Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book.

It's a warm humid night here in So Cal, but right now there is a delightful fresh breeze. If it's okay to name hurricanes, then I name this breeze....PALIN!

SARAH PALIN IS A YOUNGER, AMERICAN MARGARET THATCHER!

THank you, God!

Laydeez and Gontelmenz,

I predict a landslide of EPIC PROPORTIONS for McCain - Palin in November, and am looking forward to 8 years of McCain FOLLOWED BY EIGHT YEARS OF PALIN!

It's very slow on my end, so I don't think I'll be here long. I will say I'm glad the conventioneering is almost over. I'm tired of it all and wish it were November already.

11 Fenway_Nation  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 9:39:17pm

On a non-Palin-centric note, I finally had an epiphany about why I don't particularly care for Obama so much as a person. Did you ever run into one of those overbearing salesmen at the used car lot or one of those cell-phone kiosks in the mall? The one who decides to pretend he's your long-lost buddy while selling you some marginal, overpriced goods?

I think that fits Obama to a T.

55 Intrepid  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 9:50:18pm

Well, the line-up tonight was amazing. Every major speaker - Mitt, Huck, Rudy - hit home runs. Kudos to Gov Lindle from Hawaii, who gave a decent speech and a symbolic on as well. The Governor of the 50th state (a woman) introducing the Governor of the 49th state (Gov Palin).

But the headliner - although at first she was a bit hesitant, she built up her moxie. And she delivered a solid hit in a game that is 4-4, in the 9th inning, 2 outs, 3/2 count.

She's a force to reckon with, I'd say. And the wackjobs will be at it in force tomorrow!

It's quite interesting that we have the two aging decade-long senators, and the two out of nowhere bright stars. But on the GOP side the older more experienced man is at the head of the ticket, as it should be.

I hope McCain gets a big bounce from the convention. Of course the polls are flawed and cam be interpreted in different ways, there's only one poll that counts, etc. But I would really want the Dems to be shitting bricks at this point. OTOH, if they were to get overconfident that could work in our favor as well.

It's interesting that the prime identity candidate for "ArcXIX" appears to share the same residence with a labor activist who has endorsed B Hussein O.

Take a peek here, and specifically note references to the Franklin County Clerk of Courts. A quick search of a Charles and a William, of the same family name, yield compelling results.

Further, take a peek at these:

www.neoalf.org/files/januaryaflcioelectronicnewsle tter.pdf

my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/gwtardy/gG5 GkL

"ArcXIX" has been purging references to himself all over the net, changing his name, sometimes more than once, so that Google hits don't yield the expected result unless one selects the cached entry.

Interestingly, a fellow with the same name, living in the same city (Columbus, Ohio) has had his name purged from a site for a lupus charity.

I tuned in at 9 for Rudy and Sarah.

- Rudy was fun, but sometimes I can see what the lefties are talking about when they say he's creepy. :) He could have put the 9/11 stuff somewhere else besides the end of his speech, too... It validates the caricature of him from Buchanan's magazine. I'm glad he didn't pull any punches, though - what a great set-up for Gov. Palin, and I enjoyed somebody FINALLY calling Bullshit on Obie.

- Sarah was great. I was worried she might come across as the aw-shucks mom, or sound whiny, or appear diminutive or "out of touch", and she got up there and hit it right out of the park. She is such a good speaker too. I heard her slip up a little bit ONCE in the whole time she was up there.

So many zingers tonight. Republicans really know how to kick somebody HARD when they want to, and they know that the soft underbelly of any leftist is NARCISSISM, and the knife you need to use is MOCKERY.

They just won't stop: Palin denies affair rumors

Quote:
John McCain’s campaign threatened legal action against the National Enquirer today for running a story about McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, allegedly having an affair with her husband’s business partner.

“The smearing of the Palin family must end. The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov. Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie,” said McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt.
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09...y4413030.sh tml

All this based on people they 'paid' to say what they wanted to hear.

And why is CBS is reporting on a National Enquirer story?!

Where were they on the John Edward''s affair story months ago? That was broken in the National Enquirer and they would not touch it for months even when it was ACTUAL proof.

And now they are touting a national enquirer story that is based on zero actual evidence.

