Orders from On High: Ixnay on the Earsmays

Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 11:34:31 am PDT

If you’re wondering why the administrators at Daily Kos are suddenly hitting the delete button for (some) posts that try to spread ugly rumors about Sarah Palin’s family, here’s your answer:

The McCain campaign was outraged by the blog rumors. “There’s no doubt that liberal blogs such as one called www.barackoblogger.com and some in the mainstream media were pushing a false story about Gov. Palin’s most recent pregnancy with fervor,” said senior McCain adviser Nicolle Wallace.

A senior McCain official said its camp had no evidence that the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama was pushing the story, but said the blog rumors circulating on websites that appeared to support Obama had the effect of being “a real anchor around the Democratic ticket.”

Speaking to reporters in Monroe, Michigan, Obama said he was offended by the McCain aide’s statement and that he considered people’s families off-limits.“We don’t go after people’s families. We don’t get them involved in the politics. It’s not appropriate and it’s not relevant. Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be. And if I ever thought there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they’d be fired,” Obama said.

Obama also said: “This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor or potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories.”

Kudos to Obama for saying the right things, at least. But the Democratic Party in general has been tacitly, sneakily encouraging this kind of behavior for years; it isn’t surprising to see the Nutroots finally rearing up and biting the DNC on its posterior.

"...if I ever thought there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they'd be fired," Obama said."

Having hundreds of unpaid hatchetmen posting ugly rumors on their Obama blogs means never having to say you're sorry.

If the liberals keep talking about Palin, "The One" may turn them to pillars of salt.

4 quickjustice  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 11:39:49am

So this means there'll be no story about Palin and her daughter in tomorrow's N.Y. Times, right? ;-)

5 doppelganglander  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 11:40:20am

It doesn't matter whether the Obama campaign was behind the smears or not; they will be perceived as responsible for the actions of their supporters.

re: #2 jaunte

Absolutely right, jaunte.

It's another classic example of Democrat proxy warfare. Obama gets to keep his hands clean because the dirty work is supposedly being done without his approval. Arafish turned that particular tactic into a high art form.

I said it earlier, not only did Daily Kos (not a fringe of the DNC, but welcomed with open arms at the convention, and YearlyKos is visited by all the top Dems) start the flipping rumor, but I read this morning another website giving Kos the credit for debunking the Sarah-not-the-mom rumors.

10 jaunte  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 11:42:56am

Remember all that false bravado and talk of Change. When real change comes calling in the form of a female candidate on the other side, the reaction is abject fear and nastiness.

They're just following the Democrat playbook written by Alinsky.

"One of the criteria for picking the target is the target's vulnerability ... the other important point in the choosing of a target is that it must be a personification, not something general and abstract."

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it."

What could be more vulnerable that a 17 year old un-wed mother to be.

21 Typicalwhitey  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 11:45:18am

I bet they're interested. I bet people who don't follow politics very closely got a huge dose of it yesterday when they were trying to follow Gustav. I further bet that they've talked about it with their family, firiends and co-workers, some of whom probably have more of an interest in politics.

Markos rationalizes the story here. A Blogger, a Baby, a Cry of Concern

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 1 -- When Markos Moulitsas saw that one of the contributors to his liberal blog was accusing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin of lying about her 4-month-old baby, he was a bit skeptical.

"I feel a little weird about the questions being asked," he says. "But I also feel a little weird about saying, 'Shut up, people.' It takes a lot for me to step in and squash what's on Daily Kos."...

"Our people are doing the vetting. Even if some of it is hitting dead ends, other ones are striking direct hits," Moulitsas says. His role, he adds, "is to sit back and let the citizen journalists do their job, and I amplify the stuff that shakes out."

Throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. He said it himself.

Although I think Obama did the right thing in saying what he did concerning family members, I note that he was careful to include not just children but wives as well. I think he was trying to cover for the next time his wife opens her mouth. If any further stupid comments from her are then challenged, he can say, "hey look, like I always have said, family members shouldn't be attacked."

