You know I do have to work sometime...

I'm already sleep deprived from the convention.

And imagine what will happen when the public gets ahold of the candidates words themselves unfiltered by MSM hacks. We could have real change on our hands!

With insincere apologies the Wilson sisters, I have had their classic song "Barracuda" running through my head all day and it has been making me smile. I must confess to discovering some deep seated cynicism that was only noticeable after it departed following McCain's speech. I feel good about our chances and that there are others that feel a similar optimism for the conservative cause. (That is sometimes tough in downtown Boston) "Standing Up", as John McCain requested us to do can be a career move when one works at a not-for-profit health plan where must cubes are festooned with "Bush's Last Day" stickers but I will try to make my voice heard. Are other Lizards experiencing anything similar? Love to hear about it.

Man Arrested Near Capitol After IED, Rifle, Ammunition Allegedly Found in Jeep
Friday, September 05, 2008

A man is under arrest in Washington after an improvised explosive device, a rifle and some ammunition were allegedly found in his jeep, Capitol Police said Friday.

The man stopped to ask police for directions near the Capitol building at about 11 a.m. EDT Friday, at the intersection of 2nd and Independence Avenue Southeast, according to Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.

The officer responding noticed a rifle case on the car seat and inspected the jeep, discovering the IED, rifle and ammunition. A canine unit was enlisted to help.

"They've all been rendered safe right now because they're in the custody of Capitol Police," Schneider told reporters at a briefing Friday.

McPain did all right, but in retrospect I think Rudy & Palin's tag-team kick to Emperor Zero's soft narcissist underbelly was the political highlight of the last week.

Obama's speech at Invescos was good, and he had a couple of good anti-Republican zingers, but the Dems rely on the MSM to take down their enemies for them. Republicans have to deflate enemy balloons all by their lonesomes, and they're good at it.

I hope Rudy has extra security at his house. Doubtless there are some Obamatons sharpening knives as they wipe away the drool thinking of how they'd like to carve him up for insulting their Messiah.

Just got this E-Mail from my leftist sister.

All of you out there who are really undecided had better think about the fact that this Republican ticket will strongly be in favor of turning around Roe V Wade and what religious right wings they will try to appoint to the Supreme Court as justices. If any of our daughters or daughter in laws get pregnant and their lives are in danger they won't have a choice whether to choose to have the baby or not. The mother will have to die and the baby will be born without a mother and some of these babies will not even have fathers.

I saw a link in an earlier thread where an Obama operative said this would be the plan to bring disaffected women back to the ticket. Can someone please find me that link. I do so love blowing my relatives out of the water.

This just in from the "Self-reliance - I'm not going take that shit lying down and wait on someone else to rescue me, not when my kids are in danger" department:

Couple shoots intruders with their own gun.

When two gunmen smashed throught the glass front door of her suburban Fort Worth home, Kellie Hoehn didn't think twice.

The 34-year-old mother of two grabbed a shotgun that was pointed at her face, starting a struggle that ended with one intruder killed with his own weapon and the other in the hospital.

"I wasn't going to let them get to my babies," she said, recalling the moment when she pushed up the muzzle of the shotgun, pointing it away from her children's rooms.

re: #49 pre-Boomer Marine brat

I bailed out during the boring early speeches. Not intending to gild it, all last night needed to be was "competent". The rocket had already left the launch pad.

You're correct. This was a GOP convention speech, not an election speech. The conventions purpose is to showcase the candidates and introduce them to everyone; show their faces so to speak. Their speeches, while still needing a certain eloquence didn't need to address specifically every issue.

The meat and potatoes orations with McCain/Palin going head to head with Obama/Biden will commence today.

re: #63 Killgore Trout

I'm not a conservative. I'm liberal.
/seriously

I heard an old JFKennedy speech recently and I realized why my mom was a Democrat. She agreed with the things he said, which were actually to the right of the current Republican talking points at this point. So the labels aren't holding up over time. I'm basically a liberal when it comes to issues with kids (food, clothes, education, medical requirements, etc.) and I'm drifting toward libertarian when it comes to almost all adults (especially those draining help while persisting with alcohol, drugs, and other defeating behaviors). I'm a hawk on defense, but a supporter of Peace Corps, etc. if they go build systems for clean water, commerce, etc. and train the locals as they were trained to maintain and expand the facilities. Nothing is clearly delineated. And no party is exactly perfect.

I don't see it rolling over 1000 before dinging is deactivated on that thread. IIRC, comments close after about a week, and I assume the dings will close then as well.

Sorry, didn't think a sarc tag was necessary. I know that Charles knows how to program and expect the field size will hold much larger numbers than we will ever encounter here.

If needs be, it can go into hexadecimal.

Hey, once upon a time I could read and calculate in hexadecimal.

re: #56 Sharmuta

Between Wednesday and last night, McCain and Palin played good cop, bad cop. She attacked her detractors, and he reeled in the undecideds. Wdnesday was for us, last night was done to draw in the people we need to help us keep 0bama out of the White House. I can accept that- though, I do think he ended great- thankfully.

I am pleased and surprised how unpolitically correct either of them are. They're not intimidated. I see no fear.

re: #82 Alouette

When my wife had our second daughter the doctor recommended an abortion because my wife's life was in danger.

My wife chose to have the baby anyway.
The doctor tried a few more times to convince her to get an abortion because it was too risky.

After the third time my wife got pissed and told the doctor to STFU, she was having the baby!

I'm sure most pro-choicers would call that a stupid decision, but I was never more proud of my wife.
Of course, I didn't want her to die, but that was a heroic decision, and it was hers to make, so I supported her.

No greater love than this! I would like to think I wouldn't hesitate to give my life for our children, should I ever have to make that choice.

In the opening frame it looks like McCain is making a shadow bunny.