Regardless, get ready for the innuendo and rumors to fly on MSNBC/CNN/etc, all of them pretending to be innocent and just 'mentioning something they heard'.

She could kick Reid's pompous ass. She would have plenty left over to put a pump in Olberman's rear. She could then invite Obambi to a friendly game of one-on-one. Of course it wouldn't be so friendly.

Obambi reminds me of Anthony Edwards in the movie "Soul Man". He wears black face paint and the intramural team fights all over themselves to pick him for their basketball team.

I personally know a number of Jews for Jesus - there is absolutely no jew hating from these people, it is quite the opposite. It is just another lie of the left.

Reportedly, this particular JFJ guy was invited on a one-time basis to speak at the church that Palin attends. Reportedly, he claimed that terrorist attacks in Israel were God's payback for their rejecting Jesus.

The left is trying to spin this into "Palin's pastor says Jews deserve terrorist attacks." An idiotic post to that effect is getting thousands of diggs over at digg.com.

I think Sarah needs to issue a statement on this issue at some point pretty soon, attempts to make more of it than that are incredibly ridiculous.

That was great. I'd been hearing about that. He had no answer for any of her questions. I think there should be even more scrutiny of the US story and of the media reporting the National Enquirer's unfounded allegations. Since they ignored the allegations the Enquirer made against Edwards -- even though there was plenty of evidence -- I'm interested to know why they suddenly think it's okay to report the Enquirer's stories.

And come on. Did they look at Todd Palin? No way she's cheating on that guy.

Things are really hoppin', so I haven't read everything:

Has anyone brought up the fact that several talking heads have mentioned that a speech-writer (gasp) wrote her speech? I watched the Fox guys from the balcony of the Muppet Show say it twice.

I don't recall anyone making that point last night after FRED and Joe were done.

Why is it that a woman can't have a speechwriter? Does this make her dumb now?

This is insulting and is really pissing off Mrs. Sifty.

They can spin it any way they want, but it is pure, unadulterated Mysoginy with a capital M.

That's all they have.

Did you catch the rumblings about "forcing her off the ticket" from the HuffPo corner? They are "fixing and destroying her" (or attempting to do so) per Alinsky, but the only angle they have is hatred of what she is. So they basically want to "fix" her as a scared little girl, a little piece of window dressing that will run away crying to her Panic Room if they're mean enough.

It's fucking vile.

With no respect to Sen. Reid intended at all, he's an asshole.
A bipartisan committee, composed of non-politicians but geologists, nuclear engineers and envriomental engineers met two years ago and unanimously recommended that spent nuclear rods and other nuclear waste products could be safely contained in a tehcie jargon-loaded type of container and that it should be buried and suitably covererd so as to not leak out. They also unamimously recommended a tiny place in the vast wasteland that is most of Nevada as THE best place to bury it.
Harry Reid, single handedly defeated that project, leaving us, for the time being, with no sound method or place to get rid of nuclear generator waste by-products.
He then saw to it that said committee never got another dime to find another location.
Reid is all about Reid and can't see the Greater American Good at all.
Moreover, he is typical of the Lefties in this respect; they do not see and dont' even look for solutions to America's problems, just their own little feifdoms.
McCain and Palin really do threaten them horribly.

Rachel Madow’s point was that her being there was the same has Obama being in Wright’s church for 20 years and declaring the not so good reverend to be his spiritual advisor. That and she throw out a lot of out of context remarks about terror attacks being God’s judgment for rejecting Jesus. If she had read the bible she would know that it was full of Israel being attacked has Judgment for rejecting God in one form or another. So if you’re a Christian it is not that outrageous of a statement, and if you’re not, but you know your bible, then you should be able to understand his point even if you don’t agree with it. That said I don’t know what Jews for Jesus is about or how they go about doing what they do. I do know from what little I have heard that it is in no way the monster that Rachel Madow made it out to be.

Sarah Palin took to the floor of the Republican Convention Wednesday night and delivered a slapshot right to the gut of the Obama campaign

This speech was part mom, part Pit Bull and part policy wonk. I mean she went after Obama as hard as anyone. She basically ripped him to shreds but she didn’t do it in a way that looked mean or vindictive. That’s hard to do but she pulled it off. Instead, she did it in a way that playfully poked fun at his expense. There was no reason for her to deliver her lines in a mean, terse way. Rather, she let the crowd take care of the wild and raucous reaction. They were eating it up.

