Zombie: I Went to Invesco and All I Got Was This Lousy Report

Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 9:24:24 pm PDT

(Cross-posted at Pajamas Media.)

IMG_6155.JPG

...and boy, do I regret it.

IMG_6001.JPG

He got a lot of fist bumps from the passing crowd — but no tickets. Would you give up your ticket to the Second Coming?

IMG_6117.JPG

I tried to find the beginning of the line — a line which seemed to have no beginning or end. I made the mistake at first of trying to go toward the entrance. Foolish me. Notice how the line seems to emerge from the stadium. I was told this was actually the middle of the line. So I tried my best to work my way backwards.

IMG_6132.JPG

Back, back I went, for a quarter mile, a half a mile...and even after all that it kept winding and looping back upon itself over and over.

IMG_6130.JPG

In each parking area, the line zigzagged in labyrinthine meanders, intended to handle to most amount of people in the space available.

IMG_6129.JPG

It just kept going, and going...

IMG_6088.JPG

...and going and going. The term “Kafka-esque” is overused, but boy, was it ever appropriate here.

IMG_6124.JPG

Finally, I found myself back out on the city streets on the other side of the stadium, where it stretched for block after block...and here, I finally found the end of the line. A policemen keeping watch told me that the expected wait time at that point was over two and a half hours.

IMG_6106.JPG

I heard a slight flurry of activity in the distance and went to investigate. Turns out a rumor was flying that they had opened an additional entrance on a lesser-used side of Invesco Field. People were pointing, but hesitated — should they give up their precious place in line on the basis of a rumor?

IMG_6104.JPG

But when a very official-looking man announced that it was indeed true, everyone within earshot scrambled overland toward the new entrance at top speed, as if someone had reported finding gold nuggets in a nearby river.

IMG_6067.JPG

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you: parking spaces in prime spots near the stadium were going for $80 apiece.

IMG_6066.JPG

It was not a fluke. There were several signs like this, and some for $60 a little further out.

IMG_6102.JPG

Were there protesters? Yes — a tiny few. Some communists tried to convert stalwart Democrats in one portion of the line, with little success.

IMG_6109.JPG

World Can’t Wait joined in, acting like cult members as usual.

As I reported earlier, I saw the members of the crazy Fred “God Hates Fags” Phelps church walking by across the street at one point, but I was unable to follow them at that moment, and when I searched for them frantically later, I could find neither hide nor hair of them. Strange.

IMG_6063.JPG

These two people were the only independent protesters I saw.

IMG_6125.JPG

This security guard gave me a free bottle of water, and then murmured, “Are you for McCain?” I gave a noncommittal “possibly” sort of shrug, but that was enough to inspire him to open his vest.

IMG_6159.JPG

Around the other back side of the stadium, I discovered what I think must have been the “VIP entrance” where all the politicos arrived.

IMG_6165.JPG

As I was leaving to come file this report, my bus passed several heavily guarded convoys like this one headed back up toward that secret entrance: the bus barely visible on the left of the photo appeared to be filled with congressmen or some other high-status guests.

And that’s what the view was like outside Invesco Field on the night of Obama’s acceptance speech.

You did a great job, Zombie! I'm glad you are willing to get out there and get the images the MSM is afraid to get, or refuses to get.

Has anyone calculated the carbon footprint of this pep rally?

28 vbspurs  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:34:30pm

That World Can't Wait guy, who looks suspiciously like Anderson Cooper, is wearing a very pricey watch.

That's a Patek Philippe Jumbo Nautilus, if I'm not mistaken.

They START at USD 30,000.

29 doppelganglander  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:34:44pm

I love the security guard in the McCain shirt, but I'm concerned he might have recognized zombie is not part of the Obama Borg collective. Keep your head down, bro (or sister), we need you.

30 sngnsgt  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:34:57pm

Did you take a good long shower after this Zombie? You may have to get shots in the morning, that is of course, after drinking a few tonight.

Anybody who can make the outside of a stadium that interesting has a real gift.

33 Killian Bundy  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:35:18pm

Fire marshal puts field on lockdown

The fire marshal shut down access to the field at Invesco, shutting out a crowd of about 100 that quickly grew angry.

The marshal decided shortly before 7 p.m. there were too many people on the field. At the north tunnel entrance, security officers blocked people from walking inside. A line of about 12 firefighters and police officers then were called in to get people to move away from the entrance.

Among those in the crowd that couldn't get in were members of Congress, Democratic National Convention Committee staff and delegates — who began holding their green credentials in the air and shouting "Delegates! Delegates!"

