Biden on Palin: 'She's Good Looking'

Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 9:12:31 am PDT

Just a little offhanded sexism from the Democratic candidate for vice president.

“There’s a gigantic difference between John McCain and Barack Obama and between me and I suspect my vice presidential opponent,” Biden said.

“She’s good-looking,” he quipped.

Don't forget clean and eloquent!

2 Ojoe  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:13:56am

As well.

3 Macker  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:02am

Is this guy schizo or what!

4 calcajun  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:14am

And her hair is her own.

5 wrenchwench  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:19am

It's a set. It goes with the off-hand racism he showed when he called Obama "clean and articulate."

6 Fenway_Nation  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:21am

Is she clean, too?

7 Shanimal1918  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:36am

She is good looking, AND more importantly, smarter than both Biden and nObama!

8 lawhawk  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:39am

Thanks for stating the obvious. Let me know when Biden's found a clue on foreign policy.

9 rawmuse  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:14:52am

Unlike you, captain hair-plugs.

10 MandyManners  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:15:39am
"Thirty-six years in the United States Senate," she says, "And all he's got to show for it is a beautiful head of hairplugs."

Oh, that's good.

11 jordank  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:15:44am

So calling a girl "good looking" is now considered sexist?

12 eaglewingz08  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:15:45am

guess she's not clean and articulate cause she hunts moose and caribou in Alaska. That would dirty up Biden's suits real quick.

13 markx  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:16:36am

Can't argue with that, Hairplug, plus she is smarter, too.

14 jcm  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:16:50am

Can't wait till the debate. Palin's gonna' have another trophy to put over her fireplace.

15 FrogMarch  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:17:13am

the predicable democrat meme:

"She's pretty - but she doesn't have a brain. Typical woman."

16 calcajun  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:17:22am

re: #6 Fenway_Nation

Is she clean, too?

I'm sure she bathes. As for her ethics, she fought corruption and resigned a position in protest. Biden....?

Also, her husband is a member of the steel-workers union. Biden has shaken the hands of steel workers. Which one knows what goes on better with working families.

17 BrianA  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:17:32am

Yes, but does she speak with a slight Indian accent?

20 The Other Les  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:18:30am

Joe Biden is an ass.

21 Fenway_Nation  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:19:02am

Actually, both the Obama and Palin families consist of nice-looking people. But I think I'd rather have the Palin family over for a BBQ than the Obamas. I think Michelle would make one gaffe to many- probably make a bunch of backhanded compliments- and BHO strikes me as the kind of guest who'd give his host all kinds of dubious, unsolicited advice for financial or legal matters.

22 BrianA  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:19:04am

Breaking: Palin's unmarried daughter is pregnant. No I'm not a KOS troll, FOX reported it.

23 uncle_monkey  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:19:05am

More news to follow.

What?

29 red collar  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:20:10am

You'll have to call me sexist too, cause she is good looking.

Maybe the fact that she's a mother of five, kicked ass in the PTA and then kick more ass as Governor of Alaska -fighting fraud and corruption- makes here look even better in my eyes.

If she had any more executive experience, SHE would have had to pick a VP.

Go McCain! Good choice you made for your running mate.

How does this affect things, other than the "She should have been at home with the kids" attack. That logical contradiction will make some feminists' heads explode.

Now, how that plays among the evangelicals is another matter.

Turn on Fox - they just read it in a breaking news report.

37 Dave the.....  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:21:00am

Heard a BHO quote from this morning.....he was soooo tap dancing around critizing Palin. He belittle her for opposing "equal pay for equal work" legistlation.

For those not familiar with it, that is where:
A) the Fed'l gov't decides what private businesses should pay people for specific jobs. This is the kind of legislation FDR signed in the 1930s that prolonged the depression for an extra 7 years. Then

B) Judges set wages when people sue.

44 Dave the.....  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:22:39am

Well, most frown on kiddie sex. But at the same time, if the young Palin doesn't dispose of her child at Planned Parenthood, that may score some points.

FOX just announced that Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant now and will be marring the father.

Just so long as Kos doesn't say that her dad is the father. Outside of "Chinatown" that story is not at all entertaining.

53 pre-Boomer Marine brat  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:24:47am
We wonder how this goes down with those millions of female Hillary Clinton supporters whom both sides covet.

To me, that's the money-sentence here.

