NYT hits bottom, digs.

2 Mars Needs Neocons  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:41:06pm

But remember, the Obama children have been declared out of bounds (rightly so).

3 Sharmuta  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:41:09pm

If the press thinks attacking little babies is going to help 0bama, they've got another thing coming. Keep working it, msm. Blowback's a bitch.

4 reno911  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:41:22pm

So what? NYT has no credibility.

5 Mars Needs Neocons  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:41:33pm

Wow a thread all to my lonesome.

Bwahhahaha, Now I'm in control.

6 Shug  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:41:59pm

This is the expose' : Trig has more executive experience than Obama

7 jemima  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:42:13pm

What'd the baby do wrong now?

8 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:42:28pm

Incredibly stupid. But that's the Times for you.

9 Sizzlack  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:42:38pm

One of the creepiest headlines I think I've ever seen. The kid is barely 5 months old and the NY Times is doing an expose on him? On what...his forumla? Diapers? This sounds pathetic.

10 spidly  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:43:11pm

well, he almost does have as rich of a resume as Obama.

11 Shr_Nfr  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:43:12pm

12 Reluctant Democrat  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:43:19pm

WTF?

13 Killgore Trout  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:43:26pm

It drools and poops. What's more to expose? It's a baby!

14 Kosh's Shadow  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:43:34pm

The NY Times: All the news that's not worth wrapping an old diaper in.

When do we start getting National Enquirer headlines on the Times? Like "Palin's baby's father is an alien"
/only the headline is sarc

15 rw in san diego  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:43:39pm

What could they possibly say about a baby?

16 doppelganglander  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:44:04pm

18 TheSpartan  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:44:30pm

The New York Slimes -- what's new? The media will just be humiliated and discredited again if they attempt to smear Palin.

This is good news.

19 Elcid  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:44:30pm

You gotta' be shitting me. Me thinks the NYT deserves the same...Let's check on some of THEIR babies.

21 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:44:59pm

Now that Palin will be appearing with Charlie Gibson, does Andrew Sullivan get the first interview with baby Trig?

22 spidly  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:45:06pm

Trig will buckle and cry under pressure from foreign leaders

23 PatrioticNaturalizedAmerican  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:45:38pm

Will Obama fire the New York Times now?

24 buzzdroid  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:45:43pm

good news. this will only help Palin. my god - the backlash against the MSM is gonna be immense.

25 LoFlyer  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:45:53pm

Well the NYT and others left it to bottom feeding National Enquirer to out Edwards affair, so it is unsurprising the NYT is leading the charge against Palin. The lib MSM are running scared and will probably get themselves into a worse credibility rating that is like at 25 percent.

26 Elcid  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:45:57pm

re: #21 JammieWearingFool

Now that Palin will be appearing with Charlie Gibson, does Andrew Sullivan get the first interview with baby Trig?

No, Trig is way beyond Sullivan in cognitive think/reason.

27 poovey1171  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:45:58pm

I wonder if somehow they will me able to link downs syndrome, global warming I mean "Climate Change" and George Bush/Republicans as the cause.

28 doppelganglander  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:46:03pm

Seriously, though, what it probably is is a repetition of the ugly smears from last weekend, repackaged as "analysis."

29 Shug  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:46:08pm

Even Trig knows that Bill Ayers is evil.

33 Sharmuta  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:46:23pm

Could any of us have imagined just a few months ago that the issue the left & msm would try to drag out to tip the race in favor of 0bama would be a 5 month old Down syndrome baby? WTF is wrong with these people?!

34 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:46:36pm

39 Shr_Nfr  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:47:24pm

re: #9 Sizzlack

They will compare the shit he produces to the shit 0bama produces on the American public and be forced to conclude that the kid's shit is of higher quality.

More seriously, I expect unsubstantiated "revelations" that Palin considered an abortion. Unfortunately for 0bama, that is the wrong thing to say. It says that this lady has had the choice that has faced many, many women in their lives and then decided to have the child on the strength of her beliefs and character.

40 stevieray  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:47:38pm

56 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:50:49pm

Word has it Trig briefly considered joining the Alaska Independence Party but now is registered independent.

He also reportedly gurgled a noise that curiously sounded like Sambo, according to insiders at some Alaska diner.

57 Sharmuta  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:51:08pm

Just talked to my left leaning Auntie. She's not voting for 0bama (yeah!) although she's not committed to McCain (yet). However- she said she's not sure about Sarah Palin, but she too thinks the media has been out of line attacking her family. This is what the media just isn't grasping- regular Americans just find this tactic disgusting.

Keep pushing it msm- the more you tighten your grasp, the more readers/viewers slip through your fingers.

58 Twilight  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:51:30pm

It's a strange world we live in - bears are protected species but (republican candidates' children are fair game.

The hypocrisy and the sheer amount of venom and vileness to which liberals are capable of in their hour of despair never stops to amaze me.
They are breaching all borders of common scene and decency with their attacks on Palin. This is sad.

I hope this wil make people see them for what they are.