As they shouted, police officials yelled, "Get back" and "Back up."

/a perfect metaphor for this vulgar trainwreck of a campaign

34 BingoBunny  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:35:19pm

When the lion lays down with the lamb ..it might signal peace.. or it might just be a nap before lunch.. but when the lamb lays down with the lion..like the democrats want to happen.. it's always lunch.

/mustard anyone?

35 reine.de.tout  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:35:23pm

Well, I liked the pic of the security guard. Best one in the bunch.

36 Fenway_Nation  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:35:25pm

What the hell? Is that the O-signal on the t-shirt? Is comissioner Gordon manning it?

37 6pat6  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:35:37pm

Wonder how trashed Denver is now? The City os going to have to bring in some serious chemicals to de-flea and de-tick the area, plus wash down all of the streets and sidewalks from the piss of the "peaceful protestors".

Hey Denver, was it really worth it?

40 razorbacker  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:36:16pm

I didn't listen to every word, but did these factoids make it into Obama's speech? Or maybe BillyJeff's?

The average poverty rate for all Americans for the first seven years of the Reagan terms was 14.2%. For the first seven years of Bill Clinton’s terms, it was 13.6%. Under George Bush, the average poverty rate for 2001-2007 is 12.4%.

The economy shifted to a higher gear in the spring, growing at its fastest pace in nearly a year as foreign buyers snapped up U.S. exports and tax rebates spurred shoppers at home.

The Commerce Department reported Thursday that gross domestic product, or GDP, increased at a 3.3 percent annual rate in the April-June quarter. The revised reading was much better than the government's initial estimate of a 1.9 percent pace and exceeded economists' expectations for a 2.7 percent growth rate.

US Unemployment rate. Clinton years 5.2052. GWB years 5.197802

David Harsanyi explained today why it's no wonder Dems didn't want former President Bill Clinton to speak on the economy this week. The growth during the Clinton years was due to free market capitalism and not populism, or isolationism.

Gateway Pundit.

No?

Shocka.

They should have used the old line " Do you know who I am?"

That one always works. /

43 Intrepid  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 9:37:02pm

I wonder how the traffic flow is going now in Denver.....

And this was the end of the Democratic National Convention? It kinda fell flat, actually. Nobody got to experience "Gitmo in Denver", did they?

Lame.

Oh, of course not. At least not for the rich.

But there will be a program to help poor people who have to choose between food and parking. And community parking grants. And parking for developing nations. And a national service Parking Corps that will help you locate your car when you get out of the store...

I remember him from ESPN sports and when he did talk Radio with Dan Patrick. He replaced Rob Dibble. Dibble was great and somehow he was replaced with the insufferable one and I stopped listening, but then not long after the Dan Patrick show was history. So there was some justice.

I don't like Hillary but she deserved to at least be seriously considered for the VP. She DESERVED that consideration because she came in second. Didn't say she deserved the job, just consideration for it.

When I first started working I remember training 3 bosses. THREE. When I asked personel why I was never considered I was told, and I quote "We don't think a girl can do the job" end quote. I quit 2 weeks later.

The excited media throngs have already long hailed Illinois Senator Barack Obama for being the first bi-racial candidate ever to secure a major Party's nomination for President.

Moran yesterday added to the historic aura surrounding the Senator's parents.

To quote Mr. Moran, Sen. Obama is "the son of a black man from Kenya, and a white man from Kansas."

To again quote Mr. Moran, this "is a moment for the history books." This certainly is.

The Hillary vote would hate Sarah Palin....I don't think it would be seen as a suck-up to them. I do think it would drive them away, because she is such the anti-HRC.
(Which is a good thing..... but it would jab a straw under the nails of the PUMAs).

I know lots of Democratic women who think otherwise. In fact, my two aunts have already decided they'll move to JSM if he nominates a woman. That's how much they want to see history made.

The plane took off Anchorage on the 27th. It stopped up in Seattle to refuel before continuing on to Flagstaff, Arizona. In Flagstaff, it stayed on the ground overnight before going the next day to Ohio, with a 30 minute stop in Amarillo.

Flagstaff is just up the road from where McCain was at the time.

I might add that the same airplane is on its way to Boeing Field as we speak."

