Well, almost. We're looking at $5 a gallon for heating oil this winter. But that is not the fault of the President. If any group is to blame, then I would place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the do-nothing Congress that has managed to pass less than 200 bills this session - the lowest in history.

243 neverquit  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 7:27:18pm

Let's see, most Democrats voted to authorize the use of force to remove Saddam in 2003, after years of supporting the official Clinton Admin position for Regime Change in Iraq; Now suddenly, at election times, are magically opposed to the removal of a Saddam, a man that caused two wars, was a state sponsor of terrorism, harbored terrorists, thumbed his nose at the peace treaty he sued for after Gulf War I, grafted his way through black market oil sales via UN endorsed "Oil for Food", and are now endorsing the need to invade a nuclear tipped Pakistan?

The Democrats are desperate, they have nothing but pomp and party. Fake enthusiasm wrapped in negative rhetoric about how the economy is wrecked, how the country is in a desperate state mere moments from becoming a Third World Nation - and only the demagogue Obama can save us through "change".

The message of the Democrats: America is a failed state and only Obama can save it......

What a crock of shit....All of my friends and family are better off than we were 8 years ago, and we are safer too.

Just ought to be repeated.

Isn't Obama whining? Tovarishch Obama—give me rich people's money too, I'm tired of working 50- 60 hour weeks in a thankless job I'm overqualified for (and overqualified for my supervisor's job, too.) I want to steal from the rich, too.

Just what is Obama proposing?

I wouldn't trust Obama to pick up a dollar from the sidewalk.

Clinton was elected on just such a weak appeal - but I don't think it will work for Obama. I pray it won't.

This idiot has a heck of a ground game working for him, and we MUST beat him at it, or you are now looking at the next POTUS. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE must get involved. I am totally convinced that the future prosperity and well-being of this nation depends upon our action.

It's a great day because a black man has been nominated by a major party for President in the USA. MLK is smiling in heaven right now.

Unfortunately, Barack Obama, the person, is a megalomaniac. Everything is about him, he thinks. His lawyers are off filing criminal charges at anyone who makes a strong argument against Obama. If he becomes President, his Attorney General will be the chief prosecutor of the United States. Obama would make Nixon look like an angel. It would be terrible if the first black President gets impeached, yet with Obama that is likely the best we could get.

For the sake of civil rights, we need vote against Obama.

This reminds me a bit of one of President Clinton's state of the union speeches: a huge laundry list of feel-good rah-rah things that are stated as "we will do this" with no substance of how he plans to accomplish his lofty goals. Then toss in a dose of "everything awful and we have to CHANGE it" with a few sly jabs at Sen. McCain. That's all this is.

- Of course our oil demand has risen. How quickly has the country grown in those 26 years?

- Of course oil is a stopgap! It doesn't last forever (we think)

- Where is he going to get all this money from for helping auto companies, research into alternative energies, paying for new teachers, paying for every student, while cutting taxes?

I notice they nixed the Greek columns being actually behind him (along with the halo...). We all probably shouldn't have clued them in on how visibly fascist that was. What is that stuff behind him -- are those supposed to suggest prison windows -- the gulag we'll end up in for not supporting the One? Shoji screens -- he's planning on sealing the deal selling us to the Japanese?

...Heroes... What about Frank Davis, the pornographer? Boy, this is all the usual blah-blah -- zero specifics about how to implement all gooey platitudes. Seems so benign and IS so sinister.

O! He's going to "spell it out" for us! Ha! No capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups! That and his "praetorian guard"-- those up to $250K! Ha! That's it. Bet he'll give a bunch of breaks to non-profits that play ball with the Socialist States of America. too! Ooo! He'll "recruit an army of new teachers!" Generalisimo Obama...

Ok. Lizards -- we are the core of communications, now. Stay on this guy after Disneyworld is over and continue to expose his deception and the "mob" mentality he's worked so hard to create. Ban the Kool-Aid! Think!, America! Thanks, as always, to Charles, our Lizard Founder, for the opportunity for us to know we are all here and that there are SO MANY of us!
Thanks, fellow-Lizards. Serially....

He's lying about taxes. He's going to raise the capital gains tax.

/how many Americans own stocks, only 5%?

About half of American households own stocks, either directly or indirectly in retirement accounts like 401ks.

Hence Obama's claim that his capital gains tax increases will only penalize the "rich" is BS on its face.

hello galloping granny,

in answer to your comment in the last thread about the smart college age kids who see right through Obama.... I think you're right. I hope there are just enough of them (and I'm sure those smart young Repub voters will get themselves to the polls) to make up for the dunces who will crowd the ROCK the VOTE! buses Soros sends to the college campuses on election day.