Do you think Michelle is still throwing things or have they sedated her yet?

Giuliani's destined for bigger things than AG, I think. I think he may still have a shot at the big chair, down the line, and depending how the next four to eight years go.

I'm a big Rudy fan, but his lackluster showing in his presidential run makes me think he does not have the fire for a national campaign. If he still wants to serve the poeple. AG in the McCain administration would be perfect.

I am at the convention. Several reports that you may be interested in.

First off, it must be obvious from the tv that the delegates were jazzed tonight. I hope the country is too.

Second, I had dinner with the Ambassador from India to the US. Indians are very pro-McCain. There is s group that has just formed three weeks ago to back McCain. They are very afraid of terrorists, and very afraid of what may happen if they get total control of Pakistan. Obama is friendlier to terrorists. These are lifelong Dems that are switching.

Third, my seat is behind the guys that are running the convention. Rudy went terribly over his time limit, giving the operations guys fits! He ad libbed a lot of that speech, not using the teleprompter. I told one operation guy that Rudy is ticking you off, but they are clapping at home!

Fourth, Code Pink almost made it onstage when Sarah Palin was speaking. They made their way down the steps and were around 10 feet from the stage before the secret service grabbed them. The Code Pinkers almost ran over a couple holding an infant. It was a scary moment in an awesome night. The only way that I can see they got in was to have credentials, and change in a bathroom.

I am for peaceful protest and civil disobedience. What Code Pink did this evening was to endanger the life of a young baby, and was anything but civil.
Security is very tight here, so they must have been pretty sneaky.

Tomorrow Johnny Mac. Hopefully he brings down the house.

Wow! Now I understand. Sarah Palin is a game changer, and she has turned this race on its head. I wanted Romney, but he never would have energized the ticket as she has done.

She is inexperienced, and not ready for the presidency. But her inexperience it is becoming clear, only highlights Obama's inexperience. With a couple of years as vp I think she would be 100% ready to be president. Our ticket is right-side-up, and theirs is upside down.

Glad to be back on board.

Oh, phssshhh.

No, Keith Olbermann didn't 'try to break in on Giuliani's speech' as some had said. There was just a studio misfire, for about 2 seconds, if that long.

I like football, but I hate Olbermann. What shall I do when the NFL broadcasts begin?

I have a satellite DVR and I have internet. You can get great radio broadcasts from most local football town radio stations on the Internet, and with the DVR you can pause and restart the video as desired. So please tell the nation that there is a way to sync the football video with (anything but Olbermann) audio to enjoy our national pastime without nausea. Olbermann, you and your toupee are history!

I know the Dems say the same things about Republican, that they could never vote for a Repub because of X or Y, but I'm going to state flat-out that as it stands, I can't vote for a mainstream Democrat because of the sick, sick, SICK nature of the Dem's leftist base. That's a really good question I am wondering about. The votes of those of us on one clearly defined side or other isn't going to change much compared to 2004. The question is, how will the extra black and youth votes on the other side add up compared to the PUMA and working class democrat crossover votes (and maybe some Jewish votes). Now that the GOP base is shored up, it's less critical than before the Palin pick I would think. At the moment I think the electoral math is in our favor.

They are very afraid of terrorists, and very afraid of what may happen if they get total control of Pakistan. Obama is friendlier to terrorists. These are lifelong Dems that are switching.

Good. I've been saying here on LGF for the past few weeks, only half jokingly, that we need to outsource Armageddon to India. Pakistan is likely to fall to Islamic militants, we need to prepare for it and make sure that the structures are in place that will enable the US and Indian militaries to work together. There are many reasons why the US and India should be natural allies.
And Indian Americans, with their culture of entrepreneurship should fit well in the Republican party.

