So what's the latest stupid Palin rumor besides the Sambo thing? It gets more sad each day.

2 The Other Les  Sat, Sep 6, 2008 4:18:02pm

A most useful feature as I've downticked my mistake on occasion.

3 Noam Sayin'  Sat, Sep 6, 2008 4:18:07pm

That would save me some embarrassment.

My father, whose moonbattiness I forgive because he is my father and because he was a liberal when it was liberals who were marching for civil rights, told me on the phone last night he is worried Obama will lose. First time I have heard that from a left democrat.

i talked to several people today who were very impressed w/ sarah palin's speech.
one guy, from queens, said he and his wife and lots of their friends are voting for mccain.
and a couple of dems who readily admitted she was dynamic and a leader.
they said they were not excited abt. obama at all.
that was encouraging. especially in this town.
maybe sarah will be the catalyst who gets people to open their eyes.

I don't know about anyone else, but I watched the entire McCain speech.

I liked it (he is not the greatest speechifyer but I have a personal liking for him so it doesn't matter to me)
But when he got to where he said...they broke me, I was crying.
And when he said "STAND UP" stand up and fight for your country, this is America, we can do ANYTHING.......

well..........

I stood up.

So much more powerful than obama's "enough" speech.

Because what McCain said was true.
This is a great nation.

Don't mean to sound hokey, but I put my "Women for McCain" sign out in my yard TODAY!

BTW, I really want to thank Charles (as LinkViewer creator) and all the LinkViewer contributors! I can read lgf's and DKos' readers contributions each day and know exactly what the pulse of the nation is at any given time.

At National Review Online:
September 05, 2008, 1:00 p.m.

Proud of the GOP

By Bill Whittle

Two masterstrokes were accomplished in the last two days of this year’s Republican National Convention. In her first appearance on the national stage — which can only be called a tectonic event — Sarah Palin secured the conservative base for maverick John McCain, while also reaching out to Democratic women. Then on Thursday night, John McCain struck again, making a play for the rest of the Democratic party.
[snip]
She is so absolutely, remarkably, spectacularly ordinary. I think the magic of Sarah Palin speaks to a belief that so many of us share: the sense that we personally know five people in our immediate circle who would make a better president than the menagerie of candidates the major parties routinely offer. Sarah Palin has erupted from this collective American Dream — the idea that, given nothing but classic American values like hard work, integrity, and tough-minded optimism you can actually do what happens in the movies: become Leader of the Free World, the President of the United States of America. (Or, well, you know, vice president.)

Sarah Palin has done more than unify and electrify the base. She’s done something I would not have thought possible, were it not happening in front of my nose: Sarah Palin has stolen Barack Obama’s glamour. She’s stolen his excitement, robbed his electricity, burgled his charisma, purloined his star power, and taken his Hope and Change mantra, woven it into a cold-weather fashion accessory, and wrapped it around her neck.

What if Microsoft Built Cars?

Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you'd have to buy a new car. Occasionally your car would just die on the highway for no reason. Accept this, restart and drive on.

Occasionally, executing a maneuver would cause the car to stop and fail to restart. You'd have to re-install the engine. For some strange reason, you'd just accept this too.

You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought "Car 95" or "Car NT". But then you'd have to buy more seats.

Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was twice as reliable, five times as fast, twice as easy to drive - but it would only run on five percent of the roads.

The oil, engine, gas and alternator warning lights would be replaced with a single "General Car Fault" light.

People would get excited about "new" features in Microsoft cars, forgetting completely that they had been available in other cars for years.

We'd all have to switch to Microsoft gas and auto fluids.

New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.

The airbag system would say, "Are you sure?" before going off.

If you were involved in a crash, you would have no idea what happened.

Microsoft cars would have a special radio/cassette player which would only be able to listen to Microsoft FM and play Microsoft cassettes.

If you couldn't afford to buy a new car, you could borrow your friend's and copy it.

Whenever you bought a car, you would have to reorganize the ignition a few days until it worked.

You would need an upgrade to run cars on a highway next to each other.

This downtick was not a mistake. And it seems she is actually quiet successful. More successful than a lot of 'traditional' women. Which is why the left is so enraged.

The Left was founded in the French Revolution in the concept of total liberation. Liberation from everything... whatever the hell that might mean.

Modeled after an HTML closing tag.

