Democratic Party and Iran Use the Same Talking Points

Thu, Sep 4, 2008 at 8:22:16 am PDT

Americans aren’t the only ones watching this election.

The totalitarian Islamic regime of Iran is also paying close attention, and of course they’re strongly opposed to John McCain—and strongly in favor of Barack Obama. (Courtesy of MEMRI TV.)

Notice that there’s no discernible difference between the Iranian position and the position of the Democratic Party. The talking points are identical.

Click picture to play video. Requires Windows Media Player; Mac users should install Flip4Mac.

Following are excerpts from an interview with Iranian political science professor Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh, which aired on IRIB/Jaam-E Jam 2 TV on September 2, 2008.

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: The difference between Mr. McCain and Mr. Bush is that McCain steps harder on the gas, but he is driving down the same path, and so, there is no difference between them.

[...]

The problem with Mr. Obama is his education. He is a Harvard graduate. The Americans cannot accept him because they consider him an elitist – someone who thinks he is above others, because he is better educated. They don’t understand that his education would enable him to serve them better.

Interviewer: So they will have more money...

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: This would improve the situation in America in general. The flaw they see in Mr. Obama – which they don’t admit – is that he is highly educated and very eloquent. What does he talk so eloquently for?! Mr. McCain, who considers himself such an expert in international politics, still says “Czechoslovakia.”

Interviewer: He doesn’t know that Czechoslovakia was divided?

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: He doesn’t know anything, poor thing. He is terrible. Let me tell you, he’s awful. He doesn’t know the difference between Shiites and Sunnis, yet he wants to resolve the problems in Iraq? He doesn’t know whether Iran is Shiite or Sunni, or the difference between the two.

[...]

Interviewer: Many experts believe that the crises in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine are the Achilles’ heel of America. Therefore, we should ask whether there is any difference between the Democratic and Republican parties with regard to the issue of Iraq. Is there any difference between them?

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: Yes. Mr. Obama’s perspective is more clear. Only yesterday, they transferred control of the Al-Anbar province to the Iraqi government, on the first day of Ramadhan. This is something Mr. Obama has been saying. Mr. Obama has said several times: “Al-Qaeda operates in 80 countries, but we got ourselves entangled in Iraq. Our presence in iraq is what led Al-Qaeda to begin to operate there.” That’s why Mr. Obama and his team... Mr. Biden is a very respectable man. He has a good reputation, and he is respectable and healthy. He has been in the Senate for 36 years, since he was 29. They are more knowledgeable in foreign affairs. True, Obama has no experience, but McCain not only has no experience, but doesn’t even know where “abroad” is. The poor thing is very absent-minded.

Interviewer: McCain has declared that if he is elected, American forces will stay in Iraq 100 years. Based on this, can we draw any conclusion about which party is more likely to win?

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: My problem is that McCain is a war hero, a senior pilot, whose plane crashed in Vietnam and who spent eight and a half years at war. He is a respectable, humane, honest, and patriotic man, but when it comes to foreign policy and domestic affairs, he doesn’t have anything to offer.

[...]

Interviewer: Is the fact that [Palin] is a woman likely to appeal to women, and to arouse feminist sentiment in American society?

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: Definitely. Dr. Kamrava mentioned the question of her experience. I don’t think her husband knows about her experience either. She doesn’t have any experience.

Interviewer: She spent two years as governor of Alaska.

Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: 16 months. She was the mayor of a town of 10,000 residents. The previous governor of Alaska was a very corrupt man, and anybody running against him would have won. That’s how she won.

No. My answer is “no.” Just like Obama is a phenomenon, as I said, Mr. Clinton, with her academic record, her determination, and her expertise in various issues, was outstanding and prominent. She is one of the strongest women in American history. Now, Mrs. Palin – whose name they don’t even pronounce correctly... Will she manage to attract Clinton’s voters? No.