Code Stink need to be exposed as the deranged and dangerous leftists that they are. They should not be allowed to hide behind their pink skirts any longer.

re: #310 neocon hippie

That's a really good question I am wondering about. The votes of those of us on one clearly defined side or other isn't going to change much compared to 2004. The question is, how will the extra black and youth votes on the other side add up compared to the PUMA and working class democrat crossover votes (and maybe some Jewish votes). Now that the GOP base is shored up, it's less critical than before the Palin pick I would think. At the moment I think the electoral math is in our favor.

The "black vote" is energized more than normal, but the "youth vote" will probably crap out like it always does... As for the rest, I think there are a lot of people waiting in the wings who are very quietly planning to vote against Obama no matter who's on the other ticket.

Down here in RepuglithugliKKKan Texas, there's a sense of absolute certainty that nobody here is going for Obama except black people and hipster doofuses who shop at Whole Foods.

Here is a hell of a write up for Palin worth emailing to all of your friends -

JOHN FUND ON THE TRAIL

Palin's Home Run
Is there still an enthusiasm gap?
September 4, 2008 1:05 a.m.

St. Paul

Twenty years after Ronald Reagan left office, Republicans who have long missed him may have found a future Margaret Thatcher. If John McCain wins, conservatives may find one of the most enduring accomplishments of his term will have been what he did before it started: helping to fill the Republican Party's future talent bench with such a fresh and compelling figure.

Sarah Palin is a conviction politician, a naturally compelling speaker and someone who can relate to her audience on very human terms. America has just learned why Mrs. Palin enjoys the highest approval ratings of any governor in America.

Liberal commentators glumly noted the thunderous applause in the convention hall last night. But they could do precious little to attack. Even Keith Olbermann, MSNBC's official attack dog, could muster only this as commentary on Mrs. Palin's performance: "People who like this sort of thing will find this ... the sort of thing they like."

Mrs. Palin accomplished several things last night. First, she introduced herself and her story to the American people in a compelling and warm manner, complete with effective pictures of her proud family. Secondly, she praised John McCain's leadership, service to country and independence in a way that made him come alive. Thirdly, she effectively deflected the media and liberal criticism of her by saying they really represented an attack on the small-town and suburban values she grew up with. Lastly, she skewered Barack Obama with gusto but without meanness. Her line about her job as a small-town mayor being "sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities" brought the hall to its feet in a frenzy.

Some hard-bitten political observers I know were uncharacteristically impressed with the Palin speech. Hal Stratton, a former Attorney General of New Mexico, wrote to me as follows: "That's what we out west call openin' a whole can of whip a— on your opponents."

Other observers were more restrained, but still impressed. "She passed her first major test, and if the reaction of the crowd in the hall is any indication, with flying colors," says Peter Brown, the deputy director of the Quinnipiac Poll. "So much for the comparisons with Dan Quayle, who couldn't have given that speech if his life depended on it. Obviously, Sarah Palin probably went down better in Warren, Michigan than she did in Washington, D.C. -- but that was the whole point of her speech and her candidacy." Indeed, while Mrs. Palin certainly won't swing any deeply blue states in John McCain's direction, she may have an impact in swaying independent voters as well as boosting GOP turnout in swing states such as Colorado, Nevada and Michigan.

One of the standard operating theories this Election Year is that Barack Obama and the Democrats are much more energized, excited and willing to work hard for victory in November.

After Sarah Palin's remarkably effective speech, I don't think any pundits or politicians will be able to count on a decisive Democratic enthusiasm edge. Sarah Palin electrified the hall, and from what I can tell from my e-mail inbox that excitement is being replicated in living rooms across the country.

363 Ledger1  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 11:06:40pm

Part1.

Here is the text of Palin’s inspiring speech.

I love the stuff about taxes and drilling for oil.

I think some of this is going to leave a mark on Obama – such as the cheap "Styrofoam" pillars (sound of frying pan against Obama’s skull).