37 Russkilitlover  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 11:48:22am

Obama can say whatever he wants. His minions are out there throwing shit at the walls for a couple of days and then disappear. It's partisan warfare. He can stand in front of microphones all day and say blather like "....if I ever find anyone in my campaign." But I would be more impressed if he came out and refuted some of this garbage. His stance at this moment is not noble, decent, high-minded, or classy. It's just pablum.

The more the lunatics smear, the more the conservatives rally.

A conservative couple that I just talked to are developing a very protective attitude about Sarah Palin. Their resentment of the left-wing has sharpened dramatically since Palin was introduced as the running mate. They can't stand the crap-ola the media and left-wing have been shoveling out about her.

They recognize her as someone who could just as easily be their neighbor across the street as Governor of Alaska.

If this couple is anything like other conservatives out there, the base is getting fired up like you would not even believe. Very much ready to go to battle over this thing.

80 zombie  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 11:56:34am

I've been scanning the Web for the last 12 hours: The left is going ballistic with glee over this pregnant daughter thing.

At first I couldn't even grasp what they could possibly gain from the news, but after looking around, I find that their (borderline incomprehensible) position is this:

a. Sex is good; everyone should have sex!
b. We can't stop teenagers from having sex; they all do it, all the time, so we should give them instruction manuals and hand out condoms.
c. Anybody who suggests not handing out instruction manuals and condom is a frigid, anti-sex Puritan.
d. Republicans are therefore all frigid, anti-sex Puritans.
e. Sarah Palin is a frigid, anti-sex Puritan too, even though she is far away the sexiest candidate in American history and obviously must have a lot of sex personally (all those babies), merely because she doesn't encourage teen sexuality as government policy.
f. Here is our climactic conclusion! : Even though we think sex is good, and even though we think teen sex is unstoppable and good, and even though current statistics show somewhere around 60% of all 17-year-olds have had sex, and even though Sarah Palin never condemned any teen anywhere for ever having sex, and even though her daughter is staying true to her moral principles by keeping the baby and getting married;...because we now have evidence that Palin's daughter is no longer a virgin, we can hop around and say, "Ooooooh! You had sex! Bad girl! You embarrassed your mama! Oooooh! Neeener neener neener!"

Seriously, that seems to sum up their position exactly.

The blogs may back off but that still won't stop the Media from carrying the "O"'s water. Yesterday, a station was "interviewing" people about Paling's daughter's pregnancy. Naturally, the mother of two baby children stated being interviewed stated that she wondered if Palin was qualified to be VP if she couldn't "control" her own children. I think that lady will be in for a big surprise when her kids acquire minds of their own and decide to do things their way. Unless she means "control" as in child abuse, kids will make mistakes and pick wrong choices, It's how you pick them up, dust them off. hug them and ask them what they have learned that determines what kind of a parent one is. It's called FREE WILL.

Absolutely right, jaunte.

It's another classic example of Democrat proxy warfare. Obama gets to keep his hands clean because the dirty work is supposedly being done without his approval. Arafish turned that particular tactic into a high art form.

Its the old "good cop/ bad cop" routine. . .that's hardly new.

The problem is for attacks to work, they have to have some substance. Transparent lies only serve to discredit the ones spreading them.

Forget about calling off the blogs, Obama won't get my respect until he calls off the dogs in the media. This is as blatant and disgusting as their rooting for "grim milestones" in the war on terror. I only hope that since this strikes a much more personal nerve (who, I say WHO can cast stones here?) that the voting public will be sickened by the display of bias and hatred.

Very telling that one of the main reasons a woman would consider choosing to abort her baby would be to protect herself from the fiendish attitudes on display here by the so-called progressives. How much easier to just cover up the entire episode by ending the life.

Sarah Palin is a threat because she is a real woman living a real life -- and she is effective and optimistic and loves her country.

Sarah Palin is a threat because she is a real woman living a real life -- and she is effective and optimistic and loves her country.

I pray she isn't shaken by this - STAY STRONG FOR US SARAH!

