"...Feisty McCain Tells Staff He's Indignant Over Palin Treatment
John McCain spoke to staff and advisers working in the campaign War Room at the Minneapolis Hilton this afternoon, and forcefully vowed to fight hard to defend his running mate Sarah Palin against attacks from the media and Democrats. "They’re not doing right by our vice president, they’re not doing right by the American people," McCain said, according to a source in the room. "We’re gonna fight back, we’re gonna get ‘em.” McCain pounded his fist into his hand as he spoke, the source said, and made clear that he would be aggressively challenging those who are attacking Palin....McCain advisers expect that he will address the issue in his speech to the convention tomorrow evening. McCain's campaign has increasingly turned its sights on the media in recent days as journalists continue to probe Palin's personal life and discuss her performance as a mother. McCain is personally offended by the controversy.
Earlier Wednesday, campaign chief Steve Schmidt blasted the media for its treatment of Palin. "Governor Sarah Palin is an exceptional governor with a record of accomplishment that exceeds, by far, the governing accomplishments of Senator Obama," Schmidt said it a statement. He added: "This vetting controversy is a faux media scandal designed to destroy the first female Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States who has never been a part of the old boys’ network that has come to dominate the news establishment in this country."
And late Wednesday afternoon, Schmidt made a second statement threatening legal action against the National Enquirer for its report that Palin had an extramarital affair.
"The smearing of the Palin family must end. The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Governor Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie. Governor Palin is the most popular governor in the country. She is a proven leader, an accomplished executive, a champion for ethics reform, and a fighter against corruption. The efforts of the media and tabloids to destroy this fine and accomplished public servant are a disgrace. The American people will reject it.
Senator McCain and Governor Palin look forward to discussing the issues that Americans care about, fixing broken government, creating jobs, making our country energy independent and securing the peace for the next generation by bringing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to a victorious end. Legal action will be considered with regard to this disgraceful smear.
Congressman Ed Royce, a conservative from California, says that the attacks on Palin will backfire. “Senator McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin not only energized and excited the Republican base, it sent the liberal media into making-panic-induced personal attacks on her family that are beyond the pale. The more they attack, the more they reinforce her image as an outsider and a reformer and the more attractive she is to independent voters who rightfully mistrust the mainstream media.”

I am becoming more and more convinced that with the bad month that Obama had starting with his global 'victory' tour and culminating with a lackluster convention and being overshadowed by McCain's VP pick the day after the convention, that they have truely decided to abandon any and all pretenses at objectivity and jumped full on the Obama bandwagon.
They, like the hard left hijacked Democrat Party, fully believe today, even more than in 2004, it's party first not country first. The only thing more on display than that is their hypocrisy towards women's rights, feminism, and helping women break that glass ceiling.

Tonight Gov Palin just needs to be herself - strong, engaging, self-confident - and tell her own story. Heavy on her accomplishments as PTA leader, Mayor, Oil and Gas Commisioner, and Governor. Every bit of taking on the GOB network, Oil companies, her own party.
Then an overview of her plans for the economy, her foreign policy principles, and what she believes John McCain/Sarah Palin will offer America.
Then finish it off with a statement of strength, including a broad statement about how she's experienced opposition in the past and has overcome it, because she had right on her side and the love and support of her family.
She doesn't need to defend herself - her substance will do that for her.
Then in the next few days Fred Thompson goes out and swings, Joe Lieberman heads to Florida, Mitt goes to Michigan, Huck goes where he showed strong. Sarah Palin heads to Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. McCain goes to Pennsylvania and practically lives there, and Sarah joins him several times a week.

When you truly believe with all of your heart that you are the majority of America (which they do) then there's no reason not to just drop it all and go for broke.
It will hopefully be the last straw. And the ensuing fall in ad revenue will cause some kind of "New Media" to emerge. But then again, if you look at the NY Times you may find that they would rather go down with the ship than try to go for balance and objectivity. My money's on option #2.

I am becoming more and more convinced that with the bad month that Obama had starting with his global 'victory' tour and culminating with a lackluster convention and being overshadowed by McCain's VP pick the day after the convention, that they have truely decided to abandon any and all pretenses at objectivity and jumped full on the Obama bandwagon.

The result will be an even stronger turn off of Middle America than in 2004 - and they will once again lose the groups that they need to win. Oh, and they still won't get why that's happened. That's how out of touch with reality that they are.
They are so arrogant and their egos so large they say the most amazing things defending their non-bias in journalism that are so biased the journalists are clueless as to what they said. After the disasterous 2004 election, the journalists held a conference on journalistic bias and Dan Rather was the featured speaker. Go figure!