Text:

SARAH PALIN: Mr. Chairman, delegates, and fellow citizens, I will be honored to accept your nomination for vice president of the United States.
(APPLAUSE)
I accept the call to help our nominee for
president to serve and defend America. And I accept the challenge of a tough fight in this election against confident opponents at a crucial hour for our country.
And I accept the privilege of serving with a man who has come through much harder missions, and met far graver challenges, and knows how tough fights are won, the next president of the United States, John S. McCain.
(APPLAUSE)
It was just a year ago when all the experts in Washington counted out our nominee because he refused to hedge his commitment to the security of the country he loves.
With their usual certitude, they told us that all was lost, there was no hope for this candidate, who said that he would rather lose an election than see his country lose a war. But the pollsters…
(APPLAUSE)
The pollsters and the pundits, they overlooked just one thing when they wrote him off. They overlooked the caliber of the man himself, the determination, and resolve, and the sheer guts of Senator John McCain.
(APPLAUSE)
The voters knew better, and maybe that’s because they realized there’s a time for politics and a time for leadership, a time to campaign and a time to put our country first.
(APPLAUSE)
Our nominee for president is a true profile in courage, and people like that are hard to come by. He’s a man who wore the uniform of his country for 22 years and refused to break faith with those troops in Iraq who now have brought victory within sight.
(APPLAUSE)
And as the mother of one of those troops, that is exactly the kind of man I want as commander-in-chief.
I’m just one of many moms who will say an extra prayer each night for our sons and daughters going into harm’s way. Our son, Track, is 19. And one week from tomorrow, September 11th, he’ll deploy to Iraq with the Army infantry in the service of his country.
My nephew, Casey (ph), also enlisted and serves on a carrier in the Persian Gulf.
My family is so proud of both of them and of all the fine men and women serving the country in uniform.
(APPLAUSE)
AUDIENCE: USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
So Track is the eldest of our five children. In our family, it’s two boys and three girls in between, my strong and kind- hearted daughters, Bristol, and Willow, and Piper.
(APPLAUSE)
And we were so blessed in April. Todd and I welcomed our littlest one into the world, a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig.
You know, from the inside, no family ever seems typical, and that’s how it is with us. Our family has the same ups and downs as any other, the same challenges and the same joys.
Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge. And children with special needs inspire a very, very special love. To the families of special-needs…
(APPLAUSE)
To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message for you: For years, you’ve sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. And I pledge to you that, if we’re elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.
(APPLAUSE)

364 Ledger1  Wed, Sep 3, 2008 11:07:38pm

Part 2.

And Todd is a story all by himself. He’s a lifelong commercial fisherman and a production operator in the oil fields of Alaska’s North Slope, and a proud member of the United Steelworkers union. And Todd is a world champion snow machine racer.
(APPLAUSE)
Throw in his Yup’ik Eskimo ancestry, and it all makes for quite a package. And we met in high school. And two decades and five children later, he’s still my guy.
(APPLAUSE)
My mom and dad both worked at the elementary school in our small town. And among the many things I owe them is a simple lesson that I’ve learned, that this is America, and every woman can walk through every door of opportunity.
And my parents are here tonight.
I am so proud to be the daughter of Chuck and Sally Heath (ph).
(APPLAUSE)
Long ago, a young farmer and a haberdasher from Missouri, he followed an unlikely path — he followed an unlikely path to the vice presidency. And a writer observed, “We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity,” and I know just the kind of people that writer had in mind when he praised Harry Truman.
I grew up with those people. They’re the ones who do some of the hardest work in America, who grow our food, and run our factories, and fight our wars. They love their country in good times and bad, and they’re always proud of America.
(APPLAUSE)
I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom and signed up for the PTA.
(APPLAUSE)
I love those hockey moms. You know, they say the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.
(APPLAUSE)
So I signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education even better. And when I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and I knew their families, too.
Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska…
(APPLAUSE)

Part 4

Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reason and not just to mingle with the right people. Politics isn’t just a game of clashing parties and competing interests. The right reason is to challenge the status quo, to serve the common good, and to leave this nation better than we found it.
(APPLAUSE)
No one expects us all to agree on everything, but we are expected to govern with integrity, and goodwill, and clear convictions, and a servant’s heart.
And I pledge to all Americans that I will carry myself in this spirit as vice president of the United States.
(APPLAUSE)
This was the spirit that brought me to the governor’s office when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau, when I stood up to the special interests, and the lobbyists, and the Big Oil companies, and the good-old boys.
Suddenly, I realized that sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power-brokers. That’s why true reform is so hard to achieve.
But with the support of the citizens of Alaska, we shook things up. And in short order, we put the government of our state back on the side of the people.
(APPLAUSE)
I came to office promising major ethics reform to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is a law.
While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor’s office that I didn’t believe our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet was over-the-top.
(APPLAUSE)
I put it on eBay.
(APPLAUSE)
I love to drive myself to work. And I thought we could muddle through without the governor’s personal chef, although I got to admit that sometimes my kids sure miss her.
(APPLAUSE)
I came to office promising to control spending, by request if possible, but by veto, if necessary.