Actually, I didn't mean college kids. I don't know many of that age group - though we do have a few that show up early mornings here. I was talking about the 11-14 year olds.

Did you know that one President can do the following in his term? Barack Obama promised in his speech to:

- cut taxes on 95% of Americans
- make America energy independent
- create 5 million new jobs
- send every child to college
- give affordable, accessible health care to every American
- protect Social Security for future generations
- mandate that women will be paid as much as men
- close corporate tax loopholes
- eliminate every government program that doesn't work
- make every American a better person, who keeps their responsibility
- invade Pakistan, a nation of over 167 million hardcore Muslims
- overcome terrorism, Russia, Al Qaeda, poverty, and disease
- lose in Iraq
- restore America's moral standing
- keep the promise of America by upholding gay rights like same-sex marriage and not taking babies from their mothers
- Start a new day in politics where we can agree to disagree and avoid bashing the other side personally like in the politics of the past
- Keep the promise of Martin Luther King, a Republican, of America, and of scripture by preventing John McCain from taking office

Crazy, terrible speech. I'll be voting McCain. That said, I truly hope we can put this race shit behind us now and all be Americans.

Fire marshal puts field on lockdown

The fire marshal shut down access to the field at Invesco, shutting out a crowd of about 100 that quickly grew angry.

The marshal decided shortly before 7 p.m. there were too many people on the field. At the north tunnel entrance, security officers blocked people from walking inside. A line of about 12 firefighters and police officers then were called in to get people to move away from the entrance.

Among those in the crowd that couldn't get in were members of Congress, Democratic National Convention Committee staff and delegates — who began holding their green credentials in the air and shouting "Delegates! Delegates!"

As they shouted, police officials yelled, "Get back" and "Back up."

/a perfect metaphor for this vulgar trainwreck of a campaign

I hate to sound emotional, but I can feel butterflies in my stomach -- the kind you get during an upside-down roller-coaster ride.

I can't take this. I don't like McCain. He's a RINO and doesn't really represent my world view.

But so help me, I will try to do everything legitimately possible to allow him to win. I don't ever want to feel this dejected and insulted by a speech again.

America sucks. The only thing that will save us is Obama the Magnificent and his magic wand he named "change".

He was angry; it stopped short of calling for revolution; just change.
He promised more than all the other would-be-presidents ever have - cheap health care, good jobs that cannot be sent abroad, cheap fuel, college for everyone, and anything else you could imagine. And also 95% of the working families wouldn't have to pay any taxes.
Anyone who buys this speech, I have a bridge to sell.
And as I said, he was angry. He is a Sith Lord, turning the Dems to the dark side of the force.

I think he blew the election. He hasn't crashed and burned yet, but he blew out his engines.

This on top of Bill Richardson's comments. All the talk about going after OBsAMA BIn laDEN "wherever he is" ... with the implication that we know he's in a cave in Pakistan. Someone needs to call him on this. They might not be so bold as to nuke our ships in the Persian Gulf, but they might also not be beyond "losing" a nuke to someone who'd do worse. I thought it was a fine speech. Emotionally nuanced. Smoothly delivered. A fine balance of specificity and common theme, delivered to a crowd that clearly loves America and can't abide what's happening to it.

Question: Where has this Democratic Party been for forty years?

IT was a speech of feeling....

You don't feel good about your life or the life of your neighbor. We will make you feel good. We don't have to solve the problem to do that, only free you from the responsibility of having to work things out on your own. Yes, all about how you feel about things...

No reality of how life is. That responsibility begins at home. We don't need emotionally nuanced...that is another way of lying. We need a dose of reality. If you can't afford a home, don't buy one. If you can't afford school, do it a little at a time. Wear last years clothes. Work it out, grow up, and help your neighbor...but don't help yourself to what your neighbor has...you are not entitiled to that.

Well, I only caught the last few seconds of the bloviating -- which is probably good, since those few seconds got me really worked up. All that talk about marching united into our future seemed very creepy to me.

Other than the first say 5 to 7 minutes I missed the whole thing because our car just got broken into.

The Long March!

There goes the Navajo vote!

1016 6pat6  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 8:36:04pm

Good Lord, after listening to B-HO and those that preceded him tonight, at the steps of the Parthenon, I swear, my brain is ready to explode! I could only stomach about five minutes each of Dickhead Durbin and the Goreacle, though. People actually believe what these crooks say! People think this bunch is gong to "save" our great nation! People are actually going to VOTE for these bastards!

