Biden Vows to Prosecute Bush Administration

Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 1:03:01 pm PDT

Angry Joe let it slip that Obama’s will be an avenging administration: Biden Rips Bush Administration.

Looking to the future but with one eye on the past, Biden also promised that an Obama-Biden government would go through Bush administration data with “a fine-toothed comb” and pursue criminal charges if necessary.

“If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation,” he said, “they will be pursued, not out of vengeance, not out of retribution - out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no one, no attorney general, no president, no one is above the law.”

This will set a dangerous precedent that would bite obama in the ass as it would make him just as susceptible to investigation as he's willing to put Bush through. It would effectively tie the hands of all future Presidents as they would have to weigh the consequences of any action they might take from the threat of possible criminal charges. It also undermines Congress' role of oversight into the Executive branch. This is a major violation of both Executive powers and Congressional oversight that would completely undermine our system of government.

Insanely bad precedent. It will either (A) cause administrations to hesitate when action is required, or (B) tempt an administration to hide things that would otherwise be discussed. This is revenge for the Clinton impeachment, pure and simple.

Eh... this is red meat for the Democrats. Or, is it tofu since they eschew the flesh and meat of animals?

He's trying to convince the leftists in his own party that they'll go after the Bush Administration.

Problem is that the American people have come to realize that the Democrats are more interested in prosecuting Republicans than prosecuting a war against terrorists who have murdered our fellow Americans and who stand in the way of national defense every step of the way.

Biden lashed out at those who would impugn his Israel credentials, saying, "I take a backseat to no one including AIPAC" when it comes to supporting Israel.

"They don't speak for the entire Jewish community. There are other organizations that are just as strong and consequential," he said. "AIPAC does not speak for the State of Israel."

Insider.

Biden backs Israel, criticizes AIPAC

"Joe Biden is a strong supporter of the US-Israel relationship," said AIPAC spokesman Josh Block in response. "He's been a staunch supporter of US aid to Israel, a leader in the fight against Palestinian terrorism, and is a vocal advocate of the special relationship between the two democracies. We look forward to continuing to work with him in the senate or in the White House," should he win.

U.S. Pledges $1B in Aid for Georgia
Wednesday, September 03, 2008

WASHINGTON — President George W. Bush on Wednesday said the U.S. will send an extra $1 billion to Georgia to help the pro-Western former Soviet republic in the wake of Russia's invasion.

"Georgia has a strong economic foundation and leaders with an impressive record of reform," Bush said in a statement. "Our additional economic assistance will help the people of Georgia recover from the assault on their country, and continue to build a prosperous and competitive economy."

Vice President Dick Cheney, due in Georgia on Thursday, planned to make the massive aid package a major highlight of his discussions with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. It also undermines Congress' role of oversight into the Executive branch. This is a major violation of both Executive powers and Congressional oversight that would completely undermine our system of government.

You are absolutely right, but we are already traveling down the road at break neck speed. And the Dems and Reps share blame.

I think the Founders may have anticipated this problem though. When it comes to granting pardons the POTUS has unlimted power. He could quite literally pardon every single political appointee at the end of his term.

Still, this is not the stuff middle America wants to here. But the Koslings will love it. Just playing to the base.

I think you missed the point. What was Libby convicted of?

If you meant to say he was caught in a "perjury trap" related to a non-criminal act I understand, but he was still convicted. And I blame the Republicans for that.

Law enforcement and the judicial system has all the foibles of every other government program. Republican's knee jerk support of law enforcement often leads to poorly drafted laws. In an effort "to get the bad guys" they have made criminal laws so vague and disconnected from a criminal act that anyone can be convicted of a crime.

If the Federal government throws enough resources behind an investigation they can convict anyone of lying to the FBI, structuring, wire fraud or mail fraud. And we have our law and order Republicans to thank for that.

Elections are decided with machetes in other countries. The US Constitution defines protocols for civilized debate, and even how to make changes to the document itself, but it only works if everyone involved follows these protocols. This sort of crap starts going on, we may as well put on pinstripe suits, black shirts and white ties, and start deciding our elections with Tommy guns. That's right, Joe. No one is above the law. Not even your daughter.

The daughter of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer outside a Chicago bar.

Ashley Blazer Biden, 21, of Wilmington, Del., was with a group of people on a North Side street where several bars are located when someone else threw a bottle at an officer, police said.

When police tried to arrest another person, Biden blocked the officer’s path and made intimidating statements, officer JoAnn Taylor said.

Biden was later released and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 20.

Sen. Biden’s spokeswoman, Margaret Aitken, declined to comment, calling it a private, family matter.

That would be cool but there is no way the dems are going to allow another "saddleback" format for a debate. Obama got his head handed to him on that one. No, they will want the standard bullshit with some non-impartial commentator like Jim Lehr or Anderson Cooper to make sure that the republican has to stay reigned in and cut off whenever it looks like they might actually score a point.