Which one? Gov. Palin's baby with Down's syndrome or her daughter's pregnancy? Suggesting that the first must have been aborted is called taking the point of view of eugenics. Poking their noses into the second is called none of their damn business. Either way -- real classy, NYT!

By the way, I am not much of a pro-lifer (sorry), but unless you live in Red China, there are certain questions that are for a family to decide, with advice from the religious authority of its choice, if applicable.

61 livefreeor die  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 4:51:39pm

1. Trig is actually Bristol's child, and Sarah is covering up for her.

Nope, been debunked already.

2. Sarah Palin screwed around and the baby is not her husband's, but some other man's.

Then it wouldn't be described as an exposé about the baby, but on Sarah personally.

3. She should have done the "responsible" thing and aborted it because it was disabled.

That's not an "exposé," that's a philosophical and moral discussion.

4. Sarah's not paying enough attention to it, because she's so busy with politics.

Pathetic anti-feminist smear.

1). Todd's not the father. It's Todd's ex-business partner mentioned in the "National Enquirer" as Sarah's supposed one-time lover. The NYT is suddenly a big believer in the NE's journalistic integrity. Girls, if you had Todd at home, would you stray?

Ah yes the old thought crime argument. Most people will realize it is irrelevant if they thought about it, in the end they did not abort the baby. I have thought plenty of things contradictory to my beliefs yet never went through with them. Now I'm guilty simply for thinking them? If that is the Times angle that is really sad.

One guess of what their slime story might be:

1). Todd's not the father. It's Todd's ex-business partner mentioned in the "National Enquirer" as Sarah's supposed one-time lover. The NYT is suddenly a big believer in the NE's journalistic integrity. Girls, if you had Todd at home, would you stray?

Does it really matter if she did? After all, the last Democrat that we had in office screwed an intern on the historic desk in the Oval Office.

The only thing I can think of is that they seriouly considered an abortion. Not that, that is anyone's buiseness but their own, and they ended up having the baby. IF they even ever did consider an abortion.

First the left attacks her for NOT having an abortion, and then they attack her for thinking about HAVING an abortion?

Gee, that's certainly consistent!

I guess the NY TImes think it will infuriate evangelicals, that she considered abortion, but really, the vast majority of mothers with Down's Syndrome babies do have abortions, and are encouraged to do so by their doctors, so that could hardly be considered scandalous. Besides, Palin never declared herself to be perfect. She is human, after all. No one would hold it against her for a moment of wavering.

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

So fire away NYT - about the only thing you could say about Palin that would hurt her standing is that she is a closet liberal, and that's not gonna happen.

Let's be fair here. Obama got one day of 6+ from his "convention bounce"

Even they can't be that dumb, or can they? Haven't they noticed the trend --that people are sympathetic towards Palin because of all the media attacks? This is translating into more votes for McCain....shhhh maybe they won't catch on to this until after the election. I think their biggest problem is they just talk to each other and are totally clueless about what real people think of their slime filled journalism.

/bbl computer is very slow today

Perhaps the lizard who suggested that Soros is paying for all this bad press is right, but I suspect that there is a certain set of curs at the NYT who are like attack-trained dogs. They see a certain kind of person, a conservative or a Republican, and restraint disappears. Instinct takes over and they are off to the chase.

2) If she doesn't, she's an unfeeling, unemotional stonehearted bitch who, if she couldn't shed a tear for her own family, cannot be expected to feel the pain of the Average American, or to care a fig about them in their Time of Need - which, according to the Dems, is always Now.

The Humbling: “The One” goes to Don Clinton

So, it appears that “The One” is going begging to Don Clinton, hat in hand:

The One strides in confidently and extends his hand to The Don. The Don looks up, contemplates the proffered hand, and watches The One’s smile fade as it is not shaken. The One retracts his hand, and tilts his head, comprehending, but not liking it. Still, he needs this meeting.

Don Clinton nods slightly, and with a silky hand motions The One to take a seat. Don Clinton’s blue eyes are grave, but there is a noticeable twitching about his mouth, as though he is suppressing a smile, or sucking on a peeled grape. He remains silent. The One looks about the room in discomfort, waiting for an opening. Don Clinton makes a point of playing with his pinky ring, and gives him none. Finally, clearing his throat and assuming a cavalier affect, The One speaks:

The One: Uh, thank you, Mr. President, for seeing me in your beautiful offices.

Don Clinton nods, but says nothing. More praise is due.

The One: I, um, think it’s er…a wonderful, a wonderful testament to your, eh, your um, unquestionable commitment to em, the uh, your solidarity with the black community.

Don Clinton, remembering when The One played the race card on him, narrows his eyes and does not smile. He leans back in his chair and waits, squinting through the smoke, his cigar tilting upward in his mouth, ala FDR. More praise is due.

The One: It - it was a masterstroke of erm, brilliant racist-baiting, erm…a stroke of masterburbating, uhhhh, stroking, ermmm…a master…stroke…of getting back at the Republican jerks who impeached you and foreplaying, I mean forestalling any future innuendo or scandals intern erm…in turn.