It's especially helpfull if your new around here, large lizards get to be know and it's more obvious when they're being sarcastic, but even they still use it.

From what I've seen in the past week. it looks like many dems are now noticing the empty suit that every lizard has seen for months. The attacks will be over the top nasty because they are afraid.

I think the difference is that these concerns, while always there, have only been given prominent mainstream press coverage recently because of the Republican convention.

For example, while we Lizards didn't need Giuliani to tell me Obama voted "present" 150 times, and that sort of ambivalence isn't becoming of the putative Commander-in-chief, I think that a lot of Americans (probably MOST Americans, even) didn't know about Obama's wishy-washy legislative history there.

Obama wrote two autobiographies, but no significant pieces of legislation. . .same idea.

Campaign material in classrooms sparks debate

School Principal Letizia Haugabrook said students saw bits and pieces of the Democratic National Convention during the week of Aug. 25-29, but no Obama ad was shown.

Information from Haugabrook is in a Sept. 3 letter to schools Superintendent Anna Cowin. Haugabrook was responding to an inquiry on what was shown in Oak Park classrooms the week of the Democratic convention.

Cowin said Friday that, in speaking to Haugabrook, she feels certain material from Republican presidential nominee John McCain and the GOP convention would be shown at Oak Park and all schools via Channel One.

But teachers are not required to show both sides of a political contest or issue. It is assumed that instructors will use good judgment when using the channel, Cowin said.

/yeah, hey, don't you trust the socialist teacher's unions to be fair and do the right thing?

40 Years After Capture, USS Pueblo Crew Reunites

JERICHO, Vt. — Ralph McClintock expected only a three-week mission when he boarded the USS Pueblo in January 1968.

Instead, he and his shipmates became pawns in a Cold War sideshow when North Korea captured the Navy spy ship and imprisoned its 82 crew members. Some still suffer the physical effects of torture or malnutrition they suffered in 11 months of captivity.

McClintock is proud of his service as a 24-year-old communications technician and the bonds he made with his crew mates, but that pride is tinged with bitterness.

Obama's Job Description as Community Organizer

When he later became a community organizer in Chicago, part of his job was storytelling. "His job largely consisted of interviewing community members and creating a narrative out of their experiences, the problems the community faced," says his boss at that time, Gerald Kellman.

If you get your information from Faux News I know all I need to know about you.

It comes down to a third-generation Navy officer vs. a red-diaper baby. Which do you choose?

(fwiw, the 'Faux' should'a had a /sarc tag) I have FOX News on the tube right now and still haven't seen that remote down here where the 'puter is.
Me personally, I'd go w/ the Navy Officer. In the case of the red-diaper baby, it shoulda' read, "red-diaper-doper-baby"

Actually enjoyed that one, kinda like the mid-'70's snarkiness of SNL. Random thought, maybe - just maybe - like a stopped clock, Dick Morris had a point about this being the year of the Female Candidate. Not the way he presented or expected it, and true just the same. Do the math, +/- 20% of the population is "African-American" - +/- 52% of the population is FEMALE!

-S-

Yeah, very much early SNL. Snarky, sarcastic and funny. The kinda of thing even the target can laugh at, and I think Palin would be laughing.

Well, in his defense, that's also what a president does - hire good people to do stuff. Nonetheless, "what should we do about Russian invading one of our allies with a major oil pipeline?" is a little more intense than, "what hotel should we stay at?"

I knew there would be some, such as the Republican from NH, but I saw more, including at least one who is voting for McCain due to Palin.

Yup. One gets the impression that during Sarah's acceptance speech if her microphone would have suddenly quit, Todd would have pulled a wireless mike out of his pocket, tossed to Sarah, and she would have said "Thanks, Honey" and kept right on talking to the audience without missing a beat.

231 kevinmumaw  Sat, Sep 6, 2008 5:42:49pm

So I guess another rumor being passed around is that Palin is a book burner.
Here is a discussion in which the list of books Palin sought to have banned in 1996is shown. Unfortunately, there are several books on the list which were published well after 1996, most notably all four Harry Potter books on the list. The list is a generic list floating around the internet for years which is merely books that have been banned or attempted to ban somewhere in the world, sometime in history. I enjoy nutcasery as much as the next guy, but this is actually starting to get boring.