Ammo's gone up, military demand stress the supply. Mostly all the manufacturing that's been dedicated to military, leaves less capacity for civilian production. Additionally gun sales, gun show attendance, license applications (WA up 44%) and ammo sales all way up. Folks (me included) stocked up and bought firearms in case BHO became POTUS and new firearms restrictions came out of congress for him to sign (almost a certainty). The increase in demand from both military and civilians is driving the price.
As the military need eases with the success in Iraq, and civilians back off purchases as the threat of a BHO win lessens the price will drop, expect and even bigger drop with a McCain win and folks relax and quit stocking up.

Hillary earned a lot of respect in this household for her handling of it. None of us like her political positions & didn't want to see Bill as First Dude, but if it came to a choice between her and Obama we would every single one have voted for her.
I don't know about smearing them back, but we sure can boycott them and the folks that advertise with them. And we can all get out there and get out the vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin. You can volunteer on John's website. I would love to see him raise several thousand new volunteers this weekend.
Way back when they slaughtered Geraldine Ferraro - and it has set us back years. And then they shoved Hillary aside. If we as women want to ever have an equal place in American politics then we cannot allow them to do this a third time!

Check out southeast Alaska where I live. Fairbanks is too extreme. They have friggin permafrost all year long. And the mosquitos there in the summer are horrendous.
I live in southeast, in the Tongass National Forest. Sometimes it can get below zero in the winter, but it is rare. And in the summer, in can get into the 70's and 80's.

While back my wife blew the whistle, the admins where changing ICD-9 codes to ones medicare would accept. She found out when, she got contacted to give testimony in a court case. Not only illegal, but embrassing when you testify to a course of treatment, but the coding is different. Nice way to impeach a witness.

If he had any shame, he'd send his daughters to the schools he "improved" but he doesn't - they go to private school.

Watching this idiotic discussion about how Sarah does not have experience is driving me nuts. Add in the useless idiots on the left attacks on her family only adds to my displeasure.
That the majority of the media is so extremely biased against the right side of the fence is frightening. A coworker and I have discussed on and off over the last few years about civil unrest in America; due to the growing valley between the left and right. Although I always knew that it is possible this week has me thinking more towards the probable.

Well, buck up. The Democratic Party of your parents are Republicans. The Democratic Party of today are Marxists. My Dad was a Democrat. He had a small business and I used to tell him the party that actually followed his beliefs were the Republicans. But he always associated Republicans with Herbert Hoover, and I think I was probably 14 or so before I found out that the word fucking was not an adjective for Republican.

I once knew someone who had lived in a monastery for a period of time. He said that in this community, shut off from the world, you did not escape the pressures which were present in the larger world--they were magnified by virtue of the community's self-imposed isolation.
By the same token, having to deal with issues as a small-town mayor and as the governor of a thinly-populated, extremely large state, means that one has to deal with things in an up close and personal manner, without the luxury of being able to hide behind a phalanx of protective flunkies, voicemail, and euphemisms.
Something to keep in mind.
Hewitt made that point about small town politics. A small town mayor has to managing everything, without upsetting friends. That when a mayor does something unpopular, the town has to know the mayor is honest, and doing it for the right reason. That generates respect.

I did a lot of thinking about that during the Clinton years.
Charles Colson had two illegal FBI files on his desk and went to prison.
Hillary Clinton "found" over 200 in her personal quarters & was barely criticized for it.
I could go on and on.
I was in Europe during Watergate and I remember people asking why it was such a big deal. Maybe they were right. Maybe it was only the MSM whpping up hysteria over a minor escapade. Maybe I was duped.

Was more of an adventure then than now, I would venture. Back then, only 1 same day newscast, cable TV, LOL, no way. Loved the midnight sun, and the Northern Lights. First time I ever saw buffalo up close and personal, and of course the Moose wandering down main street of the Base, like it was nothing out of the ordinary.
You got that right, is an adventure.
I found out quick that there are city moose and country moose - and city moose aren't spooked by anything and step over 6' fences with ease.

I don't think Hillary thinks that Sarah will win. Or figures that she will be able to walk over her come 2012. Seems pretty insensitive to me. Any thoughts on this?
For starters, Palin attends three churches - one in Wasilla, one in Juneau, and one in Anchorage.
The Chasid Jewish community in Anchorage, Alaska, knows Sarah Palin. The rabbi of that community has made a statement in support of Palin attesting to her friendship for Israel. And if you look at pictures of Sarah Palin in her office, you will - if you look closely - find an Israeli flag.

