Preparedness is always a good thing, etc. But no, I don't think there will be "mayhem". Some localized incidents? Perhaps. But that's about it.

I'm still a little shocked. We're proud of Palin. But wow, I work in state goverment, and none of us had a clue that this was going to happen. We all thought there'd have been some sort of buzz going on around state government last week, but not a word.

Robert M. “Mike” Duncan, Chairman of the Republican National Committee

He's a real person?

I thought he was just a generic name they append to the spam "please donate" emails the Republicans send out, like John Q. Public or Betty Crocker.

I somehow ended up on both the Democratic and Republican email lists. The Democratic ones come directly "from" Obama himself, in a faux folksy "me to you" style. The Republicans ones come from soemthing named "Robert M. “Mike” Duncan."

In reality, they're probably both the products of the same computer program.

There weren't riots in the streets after Gore lost.
If Obama loses, he'll have no choice but to ask his supporters to stand down in his concession speech.

As far as mayhem goes, we've had eight years of steadily building Bush Derangement Syndrome and other manifestations of lefty craziness. Plus the left has such a high level of emotional investment riding on Obama. The explosive level of Palin Derangement Syndrome could be a portend of some real ugliness to come.

Look, there are probably going to be some riots either way - either because Obama loses or when the Feds start confiscating stuff to pay for smoke & mirrors.

I would tend to think that net disorder and violence would be higher under an Obama administration in general.

If Obama's supporters riot after an Obama loss, that pretty much seals the book on any future run for POTUS by him, and I think he's bright enough to figure that out.

I'd like to add also, that this is probably Obama's best shot at being elected. His biggest advantage is that he's the proverbial "dark horse" (that's not a reference to skin color, by the way).

He's been on the national stage so little time, and voted
"present" so many times, that he doesn't have much of a record. Four years from now, he will have one, all the luster will have worn off, and unless he actually manages to accomplish something as US Senator in that time (fat chance), he'll be passed over by the Dems eager for the next best thing.

Not going to happen; he's not that stupid.

Even if Obama were to explicitly ask his supporters to go nuts (which again, he wouldn't), he'd still get away with it, because the media is totally in the tank for him *AND* the McCain or Bush administration couldn't prosecute him, as it would be largely viewed as political retribution, not justice.

Even if that were true, the chance of an entrepid reporter digging it up would be approximately zero.

Abortion is procedure heavily protected by medical confidentiality laws. No reporter could prove it, even if they knew it to be true, and the claim itself is potentially actionable.

Zombie does the math:

Ann Dunham was born on November 29, 1942. Her first child Barack was born on August 4, 1961. Calculate 9 months backward from August 4, 1961 and you get November 4, 1960 for the date of Obama's conception.

Hence, she was still 17 years old and unmarried when she had sex with Barack Sr. and conceived little Obama.

Sound familiar?

On the other hand, if she fired Commissioner Monegan because he wouldn't fire Trooper Wooten, then to me that is not right. That is a family issue and should not be brought into state government. IMO.

My suggestion to them would be to start a food war, as food is a lot easier to have fed to you than your ass.

Any attempt at a "race war" will not only completely obliterate any (IMO completely undeserved) reputation Obama might have as a racial healer, and nix any chance he might have of running for POTUS again, it would make it that much harder for ANY Black American to run for POTUS in the future.

No, I suppose I wouldn't put it past a small proportion of Obama supporters to get violent should he lose, particularly if its really close (eg like Bush-Gore in '92).

But even then I can't believe it would be more than the tiniest minority who would participate, a far cry from a "race war".

Further, should he lose, Obama could (ideally) head off any response like this simply with the appropriate concession speech, or at worst explicitly ask his supporters to "cool it" after the fact.

I would tend to think that net disorder and violence would be higher under an Obama administration in general.

If Obama's supporters riot after an Obama loss, that pretty much seals the book on any future run for POTUS by him, and I think he's bright enough to figure that out.