I think Sarah Palin hit the ball out of the park. I don't think it was a grand slam because it was only the first inning with no one on base. However, her delivery was fantastic, her poise considering the amazing amount of pressure she has been under was extraordinary. She delivered the best, organized attack on the left and Obama so far this year. Her comments regarding energy were right on and it demonstrates that she is bringing something to the table besides executive experience (something neither Obama or Biden can). The comments by some of the talking heads that the speech was written for her were just other examples of sexist commentary. Truth is every candidate is scripted, every candidate has speeches written for them. I haven't heard anybody say about the other candidates when asked how was the speech. "Well, of course, her speech was written by a G.W. Bush speech writer but her delivery was amazingly good." As if after the disclaimer at the beginning of the answer lends to the last part of their answer being believable. They would never say that about any of the men in this race.

The left is engaged in a smear campaign of epic proportions. The thing that amazes me is that it is led by ultra liberal women. These are the same women who are feminist and believe equal opportunity for women. They are hypocrits of the highest order because what they really stand for is equal opportunities only for women who think, act and agree with them. The attacks have been dispictable and they represent everything that is wrong with this country. Their anger and vitriol is confusing. They are applying such a high standard to Sarah Palin but are totally remissed in applying that same standard to the top of their ticket. I mean Obama is the least qualified candidate to ever seek the presidency of the USA.

I think the left fears what Sarah stands for, a hard working, strong woman, mother of 5 who believes in moral values such as pro-life, anti-abortion, pro-gun, pro-America, pro-drill, pro-nuclear power plants, substance over glamour, straight talk over political correctness, a Washington outsider who doesn't believe in cronism or corruption, someone who can be fiscally responsible, pro-family...all the things the far left hates. They will do anything to bring this woman down...it is dispictable...

Expect a strong reaction from the left over her speech. They recognize how dangerous Sarah is to their hopes to the presidency. They have determined that if they stop Sarah they stop McCain. At the end of the day, I think this strategy will backfire and there will be a backlash...and it will bring the Obama machine crashing down...

There are a couple more scandals lurking in the wings that are going to cost Obama big time as the election moves along. Here is just one of them:

I do believe every presidential candidate in recent history that has had the endorsement of our enemies has lost. These guys are laying in another torpedo into the side of Obama's battleship. This only assures sinking, because Palin's torpedo was a direct hit on Obama's powder magazine, sending plumes of black smoke out his stack.

33 lawhawk  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 8:35:33am

What'd you expect when the Iranians use the US media outlets for their own oppo-research. They're using the talking points because that's what the media outlets in the US determined to be the most important thing about Gov. Palin.

And when McCain wins, and Palin becomes the VP, the Iranians will have once again misjudged their enemy.

It is as if being a politician disqualifies you to be a politician. In the same twisted logic, Obama cites his experience running his campaign as executive experience thus is qualified to run for the office he's running for. Cognitive Dissonance at its best.

49 suspiria  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 8:41:59am

The two reactions I've seen to Palin so far are abject terror, manifested by hysterical and repulsive attacks, and denial, manifested in dismissive remarks along the lines of "What a poor choice, no experience, etc."

It's nice to see that Governor Palin has so disturbed enemies of America both within and abroad. And ironically, she's done it by displaying more testicular fortitude than a dime-store hustling puppet like B. Hussein Obama.

I watched it on MSNBC. When even Olberman can't trash it, you know it was effective. The MSNBCers all looked crestfallen.

If McRINO has any brains, he'll execute a flip-flop on ANWR & cut her loose to make the energy argument. She's extremely well informed & articulate, and it's the one domestic issue where the GOP outpolls the Dems.

She clearly gives a great speech, and she's been very good in the (albeit softball) interviews I've seen her give. If she can sustain that kind of poise in more hostile surroundings, we'll have our own rockstar to rival the Messiah on the other side. Behold the new face of the GOP.

There were no comments during the speech but when it ended, the commentator came on and said something like (not an exact quote)

We have been eagerly waiting to see how our Governor was presented to the nation. The he added: That was pure Sarah Palin --the Governor we all know and now the whole country knows.