No worries on that front....

McCain aides whose judgment I trust are impressed by Sarah Palin. One was particularly amused by this exchange: A nervous young McCain staffer took it upon himself to explain to Palin the facts of life in a national campaign, the intense scrutiny she'd be under from the media, the viciousness of the assault that she'd be facing, etc.:

Palin: "Thanks for the warning. By the way, do you know what they say the difference is between a hockey mom and a Pit Bull?"

McCain aide: "No, Governor."

Palin: "A hockey mom wears lipstick."

Behind that pretty face is a pitbull!

I'm not sure whether the McCain camp was unaware of this pregnancy and its consequences.

McCain camp was aware of the pregnancy. It came up during the vetting process. They did not expect the smear attack to be so vehement but what does one pounce on when the "experience" question backfires on the number one person of your ticket.

I do not think they expected the utter support they received. THere were assholes calling for Palins doctor records and birth records. It was rather pathetic. Palin could have provided those but the campaign probably figured it would kill two birds with one stone and take away the nutjobs artillary when the pregnancy came to light. If her daughter is anything like my daughter, she's a tough little bird.

Sure helps when you want to destroy things and terrorize people to know where the cops are at and on their way to.

Names, residence, birthdays. (and more than a few Jane Does) A veritable treasure trove to help compile a list of idiotic violent moonbats. I hope they each get some jail time to screw up the Fall Semester.

I believe I read that Palin specifically told them. They considered it the non-issue it is.

Well, the irony is that the pregnancy of her daughter should be a private thing, but nevertheless accomplished 2 important things:

- it united the Republican basis to a large degree,
- it exposed that some Democrats behave in a hypocritic way that they themselves feel has to be exposed in Republicans.

My bet is that McCain/Palin will win this thing, not because of the pregancy issue, but because Obama has lost it. People are tired of his CHANGE mantra, and can anybody imagine Obama keeping Vald Putin in check?

What I heard is that KOS is Obama's blog enabler. The Obama blogging efforts are an outgrowth of KOS. KOS and the Obama camp are in the blog bed together. Both indirectly support the Palin smears. Their loose organization and acceptance of fringe elements into their blog living room enables them to smear people and keep their hands clean.

Why would this action of Obama be any different from Rezko or Ayers actions? Obama gets to be the good guys with hands cleans while his behind the scenes enablers do all the dirty work. KOS just becomes another incarnation of Rezko and Ayers.

This is a way for Obama to smear the opposition and be innocent of all accusations.

Right. One of the grotesque epitomes of the left, tumid (and increasingly amorphous) Michael Moore, said:

This does not mean that a discussion about the stupidity of "abstinence-only" sex ed classes is off the table; nor should we not talk about the right of a teenager to terminate a pregnancy (a right that has been essentially eliminated as the Supreme Court believes forcing a child to have a child against its will is not a form of child abuse), or Gov. Palin's desire to make abortion illegal for anyone who is raped or a victim of incest. She's "proud" of her daughter's "decision to have her baby." Uh-huh. Ok...

OT, but very troubling:

Italy to pay 5 BILLION to LIBYA for reparations! 30 years of colonialism gets a 5 billion dollar shakedown. No mention whether or not Libya plans on asking Turkey for any reparations, seeing how the Ottoman Empire colonized Libya for over 500 years prior to their loss to Italy in the Italo-Turkish War.

WTF? I mean seriously! Can the Lockerbie families get an injunction here and take that money?

She won't be dropping shoes, she'll skewer Biden with a peep-toed Louboutin.

Well, I'm sure she is capable of whacking Joe B, but I'm not sure how much fight Dan Quayle had because the media completely controlled that narrative. They have seized this and unless they let go of it and suddently get some journalistic standards, then the narrative is this and this only.

For those of us who have been following this for years and warning how disgusting the left wing of the Democratic party has become this comes as no surprise. Maybe now the MSM will pay attention. Yeah, I know I'm dreaming.

The MSM is part of it.