Biden's comment ("quip"? - okay, let's assume so, I didn't hear his tone of voice when he made it) might be sexist, or NOT. The point is that the PUMAs are hyper-sensitive right about now, and they'll be likely to take it as sexist. This is another grain of sand on the negative side of Obama/Biden's scale.

Very good point - it worked out well for Barry. Also, it is a family matter. It has nothing to do with this election. Just as Chelsea was off limits, just as Jenna and Barbara were off limits (after the MSM had a can of whup ass dumped on it) so should this be off limits.

82 Flavia  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 9:48:40am

This wasn't sexism, it was just a really lame attempt at humor. For example: if Bobe Dole had shown half the humor on the trail that he did after, he might even have gotten elected.

85 yesandno  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 10:06:39am

86 crimsonfisted  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 10:07:02am

OT but they said that Bristol Palin is marrying the father. She is not flushing the baby down the toilet, and has the support of her family. And Sarah is looking forward to being a grandmother, something Barack could not bring himself to do for his own kids it seems.

87 JamesWI  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 10:18:10am

So it's sexist now to make a joke saying that she is good-looking, with the implication being, based on the previous sentence, that he is not? Come on, there are other things to be getting upset about without feigning outrage at nothing.

Wellllllllllll........she is good-looking.
And I'm sure in the upcoming weeks we'll see a makeover of sorts.....she'll let her hair down.......and will probably begin wearing contacts, (or more stylish eyeglasses).
IMHO, I don't see Biden's comment as sexist, unless that was the only positive comment he'd made towards her.

Face it. McCain picked an all-around winner.
She's a 'broad'.
Meaning, she's feminine, yet can hang-out with the guys.
Definitely not the stereotypical 'helpless female'....she can hold her own.
She's intelligent, articulate, experienced..........and hot.

Palin on Biden, "Who's that old guy?"

107 docremulac  Mon, Sep 1, 2008 1:51:45pm

Biden's a walking gaff machine. I saw the 60 minutes piece on him and Obama and couldn't believe how stupid this guy was. The first words out of his mouth were stunning in their cluelessness.

Obamma was asked about Palin and gave her a little back handed compliment, something about her being a mother of 5 which he respected (with the read between the lines message that she should know her place, being at home barefoot and pregnant not running for office.) Then he said Biden was a more effective VP since he was from a working class area and had always fought for his constituents. Then Biden says something like "The American people are smarter than that. They see deeper than me being from a working class area or Palin hunting moose. They want to talk about the things that really matter."

So the first thing he said without even realizing it was: "What Obamma just said was stupid and shallow."

He was so bad I couldn't watch the rest of the interview. What an arrogant clueless moron. I picture him wearing an afro wig and platform shoes at an NAACP conference to try to "fit in".

I'm not PC, and I'm not hypersensitive.

If a man describes a social acquaintance as pretty, that's unremarkable.

But when a male job candidate describes his female rival as "good-looking," it's generally an attempt to portray her as getting by on a pretty face.

And for those of you who think it's nothing but a lame joke, you need to be reminded that humor can be a very powerful tool to cut people down.

Charles -
Either you need to take a chill pill or take a vacation from Republican talking point.
Seriously - gimme a break I read the quote... he made a minor joke which isn't offensive at all and is in fact true - and if someone takes offense at that... than you know why we end up with plastic politicians with no personality that are afraid to say anything that is not from a talking point cue card....
I don't find his comment offensive in the least and in fact it's the truth... though Biden's wife's not bad for a middle aged chick..
Respectfully -
Mike

come on Charles, that's low and idiotic for you ... It's obvious he meant it as a joke ... that there's no difference between Biden and Palin, except that she's better looking than him.

Christ, you guys all squeal like koslings some times.

A little off-handed sexism from the Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate is atrocious, but the little off-the-cuff remark about Creationism from the Republican Vice Presidential Candidate is something that you would want to explain away?

re: #74 FrogMarch

Here you go.

and here:

referring to his daughters: "If they make a mistake I don't want them punished for the baby."

Well, I think that having unprotected sex at 16 is often a mistake, but why would anyone agree with me? Because it leads to--babies. Unwanted ones. Raising a child should be a serious and life-long commitment-but the consequence of sex should not always be an unwanted pregnancy that must be brought to term against the wishes of the mother, should it? So why can't some people see the point of what Obama said, which I shall correct from FrogMarch's quote:

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.”

"'Abstinance only' sex education is like 'just hold it' potty training."