I got the impression she wrote her own speech and delivered it in her own way. Which made it genuine and natural.

Iranian/Democrat strategy - put Palin (and McCain) on Bridge to Nowhere.

Unfortunately for them, Palin has other plans. First kick the Dems out of Washington and then the terrorists out of Iran and the MidEast. They really do have a common enemy.

I agree with Nancy. I watched Sarah Palin's speech on Friday when John McCain introduced her as his running mate. She had her hand-written notes with her for that one. This was very much in the same vein. Perhaps a speech writer brushed it up a little, but I think she wrote that herself - not least because of her delivery. People who are just "delivering" a speech written by someone else don't do it in quite the same way.

CAIR Asks Republican Candidates to 'Avoid Divisive Islamophobic Rhetoric'

In a statement, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

"We urge Senator McCain and Governor Palin to offer inclusive speeches at this week's Republican convention and ask that they both avoid divisive Islamophobic rhetoric. It is all too easy to use hot-button terms to garner votes, but true leaders do not exploit fear or stereotypes for political gain. We hope to hear Senator McCain and Governor Palin say they will defend the civil and religious rights of all Americans, work with the American Muslim community in making our nation both free and secure and help build better relations with the Islamic world."
.....
Awad added that Muslims have called on candidates of all political parties to reject Islamophobia and believe using phrases such as "Islamic terrorism" may unintentionally provide religious legitimacy to terrorists.

I don't think her speech was written for her.

Realistically, of COURSE they would have professional speechwriters involved for this high-profile an event. And there's nothing wrong with that; it's par for the course in today's politics. But this is a far cry from today's liberal talking point of "she just read the speech that was prepared for her"; the speechwriter and orator are BOTH intimately involved in preparing the text; and it has to be fundamentally "hers" in order for her to deliver it well. And we all know how she scored on THAT.

The Dems can be shut down on this talking point with the following simple question: "Do either Obama or Biden write their own speeches, with no help from professional speechwriters?" [crickets]

I am genuinely worried about the so called troopergate the MSM is trying to cast as an abuse of power by Palin. An Alaska legislature liberal is heading up the investigation, which doesn't bode well, and we all know how when Republicans are accused they are guilty, but when Democrats are accused they are being swiftboated. Brian Ross of ABC news is talking it up as an October surprise and likely a damaging report. CLUE; I'm sure that's what he's hoping.
All I have read about it shows she was perfectly legal and justified in her actions. Actually the rogue trooper is still working, it was his boss who was canned, and his job is at the Governor's convenience. No abuse of power exists.
The MSM is going to spin this into something it's not, I fear.

The attacks have been dispictable and they represent everything that is wrong with this country. Their anger and vitriol is confusing. They are applying such a high standard to Sarah Palin but are totally remissed in applying that same standard to the top of their ticket. I mean Obama is the least qualified candidate to ever seek the presidency of the USA..."

This doesn't surprise me anymore. It was women that went after Martha Stewart the worst. Perhaps lack of self confidence and self esteem from those women in particular drive the train that makes them hate the women that succeed?

144 Nancy  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 9:01:55am

Sure, the attack that she might of used a prepared speech is absurd on it's face.

I thought of the irony that prior to last night she was being denigrated as a lightweight from a small hick town who could never hold her own with the "real powers" and today as I browsed some of the media coverage and negative comments were she is: too aggressive, too "mean-spirited" and heaven forbid she dared to "attack" her adversaries and opponents!

It might be a little embarrassing to report the similarities between statements coming out of the DNC and terrorist organizations when just about every news outlet is saying the same thing. Shared talking points - almost word for word. I guess, in addition to CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, MSNBC, NYT, LAT, WaPo, AP, AFP, Rueters and all the other MSM outlets, BHO also has Osama bin Laden, and nearly every Islamist or totalitarian regime in the world on his distro list. 184 CanadianBacon  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 9:08:58am

Once McCain got the nod for candidate, I was in favour of Condi Rice as running mate. I figured she had the credentials and the capacity to make a great VP, plus she'd take some of the wind out of the Dems' sails with their novelty appeal ("vote BO - he's black!"). Plus, I thought that the first woman with a real chance of winning on merit would be a historically appropriate action for the GOP.

