I just read where Annette Benning (Mrs. Warren Beatty) savaged Gov. Palin. She's just so relevant I'm wavering. NOT.

I'll take an order of Cindy McCain, and one true grit order of John, please.

It's another good line-up. I hope McCain does well. They're going to make him out to be old and doddering and in the shadow of his running mate.

I hope he does the same thing she did. Talk about it, make fun of them for bringing it up and move on. So all they do when they try to slime is confirm their bias.

I can't wait to hear what McCain has to say, and I'm looking forward to hearing his wife Cindy speak!

So apparently Republicans hate community organizers. A reader sends me a pithy response:

What movie? I don't think she's been in anything successful since American Beauty. Long time.

The Hollywood Left is very entrenched and they're very powerful. There's a real blacklist here and I admire any actor/writer/producer/director who has the courage to throw it all to chance and stand up to them.

Warren Beatty and John McCain were friendly in the past, don't know about now.

Beatty's movie "Bullfeathers" or something similar, was supposedly about a maverick candidate.

McCain's got to have a sense of humor about all his former best buds liberals (except Lieberman) doing a 180 degree turn, trying to bury him & his candidacy and his Veep choice today.

Be Strong, Johnny Mac! The Libs only pretended to respect you, while they used you first--now they want you gone.

It's funny. With every new announcement from the MSM/lefties, I like the Palins more. I can identify with almost every thing that is announced: out of wedlock pregnancy? I was born a bastard (and eventually adopted), and I do have family members who were "knocked up" and then married. DUI? I had one eons ago (one of the reasons I don't drink and haven't for decades). Working class? Land of Goshen - my parents were the first generation of their families to go to college. Mr. Palin is part Yupik? My mom was part Choctaw. Down syndrome? I had a job in college working with developmentally challenged young people - found out that being smart is not the end-all and be-all and that my clients almost always had much more common sense than I did. Religion? My father's side of the family is Catholic, as am I. On my mom's side, I have a cousin who, with her husband and large family, spent a decade in Africa as a missionary. Large family? Did I mention I'm Catholic? :D

Shall I continue?

And trust me, I am not the only one.

First of all -- if the press tries to make a big deal out of Westmoreland's stupidity then McCain's team needs to pull Wright back out from under the bus. Westy isn't associated with McCain and didn't endorse him in the primaries. Wright is one of Obama's mentors.

Second of all -- I love the bounce, but I have to say that McCain's going to have to win by a big margin. The dems are going to go all out to register the dead, double register the college kids and slash the tires of the busses that will take Republicans to the polls. It's going to get ugly. If the margin is big enough they can't steal it. But they will try with all their might.

Third of all -- bless and protect the police in Minneapolis tonight when things get really ugly.

I was making a small joke. This afternoon I could hardly believe my ears when I heard Geraldine Ferraro conclude her interview with one of the FOX talking heads (on the subject of Sarah's speech last night) with this very question ! Did anyone else hear the interview ? She said:
"One wonders why a good mother would have her young children out at that late hour..." (or very close to this).

If Mac's speech outlines his exact policy initiatives in 100 pages with 850 bullets, the Obama campaign will still come out tomorrow with a response claiming that the McCain campaign still isn't addressing the issues: what he'll do about gas prices and the economy, and how to get jobs back.

Last night Hannity screened a Donk fundraising letter, claiming that if McCain is elected, "he will outlaw abortions" - unilaterally, no doubt.

I was infuriated when Hannity didn't respond to this particular piece of talking point trash. But how in hell do they get away with this bilge? Rushbo is right: we're not running McCain against Obama, we're running McCain against the MSM.

Roger L. Simon had a great analogy this morning.

He said the Governor Palin speech last night was "Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington."

------------------

There are Sarah jokes going around much like the Fred Thompson jokes during his campaign. The quote you give has already been amended to:

"Mrs. Smith & Wesson goes to Washington."

Also there is this one:

"Sarah doesn't do her laundry, she disembowels it."

156 goddessoftheclassroom  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 3:34:12pm

Does anyone have verification of this?

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech.
Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.
Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.

I want so much to believe it...

That project was earmarked BEFORE she was governor. Her "support" to BUILD it is being blown way out of proportion.

Here's the basic timeline and her statement of SUPPORT when asked during her campaign FOR governor.

Sarah Palin did not become Governor until 2006. But she did initially support the project during her campaign for governor.