To spot a smear you have to know it is untrue. Partisans can spot smears because they know details the folks in the middle do not.

But these smears are over the top. You do not need to understand the details - like Palin's trooper story or Obama's Annenberg story - to spot this stuff as a smear.

By the time the baby is born all of this stuff will be long forgotten. The girl has already been damaged by it and more of the same is not going to hurt her more. I say let them keep it up, their true colors are coming through.

Think of the backdrop for this week's convention.

On the one hand, a curious viewer will see a group of vile, sexist guttersnipes who gossip about whether Sarah Palin's daughter was the real mother of Trig Palin. The fact that these creatures can talk so non-chalantly about some teen;s sex life is creepy; on the other hand, the viewer will see an energetic, eloquent, reform minded mother of 5. Who do you think the average independent will be attracted to?

I can just see the few level-headed Democratic strategist's heads exploding.

327 soloseminarian  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 12:38:45pm

I think this whole fiasco is a reflection of the honest frontier mindset of Alaska vs. the phony "scandal of the moment" mindset of Washington. Life's tough in Alaska. People live honestly and work hard. I don't think that the sincerity and authenticity of the people who live there is going to be able to puncture the jaded defenses of a news media that just doesn't understand that there really are genuine people in politics who aren't "perfect". It's a family matter. I see no reason why anyone needs to take a position on the personal lives of two teenagers who are old enough to make their own decisions.

A 17 year old in Alaska is probably twice as mature as a 30 year old in Washington. And probably also has a job...

Lizards have already heard my view of O'Reilly as pompous mediocrity too many times, and now he's another dull-witted pundit focusing voters on the issue of Palin's experience, rather than her accomplishments.

It's difficult or impossible to throw out an incompetent once he gets into office, or the results of his term/s are not fully apparent until the bumbler moves on (see State Senator Obama; Altgeld Gardens Housing projects). The bottom line is that the skills needed to be a successful candidate are far different from the skills that candidate will need once he gets into office. Accomplishments matter, and in that department, Palin is the shining example of what Obama pretends to be.

The stupidity of the left is such that they will feel vindicated in spreading the "Bristol had Trig" story now that Bristol is prenant.
It is entire false, and not just because the latter disproves the former.
There is no cover-up or attempt to cover-up Bristol's pregnancy by governor Palin. It should not be news, of course, and it is a despicable shame that the girl and her family aren't allowed to keep this between the families, but remember the old story implied that the Governor lied about being pregnant and delivering a child.

In the last day or so, it's been quite disgusting to see liberals online going after Governor Sarah Palin on the basis that she should be a stay-at-home Mom because of her special needs baby and her daughter who will soon be married and a new Mom.

Liberals are basically saying that Governor Sarah Palin is horribly wrong to work outside the home. They're saying that she is "abandoning" her baby and the rest of her family for the sake of her career.

So much for their concerns about women's advancement, eh?

I saw a quote earlier today and I can't find it again to give the proper credit for it. I would appreciate it if anyone recognizes it:

'The feminists have been lying to us all these years. They don't want women to progress. They want liberal women to progress.'

The Democrats are still frightened by Governor Sarah Palin. Even after all the sliming that went on yesterday, the Obamessiah himself desperately tried to compete with her last night by claiming that he has more executive experience than she does because he has managed his presidential campaign. He used her experience as Mayor to compare with this.

Not only is the Obamessiah comparing himself to the Vice Presidential candidate, but he used her earlier job (not her current job as the Governor of Alaska with a $10 billion budget and 24,000 employees) as the basis for his comparison. This needs to get into an ad somewhere!

The only way, now, to give equitable treatment to both sides is to fully research Joe Biden's daughter. We already know about her arrest, but what about her sex life? When did she become sexually active? What sort of birth control does she use? Has she ever had an abortion? Now, I don't care about any of these things, but that is the natural conclusion of the media attention to this issue. Does Andrea Mitchell really want to ask the young Ms. Biden these questions?