Rice's continued demurrals had me scared: McCain's choices before the Palin announcement were safe and safer, but not exciting enough to make a headline anywhere. Sarah sure changed that.

It would appear that the GOP has a winning ticket; nothing the progressives can come up with to attack the ticket ad hominum will stand any reasonable thought, and (we hope) all the skeletons are out in the open now. From this point on, it should be about the issues and positions.

Energy independence and alternatives research. Support for the war against islamofascism. Economic strength through federal fiscal restraint, reduced tax loading, and entrepreneurial encouragement. Support for American values. Recognition that there is no moral equivalency; proud that our civilization is flawed but superior to any other yet devised. These are the issues that need to be aired, not whether McCain is too old and Palin too young.

McCain/Palin is a ticket to real change, real hope.

The polls is supposed to reflect the general population. If there are 100 men and 1 woman and you poll an equal amount you can get a 50/50 split. As long as the % of dems in the poll is equal to the % of dems in the country is should be accurate. However, if these polls are conducted during business hours what is the quality of the respondents? I agree with Nancy. I watched Sarah Palin's speech on Friday when John McCain introduced her as his running mate. She had her hand-written notes with her for that one. This was very much in the same vein. Perhaps a speech writer brushed it up a little, but I think she wrote that herself - not least because of her delivery. People who are just "delivering" a speech written by someone else don't do it in quite the same way.

Yep - thats my take on it as well - and i've only been able to watch her in retrospect, as it were.
That was no specch, written by someone else and learned by heart - that speech was her, all the way through.
A bit of polishing - yes, sure, and why not! After all, its not exactly a small private occasion she was speaking to!
Oh - and you could see from her gestures that it was her own speech, not something written for her. She came across as natural, not as an actor, like that B0.

I have been polled a number of times over the years. There are a couple of polls that you can actually sign up with. I believe Rasmussen is one of those. I've been a TV ratings household 3 or 4 times. I used to be selected for focus groups about every third day when we lived near a mall that conducted them. (I was one of the folks that sent Titanic back to be redone here and there.) And I've had more than a few phone call type polls - though none since I started paying attention to the caller ID.

I don't think it has anything to do with registration. The polling places you sign up with online ask you about party affiliation along with everything else.

I hope you're right. Question is, will the information get to the voters? Remember, not everyone reads LGF. I'm waiting for the day-to-day polls. I realize the ship's primary purpose is command & control, and it has all sort of high-tech communications and surveillance wizardry stuffed into it; but I'm surprised by how lightly armed it is.

The command ship has to defend itself against small boats and cruise missiles. It projects power through a distributed network. Think of the LCC as a floating officer. Officers carry sidearms as a badge. They do not intend to spend their time shooting at close quarters with a pistol. A Naval Officer's weapon is his ship. The Admiral's weapon is his Task Force. An infantry captain once told me that his weapon was the radio. He would get rid of his sidearm in a patrol since it was most likely to identify him and get him shot. He wore it on base but didn't expect to draw it. As he said to me, "... if I ever had to shoot anybody that meant they'd broken through the perimeter and we were in a world of shit."

Love gunnery, want more of it.

Interesting. Of course, an aircraft carrier is the best type of vessel for carrying several crates of cargo.

It's not an aircraft carrier (unfortunately). See my post a little upthread; it's a C&C ship, pretty lightly armed.