The Funding for it was approved BEFORE 2005 because the Bill below was to DEFUND it in 2005

October 20, 2005 --Today, Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) will offer an amendment to the Senate’s appropriation bill to transfer the $223 million that Congress had previously approved for a bridge in Ketchikan, Alaska, to fund reconstruction of a hurricane-damaged bridge in Louisiana. Dubbed the “Bridge to Nowhere,”
[Link: www.heritage.org...]

On Oct. 22, 2006, the Anchorage Daily News asked Palin and the other candidates, “Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?”

Her response: “Yes. I would like to see Alaska’s infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now — while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.”

Palin spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said that as projected costs for the Ketchikan bridge rose to nearly $400 million, administration officials were telling Ketchikan that the project looked less likely. Local leaders shouldn't have been surprised when Palin announced she was turning to less-costly alternatives, Leighow said. Indeed, Leighow produced a report quoting Palin, late in the governor's race, indicating she would also consider alternatives to a bridge.

She ran for office for the first time in 1992 at age 28, when she won a seat on the Wasilla City Council, defeating a local telephone company worker, 530 to 310 votes, on a promise to bring "my progressive, competitive attitude" to government, according to a regional newspaper, the Frontiersman.

She became Mayor of Wassila at age 32. As mayor from 1996 to 2002, Palin slashed property tax rates by 75 percent and built roads and sewer and water lines which increased the economy of the town.

Following Mayor she served on the State Oil and Gas Commission (a paid job) and resigned because of what she believed were ethical violations.

In 2006, Palin was elected governor, after gaining prominence for challenging the state Republican Party chairman, whom she accused of doing political work while serving on a state oil and gas commission.

"Sarah Palin's speech last night told us a lot about her. It told us she can distort the facts and deliver mean-spirited zingers with the best of them. But it didn’t tell us the truth about Sarah Palin’s extremist positions. And the more that people know her far-right views, the less they support her. Can you write a letter to the editor of your local paper?"

Tough, Moveon. I loved the speech and everything in it. Why don't you sponsor a letter writing campaign to critique the nastiness toward her family? Why is the media is doing its damndest to minimize Obama's relationships with Rezko and Ayers while they lambaste a seventeen year old girl and call that "fair game"? THAT is truly mean-spirited, if you ask me.

I'll use your form to send a letter but it's not the one you want.

I am sick of Moveon.org and their manipulations. I will encourage everyone to use this form to talk about the bravery of the Palin family in the face of an ugly hostile press and how Governor Palin's experience trumps Obama's in every meaningful way.

As for the Governor's view on energy independence, I support it whole-heartedly. We do need to expand our oil production here and unlike those at moveon.org, I refuse to think that American corporations are evil doers bent on destroying the planet.

As for Palin, her tax-cutting, corruption busting credentials are right up my alley.

Thanks for the opportunity to use MoveOn's form to work against their cause."

My letter on MoveOn's form

re: #176 kynna

The Politico (the noxious blog from WaPo) says this didn't happen. Of course the guy is saying he didn't see it happen which means it never, ever happened at any time during the speech. Stupid.

I despise The Politico. It's so leftist it's unbelievable. And the commenters are HuffPo all over the place.

Can't have the little lady show up the Messiah, just ain't proper now.

Now age 44 --the first woman, first mother and first grandmother Vice President. Not to mention probably the first Vice President to be a Native American!

Small correction -- Sarah's husband Todd's family is the Native American branch of the family.

I wonder what the odds are that the AP hack (espo, I think) who reviewed Palin's speech before she gave it last night will do the same for McCain's speech tonight. I'd like to say that nobody could be that stupid twice, but I've been proven wrong again and again recently...

re: #180 Tamron

LOL! You had me scratching my head there.

BTW, does anyone else hate the term, "Native American?" I was born in this country and I am a "Native American." I don't have a drop of aboriginal blood in me.

Don't most "Native Americans" prefer the non-PC term "Indians" themselves?

Inuit before you said it.

Gotta leave for a while, but I can see where this is headed.

Has there ever been even a "first-spouse" that was Native American?
I cannot recall Native American links, of any sort, any time.

Concentrate on your homework, I'll be back in an hour.

Yes, that's what I meant to say.....first VP married to a Native American.
Good thing you caught it.

re: #184 neocon hippie

Yes.
I grew up "on the wrong side of the tracks", before PC was even invented, and my friends were offended when "Indian" was said and the meaning was "India Indian". They all felt that the clarification was required. And yes, it was a different angle of racism.

re: #185 Ojoe

Yes, it's always the "peace" protesters that are the most violent. I saw one young lady out there with an infant on her hip. I was horrified to see a baby at such a place and deeply hope that she will not be around if/when someone starts a fight.

re: #184 neocon hippie

Yes, Indians call themselves Indians among themselves and not Native Americans.