Thinking about Obama's resume for a moment. It doesn't take long. He did nothing meaningful that he can point to as a State Senator, voting "Present" over 100 times. How does this compare with other members of that body over the same period of time? Back in 1982 Illinois achieved a minor miracle by firing a third of the leaches in the lower house of their state legislature. There was a move at the time to simply abolish the whole State Senate and emulate Nebraska's unicarmal system. Given that there is no possibility of using State Senates to emulate the regional political compromises embodied in the Federal bicameral system, one man one vote prevents that, why do we bother keeping and paying for these second chambers?

Certainly, they have outlined their attack strategy. But this issue of the trooper was well known prior to McCain's pick of Palin. I Googled her several months ago when her name started floating around and read about the situation. She's got some enemies. Anybody who bucks the system as she has done will make enemies and those people will say whatever it takes to score some damage points.

My point is that the issues that the MSM are trying to make of this, that Palin was not properly vetted (BS I say) and that her baggage is too much for the McCain campaign to ignore so Palin should drop out is just wishful thinking on their part. They hope if they say it enough times that people will come to believe it as the truth.

Someone posted yesterday that we must not get wobbly legs when confronted with controversy regarding Palin. I agree wholeheartedly. I am defending her until I have had a chance to hear her speak. I won't pretend that I am pulling for her but I will reserve my final judgement of her and her capability as a candidate until then.

The internet gave them the shit. The MSM is throwing it against the wall...over and over and over and over.

Don't assume someone has to be driving this in the sense someone in a smokey room is making phone calls or sending faxes. This is not an organized effort, it is a riot.

Unless the mob is already predisposed to a riot, a leader cannot push them into action. And in many cases the mob does not need a leader to get them going before they starts burning cars.

The individuals in the MSM or the liberal blogsphere are doing this because they are part of the angry mob. They are so fired up with hatred for the Right they do not realize what they are doing looks pretty bad form the outside. They are looking to the other people in the mob and seeing validation for their acts.

It probably won't be after the election until they realize their actions actually burned their own neighborhood to the ground.

I predict that she will get such an incredible outpouring of support tomorrow night, she will make Obama look like a kid sitting home playing video games on prom night.

And people will be watching.

Remember in 1984 Reagan took all of the electorial votes from every state except MN. He also took IL in '80 and '84. Illinois! - home of you know who.

He was an inspiring conservative.
Palin is an inspiring conservative. She will radiate that to the hearts of many tomorrow night. We may see another landslide my friends.

Getting tired of hearing about her lack of experience. Can somebody (excluding trolls, barking moonbats, or members of the legacy media) tell me how come this wasn't an issue for Carter, Reagan, Clinton and Bush 2 when they successfully ran for the top spot? At least the Republicans in that group represented large states.

Not really fair comparisons.

Apart from his other private sector accomplishments (which weren't inconsiderable) Reagan was a two term governor of the US's biggest population state. That's a tremendous amount of executive experience.

Bush 2 was also elected twice to Governor of TX, the second largest state in the union, I believe making him the only individual to actually be elected governor there twice consecutively!

Clinton was a two+-term governor of Arkansas, and in fairness, was a successful attourney general beforehand. I believe Clinton aged 32, was actually the youngest elected State Governor in US history.

Carter. . .well. . .he was a one term governor of GA. That still probably makes him more qualified than Obama, though maybe not so much more so than Palin.

The elite middle class--a large portion of it, at least--really does not understand or believe that everyone in the country doesn't want to be part of them. They are aware that there are people who are mechanics, and construction workers, and farmers, and lots of other things, and that many make very comfortable livings, but they really cannot imagine that anyone does not secretly harbor the overwhelming yearning to go to A Good College (not just any college, but A Good One), go on to an advanced degree, and get a nice clean professional job. They are truly mystified that someone could make another choice volitionally--and, since they can't believe it (at least not without questioning their values) they have to believe that the girl is either lying or being manipulated, or both.

It's been my experience that real dirty hands leave provide a more serene and restful sleep than "professional" clean hands. And I have two advanced degrees from "good schools."