But, FWIW, this is Stratfor's analysis of overall conventional balance of naval/air power in the Black Sea:

At present, the West also has overall superior military power in the Black Sea. By controlling the Dardanelles, the formidable U.S. and Turkish navies control the sea’s entrance as well as its waters. Turkish and U.S. air forces also have presence in the region. The U.S. air force has a hub in the southern Turkish air base at Incirlik, and airfields in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania could easily host decisive airpower from any number of NATO member countries, which could be used to establish air superiority over the entire sea and devastate the Russian naval presence. Turkey’s air force is also well-drilled and well-equipped. Modern weapons systems such as submarine- and ship-launched cruise missiles and carrier-launched jets would be able to target the very heart of Russia once the supremacy of the Black Sea was assured.

To use an aerial combat analogy, McCain and Palin are flying well inside of Obama's OODA Loop. Seeing the Democrats' confusion and panic as they know that they are in the crosshairs, does my heart good.

Obama keeps thinking he has McCain in his OODA loop.

heh.

Our enemies get all their talking points from the Democrats.

Osama bin Laden himself had Democratic speech writers when he gave some of his worst attacks against America (as he spoke of Bush letting people die in the Twin Towers by not rushing up the stairs to save them because he was reading a book to children.)

Endorsements from Hamas and Iran are expected for the Democrats.

Our enemies are evil but they aren't stupid. They know that the Democrats serve their interests better than any Republicans could possibly do.

It wasn't a problem for me, but I find the mouse moves when I click, and it isn't due to recoil.
Fortunately for the up/down dings, I usually have the problem with vertical movement.
I'll have to practice more, by trying to find the one or two pixel wide spots in Server 2008 (aka Vista for Servers) that let you resize columns in windows explorer.

Most mouse software you can adjsut the sensitivity. At slow speeds you can set it to move in very small increments, and high speeds large jumps.

I have a track ball, I do CAD work. At slow speeds an inch of movement is about 10 pixels. Fast the same movement is half way across one monitor.

The problem is that I move the mouse when I click; I think that is due to the wobble. (Cheap mice)

Looks like Sen. John is going to be renamed McPain in the butt to these islamic terrorists and their supporters. Not surprising that the dems and the islamic terrorists and their apologists have the same talking points, that has been the case since the distribution of the Rockefeller (Sen. Jay Traitor) Memorandum in 2003. As for the commentator's ignorant belief that anyone would have won against Murkowski, or would have become governor in his place due to his corruption (one has to wonder why these anti corruption people don't win in the muslim world since it is apparent that anyone should be able to win against corrupt politicians-but I digress)
why would the winner be Sarah Palin and not the former dem Governor Knowles, whom the Sarahcuda defeated handily? Nothing but crickets.
I am glad that these scum suckers are worried and that they know their attempts to hide their jihadi activities from the public by pc euphemisms won't work with McCain/Palin although the dhimmicrats have drunk the apologists' koolaid.