Please allow me to throw my comment on the pile (I miss all the Ajax fun working nights). The speech was very well done. I'd give it an 8 for delivery and a 7.5 content. And I hope Kos, Olbermann and Obama choke on it.

Seriously, I encourage everyone (yourself included) to go out and start documenting things. I'm really just an average person, believe it or not -- anybody can pick up a camera and continue the revolution! I didn't invent citizen journalism and I certainly don't have "dibs" on the concept. Go for it!

I do try but I cant keep my cover very long, I just get too worked up and Have to say something... yet it does at times payoff.

Part 5

Senator McCain also — he promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest. And as a chief executive, I can assure you it works.
(APPLAUSE)
Our state budget is under control. We have a surplus. And I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending, nearly $500 million in vetoes.
We suspended the state fuel tax and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress, “Thanks, but no thanks,” on that Bridge to Nowhere.
(APPLAUSE)
If our state wanted to build a bridge, we were going to build it ourselves.
(APPLAUSE)
When oil and gas prices went up dramatically and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged: directly to the people of Alaska.
(APPLAUSE)

And despite fierce opposition from oil company lobbyists, who kind of liked things the way that they were, we broke their monopoly on power and resources. As governor, I insisted on competition and basic fairness to end their control of our state and return it to the people.
(APPLAUSE)
I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history.
And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence.
(APPLAUSE)
That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are open, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart.
The stakes for our nation could not be higher. When a hurricane strikes in the Gulf of Mexico, this country should not be so dependent on imported oil that we’re forced to draw from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. And families cannot throw more and more of their paychecks on gas and heating oil.
With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers.
(APPLAUSE)
To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of the world’s energy supplies, or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia, or that Venezuela might shut off its oil discoveries and its deliveries of that source, Americans, we need to produce more of our own oil and gas. And…
(APPLAUSE)
And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: We’ve got lots of both.
(APPLAUSE)

So, I finally feel good about John McCain. It sure wasn't easy,

I saw him go/come down airplane steps in front of his wife.
Being a southern gentlemen I thought he was a rude bastard for not helping his wife come down behind him- she almost tripped.

Then I find out he cant lift his arms over his shoulders to help her because the NVA destroyed his cartilage and muscles with the- tied and bound torture lift over his back-
during his 5 1/2 years in a NVA prison.

Part 6a

Our opponents say again and again that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems, as if we didn’t know that already.
(LAUGHTER)
But the fact that drilling, though, won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.
(APPLAUSE)
Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines, and build more nuclear plants, and create jobs with clean coal, and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need…
(APPLAUSE)
We need American sources of resources. We need American energy brought to you by American ingenuity and produced by American workers.
(APPLAUSE)
And now, I’ve noticed a pattern with our opponent, and maybe you have, too. We’ve all heard his dramatic speeches before devoted followers, and there is much to like and admire about our opponent.
But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or even a reform, not even in the State Senate.
This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting and never use the word “victory,” except when he’s talking about his own campaign.
(APPLAUSE)
But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot…
(APPLAUSE)
… when that happens, what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet?
(APPLAUSE)
The answer — the answer is to make government bigger, and take more of your money, and give you more orders from Washington, and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world.

Yeah, it's a freakin' drag, processing the photos, i will admit that. Taking them is actually the easy part. Getting them online in an entertaining form - that's where the hard work and skill comes in.