The natural extension of this scandal is to do a full investigation of Joe Biden's Daughter. When did she become sexually active? What kind of birth control does she practice? Has she ever had an abortion? Then, just for good measure, we need to ask Michelle what she is teaching he daughters about sex. Their oldest will be maturing soon. Does anyone think this is important? Hell no! But this is the path that the media is taking.

I am not saying it is correct--though the self-control and deferred gratification are necessary for attaining the elite middle class life, it is not the only life out there. And it is not held by all members of the elite middle class to the same degree of lockdown. I am merely observing that this mindset exists, and that the Palins challenge it--and that this implicit challenge is the source of the venom that we are seeing.

Oh yes, I got that. It was a good observation about that demographic. My point was that every job has it's dung to shovel, with the professional side having it's own, passive aggressive, manipulative, backstabbing brand.

Ahem! koskiddies!
... the couple married on February 2, 1961 in Maui, Hawaii.[6][1]

On August 4, 1961, at age 18, she gave birth to her first child whom she named Barack Hussein Obama II.

Feburary - 1
March - 2
April - 3
May - 4
June - 5
July - 6
August, uhh, can't count August.

6 months! Shared values?

Interesting!

And here's something even more interesting:

Ann Dunham was born on November 29, 1942. Her first child Barack was born on August 4, 1961. Calculate 9 months backward from August 4, 1961 and you get November 4, 1960 for the date of Obama's conception.

Hence, she was still 17 years old and unmarried when she had sex with Barack Sr. and conceived little Obama.

Sound familiar?

If it was really only about choice, that should upset them at least equally as abortion bans.

re: #471 Son of the Black Dog

Not true. Dan Quayle actually grew up in a very modest home. IIRC, his father was editor of a small town paper. Not exactly Kennedy/Gore/Kerry class wealth.

Here is what Wiki said:

His maternal grandfather, Eugene C. Pulliam, was a wealthy and influential publishing magnate who founded Central Newspapers, Inc., owner of over a dozen major newspapers such as the Arizona Republic and The Indianapolis Star. James C. Quayle moved his family to Arizona in 1955 to run a branch of the family's publishing empire. While the Quayle family was very wealthy, Dan Quayle was less so; his total net worth by the time of his election in 1988 was less than a million dollars

Not part of the Kennedy/Gore/Kerry class, but probably in better shape than most 41 year old men when he ran back in 1988

Obambi has two reasons to slam Kos. One is _he_ can't stand another round of inquiry into his family, the second is that I'm sure that his internal polling is showing this situation to be energizing the Republican base and video exists of him attending the Annual Kosorgy. AN energized Republican base will have his campaign pining for the Fjords.

Okay _htree_ reasons.....

Quilly! Haven't seen you around over at The Bar for a good long while, how are the family?

I think you've got the Obama side of this right - he *can't* let this go on, even by proxy, as the far-right will dig up the same crap about him.

From the Kos side, can he let go of Obama? He's done a *lot* of work promoting this candidate, can he let it all go and stop "trying to help" until December?

As popularity and relevance are pretty much the measures Markos has set for himself, and as squelching this kind of crap may be "the mature thing to do", it's certainly (short-term, at least) *not* going to be popular. Think he can man up and do it?

Bristol's boyfriend is doing the honorable thing.

She--and her mother--are being implicitly and explicitly vilified because she and her boyfriend are doing the honorable thing.

Telling, is it not?

Well Obama apparently thinks being burdened with a child out of wedlock is
punishment....so I can only surmise that after that remark, he considered himself a punishment to her? or maybe wished HE was aborted?...good grief what a fool

I think this article by John Hawkins at Right Wing News.com is a very good one. It may rehash a lot of the same things everyone is saying but it sums it all up very well.

The Top 7 Reasons Why Palin Was A Brilliant Choice For VP

by John Hawkins, Right Wing News.com

Initially, Palin wasn't my first pick for VP, but I thought she was still a good pick. Now, after watching the Left and mainstream media go insane over her, things may change if she screws up later on, but right now, she seems like the best pick McCain could have made.