The problem is, people have been lied to about whether the U.S. elections are "fair", and whether the results are "accurate".

Gore was, face it, a white man who presented the personality of a dining room table. My waste paper basket has more personality than he showed!

Why riot over *that* ?

Obama, though, is a different story.

I would expect some isolated incidents if he lost the *nomination*. I believe this, in part, was on the Superdelegates' minds in Denver.

I would expect many "isolated incidents" and possibly one or two major mob actions / riots if he loses the election.

I would expect far, far worse if he dies.

Somewhere on these threads exists a link to the actual copies of the police reports from when the whole affair started.
Both the statements taken from Sarah Palin, and the notes of the original officer involved.

There are also records of the memos Palin issued when she became Governor. I read the text of those, as well.

The only reason, IMHO, that the issue is still on the table is because the complaint was issued by her political opponent (good old boy).

Sarah Palin has "welcomed" the investigation. If the documents were published in the MSM, I think any doubt about whether Sarah Palin is "tough enough" and whether she would "excercise good judgement" if the "unthinkable" happened would disappear in a heartbeat.

Note that the MSM has not scraped this too deeply, on the pretext of "not wanting to interfere with an investigation". What they don't want are the facts to become widely known.

Obviously Against. This is the first time in my memory that I credentialed, "mainstream journalists", went off thier rockers en masse. Even the normally civil Fox News Alan Colmes helped spread the Koz Krud.

I mean, I read the Koz Diary Friday PM and laughed my butt off it was so lame. I had no clue the Atlantic, NYTs, Fox News, and CNN would actually give it print or airtime.

I find it curiously ironic how every attack on Palin is actually a worse one against Obama (eg experience, pregnancy, etc).

Tonight, I want to hear the beginning of a sweeping Repub response to their neophyte POTUS candidate crawled out of the sewer of the corrupt Chicago machine, and their 'change' VP candidate, stale and worn from steeping in congress over the past several decades. All mainstream America wants to hear is drill here, drill now. And an appeal to the working class condemning the catastrophic liberal Dem economic policies like higher taxes for the job-creators and investors, home loan programs for the financially insecure. I want to hear that we will develop a new reliance on American oil/energy, and I want to see a celebration that Repubs and Bush did not cave to the Dems' boneheaded demand that we cut-and-lose in Iraq.

Is there any footage of that d!ckwad or his merry band of brothers around?

I had to explain to my son-in-law-to-be recently how he got into power ... basically said that (a) he was a part of an extremely dangerous group that we now consider "terrorists", back then the term was "radicals", (b) the government screwed up when they caught him, all evidence was barred, the case was dismissed, and (c) he went on to become a perfesser in higher education. Universities seem to love stuff like that on resumes.

I told one of my daughters (different one) when she needed to go near the DNC convention to be extremely cautious if the "New Black Panthers" were anywhere around. And I think those guys are a weak imitation of the original cast.

One only needs to look at Meghan McCain's photo blog on the previous thread to understand the venom being thrown at Sarah Palin and her family by these vile creatures on the left. One photo in particular caught my eye - Todd, Piper, Willow and a woman bottle feeding Trig - happy, smiling and enjoying one another over some pizza. This would appear to be a happy, well-adjusted American family - in spite of all their 'problems'. This is something the left cannot relate to and something they have worked to destroy for more than a generation.

The left, whether the angry feminists, KosKreeps, so-called media elites, career politicians and people who save their own feces/urine in Ziplock bags to hurl at police, hate themselves - they are jealous. They look at photos like this and compare it to their own empty lives and they are jealous. Somehow, the light bulb goes off that adhering to the liberal/progressive dogma for all their lives has left them with nothing to show for it, but anger and bitterness. It does not compute. Therefore, they need to take this family down.

It is sick and disgusting. They should just kill themselves and get it over with.

The PUMA's big complaint is that Hillary was treated differently and unfairly because she is a woman. Those folks are looking at the pregnacy controversy and seeing a very similar thing going on. If McCain/Palin continue to act with dignity, it will sway support away from Obama.