208 leftover54  Thu, Aug 28, 2008 10:21:30pm

Y'all know Cheryl Crow was putting on a free concert at the stadium tonight ? After the Big O finished up one of the show hosts on whatever channel I happened to have on, pointed out there were something like 84,000 people at the stadium tonight ! I thought "hhmmmm, that is an impressive number" and started to compare it with numbers I remember from various rock concerts I had attended as a youngin'. At that point in time I wasn't aware of the concert. Now I'm beginning to wonder if failing to mention and/or report Ms. Crows "show" tonight was
due to:
a. They (MSM) didn't know either
b. They (MSM) did know (more likely) but kept it under their hat.
In either case, I think there is/was an attempt on someones part to keep this quiet so tomorrows headlines will give the impression the Big O had the
"power" to attract a record number of people to this type of event. Isn't it very possible that many showed up for the free show ? That may sound silly
to some of you older, more mature folks but I know
youngins would think along these lines: -
"Hey ! Goin' to hear the Big O speak tonight at the stadium ?"
"Nah, I could care less..."
"Yeah but Cheryl Crow is playing a free concert when hes done talking".
"No sh*t ? Yeah man, sounds good ! Think we can get some booze in ? Lets call John, hes got the van, we can call Mary, Sue, Lisa and..."
Well, you get the picture. I know Cheryl is not a "new" act so maybe the 19 year old part is off but how about the 25 year old lay about dope smokers not looking forward to another night home in mamas basement playing GTAIII for the 1,000th time ?
Sorry, once again, that the above is not better written - I'm "multi tasking" at the moment because I just made a HUGE mess here on my carpet ! Knocked over a bowl of Shredded Wheat ! What a mess !

One could argue that attacks on Palin's inexperience in foreign policy would highlight Barack's inexperience and allow for some effective counterattacking. Zombie - Great job on all fronts! Kudos.

All -

Obama fabricated a number tonight that shows him to be either dishonest or lousy at accounting. Actually, he is probably both.

He claimed:

"But the record's clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush 90% of the time."

Well - there are records. And they are clear. They show that McCain has NOT voted "with Bush 90% of the time."

The Washington Post provides a database of Senate votes. One of the pages they furnish calculates and ranks how often a Senator votes with his party. For a fair comparison, we can look at the 109th and 110th congresses where both McCain and Obama served.

For the 109th:

Obama is tied for 4th place. 94.8% of his votes were straight party votes - same as the senior Illinois Senator Dick Durbin.

McCain is ranked 95th place with a 79.4% voting record with the party.

For the 110th:

Obama ties at 11th with a 96% average.

McCain moves up to 65th with 88.3%.

For the math to work, the only way that McCain could have "voted with Bush 90% of the time" is if Bush only was with the party less than 90% of the time. And if that were the case, it would rank George W. Bush as less partisan than Obama.

Q.E.D. Obama is selling the big lie.

re: #208 leftover54

Is this confirmed?

Every single big televised or photographed speech he has given has either been preceded or followed by a rock concert. It was a cute trick the first time, now it's part of his playbook. And here I thought the crowd was genuine.

I would LOVE to see Obama say that experience now matters. That's really a debate I would like to see. Remember, this is a presidential contest. As SOON as the experience argument is forwarded by Obama or the media, one needs only to point to his 143 days in office before hitting the campaign trail full time. It's easy pickin's.

First off, is that the ONE Bat-style signal on that t-shirt or is Obama just glad to see me? O_o

The McCain security water man has nice legs and a nice smile. Best looking human in a DNC photo yet.

That line of people is just creepy. CREEPY. So ... lifeless. Certainly they'd have to be without thought to stand in a line that long to watch something they could see on a TV in their hotel room while eating room service veggie burgers. So vacant, though. It'd be sad if they weren't so terrifying and dead-eyed.

But we need to think about this in ways more meaningful than simply campaign rhetoric. If McCain dies, is 44-year Palin -- who's been governor of Alaska for a year and a half -- the person to stare down Ahmadinejad?

Seeing Pawlenty's name kicked around, I went over to Youtube and watched a few clips of him. He comes across as a touch flat sometimes, but he's calm, sensible, and straightforward. I think he'd make a good, mature complement to McPain. He'd make an aggressive jerk like Biden stand out in a bad way.

Palin would be an interesting choice but she comes across like a fussy mom. People are used to seeing tough, battleaxe women in this campaign, and next to McCain and Biden she might appear weak and maybe even a little bit whiny. She is also naturally Alaska- and energy-focused. Giuliani was easy to paint as a one-issue guy and it would be too easy to just label her as an oil company shill.

I think for presentability, at the moment I'd take Pawlenty over Romney. Pawlenty doesn't have any baggage from the primaries.

You and others here might really appreciate this comment from a liberal commentor on one of the most "reasoned" blogs out there....

