUS who selects his actions based on a teleprompter response. I want a POTUS that does what is best for the nation. Perception of the world's problems pales in comparison of the realitiy.

This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.

Yes, the Vietnam war was all about racist Americans killing "the yellow man".
Springsteen is a stupid f***.

It is nauseating to watch the CNN anchors fawn over The Chosen One.

re: #940 Intrepid

Sean Hannity is batting 1000 with the question for his VIP guests - last night was Mike Dukakis, tonight is the diminutive Dennis Kucinich. He asks:

"Please give me a list of Barack Obama's actual accomplishments."

Neither one could answer with anything other than rhetorical crap.

That question needs to be a McCain add, polling people on the street.

I've said before, McCain has got to use these non responses as an ad! The ums and uhs as they sit there desperately trying to come up with a SINGLE Obama accomplishment is priceless!

5th sob story:

I'm a Kathy Bates look-alike.

We had a house, cars (plural), a 401k plan, had four children, saved money.

Even with all these benefits, and my job as a nurse, I couldn't afford health insurance*

*You sure about that

/it's a terrible country where both spouses are able to get the best heart surgery in the world...

Palandine -

Any time I hear that "Socialized Medicine" is better - I have a two (2) word Answer - BELINDA STRONACH,( MP, AURORA, ON.) When Her's were really in the wringer with Cancer, the she decided to opt out of Medical "Public Financing" and get cured in the "BAD OLD" USA. Oh - and by the way - she is very friendly with former President William Jefferson Clinton. Her illness must have been embarrassing as she chose to be cured rather than die for the cause.

The wife and daughters of General Robert E. Lee ran schools for black children, even though it was against the law, both prior to and during the Civil War.

Former talk show host sentenced to more than seven years in prison

Liberal douchebag Bernie Ward is going to the pen for 7 years. That should perk us up. Certainly puts a big smile on my face.

I just saw the Barack/Mrs. Biden face-suck on my DVR'd O'Reilly. It was creepy. I can just imagine him meeting the Queen of England. Jimmah is reportedly the one President whom the Queen publicly did not like, because he kissed her on the lips.

Let's see, most Democrats voted to authorize the use of force to remove Saddam in 2003, after years of supporting the official Clinton Admin position for Regime Change in Iraq; Now suddenly, at election times, are magically opposed to the removal of a Saddam, a man that caused two wars, was a state sponsor of terrorism, harbored terrorists, thumbed his nose at the peace treaty he sued for after Gulf War I, grafted his way through black market oil sales via UN endorsed "Oil for Food", and are now endorsing the need to invade a nuclear tipped Pakistan?

The Democrats are desperate, they have nothing but pomp and party. Fake enthusiasm wrapped in negative rhetoric about how the economy is wrecked, how the country is in a desperate state mere moments from becoming a Third World Nation - and only the demagogue Obama can save us through "change".

The message of the Democrats: America is a failed state and only Obama can save it......

What a crock of shit....All of my friends and family are better off than we were 8 years ago, and we are safer too.
