Should be interesting.

So I'm watching O'Reilly and he's criticizing the MSM covering the Bristol story so rudely as he spends the whole first part of the show covering the Bristol story and playing all the foul things from other networks. I'm thinking there are some good ole boys who may be a little bent with McCain picking Palin. Hopefully someone will get them on board.

5 WrathofG-d  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 5:19:49pm

Bush? Harumph. That can't help!

A little bent is I think close to the understatement of the year.

This is a convention, not a rock concert. The MSM was never going to cover this like they covered the donks. Middle America doesn't need pomp and circumstance, they need real leadership. Middle America is watching and even though the MSM wont cover this like they should, America will get the message and come November, the MSM will once again be flummoxed by a third presidential loss.

Good point but I think more and more Americans are getting their news elsewhere (LGF for example). Most of us who have cable TV only turn on the news to laugh at people like Olberman. The MSM is getting so far left that much of America is seeing right through their smokescreen.

I'm not happy at all about Michael Savage trashing Palin on his show.

He's constantly railing against establishment politics on his show, and against business as usual. Yet he advocates McCain dropping Palin and replacing her with a business-as-usual politician because that is supposed to win it for McCain.

I probably need to get off the dime & get XM in my car so that I can get more listening choices than Savage. I'm amazed that he lacks the wit and good sense to see Palin's authenticity and character, or to fully understand how Palin has actually given McCain a fighting chance in this election with ordinary Americans.

Yes its a bit much when you actually realize what Zach is saying, but you cannot deny their power (ok maybe YOU can if you liked Audioslave, but I digress). I really would LOVE a conservative equivalent of R.A.T.M.

I guess Rage For Some Money, decided to get back together now that Zach's solo career flopped and Audioslave s... well I don't want to offend.

this is what Obama said

"I've got two daughters. Nine-years-old and six-years-old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of sixteen" — Barack Obama, comments at a Pennsylvania town hall meeting on March 29th.

So what does this mean? Was he, the anointed one, punishment to his young mother? Or is he saying that he should have been aborted?

Middle America is watching and even though the MSM wont cover this like they should, America will get the message and come November, the MSM will once again be flummoxed by a third presidential loss.

Sorry to have to admit it, but so far the RNC hootenbanny is pretty underwhelming. I mean, some nice sentiments expressed, and all (which I don't disagree with), and a tasteful backdrop (as opposed to the garish Obamacropolis) -- but I mean, how about a little fire in the belly to blow the wind up some skirts (so to speak)? Or is that scheduled for later?

My man Fred! is coming up later tonight. He's going to finish up by wading into the anarchists and single-handedly incapacitating all of them. They should surrender while the gettin's good.

One of my daughters had a child at 20 so I think I can explain. As a parent you really have a very simple job - to teach your children how to make a decision, because they don't miraculously know how the day they turn 18, and then how to take responsibility for the decisions they do make, good, bad or indifferent.

All of our children do things that we would not choose for them or wish for them. What Sarah is proud of is that even though Bristol has made a choice that her mother might not have chosen for her at this time, she is mature enough to face the consequences and take responsibility.

That is all that any parent can ask.

What do you say? Do you tell 300 million people that you're ashamed? It's NONE of our business. A girl who made a mistake, a mistake that there but for the grace of God go many of us, is acting tough in a tough situation, taking responsibility for her action, having a baby, and probably getting married. You can be proud of how your child's responded in the aftermath of a bad choice.

And again, none of our business.

Well, I have seen a bunch of really cute women on stage tonight! The Babe Factor is definitely on the Republican side so far.

/Not complainin'

PJ O'Rourke was eloquent about that.

I love George and Barbara Bush! I sent them a wedding invitation in 1990, and I received a card of congratulations!

/does anyone else think of the character George McFly from the Back to the Future series when they see GHW Bush?

PS I LOVE hearing from these smart, capable, FEMININE women who are in CHARGE of major concerns!

318 Who Watches the Watchmen?  Tue, Sep 2, 2008 6:11:16pm

A couple of field reports, for what they're worth:

Report from prisoner: had been pepper sprayed all over her body, was not allowed to wash it off, now has first degree burns.
2 minutes ago from web
Tear gas has been deployed at 7th and Wabash. 2 minutes ago from web

Silly rabbit, capsicum doesn't cause "first degree burns." Heat does.

LOL....I was clicking through the channels the other night and they had reruns of Project Runway.....the contestants were told they had to create an outfit for a powerful woman....this one designer lamented that he didn't want to get the boot just because he had to design an awful pantsuit for Hillary....I was rolling....he was soooo serious

Concerned, supportive, loving, yes. But proud? Of a 17 year old who's preggers?

Please don't shoot. I really need to have this explained, and I am asking in good faith.

It seems to me that they were proud of the fact that she is going to have the child - not take the easy way out. This is from my memory of the entire quote so I could be wrong.

I really love the classical simplicity and impact of the podium stage and single screen backdrop as compared to the garish circus show of party excess that was the chosen design of the Democratic convention.

It fits my sensibilities. And now, just a little bit less rock music please. We can do so much better than that.

One of my sisters had a child at 17. She married the father and are married still to date. I have a pretty awesome 27 year old niece. About three months ago that niece had a beautiful baby boy. Was it the smartest thing my sister ever did? Probably not, she was pretty young. However, she had the courage to have her child? Not taking the easy way out takes a lot of guts! So yeah, I'm proud of her!

We don't know the whole story - but consider this...

1. She knew she was pregnant and decided to carry the baby to term.
2. She fessed up to Mom and Dad knowing that it would be embarassing for Mom as Governor
3. Somwhere along the line I'm sure she was included in a family discussion about the VP and the publicity it would bring and still she stood on stage during the acceptance knowing that it could hit the fan at any time publicity wise.

Then there is that weird parental thing that constantly goes on which is a mix of pride and worry - I'd be pretty disappointed if my teenage daughter was pregnant out of wedlock, but then I'd love her intensely and begin to see her as the mother she will soon become.

Bottom line- they love her and support her even though it isn't convenient for their plans. That is FAMILY VALUES!

re: #336 Dianna

Rudy was bringing up that Obambi was this community organizer. Colmbs said how important it was to register voters. Rudy just laughed.. ( I think that was the moment.. there were a few)

My opinion is that voters should register themselves.

Being proud of the act of getting pregnant is not it, of course.

As I see it, Mom is proud (and any decent mom would be proud) for two reasons:

1) The aftermath of the pregnancy and how she handled it;
2) The totality of her young life, which Mom has watched for 17 long years and which is about much more than a single act -- and the character the daughter has shown overall in her life (her getting pregnant notwithstanding).

She may be the POTUS. She'll set tone. There are a lot of teens out there, and they are affected by cultural factors.
Her public response to this is a valid issue. The words were chosen.

I hadn't thought of it as a "choice" before, but then, I don't think that way. I appreciate the explanations.

Palin represents those 80% of families and
Palin represents home town America, not fly-over country.