The 'ethics' issues are blown out of proportion. It was one firing of a cabinet position that serves at her discretion. The trooper who she supposedly really wanted fired still works for the department and is a creep of the first order. Just do some reading. Word on the street is that she will be cleared very soon and her approval numbers are still in the mid 80's.

Other than that, which is rumored to be her political enemies taking a shot, she is known as a reformer. She has fought coruption in he rown party already to much fanfare, beating a corupt gov for the position after he failed to listen to her calls about coruption when she was head of another government agency. BTW: when he didn't listen to her she resigned.

Look her up and it will put the fear of the GOP into you. Her personal story is compelling, she is very popular with the conservative wing of the party, is backed by Gingrich and Limbaugh, is already slated to speak at the convention and has indeed submitted vetting papers. (not to mention McCain's vetting team was seen twice in Juneau) We hear a lot about her here in British Columbia.

She would help McCain with women (she is a member of feminists for life) and on energy. I like her a lot despite disagreeing with her on much. She is fiesty and doesn't take crap from anyone. If he chooses her we are in trouble. "

What do you think?

I'm for Pawlenty. Palin's too inexperienced and may well be a turnoff to the Hillaryite women, as one or more of our female lizards have explained. Romney would personally be my choice, but he'll slammed over his wealth, slickness, Mormonism, as well as his earlier feuding with McCain. Pawlenty is the safe and not too bad choice. Given the lackluster Biden pick Mccain doesn't need to take a big risk to counteract it.

Sarah Palin is infinitely more qualified for the #2 spot than B.O. is for #1.

Sarah Palin could have survived, whereas Chris McCandless didn't.

Awful statement that, but true.

re: #395 Pawn of the Oppressor

Good lord, scroll down and check the photos here. She looks real weak and whiny? Pfffft.

Are you sure you're not a troll?

I loved Obama's speech. He laid out problems we face and had a ready response to them...oh sorry got confused, that was Vince from ShamWow I was watching.

Heh. He managed to sell Dorky-Head-Thingy II (3G!) to the Fox news crew.

/mebbe it sells itself?

You know that it's made in Germany don't you, they make good stuff there.

Depends on if he added an onion with it. Everyone knows that a squash must have an onion in order to make it taste right!

Excellent culinary tip.
Not a bad political one, too. :D

If she were 75 years old and had served in the Senate playing partisan politics for 30 years and serving on committees, would that make her qualified?

NO! And there is the rub!

re: #374 Pianobuff

Another post from Palin for VP

"Just got off the phone with my brother who works for a private jet charter based in Cincinnati...

He says in his entire career there, he has NEVER heard of anyone flying out of Anchorage late on a Thursday... much less flying from Anchorage to Ohio. He also said that Middletown would be the prime choice to make a landing if you didnt want any publicity, and that G4 has the range to EASILY make a non-stop flight.

PalinAir anyone? Given that I live in northern Cincinnati, I might make the drive right now and go find out! Middletown is only a half hour from me!"

The one thing that caught my attention was the layover in Flagstaff. Alaska to Seattle, then Flagstaff with a layover than on to Middelton Oh, with a 30 minute stop in Amarillo... That layover in Flagstaff is interesting.

re: #404 Pianobuff

I think if she is the one that McCain picks then I will go along with it without saying one word against her, even though she would not be my first pick, because I believe in McCain, believe he wants to be POTUS, and most of all I believe that he wants what is best for this country, so I think he will make the right choice.

About the seventh picture down… in the infield parking lot… close to the Coca Cola truck… they are having a Bar-B-Q.

If you look closely they rotating Hillary over the coals.

They just stuck a fork in her.

It looks like she is done.

re: #298 Abu Maven

But we need to think about this in ways more meaningful than simply campaign rhetoric. If McCain dies, is 44-year Palin -- who's been governor of Alaska for a year and a half -- the person to stare down Ahmadinejad?

Hell, she'd probably have his head mounted over her fireplace.

re: #407 neocon hippie

I'm for Pawlenty. Palin's too inexperienced and may well be a turnoff to the Hillaryite women, as one or more of our female lizards have explained. Romney would personally be my choice, but he'll slammed over his wealth, slickness, Mormonism, as well as his earlier feuding with McCain. Pawlenty is the safe and not too bad choice. Given the lackluster Biden pick Mccain doesn't need to take a big risk to counteract it.

I like your analysis: let me add one point to it. I do not want McCain to pick the Republican "heir apparent" for the next election - whether he wins or loses this election. I am completely comfortable with a VP candidate who is "acceptable". I don't need to be impressed.