Some on DU are still insisting that Sarah Palin was whisked away to Alaska immediately following the convention, to go into hiding, as her dismissal for the ticket is imminent. That was not, I repeat, not her in Wisconsin with John McCain. Nor Colorado. Nor New Mexico.

If you didn't know this....

Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin, a relative unknown to most Americans until she was named McCain's running mate this Friday, enjoys wide popularity in her home state and the respect of the broader Jewish community there, Rabbi Yossi Greenberg, Chabad’s representative to Alaska’s Jewish community told Lubavitch.com. "We all feel that the Governor is a remarkable, energetic, and good person."
[Link: lubavitch.com...]

Alaska - Chabad Rabbi: Sarah Palin a Great Friend To The Jewish Community
[Link: www.vosizneias.com...]

I brought that up at the kiddush after the services. The rabbi and rebbetzen knew Rabbi Greenberg and his wife - Chabad is a small community, in a way.

I think we should be taking a big chunk out of the congress critters paychecks. They are the ones that push lenders into riskier and riskier loans.

I'm sorry if I'm selfish, but 36% of my gross going to taxes is enough.

Should never have repealed Glass-Steagall, either.

But the trend to riskier loans was not exactly forced on all the banks, nor were the investment houses forced to collateralize and sell them. Just contagious greed and stupidity on all sides.

Don't worry about the 36%, inflation, both announced and denied, is taking, oh, another 5% per year as part of the current bailout, if you're holding cash or bonds. The real "fix" the feds are counting on is this inflation, if they can just buy some time, a year or three.

(a) why would you want two copies of WinZip on a system? (maybe I misunderstand). If you really want to do that, specify a "custom install directory" rather than the default "Program Files/ ..... "
(b) if installing WinZip on a "second box", just use the same serial number. If you paid for 2 licenses, it should register just fine.
(c) try WinRAR. It codes/decodes a lot more stuff, and is cheaper.

It;s been going on for over an hour now, and every single one of them is POSITIVE I'm not sure which show ABC will be using it for, but I'm sure it will be sometime within the next 48-72 hours.

(my company does things like this for ABC, CNN, FOX, NBC , etc all the time and thats their M.O.)

Will ABC, CNN, NBC just be using segments? No way will the show we watched "hosted" by Greta get played on those, because Greta hosted. Are you saying it will be "that show" in entirety, with the "voice overs" by the local network host?

My earlier impression, by which I still stand, is that FOX "is switching tanks".
That's a bit unfair, because I don't think FOX was "in the tank" for Obama. They did give him a lot of favorable coverage, though, especially on the O'Reilly factor. Previews of the next O'Reilly segment indicate that might change just a bit.
If ALL those segments appear on the other networks without "disclaimers" by the hosts: (a) I would be amazed, (b) I would regard that as an "It's over" statement.

Okay, check this shit out, guys. Last night I'm watching the movie The Matrix and this really struck me. Neo, the hero, is called "The One", and, in fact, he is the one they have been waiting for. Then, at the end of the movie Neo says "people are afraid of Change", and something about there being infinite possibilities.

hmmmmm ... I wonder.

Any woman that can raise five kids, shoot her own grizzly and a caribou, and get elected to two major executive positions....while looking that good, will get my vote. My wife commented that she expects someone to come out with a bumper sticker that says "ELECT McCAIN (then shoot him)". I think the way the left is reacting if they don't find some dirt (ie. that she killed Simone or did a strip show while in college) that they will implode. Usually, just downloading the "demo", installing it, and "registering" (usually the Help->About menu) works.

Just got back from church. Allowing people to reverse up- and down-dings is a great idea. Sometimes people (me) read things too hastily and ding them before we (I) understand them. Then there is the issue of clumsiness.

After church some people were talking about the nomination of Gov. Palin for VPOTUS. Had BHO chosen Hillary, McCain's pick wouldn't have worked near as well. BHO may not have wanted Bill hanging around, or may just not be too keen on Hillary, but had he chosen Hillary, it is very likely BHO would be the next president. As it is BHO's VP pick just maintained a status quo while McCain's pick garnered him a lot of momentum.

When have common storage servers, source control etc... up load a file, anyone any where can get it. Just email the link.

I was agreeing with those who were saying Comcast's 200 GB/month was "more than enough" until I read that.

now, if we want to listen to remotely stored music, videos, things like that ...

Is it just me or does this site remind you of some sort of text message race?