Why?

1) She energizes the Right. Palin has done something that no one else has been able to do: for the first time this year, she has managed to energize the Right. How long it will last is unknown, but it's certainly been a nice change from the moping that has occurred since McCain won the nomination.

2) She draws attacks away from McCain. In the end, most of the public will make their decision based on who's going to be President, not the VP. So, the more time the Left and the MSM spend attacking Palin, the less time they have to attack McCain. On the other hand, the Right will be attacking Obama, not Biden.

3) Palin has particular appeal on the Pro-life issue: Palin isn't just pro-life; she talks the talk and walks the walk. She didn't consider aborting her child with Down Syndrome and when her 17 year old daughter became pregnant with a child and decided to keep it, she supported her, which stands in stark opposition to Obama who famously said, "I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."

There's a hell of a moral contrast there and it's not one that looks good for Obama.

4) The "scandals" that have been revealed so far have been Mickey-Mouse stuff. Her husband had a drunk driving conviction 20 years ago. So? She wanted a violent thug who mistreated her sister and was a threat to her safety fired -- who wouldn't? How do those scandals compare to say, procuring land for your house in a crooked deal or spending 20 years in a racist, anti-American church? They're pretty small potatoes.

5) The #1 charge the Left has launched at Palin, that she's inexperienced, better applies to their own candidate for President. Palin is more qualified to be the President than Barack Obama, so you just have to smile every time some liberal says, "She'll be a heartbeat away from the presidency." I mean, can't the exact same thing be said about Obama? I mean, what if something happened to Biden and we had Obama in charge and...oh wait, the "heartbeat away" candidate is on top of the Democratic ticket.

6) She will draw Hillary voters: No, most of the ultra-left-wing NOW types probably aren't going to vote for her, but there are plenty of women in the middle who will -- and the more the Left launches misogynistic attacks at her and goes after her family, the more women will probably vote for a McCain/Palin ticket.

7) She evens the score on change: Obama's most appealing factor isn't his policies or his resume; it's the fact that he would be the first black President. Well, now, the McCain campaign has a "first" on their ticket, too. So, it's no longer a question of whether history will be made; it's just a question of which history-making ticket will make it to the White House.

Man, I got to tell you Buzz, your posts on this have really resonated with me, more green hearts along with the many, many I've saved from you. I'm one of those guys you describe I think. My parents struggled just to pay the mortgage when I was a youth, college was only a dream, so I ended up working in the woods, logging.

Then I got my draft notice, ended up wearing the green in Southeast Asia, '67-'68, took a U. of Md. course on Japanese language through the military and did well on it. After returning from overseas I admit to being pretty bitter, there was no way in the world I could have kept my cool being in college the way things were at that time (my brother was badly wounded at my old unit just after I left 'Nam). G.I. Bill was about less than $200/month at that time IIRC so financially and disposition wise college was pretty much out, and I liked working in the woods anyway with salt of the earth types. I really have the radar on because of condescension I've occasionally picked up from those who graduated from college, many of my peers. As if going to war instead and being blue-collar is somehow inferior. Maybe I'm too sensitive on such things, but you're dead right, it is there. I don't think I'd change a thing now, and as Mandy would say, those so-called elites can go piss up a rope.

Whoever has in possession or uses a radio or device capable of receiving or transmitting a police radio signal, message, or transmission of information used for law enforcement purposes, while in the commission of a felony or violation of section 609.487 or the attempt to commit a felony or violation of section 609.487, is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than three years or to payment of a fine of not more than $5,000, or both.

What I want to know is, if Obama and McCain both agree that families are off limits and they want to enforce that, will they join together and work to repeal the law allowing 527s to exist? I'm not so worried about bloggers like Kos. LGF and like sites help keep some balance. I believe that 527s are the greater threat. It will be a Soros funded 527 that will attack Sarahs family in the coming weeks. (Or days.) There is no such balance for Soros funded 527s.