And someone corrected my mistake I had meant to say her spouse.
It was his grandmother who was Inuit.

New boring scandal, via hotair: Gov. Palin went to five colleges in six years, says AP. Another thing to identify with - I went to four in five years. Good way to see the country. I spent a year in New Orleans and one in San Francisco. :D

re: #184 neocon hippie

Of course it was the government who came up with Native American at the time when "Black" changed to African American.

I agree, those of us born here are all Native Americans.

I am not a registered tribal member but I have family who are. And Indian is what they use among themselves.

In fact my favorite bumper sticker is:
"I was Indian before it was cool."

Also, any of you think BHO decided to appear on O'Reilly tonight--of all nights--is just a coincidence?

The Fox crew threw last night's GOP speakers to the curb last night too, with Hannity & Colmes yapping their same stale talking points with Fox pundits, didn't they? The grandpa rabbit and I would've missed Mitt entirely if we hadn't quickly switched over to MSNBC ::throws up a little::

Holy Cow! David Cappiello is speaking at the Convention now- 7:21pm- his parents jewelry store is down the street from me. 'Diamond Dave' is running for Congress in the hotly contested 5th district! Knock out the libs Davey!

Ah, there we have it. Some DNC talking suit telling us that McCain isn't "change" because he voted with Bush 90% of the time.

Waiting for, "the same failed policies of Bush"

I saw that headline as well. Shook my head and rolled my eyes. First and most obvious thought which would enter most people's head is: MONEY.

Her family was not wealthy and it has been reported that she entered the beauty pageant for the scholarship. She came in 2 --in the Miss Alaska and got a scholarship. Her talent was the Flute.

Was just flipping channels. On CNBC Larry kudlow had Ann Coulter on and some lefty. Even Ann says we may have found our new Reagan. Kudlow was talking about Palin a while ago. How come CNBC makes a lot more sense than NBC and MSnbc. Aren't they run by the same people?

IDK why, except that they're financially oriented. I see Pat (see, we really are xenophobic racist) Buchanan is on MessNBC as their token conservative. Very nice.

I just heard some reporter actually threaten the McCain campaign. Essentially his message was kiss our ass or we'll write nasty shit about you.

Bring it on ink boy!

Fox has Juan Williams, Mort Kondrake, and the Skeletor as "prominent" liberals. Well over half of the females on that network are also liberals.

Who exactly are the liberals afraid of on Fox? Brit Hume?

Kos and MoveOn is who they're afraid of. The looney left doesn't control FSN.

Sheesh!

I just say promo with a clip of David Letterman talking to that moron Dr. Phil saying, "...don't you think a mother would take five minutes to discuss birth control with her teenage daughter?"

What an a**hole! Who says she didn't? Since when do teenagers with hormones always listen to their parents?

The gall of that idiot! I'm a Hoosier too but he's been gone way too long. I never watch his show anymore because he's such an a**.
Just like Evan Bayh has become such a jerk since he went to DC.

It's like they want to fit in with the "popular" crowd so they act like them and dump all the things they know are right.

It just burns me that they're so stupid.

Ugh!

NYT Hypocrisy (Redundant)

Where is it written that only senators are qualified to become
President?...
Or where is it written that mere representatives aren't qualified, like
Geraldine Ferraro of Queens?... Where is it written that governors and
mayors, like Dianne Feinstein of San Francisco, are too local, too
provincial?... Presidential candidates have always chosen their running
mates for reasons of practical demography, not idealized democracy.... What a splendid system, we say to ourselves, that takes little-known men, tests them in high office and permits them to grow into statesmen.... Why shouldn't a little-known woman have the same opportunity to grow?... [T]he indispensable credential for a Woman Who [sic] is the same as for a Man Who [sic] - one who helps the ticket.
- New York Times Editorial, July 3, 1984.

If Mr. McCain wanted to break with his party's past and choose the
Republicans' first female vice presidential candidate, there are a number
of politicians out there with far greater experience and stature than Ms.
Palin, who has been in Alaska's Statehouse for less than two years.
Before she was elected governor, she was mayor of a tiny Anchorage suburb, where her greatest accomplishment was raising the sales tax to build a hockey rink. According to Time magazine, she also sought to have books banned from the local library and threatened to fire the librarian.

Bill Frist? He shouldn't have been allowed to speak, given that McCain was going to say that the Republicans lost their way during his leadership.