Really, a practiced debate competitor can use techniques to insert any comments and challenges they like within a carefully worded response to any question.

Sure it's changing the argument, but watch any Fox news debate to observe the Dems' MASTERY of the art. I'm sick of Dems taking charge of every news show debate by ignoring the question and other rhetorical tricks and then spitting out Dem talking points like bullets, while Repubs spend fully two-thirds of their time being fair and gentlemanly by first acknowledging the faults and failures of our party and the Bush administration, before beginning their response - just as the clock runs out.

Yeah... I hate when they ask, "What do you think of red cars?" and the answer is, "I fly jets and I think that makes me more experienced than my opponent."

I'm left thinking: Do they think I'm stupid?

re: #167 Noam Chumpski

So did she get prosecuted or was it "thrown out". That's what I'm more interested in.

Unless you are under 30 or live in a college town you might not realize that getting arrested does not have a stigma anymore.

Last weekend in my home town - a college town - they arrested 70 plus kids for "Prohibitions" according to the police blotter in the Sunday paper. Prohibitions means underage drinking around here.

There were no charges of disorderly conduct, open container (which applies if you are on a street), assault, noise violations or public intoxication listed. These kids were literally on private property (drinking beer) on front porches or in the houses located just off campus.

I know because their addresses were listed and my wife and I walked down the street on the way back from having a burger and beer downtown. We were kind of jealous that we were too old to join them. It was nice weather, the street was pretty quite, the kids were all on porches. One kid was even playing a banjo and apparently impressing the chicks. Not a loud party at all.

Apparently they thought if they were low key and on private property they would not get popped. They were wrong. And the police chief said in the paper the next day he was trying to send a message. He did send a message, but not the one he wanted.

When I was in college getting arrested had a stigma attached. Somewhere along the line when they started arresting everyone it lost the stigma.

I can imagine a major terrorist attack occurring a few months after the Obama Administration officially abolishes the Patriot Act, putting America fully back to sleep and ending the war on terror. How long do you think it would take for Americans to trust another Democrat president? 20, 30 years? Heh...

I don't want to sacrifice an American city for any reason, much less discrediting the Democrat party for a generation.

Meanwhile, Plugs still doesn't know the difference between a brigade and a battalion:

[H]eralding his own experience, Biden also said he “know(s) as much as anyone in government about” national security and foreign policy.
And for the third time since his acceptance speech a week ago, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee confused battalions and brigades.
“Over a year and a half ago,” Biden said of Obama. “He said we need two more combat battalions in Afghanistan.”
Actually, Obama called for two more combat brigades.
A brigade is bigger than a battalion — a brigade, in fact, is composed of a varying number of battalions.

Maybe Biden's suffering from Hillary-style delusions:

At the Dems' CNN/YouTube debate, Biden began began one of his characteristic bloviations by chiding the Bush administration, "Let's start telling the truth." That's the Revision Squad's cue to get on red alert. He proceeded to discuss Iraq's Green Zone: "You better have helicopters ready to take those 3,000 civilians inside the Green Zone, where I have been seven times and shot at." (Emphasis added.)

Well, not exactly. Last month the Hill reported that, when pressed, Biden had to concede that he wasn't sure he'd actually been shot at ... just that there were three occasions — only one of which, it turns out, happened in the Green Zone — when "he felt that he was shot at or might have been shot at." Thinking about the Green Zone incident now, he told the paper, a more accurate comment would have been: “I was near where a shot landed.”

The Democrats are pushing for a one-party system.

They don't just want to win an election. They want to end the existence of the other major party (and they won't ever stop trying to do this.)

They are as racalcitrant towards Republicans as the Arabs in Judea, Samaria and Gaza are towards Israel when it comes to the idea of peaceful co-existence - yet, the Democrats see themselves as the ones who can unite the country and bring peace to the world.

They intend to do this with a sledgehammer. A nice sledgehammer, though.

G-d help us.

Absolutely, unfortunately these asshats think that they'll never be prosecuted because they love the smell of their own carp... smugness... a smug so devastating no can stand before it...

IMHO the Democrats are seriously deranged, it is if the Democratic Party has some resident demon & has had for a long time: During the run-up to the US Civil War, the Democratic Party was the faction that wanted to let slavery continue, and during the Civil War, it was the defeatist faction by and large.

And what if right had not prevailed and the brave Union soldier boys had not won? Would the USA have even been there to tip the balance in WW2 and defeat Hitler and the Nazis?

Only 80 years separates the US Civil War from stopping Hitler:

Depends on the polling techniques. When the delta between the two goes to 30 points then you might have a poll leaning in the correct direction.
