I have to say the Pallin affair to me appears to be very damaging. The major issue I have with her is that she is an ardent creationist, not to mention all of the other controversies.

I think McCain really shot himself in the foot and has opened himself up to questions regarding his judgment. I talk to alot of undecided PA voters and most of them now are either leaning towards Obama or sitting on their hands.

I would never vote for Obama, but it is looking more and more to me like I will go hunting election day deep in the PA woods.

Help. They need a wahmbulance in St. Paul.

Police holding property of arrested till September 8th.

Police have been giving out forms to those arrested that state they will NOT be able to get their property back from the impound until Monday, September 8th. For those from out of town this means either you'll have to leave before the date and your property will remain in the hands of the police or you can stay in Saint Paul till Monday. Many of these people have jobs and other commitments in their lives which they must get back to before then. They shouldnt have to choose between their jobs and their property. Legal help on this issue would be much appreciated.

Anarchists seeking legal help. Ha.

36 J.S.  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 4:22:42pm

CNN has as its "political panel" to cover the Convention, to offer "commentary"? -- all of them are Obama supporters...every one of them...from David Gergen (dem), Gloria Borger, Carvile, that lawyer what's his name, etc., etc. Oh, there's one Republican -- yeah, like that's "balanced." What a farce. (Imagine if, for the Dem Convention, there had been 6 Republican attack dogs making comments...as i laugh..)

Even more surprising is the media black-out on reporting any negative information or corrupt behavior regarding any democrat.
According to our media, any and all notification of democrat corruption is now categorized as "swift boating". So then -- Democrats are all above the law, they are above shame, and they have a free pass to lie, commit fraud, and bullshit the entire nation. Isn't that great?

57 Bushwack1  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 4:27:11pm

I think McCain did something he had to do. He HAD to pick a conservative. Although Sarah has a few issues, she is not laden with Rev Wright type baggage. She is more experienced than Obama in the EXECUTIVE part of Gubmint.
The reason the libs are going through her personal life, her families issues are simple, they can't match her in her experience and her resume is much more sound than either of the "Change" candidates.

I think if Palin would have had an abortion, or her daughter had one THEN the left would have a right to be all over it, NOW it looks like sour grapes and America will see the desperation of the left. Obama is in the lead for now, according to the polls, but I never was polled? how could that be? LMAO.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to write this, but I had to vent. I am a republican living in a swing state, and I know lots of the same.

Well, then sit home, pout, whine, and stamp your feet and wake up on November 5th to President Obama.

RJC Applauds McCain Pick of Palin as VP

Friday, August 29, 2008
Washington, D.C. (August 29, 2008) -- Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks issued the following statement today:
"By choosing Governor Sarah Palin as the vice-presidential candidate, John McCain once again demonstrates good judgment and a commitment to challenging politics-as-usual. As governor of Alaska, Palin has enjoyed a strong working relationship with Alaska's Jewish community. She has demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns of the community and has been accessible and responsive.

Palin has a proven track record of experienced and principled leadership. Palin has been a leader on the critical issue of energy independence and lessening our need to buy oil from nations not sharing America and Israel's foreign policy interests.

Palin is anything but the typical Washington pick. A former commercial fisherman and mother of five children, Palin is an exciting and vibrant leader. She will bring a unique perspective to the presidential campaign. Her frontier spirit and triumph over adversity will benefit John McCain and the entire Republican ticket. Together, they are a dynamic team. They will show the American people that on the critical issues facing this country the Republicans have the right solutions. John McCain and Sarah Palin are ready to face the tough challenges ahead."

re: #108 buzzsawmonkey

You did not answer the question. How do you believe the Vice President's alleged belief in "creationism" can affect her performance of her duties? How do you believe it can affect the country?

I would note that I don't accept "creationism" either--if you're talking about Young Earth Creationism. If, however, you are merely referring to a belief that G-d created the universe, and are considering voting against Palin on that score, you might as well hang up your franchise permanently, since it's going to be a long time before a solid atheist runs openly for President or VP.

Uh, guys. I think Charles already posted something last weekend that Palin's "creationist" views were more a sop to party politics and less her own agenda. She might like both ID and EV to be taught in schools, but she's not pushing an agenda. I thinks this issue is a non-starter.

119 NoSubmission  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 4:38:44pm

It is good to remember some things about polls:

1. The ballot is secret and a poll is not. A poll has at least 2 people, usually on the phone, and the poller might not even know that someone else is in the room listening to the pollee. It can be very skewed.

2. Polls come to you and favor lazy people somewhat and for voting you have to go to the voting booth.

3. Ballots are more simple than a poll questioner. They are flat and they don't talk.

I t think polls are inherently unreliable because of these things.

ABC News: L.A. Man in Van with Weapons Tasered near UCLA

"A man was being held without bail Tuesday awaiting a court appearance after police said they found five loaded semiautomatic pistols and thousands of rounds of ammunition in his possession. Gene Bush, 52, was arrested late Friday by campus police a block away from the University of California at Los Angeles, where officers said he had fired three shots at a stoplight. Police searched him, his van and a storage unit, finding weapons, ammunition and what police called an anti-government..."