351 annefrance  Fri, Sep 5, 2008 10:55:13pm

My goodness, have I touched a sensitive chord, or what? I am very impressed by the bunch of you, who for the most part could barely manage more than a hearty "fuck you" [but hats off to the fellow who sent the "frak you" comment, although I cannot possibly imagine any of the lot of you appreciating the nuance and subtlety of BSG]. The few who could string a few words together generally opined they were "pro-life, but could make an exception for me." Not a single one of you expressed the slightest compassion or concern for Bristol – never mind outrage - for her plight. Now, I recognize the concern I expressed was for a private law issue (reproductive rights of a teenager), and the lot of you are too much in a froth over the ascension of Sarah to pay attention or even care one whit as to what the likely outcome will be for that child. Fine, then.
But the bigger question then is why you care so little for the outcome for the Republican Party itself? Do you not care about the governance of your nation? Do you find it amusing when Professor Fardanesh can reasonably and fairly observe, as an outsider, that maybe this was a choice that will appeal to discerning voters? That perhaps a more substantial life of public service would be better evidence of the legitimacy of the candidate?
It strikes me you are just thrilled peachy to have your own celebrity candidate, a veritable Obama in whiteface (so to speak): it's the same deal, in my view; little experience, lots of charm, short on substance. And, thank Jesus, minus the intellect. But of course, the folks attracted to the Republican Party in recent years seem to be proud of their anti-intellectualism. Makes me wonder why you flock to this site, which is supposed to be anti-idiotarian, no? I notice that Charles has to keep reminding the lizards to stop asking him to back down on the "creationism debate" - as if there is a debate!
With all due respect, you have lost the true values that made the Republican Party, and the Conservative movement, so grand in years gone by: separation of Church and state, small government kept out of the nation's bedrooms (and hence outside women's wombs), a government that values and cherishes its military (and doesn't care if soldiers are straight, as long as they shoot straight), a government that values its children getting an education (and that means evolution in the classroom, and condoms for teens to prevent teen pregnancy).
I don't understand how or why or when religious affiliation became a justification to hijack secular government, but you better not complain when the jihadis try to impose the ummah on y'all, because you are no better than they: religious warriors seeking to overturn civil government, to impose your pretty uncharitable and aggressive theocratic values on one and all.
One last point: although I am not French, my French maternal grandfather fought and died in the French resistance in World War II. So not only should y'all piss off royally, but you should keep in mind there are more war heroes on this green Earth than the ones portrayed on the Military Channel.

BTW, changing the subject several times in your tedious and incoherent rant won't make anyone forget what you said in your last post.

Fine, then.

I suppose in your world, 'caring one whit' means killing Bristol's baby while in the womb, sparing you and your fellow travelers the anguish of seeing a teenage girl and her partner take responsibility for their choices and bring their baby into the world. "Reproductive rights" apparently, are only relevant when the lives of babies are terminated.

The only ones outraged are people like you who consider Bristol's pregnancy a "plight".

And I'd love to know what you perceive as the 'likely outcome' for her child. Seems to me that the baby will be born into a loving and supportive family.

Posting on a dead thread is chicken shit...bring your toys, a sack lunch and come play in a live sandbox.
You present yourself as a pompous elitist who has all of the answers for our country. I pray we never follow your countries lead when it comes to dealing with social, economic and religious acceptance issues. 1. Your description of the "true values" of the Republican Party and of conservatism is bizarre. But I would expect no less from a leftist; you have been brainwashed to think that you know everything and that noone with a functional brain could hold different opinions. Nuance? Don't make me laugh. Your posts show unreflective dogmatism and an inability to consider alternative viewpoints.

2. There is a great deal of sympathy for Miss Palin here, but (at the risk of putting words in other lizards' mouths) I think most of us think that screaming about how evil her mother is probably is not the best way to lend the girl moral support. No, we figure she will be best served if everybody just shuts up, backs off, and leaves her a modicum of privacy. I am saving my outrage for the media, and for people like you, who refuse to leave the girl alone. You seem to think that the only respectable option for a pregnant teen is abortion. How backward - now it's the "pro-choice" people who think it's a horrid scandal if a teen has a baby.

3. Why shouldn't we be pleased that the Republican VP candidate has charisma? It's a useful ability. And she may be a relative newcomer, but so is the Democrat who hopes to be president in a few months - and unlike him, she's actually been doing the job she was last elected to, not just using it as a platform to run for higher office.

4. If Sen. Obama can be called an intellectual, then I need no further justification for being anti-intellectual. The man is an empty suit. He invariably says stupid things when not reading from a script, and tells lies that are easy to disprove by a glance at the public record.

5. We have expressed great contempt for you because you dropped in and wrote truly vicious things in a deliberately offensive manner. Very few of us bothered to try arguing with you because you ran away and hid, and there's no point arguing with thin air. And now you creep in to a long-dead thread (not even the same thread as before) to call us names and write rambling sneers. Somehow, I'm not impressed.

You have neither brains nor guts.

Concern for Bristol? It came across as thinking abortion was what she should have done, not support for her choice.
And this shows just because someone is a resistance fighter, his good qualities don't always get inherited.
