Yes

617 BGOH  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 8:00:38pm

I have never been enamored with a political candidate before, but I am now. I was born four months after Reagan took office, so I was too young to enjoy those heady days. I can only imagine that what I am witnessing now is similar to the inspiration that Sarah Palin is inspiring within me right now.

And, no, my enchantment with her has nothing to do with her physical appearance. She is one of the most impressive, intelligent, and inspiring speakers that I have ever heard. Because she means EXACTLY what she says.

THAT, my friends, is leadership.

OK - a bit of cold water. It's my job to drop excrement on people's dreams, so this was a good speech--not a great one. It was very entertaining and moving, but it was not a haymaker, knock-out punch. Matt Sculley wrote a good speech and she delivered it very well. But, keep in mind that the bar for her was low--all she needed to do was keep her composure, say her lines and hit her marks. She did that and more. But, this is not the end. It is not te beginning of the end. It is the end of the beginning--the campaign will continue.

Palin Confirms She's A Purely Political Pick
by georgia10
Wed Sep 03, 2008 at 08:12:25 PM PDT

If there was any doubt left among voters, pundits, and politicos alike that John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin was based purely on politics, tonight's speech should lay to rest any notion that Republicans chose their candidate based on anything other than a shallow political calculus.

With her snarky, amateurish, almost Student Council-like speech, Palin proved today that she can attack like a candidate for vice-president. And she demonstrated that she can support the top of the ticket like a candidate for vice-president.

re: #748 Silhouette

What is up with the orange handkerchiefs up front?

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a shout out to Hillary supporters - Hillary wore orange for her speech, some have said as a sign of "captivity" (i.e. prisoner jumpsuit orange) or of being forced to do something she didn't want to do.

SO perhaps that is a shout out to disgusted Hillary supporters who were blown over by the sexism that Sarah's now going through?

Dunno. Just a thought.

All true. Guliani really set it up well, and she delivered a good speech.

More importantly, though -- perhaps far more importantly -- she delivered a good speech under exceedingly difficult conditions. A real crucible. So factoring in that handicap, she comes away a real winner.

It is a close game. RB ( running back ) McCain usually is given the ball and runs up the middle. He has not gotten a lot of yards with that play. That offensive line is big, but seems unable to get in the right position to block. They have just bought in a new QB ( quarterback ) Palin, hopefully she can get this offense rolling. Little is known about this player from Alaska, lots of criticism from the local press. Seems small for the position. First play, she calls an audible, fakes to McCain, fades back as to throw, no one is open. She tucks that ball under her arms and run the length of the field. Touchdown! Just what McCain and this team needed. Now, maybe that run up the middle will work a little better, with the whole field having to be defended. Great job Palin, you are a winner.

OHHH MYYYYY GOTTTT! She was stinking BRILLIANT! She knocked it out of the park, out of the town, out of the ATMOSPHERE! If the leftie moonbats weren't barking mad by today, they will be now. The line that cinched it for me, paraphrasing, 'Some people promote change to make their careers, others use their careers to bring about change,' referring of course to John McCain's entire political service against Barack Obama's. I literally cried.
She is the perfect complement to McCain, she has strengths where he is not very strong and the two of them are staggeringly perfect for America. A bona fide American Patriot and a bona fide American Woman, together again for the very first time. Geez, you mean not unlike the millions of service men and women protecting America and other countries right this very minute, and their equally devoted wives/husbands and families back home?
I still think McCain is 90% wrong about illegal immigration, and a few other things, but, BUT, he is 100% right about Sarah Palin.
If the women who were betrayed by the Democratic party do not turn -- no, run -- toward McCain/Palin because of her, then nothing will move them. Their loss!
Can you imagine it? A real war hero for president... and a woman vice president... I can barely stand it.

K.O. is saying that this speech gave democrats the all clear to attack her because she can take it.

Brian Williams is an ass. I used to watch him - sheesh!

898 Reality_Wrangler  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 8:41:56pm

MSNBC: Brian Williams is doing a hatchet job (for Olbermann) on Palin, and Olbermann just got Williams to say Rudy proved that McCain needed Palin's experience to balance the ticket. NBC scum are apoplectic...

Brokaw counting on American public to digest Rudy's statement that media is biased toward Osama...

Mac is an 'effin genius. The maverick know what he is doing.

Next: Palin makes 'em weep on The View.

All in all, that was a pretty good speech. I loved the sincerity and the humility. Here's a person who understands me, Mr. Average American. Not in some textbook "policitical science" kind of way, but because she lives a normal life every day.

Oh, yeah, and the merciless, brutal evisceration of The One? That rocked.

903 robin  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 9:06:20pm

Wow. That was one powerful speech. No matter how the media or the Democrats spin this, she was hard hitting and brutal. John McCain has chosen perfectly. Sarah Palin will appeal on many levels. She walks the walk and talks the talk. Her record of standing up for what she believes in, sends a very powerful message.

Um, I just listened to Bridget Brille, or what ever her name is, say the same thing on CNN 2 minutes before your post. Pretty much word for word. So are you her? And if so I just want you to know that your delivery sounded alot like sour grapes. Just thought I'd let you know.

Turn about is fairplay. And, while wearing impeccable lipstick. Inexorable. We have a contender. Let them rest and dine well for tomorrow, the battle begins. AT LAST!

re: #908 good2geaux

Hey.

Yeah. Mom and Dad made it back to Metairie this PM. Power was back and the freezer hadn't thawed. Lots of mess in the yard, but that will give Dad something to do. The wife's fam is mack on the Gulf Coast, no worse for wear. A close run thing, really. Now, let's see where this Ike fella is gonna go.

The best news; the Saints are playing on Sunday--in da Dome! Come hell and high water! You think Tampa Bay has a chance this weekend?

re: #904 Capitalistincharge

Nope. not me and no sour grapes. Just some really heavily guarded optimism! Trying hard to keep objectivity in check as I have been burned before.

But the hours are good and I get paid $300 per hour. It is so hard to quit.