When is the Grand Dragon of the Klan speaking?

Klansmen who really know their own history would not touch the GOP with a ten foot noose. The original Klan was founded as a "plausibly deniable" Democratic Party militia just after the Civil War.
Through many incarnations and changes (the incorporation of antisemitism in the twentieth century, for example), various Klan groups retained one common thread: they were 100% Democrat until well into the 1960s.

Their primary role, the subversion of the voting process, has since been taken over by such gangs as ACORN.
This merely reflects the demographic shift in the culture of gangsterism, from rural white to urban multiracial and its move up the social ladder to corporate boardrooms and the academic world.

There is something to be said for the colonial concept of earning the right to vote based on the history of one's labor, stake and investment in the country's well being - avoids a situation like Detroit, where the workers toil to produce income for voters electing pols who steadfastly promise to raise their benefit checks.

I would challenge that point of view on two fronts.

First, I think the focus on the daughter is disgusting and the backlash is going to be so severe that the MSM will change their tune.

Second - regarding a possible recount - with the pick of Palin, IMO, McCain is swinging for the fence. The selection is either going to be a huge success or a big mistake. As a result, the 2008 election - unlike 2004 and 2000 - will be decided by more than a few electoral votes. Either BHO will win all of the blue states plus Florida, Ohio and Nevada or McCain will win all the red states plus Minnesota, Michigan and PA. There will be no recount. Whoever wins will do so decisively.

There is something to be said for the colonial concept of earning the right to vote based on the history of one's labor, stake and investment in the country's well being - avoids a situation like Detroit, where the workers toil to produce income for voters electing pols who steadfastly promise to raise their benefit checks.

At the the time of the founding the franchise was limited to "all tax paying free men." Since the bottom 50% effectively pay no taxes........

Since this is fantasy politics, I'll add that I'd be concerned if such rights were based solely on $$$ resources, or elite education and intelligence. I'd rather see other investments of work and service added as considerations for the franchise.

Let me see if I understand the left's strategy. The attacks on HRC had nothing to do with sexism, but the attacks on Sarah Palin are the same when they include Sarah's pregnancy with Trig, and her daughter's pregnancy with her soon to be born child. Uh, okay! Logic defies those committed to being stupid!

re: #253 DeafDog

If McCain/Palin continue to act with dignity, it will sway support away from Obama.

When they see support fading from their candidate, Obama, due the backlash, the MSM will change tacts quickly.

I'm not that optimistic about media. I think they will go even lower to prop Obama.

Most of the media "reporters" are just regular windbags. Proping an empty pot like Obama makes them feel needed and thus important. So they are happy to lend their collective mouth to talk about his/her "strength" and "achivements" displaying huge creativety in twisting their collective knickers. When a person of substance comes along that does not need them, they can't feel as important and find cool aid in going against, displaying creative nastiness. This happens each time regardless of political views; they went with Obama against Clinton for the same reasons.

280 williwonka  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 3:06:57pm

All at the convention should remember and tell others that the question that Obama could not answer was not what the media now reports it to be.

Warren had asked: "Now, let’s deal with abortion. 40 million abortions since Roe v. Wade. you know, as a pastor I have to deal with this all of the time. All of the pain and all of the conflicts. I know this is a very complex issue. 40 million abortions. At what point does a baby get human rights in your view?"

"At what poin does a baby get human rights in your view?"

Not when life begings but when does a baby get human rights.

So if a fetus survives an abortion does it as a living baby outside its' mothers womb have human rights or not?

Should a baby get huma rights one month before being born?

The question was not when Obama thinks life began but when Obama thinks a baby should have human rights.

Brokaw, has never been challenged for restating the question as something that was not asked and that many find acceptable in not answering. Did Brokaw and the rest of the media do this purposely? Or was it just carlessness?

re: #266 runrabbitrun

I sympathize.