Gene 'Dutch' Bush, a sign-painter with unemployment-related psychological problems, is a warning bell to Americans to stop neglecting our social services. This guy was in a lot of pain. Where is our system to intervene before cops had to taser and imprison him before he hurt somebody else? Psychological-illness requires professional help, or we all suffer as a society - and perhaps individually. We may not get another warning before it affects us personally.

Anyone who comes here and announces that he/she is not going to vote because McCain just isn't the right guy is probably lying.

Here's what's most likely being said to you:

McCain is a loser, and I've decided to sit this one out. (Except I'm really a democrat who is going to vote for Obama, and I'm just trying to submarine support for McCain by getting people to think their votes won't count, so what's the use. The best way for me to do that is by claiming to be a disaffected Republican who feels the presidential race is over, and Obama's already won.)

Otherwise known as.... ....... a Moby!

And I doubt any folks who were leaning towards Obama are now voting for McCain because of her, especially in battleground states.

The LGF community does not accurately represent the potential crossover voter that is going to decide this election. I hope I m wrong but this is a potential fatal blow to McCain unless Palin withdraws her name..that is the best chance to salvage his campaign.

It is against America, bad for America and his election will end with disaster for the people of the United States.

I am afraid that his defeat will be bad for the USA also if only because the derangement will be over the top. I hope the election is not close, with questionable ballots and chads etc. I will have to accept a Dem win, but I seriously doubt whether they can accept a McCain Victory.

She does not want to teach creationism in the schools. Her position is that if the subject if brought up by the students discussion should not be off limits, but that there is no need to formally add discussion of the topic to the curriculum.

That, BTW, is the way the creation v. evolution matter was handled at the high school level when I was in school and that is still the way that I teach.

Well said.

I didn't know McCain had an adopted daughter. Those are two stand-up people running on the Republican ticket, imperfect they might be in some ways politically.

Some leftists are actually against whites adopting children from non-white cultures. Really mind-boggling to me, though.

Quite a story to it... Cindy McCain was in Bangledesh doing charity work. She was getting ready to come back and called her husband about a little girl & her sister who needed medical care they couldn't get in Bangledesh. The catch was, they needed it fast & the only way to get them to the US fast was to adopt them. So the McCain's adopted one & some close friends adopted the other child. Today the girls are healthy, strong, happy and well loved kids.

Irony alert: When Obama gave his fatuous speech in Berlin he asked rhetorically if we are ready "to lift the young child in Bangledesh out of poverty".

The McCains don't talk about it, they do it.

I understand what Obama wants. I see no problem with saying that I was appalled that Palin revealed her daughter's pregnancy in order to divert attention from the birth of the youngest Palin. This is a mother using her daughter. She "threw her daughter under the bus" as the Republicans say. This she can be criticized for and there are a bunch of similar ones! Palin's #1 job was to shore up McCain's conservative base. She does that. She also balances his age. The icing on the cake is she takes some significant percentage of the PUMA vote.

McCain has Obama well inside his OODA loop.

Palin makes them crazy, talk about your OODA loop!

363 karmic_inquisitor  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 5:14:32pm

Looks like someone at my.barackobama.com is listening to the cluephone ...

It is obvious that the snobbery and elists in the media who care not about America but about their own personal rise to stardom are the culprits behind the beginning to the end of our campaign for Obama.

Please listen carefully - as a woman I respect and actually was pleased that the Rebublicans choose a woman as VP. What a tribute to our country and to America. I believe all women truly are pleased with this - and as a mother this gives hope to my daughter! However, we move beyond this as we carefully analyze the issues and my support remains for Obama. He is a good man with good character just as McCain and Palin. What I am beginning to see at the grassroots however are that many men and women are disgusted at the treatment Palin is receiving.

Obama I pedict willl loose the election - BECAUSE AT THE DISGUST AT THE WAY THE MEDIA IS TRYING TO DESTROYING A YOUNG girl who is a daughter.

The OBama campaign had a lsit of 6 possible candidates for the GOP VP nod. Palin was not one of them. She was totally off their radar.

Meanwhile, conservative blogs like LGF & many ohters were all buzzing about Sarah Palin. She was the first choice of some, 2nd or 3rd of others. But definately in consideration.

This illustrates the wide disconnect between the Dem's talking ponts & reality. Sarah just doesn't fit in their world view.

Once you've gotten in touch with your inner pirate, the job is not over. Remember to consult the Affirmations for your Inner Pirate:

Stuart Smalley's Daily Affirmations for the Inner Pirate

Monday:
"I'm going to rape and pillage today just for the heck of it because, gosh darn it, I deserve to have a good time."

Tuesday:
"I am not a fraud, a thief yes, but not a fraud."

Wednesday:
"I deserve all the loot and booty I can carry without feeling ashamed or being grandiose."

Thursday:
"I will express my feelings today. I will not hide them behind my eyepatch. My eyepatch is not a mask for my feelings, but rather a small swatch of leather that covers a hideous scar."

Friday:
"When I overtake that merchants vessel, I will not be playing those parent tapes in my head: "You wield a cutlass like a girl" . . . "Why can't you be more like Blackbeard's son?" . . . "Philosophy? What kind of major is that? It's useless!"