I pray with all my being that these people get soundly defeated 67 days from now. If there were EVER a time for decent Americans with a conscience, with a sense of knowing what being an American really means, and with a soul, vote against these "progressive" mouth-breathing maggots! Get out and campaign against them! Let your friends know where you stand!

Up here in Canada we've got that CBC (taxpayer funded) series called "Little Mosque on the Prairie" -- and you can only guess how they're marketing the show...no, they're not using The Monkees...they're Using The Beetles...all the album covers the Beetles used are now superimposed with the Muslim actors...that's the promo for the series...comparing the "Fab 4" with the Muslims in the series...(I'm self-censoring my response to this -- we do not have Free Speech in Canada.)

I have to go to bed, and LGF is moving slower than a stoned turtle for me.

Never mind.

Did anyone else see McCain's congratulations ad? Very classy.

I AGREE!

1022 Occasional Reader  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 8:37:22pm

What the fuck?

FOX NEWS, of all people, just cut off one of their guys reading the McCain campaign rebuttal to go the Greta van Sustren for the "Breaking News"... that "Obama accepts nomination".

Fucking ridiculous. Pardon my French.

Seen the same with "The Beatles"

Unfortunately, however....Obama is the "Monkees".

Ahhhh, the "Prefab Four". :)

1024 Pawn of the Oppressor  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 8:37:25pm

Tried to post earlier and my post got eaten by an outage... Hope I don't repeat too much.

I have to hand it to him: The guy does an awesome job of playing a President on television. Durbin is a good speaker too. It seems Obama is at his most genuine when he's talking about his own family. Beyond that, his understanding of the mechanisms of capitalism are non-existent, and his mental model of foreign policy is as solid as an Obama statue made of warm swiss cheese in an earthquake.

As for content, it was the standard Democrat we're-all-going-to-die-poor-and-miserable-unless-y ou-vote-for-us boilerplate mixed with tidbits ripped off from Reagan and JFK, and sugar-coated with Mocha Messianism. He didn't actually say anything concrete, he just strung together a bunch of platitudes in a preacher's voice and relied on his charisma to carry it.

Did anybody catch all the rhetorical tricks? Things I noticed:

- He's been watching Bill Clinton carefully to prepare. That skeezy Arkansas-esque accent came out whenever he started talking about Free Stuff For Little People.

- Bush. McCain. BushMcCain. McBushMcCainMcBush! McCainBush! BushMcCain! MCCAIN IS BUSH! MCAIN IS BUSH! OBEY! OBEY!

- "I'm not qualified, but I mean well." That's "I feel your pain" re-written for a more gullible audience, bro.

- "It's about you", feel-good appeals to narcissism. You ask, we deliver, we're here for you, we care, we'll give you everything, we give you what you want, we reflect your needs, we're symbols of your every hope and longing, et cetera, et cetera. We care a lot about you people, we care a lot about your guns! We care about your wars, gee that looks like fun! (No wait, he didn't say that...)

- "I have ideas, but when we have debates, we should forget about ideas at all, because this is all new. Old ideas are bad, and bad people have old ideas, but I have new ideas. Just don't ask me what they are because it's time for new ideas." Huh?

- "Children and people who are children at heart" - Obama knows his audience. "Snort".

- AK-47s on the streets... Laugh Out Loud.

- Projection which would make Freud wet himself. "They make the election about small things" "They try to make you scared by associating you with bad things" Um, 1. Big Things are made up of smaller things, and 2. Isn't that exactly what you're doing with the McCain-Bush mantra?

- Oh yeah, and us cynics out here in the audience who don't Believe and Hope for Change? We just don't understand.

I'm afraid I do understand, Barry. I understand all too well.

I was channel-surfing looking for decent HD coverage and when I ended up on CNN the goofy looking guy with white hair was talking to the black lady commentator about how her dad had fought in Korea, and how "veterans of the cultural wars of the 60s" were happy now too. For f-ck's sake... Equating a bunch of narcissistic leftist college kids with Korean war veterans? What boggles my mind about this whole Obama phenomenon is the complete lack of internal consistency. Nothing means anything in a broader context, the whole universe is just made of cute little floating metaphors that can be re-arranged at will to fill an emotional need. God I hate these people.

DON'T THINK, JUST BELIEVE! DON'T QUESTION, JUST HOPE!