402 goddessoftheclassroom  Sat, Sep 6, 2008 6:50:00pm

From an email sent by a friend:

OBAMA'S 'NOT EXACTLY'S'

1.) Selma Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google ' Obama Selma ' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY; your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is p ro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone.

Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the truth.

5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at 5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.

6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not African Negro). From....and for more....go to.....

[Link: www.arcadeathome.com...] ewsboy.phtml?Barack_Hussein_Obama_-_Arab-American, _only_6.25%25_African

7.) I Never Practiced Islam - NOT EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for office.

4-3-08 Article 'Obama was 'quite religious in islam'' [Link: www.wnd.com...]

8.) My School In Indonesia was Christian - NOT EXACTLY, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).

February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, re citing them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks); Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.'

9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian - NOT EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.

10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia, I Have More Foreign Experience - NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and couldn't even speak the language. What did you learn, how to study the Koran and watch cartoons.

re: #381 mikeymom

i never thought i would say this--but--after moving to colorado, i've had elk and caribou steaks-some of the best meat i've ever eaten--dont like venison-too gamy- but caribou was the best!

I had elk steak in Sedona earlier this year. Quite tasty. Bison is a staple here (kosher bison at that!) Yum. The trick to cooking is to take 'em off the heat much sooner because the meat is far leaner than beef.

Kathleen Sebelius is none too bright. She took campaign cash from notorious late term abortionist George Tiller, and allowed him to attend a social function at the governors mansion where numerous photographs of the two shaking hands were taken.

I would really skew the demographics:

Two degrees with all but the dissertation of a Ph.D. in English.
A teacher who belongs to the NEA (I wouldn't choose to, but I have to since I belong to the local association)
Two kids, including a soccer player
Devout member of one of the most liberal-leaning mainline churches (Episcopal, although it's only because I love my parish church and can't bring myself to leave yet)
Single for all intents and purposes since I've been separated for a year.

Voting for McCain/Palin.

Well, well, well Comradess of the Classroom. We see you. You are hereby directed to report to your Obama Block Officer at dawn.

413 goddessoftheclassroom  Sat, Sep 6, 2008 6:51:41pm

13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office - NOT EXACTLY, Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My outlook on Life - NOT EXACTLY, Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

15.) I Won't Run On A National Ticket In '08 - NOT EXACTLY, here you are, despite saying, live on TV, that you would not have enough experience by then, and you are all about having experience first.

16.) Voting 'Present' is Common In Illinois Senate - NOT EXACTLY, they are common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES.

18.) I Was A Professor Of Law - NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

19.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer - NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

20.) Without Me, There Would Be No Ethics Bill - NOT EXACTLY, you didn't write it, introduce it, change it, or create it.

21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass - NOT EXACTLY, it took just 14 days from start to finish.

22.) I Wrote A Tough Nuclear Bill - NOT EXACTLY, your bill was rejected by your own party for its pandering and lack of all regulation - mainly because of your Nuclear donor, Exelon, from which David Axelrod came.

28.) No One on my campaign contacted Canada about NAFTA - NOT EXACTLY, the Canadian Government issued the names and a memo of the conversation your campaign had with them.

29.) I Am Tough On Terrorism - NOT EXACTLY, you missed the Iran Resolution vote on terrorism and your good friend Ali Abunimah supports the destruction of Israel .

30.) I Want All Votes To Count - NOT EXACTLY; you said let the delegates decide.

31.) I Want Americans To Decide - NOT EXACTLY, you prefer caucuses that limit the vote, confuse the voters, force a public vote, and only operate during small windows of time.

32.) I passed 900 Bills in the State Senate - NOT EXACTLY, you passed 26, most of which you didn't write yourself.

33.) I Believe In Fairness, Not Tactics - NOT EXACTLY, you used tactics to eliminate Alice Palmer from running against you.

34.) I Don't Take PAC Money - NOT EXACTLY, you take loads of it.

Anne Kilkenny, a Wasilla local who grew up with Palin and whose critical essay about her has circulated internationally in the media and on the Web, said her appointment is stunning.

"People are mind boggled to think that a local girl could be the president of the United States if the Republican ticket is successful and something could happen to this 72-year-old candidate who has had four bouts of melanoma."

Quite a mouthful I'd say. Obama could make it into an ad.

Part III:
