The mainstream media keeps telling us that the Obama campaign is much more “Internet savvy” than the McCain campaign—but the DNC didn’t have a high quality live web feed like this one. The RNC’s Ustream feed is actually about seven seconds ahead of C-SPAN on my local cable channel.

Charles, you got mad skilz.

I believe the McCain team has picked up some young, fresh blood that has a much better clue about PR and the net than the dems have given him credit for.

DNC doens't have Jack on you, Charles. Remember, they are into secrecy and did their damnedest to keep a real vote from their constituents. RNC is much more open, tolerant, and accepting than the slime-ball tactics displayed in Denver at the DNC.

Yes, the party of stodginess somehow is better with technology.

Most of us can actually formulate a sentence that is not profane, blasphemous, obscene or scatological. That means that we're rigid and not terribly creative.

This also means that most Republicans solve problems, rather than whining.

This is why the Republican convention has streaming video.

The 27 year old Republican speaking earlier had a great line... "When I was helping my constituents, I was asked a lot -- Why are you doing this? I would always answer, I am doing this because THIS is what my party, the Republican party is all about... giving a leg up, not a hand out!"

He was also quite a good speaker, I was rather impressed. I can see him going far in the next 20 years...

51 Luigi  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 4:39:37pm

Keep in mind when you watch O'Reilly with Obama that this is a brokered deal:

[Link: www.guardian.co.uk...]

It is unheard of for a major network to give the opposing candidate an hour to sound off directly before the other candidate's speech on the night of his convention. Has this ever happened before? It speaks to a prostrate position for Fox before Obama's power. I suspect Murdoch is afraid that as things stand now he will suffer somehow if Obama wins. Obama's team are just the guys to make that happen.

O'Reilly won't be at his usual power-desk where he can wag his finger with such aplomb. They will be in a neutral setting.

I predict O'Reilly will provide a political performance that he thinks will keep his base happy, but have us come away with a 'grudging respect' for Obama. I bet O'Reilly will have him describe his experience as a community organizer without ever mentioning that he worked for Acorn.

Just one more thing before I have to run. Unfortunately.

Rush said today that the National Inquirer is in the hands of a friend of President Clinton and Hillary. He said this in the context of the Inquirer having a crew in Alaska to dig up dirt on Sarah. However, it also may explain the motivation for destroying Edwards as a possible vp pick, leaving the way clear for Hillary.

From Victory Hanson today

[Link: pajamasmedia.com...]

This all reminds me of the 2000 campaign when the media beat the dead-horse of Bush (Yale BA, Harvard MBA) as the lousy, lazy C-student, when, in fact, Al Gore’s undergraduate record at Harvard was full of C’s, F’s at Vanderbilt Divinity School (dropped out), and C’s at Vanderbilt Law School (dropped out). The point is not that quitting professional schools is necessarily a sign of anything, but rather once again that the media is shown to be bending and inventing facts for their higher purposes of liberal utopianism— a continuation of some half a century when we remember the “dumb” Ike floundering before the “brilliant” and “witty” Adlai Stevenson (who flunked out of Harvard Law School, a fact hidden from the public for decades.)

The only good thing that could possibly come of this is that people will see the vapid, empty rhetoric emanating from Obama and then compare it to the solid, strong words of John McCain.

McCain's experience, intelligence, and the wisdom that comes with age will stand in stark contrast to any of Barack's weak, scripted talking points.

As he realizes that Palin has pulled a Mola Ram on both Keith and Chris. She would have absolutely crushed those two nitwits, and taken all the steam out of the Obama spectacle as well.

The lesson is the extraordinary tolerance that we exhibit on America. Extraordinary resources are spent to ensure safety when in most countries the public security forces would just surround, beat down and execute. Has anyone here spoken with combat veterans who stood there and smiled at screaming girls who threatened and spat at them? What you will remember is how proud the servicemen are at being able to go through that and know what they were fighting for.

re: #232 neocon hippie

there's no such thing as objective storytelling

This is, in fact, true. Every story requires selecting some things and not selecting others.

The Left likes to elevate this fact and conclude that it can therefore do anything it likes when it comes to stories. If there is no objective story, then you are free spin as hard as you can, and no one has any basis on which to object.

What they utterly ignore is that some stories are more objective than others because they control for subjective spin. That is, some storytellers actually make an effort to sort out spin from fact, and hew to the factual side of things, even when it contravenes their ideological preferences. i>That is being "objective."

Objectivity never exists purely. That doesn't mean some stories are not more objective than others.

This, the Left would like you never to think about.

Thanks for filling me in... here's some more of that "nuance",

“I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated,” Obama said while refusing to retract his initial opposition to the surge. “I’ve already said it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.” However, he added, the country has not had enough “political reconciliation” and Iraqis still have not taken responsibility for their country.

So it worked, but nobody knew it would work, but it didn't work, so he was still right to be against it because it didn't work except it did work but nobody knew it would work.

I hope all us rubes in bitter-clingin' country can grasp that higher level thinkin' the Big O does. We're really not worthy of him...

Then instead of owning up to his poor decisions, he tries to cover his a**. Obama only sounds smart. But get him off-script, and press him, and his intellect crumples like wet styrofoam.

Emerson (or was it William James) once said, "intelligence is knowing what to do when you don't know what to do." I have no faith in Obama's intellectual fitness. I have every faith in McCain's and Palin's.

Yes, the party of stodginess somehow is better with technology.

Most of us can actually formulate a sentence that is not profane, blasphemous, obscene or scatological. That means that we're rigid and not terribly creative.