Saturday:
"Just because I indulge in wine and wenches does not mean I'm an alcoholic sex-addict like my father."

Sunday:
"If I must violently put down a mutiny today, it is not because I am a bad person or that I am not worthy of love; it is because my crew are a bunch of yellow-bellied, lily-livered sons-of-whores--and I am mean enough, ruthless enough, and dog gone it, people fear me."

That's not what I've read here.

Please see:

[Link: sensuouscurmudgeon.wordpress.com...]

Key graph:

We gave up the foolish task of second-guessing creationists, and then we decided — based on reports of her own statements — that Sarah would permit classroom debate about creationism if the topic arises, but she doesn’t favor inclusion of creationism in the curriculum. For us, that solved a lot of problems.

Article includes supporting evidence.

re: #409 Jimmah

Well, for all that's been said against onepissedoffyids comments, the fact remains that it's Obama that's got the bounce, according to polls...

While I certainly wouldn't advocate sitting the election out, the logic of choosing a social conservative and a creationist at a time when the party needs to be picking up waverers and dissilusioned dems does seem odd to me as well. Time - in this case about 2 months, will tell, I suppose.

McCain now has the conservative wing of the Republican party solidly behind him. They are not going anywhere now. They're not voting for a third party candidate.

And I believe as people learn more about Sarah Palin and hear her speak, they will realize how ridiculous the scaremongering by the Left is. She's a creationist! She's a gun-lover! She doesn't believe in man-made global warming! She wants to destroy ANWR and kill all the polar bears! It's so absurd. I'm an atheist and accept evolution, and I have no concerns whatsoever about Palin. She is going to have far more important things to do than try to force creationism into schools. She strikes me as a Reagan Republican, one who regards religion as a private matter and recognizes that he/she is elected to serve ALL the people of this diverse nation.

I know a lot of Democrats around here who aren't happy with Obama, but will never vote for McCain so they're staying home. I had an uncle who was bigoted against Catholics in 1960, but he liked Republicans even less so he stayed home and didn't vote for JFK. I doubt the election will hinge on your vote however and if you want to stay home, fine. That's my advice if you think creationism is all that important to you.

Surely, in reality, you realise that the stakes are a lot higher than four undecided democrats?

It's been pointed out to me earlier in this thread that with Palin as VP candidate, the conservative base is now secure, yet Obama leads in the polls. There may be a time to say "Wavering dems? Fuck 'em - we don't need 'em", but it doesn't seem to be now.

But as I've said before, Obama's post convention lead is historically low. I didn't say we didn't need wavering Dems, but they are so picky about voting for a Republican they will look for dirty laundry of any kind. Been amongst 'em all of my adult life (blue county in a red state). Creationism or the lack of belief thereof wouldn't be a reason to not vote for Palin. It will have more to do with they just don't like Republicans period, but don't like Obama either.

The Dems only believe in those freedoms they agree with, like free speech for me but not for thee. The Second Amendment is irrelevant however, even if the Heller decision says otherwise.

re: #485 HDrepub

I've read that the Jewish voters believe the Democrats will better protect their religious freedom. I don't grasp it but that's what I've read.

I think it goes back to the turn of the last century. Jews could not get jobs when they came here from Europe for a better life...thus they worked in factories and joined unions. But that was so long ago. The Democrats were far friendlier then. And old habits die hard. I was a Dem. when I first voted for JFK...and so was my husband. We left in disgust about 2-3 months into the Jew-hater, Carter's admin. and never looked back. We were indies until President Bush ran for office the first time, and registered as Republicans in order to vote in the Primary. NY does not allow indies to vote in a primary..

Now? The demographics (no pun intended) of the of the Demonrats have changed so much, and those Jews who are still in that party had better wake up and realize that the Republican party is our friend, not the Demonrats..the tide has turned permanently.

I do think it is pathological for anyone, especially someone who pretends to love Israel, to do (or not do) anything which has the effect of increasing Obama's chances. Surely you can understand that, and so probably can your single-issue Dem friends unless they are prepared to support someone who will likely stand by and watch Israel vaporized by a nuclear Iran.
How dare you even consider staying home?

re: #493 HDrepub

I grew up in Boston...born in 1938, and the anti-Semitism was rampant..we could not live in certain neighborhoods, as they were restricted. The Ivy League had unwritten quotas, and certain companies would not hire Jews. Some of my classmates (1955) were not admitted even though academically they were the top of our graduating class.

And nearly all the Jews were Dems. When I was cleaning out my parents' zt"l home (they were able to buy it in 1951, as the suburb was open at that point, as was the Greater Boston area...mail came, and they were registered Republicans, in 1973, and probably long before! They never criticized me for being a Dem., as they must have hoped I would grow up!

I did...a few years after they died 15 days apart.

The one good thing, if there can be one, with the restricted neighborhoods was that my Mum's family all were in walking distance. After we moved, alas, we were not near each other. My Dad's family were all on the North Shore, so we went every Sunday, after I was done with Hebrew School. A very different world!