But the Detroit situation is not the fault of the electoral system. It's the fault of a breakdown in family integrity; the social, educational, economic, and political collapse that follows from that breakdown; and the right of other people to move away where conditions are better for them and their children.

These breakdowns aren't inevitable. They are chosen. Then they're reinforced by social convention, carpetbaggers, and predatory politicians, usually in that order. When the problem snowballs, you have what is called a sh*thole.

To solve it, you have to dismantle all the reinforcements, all the way back to the things that reinforce the breakdown of family integrity. And there, my friend, you will run into a huge wall, because a lot (and I mean a lot) of money depends on maintaining the separation between sexual freedom and sexual consequences.

So here is a probably very unwelcome conjecture, and it is only a conjecture:

Part of the reason Obama is afraid of unplanned pregnancies for his daughters is that he's afraid the fathers won't marry and support them.

Part of the reason Palin is not afraid of her daughter's pregnancy is that she is confident that young hockey playing father will.

What likely makes her confident?

That wonderful social reinforcement called "Todd's Can of Whoopass."

We'll see. I am not a moral high flyer, but using a 17 year-old girl as a campaign football is disgusting to me (as it is to every LGF'er). Remember the backlash when Edwards brough up Chaney's daughter in the 2004 campaign? That was bad and this is worse. Decency will prevail.

re: #281 godfrey

The (not so)Great Society of LBJ did much to dismantle the black family. During the 50's black families were a cohesive unit with a father, mother, children, and perhaps some extended family members. They had as low, if not lower level of out of wedlock pregnancies than did white families. That all changed during the 60's, 70's and 80's. Now black women have an out of wedlock pregnancy rate of nearly 70%, black men are incarcerated at a much higher rate than are any other ethnic group, black children often get written off as drop-outs waiting to happen.

The breakdown of the black family structure causes ripples throughout our society and those ripples aren't good for anyone, especially blacks. Black 'leaders' don't help. Education is a 'white thing'. Pretty much anything whites would do to fix this situation would result in cries of racism. The people being most affected would have to bring about the change on their own.

The rioters are coordinating through Tin Can Collective where they report in crowd and police movements so the rest can try to stay a step ahead. After the dozens of rioters arrested and charged with felonies including rioting and using police radios to commit crimes, you'd think the St. Paul police would like to have a chat with the people behind this effort.

Another good place to watch the moonbat anarchists coordinate is here at the Twin Cities Indymedia livewire site.

Tin Can Comms is back up @rnc08 only. "March for People's Lives" heading for Xcel Center from Mears Park massing now, heavy police guard, economy still ruined. Report of abt 500 people and equally as many cops (riot / swat / bike). Snipers on top of MnDOT HQ @ Capitol Complex for Ripple Effect concert. Scattered reports of red laser dots around cities, @ parks - watch out!

Just one subtle but vital distinction, only because I agree with all of your points and would second them! I did not mean to claim that the electoral system was the original CAUSE of the woes of Detroit, just that changing the voting system would be a remedy to avoid its continuance.

I would in addition add (with emphasis) the reason why the socialist left pols DESIRE the choice of family breakdown: so the government can take over the responsibility of parenting children in families, and indoctrinate American kids from the earliest pre-school programs.

First 3 and middle two indicate where you are from and roughly how old you might be. They issued service numbers like that "way back when" ... you could look at the number and mentally extract the state and county where the individual came from.

What I found interesting was the PDF, which listed a lot of her positions and who she supported.
Most of that, in fact, supports someone who nearly doubled the size of the metropolis from 5000 to 9000. The decisions made were designed to "grow" the town, and apparently worked.

So let me get this straight.

Obama Sr, a 25 year old married graduate student got a 17 year old freshman pregnant. Then, he commited bigamy by marrying her, only to abandon her and his son shortly thereafter?

Not only that, but in some states her being under 17 and his being 25 constitutes statutory rape. It would in my state where the younger is under 18 and the older is more than four years older.