Even locals get sucked in now and again. During one particularly harsh winter some folks on the Kenai Peninsula who lived in a mobile home just outside Homer - occasionally fed the moose in the area carrots and other veggies in their yard to help them out. When they stopped feeding them a couple months later the moose battered the mobile homes door and side in. The couple barely escaped. They don't feed wildlife anymore.

I can't clam down, - or calm down either. I cannot begin to tell you how completely and utterly FURIOUS I am over this. I have fought for fifty years for equal rights. They weren't too damned equal when I was Bristol Palin's age. First I fought for me, and then I fought for my daughters and now I am still fighting for my granddaughters. When I see this crap after all of these years, when there is not a family in the entire country where women don't bring in half the bacon and pull most of their traditional load too I am LIVID.

I have heard Orthodox rabbis claim that the Holocaust was G-D's punishment for Jews not keeping Sabbath, so I guess that means if I was nominated for VP I'd also be responsible for that, according to Kos and Dish.

We had a black bear in our backyard the other day. I think he got a whiff of the salmon we were smoking in the smoker on the back deck. He was a nice size.
Mmmmmm - home smoked salmon - yumzies! I use to get some in Bell jars from some Athabaskans when I traveled around up there. Would stop off at the Peter Pan cannery in Valdez and pick up a couple of cases of salmon when they were harvesting the Copper River run.
Living in the SE sounds much easier.

Something you could try is going to dslreports.com, do the "tweak test" (you have to register I think) and then D/L DRTCP to set your RWIN value to the recommended setting. Don't mess with the other settings, just the RWIN.

The left DOES NOT want to get into a contest about church attendance and what anyone's pastor's sermons are! Obama loses on this one, believe me.

Well, there are plenty of clueless Jews; those in my family who are voting for Big Zero, for instance.
My point was that without knowing the source of it, I couldn't tell if it was intended to be funny, or intended to have an ugly political purpose; it could be used either way. I tried to make that point about satire some weeks ago; it plays well to any audience that shares the same basic in-crowd assumptions, but cuts back at those very people once it leaves the sacred precincts.
Just after I posted some sage advice to the new person wanting to know "the ropes".

This is slightly off topic but some Christians view the rebuilding of the Temple Mount as a precursor for doomsday. Do you have any clue how the Jews feel about it? Are there Jewish prophecies about it or is it just a Christian thing?
Beyond reading a few books long ago and watching the Left Behind movies once some time ago, I generally ignore such Pre- (or Mid- or Post-) Tribulation Rapture, Pre-Millennial Dispensationalism as I think they misunderstand the prophecies that they base these beliefs on. An online search of these terms may yeild what you are looking for (or just really annoy you).
In the Jewish Scriptures (the Old Testament), they rely heavily on the prophetic books of Daniel and Ezekiel. In the New Testament, they rely primarily on the Apocalypse or Revelation (same book, two names) along with a few verses taken from the Gospels and Epistles.
My understanding is that there are a few Jews at least that wish to rebuild the Temple, but I have no source for this information.

At least since 1967 Israelis have been advocating a plan where the Israeli government pays Arab?Musims to voluntarily leave. Everytime it was brought up, it was said to be racist, and therefore unfeasible.....that was until they decided that Jews had less rights than Arab/Muslims.
Just like the disengagement which showed that although you cannot destroy the one home of a Terrorist, even after he/she has committed the Terrorist act...it is perfectly fine to ethnically cleanse every Jew and Jewish symbol from the land...this will further evidence that the Israeli government is working against the interests of its Jewish citizens and believes that Jews have less rights than the Arabs.

Catholics don't believe in necessarily the word "rapture" or "millennialism", but:

Reporting in on reality in the People's Republic of Western NY:
1) It was the kid's 1st day of school. Somehow, her chemistry teacher managed to make mention of "Global Warning" (kid forgets the context). Even in chemistry!
2) The lady who owns the business that cleans my workplace said the regular pundit on a local radio show she listens to was apparently off, and they had a moonbat in instead. Moonbat (I think it was a woman) said such horrendous things about Palin that Businesswoman got extremely angry and could not listen to it any more.
3) I went to lunch with a bunch of guys. College grads and professionals all. One eventually mentioned that Palin was giving a speech tonight. Most had kind of a "Who is she, anyway?" attitude, although they were well aware of many of the moonbat attacks against her. None had any idea that Obama is associated with an unapologetic terrorist, that a close associate of his (who handled his home purchase) was in jail for corruption, and that when reporters are asked to name an Obama accomplishment they become speechless. One poor ignorant stiff said, "but it's not a reporter's job to defend Obama"...