America needs more energy; our opponent is against producing it. Victory in Iraq is finally in sight, and he wants to forfeit. Terrorist states are seeking nuclear weapons without delay; he wants to meet them without preconditions.
Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America, and he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights.
(APPLAUSE)

Government is too big; he wants to grow it. Congress spends too much money; he promises more.
Taxes are too high, and he wants to raise them. His tax increases are the fine print in his economic plan.
And let me be specific: The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, and raise payroll taxes, and raise investment income taxes, and raise the death tax, and raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.
(AUDIENCE BOOS)
My sister, Heather, and her husband, they just built a service station that’s now open for business, like millions of others who run small businesses. How are they…
(APPLAUSE)
How are they going to be better off if taxes go up? Or maybe you are trying to keep your job at a plant in Michigan or in Ohio…
(APPLAUSE)
… or you’re trying — you’re trying to create jobs from clean coal, from Pennsylvania or West Virginia.
(APPLAUSE)
You’re trying to keep a small farm in the family right here in Minnesota.
(APPLAUSE)
How are you — how are you going to be better off if our opponent adds a massive tax burden to the American economy?
Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election: In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.
They are the ones whose names appear on laws and landmark reforms, not just on buttons and banners or on self-designed presidential seals.
(APPLAUSE)
Among politicians, there is the idealism of high-flown speech- making, in which crowds are stirringly summoned to support great things, and then there is the idealism of those leaders, like John McCain, who actually do great things.
(APPLAUSE)
They’re the ones who are good for more than talk, the ones that we’ve always been able to count on to serve and to defend America.
Senator McCain’s record of actual achievements and reform helps explain why so many special interests, and lobbyists, and comfortable committee chairmen in Congress have fought the prospect of a McCain presidency from the primary election of 2000 to this very day.
Our nominee doesn’t run with the Washington herd. He’s a man who’s there to serve his country and not just his party, a leader who’s not looking for a fight, but sure isn’t afraid of one, either.

Harry Reid, the majority of the current do-nothing Senate…

BBBBOOOOOOOYYYAAAAHHH!

Political sobriety is hard to summon after knocking back a speech like that. But here goes.

There will not be any epic landslide for McCain. In fact, Obama still has the better chance. Palin's speech improved McCain's chances, as much as any VP speech could have. But that's not all that much. The issue still hangs in the balance.

I'm sold on McCain and I donated more to his campaign tonight, but after hearing some of the speakers at the GOP convention...

I'm disappointed that my fellow GOP see us gays not as equals, but as enemies. Many of us consider ourselves Republicans because we own small businesses, desire lower taxes, believe in school choice, are gun owners and want smaller government.

Palin was unbelievably good and I'm looking forward to McCain.

Part 6 (end)

This world of threats and dangers, it’s not just a community and it doesn’t just need an organizer.
And though both Senator Obama and Senator Biden have been going on lately about how they’re always, quote, “fighting for you,” let us face the matter squarely: There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you.
(APPLAUSE)
There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you in places where winning means survival and defeat means death. And that man is John McCain.
(APPLAUSE)
You know, in our day, politicians have readily shared much lesser tales of adversity than the nightmare world, the nightmare world in which this man and others equally brave served and suffered for their country.
And it’s a long way from the fear, and pain, and squalor of a six-by-four cell in Hanoi to the Oval Office.
But if Senator McCain is elected president, that is the journey he will have made. It’s the journey of an upright and honorable man, the kind of fellow whose name you will find on war memorials in small towns across this great country, only he was among those who came home.
To the most powerful office on Earth, he would bring the compassion that comes from having once been powerless, the wisdom that comes even to the captives by the grace of God, the special confidence of those who have seen evil and have seen how evil is overcome. A fellow…
(APPLAUSE)
A fellow prisoner of war, a man named Tom Moe of Lancaster, Ohio…
(APPLAUSE)
… Tom Moe recalls looking through a pinhole in his cell door as Lieutenant Commander John McCain was led down the hallway by the guards, day after day.
And the story is told, when McCain shuffled back from torturous interrogations, he would turn towards Moe’s door, and he’d flash a grin and a thumbs up, as if to say, “We’re going to pull through this.”
My fellow Americans, that is the kind of man America needs to see us through the next four years.
(APPLAUSE)
For a season, a gifted speaker can inspire with his words. But for a lifetime, John McCain has inspired with his deeds.
If character is the measure in this election, and hope the theme, and change the goal we share, then I ask you to join our cause. Join our cause and help America elect a great man as the next president of the United States.
Thank you, and God bless America. Thank you.