This also means that most Republicans solve problems, rather than whining.

JFK was so popular that he virtually killed the hat industry in this country. His eschewing of a hat--which until then had been considered standard wear for men--caused them to drop out of fashion.

Absolutely true, Kennedy refused to wear a hat at his inauguration. Similarly Clark Gable took off his shirt in "It Happened One Night" and after that men wouldn't be caught dead wearing an undershirt. Thousands of jobs lost.

I am not talking about Muslims I am talking about Islam (specifically the doctrines and directives of Mohammad). From the West's point of view (those infidels that know the teachings of Mohammad) a good Muslim is one who does not follow Islam's doctrines.

You didn't ask me about a fringe segment of a religion of billions who beleive to the letter the "doctrines and directives of Mohammad", you asked me if "Islam" is. I'm Catholic, and I don;'t beleive ver betum the "doctrines and directives of the Old and New Testaments". If I did, my son would have been stoned years ago! Maybe Hamas has been on the phones again.

I'd like to know what McCain got due to 0bama's speech. I think lizards alone probably gave $1000. ($88 or so for me, the day after 0's speech, included some merchandise, like buttons, bumper stickers, and a hat, as well as an additional donation)
And we don't have a lot to give.
BTW, last week, the Boston Globe said that Robert Kraft, owner of the Patriots, is a big McCain supporter, and didn't give money to 0. But then, Kraft is also a big supporter of Israel; see how G-d rewards him with a great team.

There's a difference between those who believe in Creation and those who believe that the Earth is 6000 years old and man rode dinosaurs.

/I sort of remember you said pretty much that yourself

It's not a matter of believing in creation, it's a matter of teaching it. Or, in this case, championing the removal of questions about "macro-evolution" from a state exam.

Brownback:

The great and bold statement that the Kansas School Board made was that simply that we observe micro-evolution and therefore it is scientific fact; and that it is impossible to observe macro- evolution, it is scientific assumption ...

That link, BTW, provides an excellent example of how seemingly neutral language can be understood by different people to achieve opposing goals. It's a fascinating read.

Half of New Yorkers Believe US Leaders Had Foreknowledge of Impending 9-11 Attacks and “Consciously Failed” To Act; 66% Call For New Probe of Unanswered Questions by Congress or New York’s Attorney General, New Zogby International Poll Reveals

The poll is the first of its kind conducted in America that surveys attitudes regarding US government complicity in the 9/11 tragedy. The polls do not mean much until the week before. That is when the pollsters start looking at likely voters and try to get the percentages from each group evenly represented. They all want to come close on election night. (From Rush)

I was surprised, O'Reilley was actually kind of tough on him.
He really pushed him to say that he was wrong on the Surge.
What he got was Obama saying that 'It was successful beyond anybody's wildest dreams".(O'Reilley should have said , not the people that supported it)
Obama then went on to diminish the troops by talking about the "Sunni Awakening."

For pure trivia, I'd like to know if she has a pilot's license.
I think I remember somebody saying 65% of Alaskans have a private plane license.

I heard that she did, and that her family owns a seaplane.

Seaplanes are sweet.

814 opnion  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 6:16:46pm

the problem is that they used the A list speakers last night, partiucularly Sarah Palin. The bullpen ain't gettin it.

824 pingjockey  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 6:17:35pm

Good God! What was the RNC thinking?! This is not whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Plus they're putting me into a rather PO'd mood. RNC speech planning was hijacked by dolts.

825 PatrioticNaturalizedAmerican  Thu, Sep 4, 2008 6:17:35pm

I think they should have hired a far out leftist to make a speech, so that the crowd could practice booing, and it probably would be entertaining.

With no wings.

Only the F-15 was reported to have landed with only one Wing attached. If I remember correctly it was a IAF-plane.

Ten years ago my wife and I took the motorcycle to Red Rocks and attended a Thorogood concert.
We got totally happy (brought our own booze, sat in a crowd of pot smokers), and camped out that evening.

It's not just the speakers, who, even when they try, just don't have the "presence" of Fred, Rudy, and Sarah. The crowd too just isn't as electrified tonight as they were last night. But that may change when McCain himself takes the stage.

Brownback is another creationist.
It really sucks that the Republican party is so infatuated with pseudo-science.

Creationism has no possibility of ever being accepted as science, and its adherents do not even claim that it is a science. They are not infatuated with pseudo-science but rather with religion.
What really sucks is the zealotry of the DI whacko fringe which leads them to insist on the absolute truth of their delusional fantasies and to seek to limit and disrupt the constitutionally protected educational rights of the vast majority.

The One cannot be put into question!

Anything that threatens to upset His coronation to His rightful place On High as The One True Prophet and Savior shall be fought against with the vim and vigor of 144,000 screaming angels. He shall lower the oceans, rid the planet of pollution, war, pestilence, famine and Republicans. (hiss) He shall heal the sick, feed the poor, lift up the weak. He will create peace in the world, disarm His enemies with a wave of His mighty hand, end crime, and bring joy to the downtrodden. You will fall in line, post blog messages proclaiming your undying love and adoration for The Great King On High Barack Hussein Obama! Do this and you will know peace in your heart, mind and community. Do it not and you shall be aborted from the womb of protection that The One can provide you! Sinner! Heretic! If you still refuse to kiss The One's ring you will be tormented for all your days. You will beg for death and it shall not come, cry out for respite but receive none, scream for mercy but be ignored. You will fall to your knees! (hiss)

Keith Olbermann on Inauguration day.