Don Clinton’s eyes are ablaze with anger. The One, too cool to cower, crosses his legs and wishes for a teleprompter.

It goes on !

For the last eight years the Dems and their advocates in the Press have had a free hand to sling shit all over anything Republican and never worry about anyone thinking they went too far with their attacks. They are like a dog on a chain who keeps running further and further out because he doesn't know how long the chain is. Eventually the dog gets to the end and the chain yanks them on the neck. I meant what I wrote, literally.

She likely considered an abortion like Obama considered joining the military. . .they both thought about it for a few seconds and then decided not to do it.

Frankly, I couldn't fault her if she did have an abortion (and of course, ironically, had she done it, nobody would ever have heard about this non-"scandal"). But IMO she did the much braver thing by having the kid.

I suspect she thought about it a little bit longer than a couple of seconds. I surely did.

Here are the owners of NYT courtesy Wikipedia
"The Ochs-Sulzberger family, one of the United States' great newspaper dynasties, has owned the Times since 1896. After the publisher went public in the 1960s, the family continued to exert control through its ownership of the vast majority of Class B voting shares. Class A shareholders cannot vote on many important matters relating to the company, while Class B shareholders can vote on all matters.

Dual-class structures caught on in the mid-20th century as families such as the Grahams of the Washington Post Company sought to gain access to public capital without losing control. Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, had a similar structure and was controlled by the Bancroft family (it was bought by the News Corporation in 2007).

Major Class A shareholders, as of December 31, 2006, include the Sulzberger family (19%), T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (14.99%), Private Capital Management Inc. (9.34%), MFS Investment Management (8.28%) and Morgan Stanley Investment Management Inc. (7.15%).[46]

The Ochs-Sulzberger family trust controls roughly 88 percent of the company's class B shares.[46] Any alteration to the dual-class structure must be ratified by six of eight directors who sit on the board of the Ochs-Sulzberger family trust. The Trust board members are Daniel H. Cohen, James M. Cohen, Lynn G. Dolnick, Susan W. Dryfoos, Michael Golden, Eric M. A. Lax, Arthur O. Sulzberger, Jr. and Cathy J. Sulzberger.[46]"
Lets see public class "A" shares do not get a vote. Class "B" owned by the Ochs-Sulzberger have full voting priviledges. This is not a publicaly run company. The class A stockholders are extremely unhappy with NYT's poor financial performance and loss of stock value. Reminds me of a capitolist dictatorship that the libs hate so much.

I think the above poster (sorry, I should have noted it) who suggested it would be a story about three families whose lives have been destroyed by having a Downs child is very likely.

It's all to inform and to show how a woman with five kids, one of them disabled, can't be Vice President.

And it's going to blowback at them with a flying mass of flaming poo diapers.

That's an astoundingly disturbing image. They should really think twice.

re: #261 MrPaulRevere

I can't believe the piece would be remotely positive toward Governor Palin, so lets assume for the sake of argument that its a hit piece. It's almost mind boggling to believe they would be that stupid.

There could be a legitimate story there about when she found out she was pregnant and what decisions she made about it, and who she told, etc.

But none of this would reflect well on the NYT, which I doubt could resist the urge to spin this story against Palin personally.

Sorry to go OT.

I was listening to 106.7 KBPI Denver will driving home from work several days ago when they brought up the talking point "Should Gov. Palin run as VP with a pregnant teenage daughter?" Most of the callers were supportive of Gov. Palin with a few asking why Bristol's personal life justifies this line of questioning. The Radio jocks answer was the Right and Republican attacks on Sen. Obama's minister Rev. Wright completely justifies inquires into Bristol's life and to call into question Abstinence Only Sexual Education.

So attacking a public figure that makes racist and fear mongering speeches within a public forum of a church was wrong and it's only justice to attack a private figure for being pregnant while still under the age of 18. The train of thought going through some people's heads amazes me.

And that is where they'll find themselves if they keep up the asinine hit pieces on Sarah Palin and her family. And they will do just that because they can't stop themselves. And they'll end up driving voters to McCain-Palin.

It would be nice if/when that metaphorical neck yank comes, it will be strong enough to break it (the neck of the MSM).

PROTECTING AMERICA'S SWEETHEART
Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler
To The Point
Thursday, 04 September 2008

America - real America - is in love. I know I sure am, and I have a lot of company. Yes, it's platonic love. After all, she's married and faithful (and so am I!). Nonetheless, I, like so many millions of Americans, have fallen head over heels in love with Sarah Palin. She is America's Sweetheart.

Say goodnight, Bar..., Ber..., Buh..., what's that guy's name again?

That guy is so, like, over. So yesterday, like the tax-and-spend welfare state liberal-leftie cant he espouses. Obambi represents the past. Sarah represents the future.

Which is why my deepest, most passionate desire regarding Sarah Palin is that President Bush order a doubling of the Secret Service detail to protect her. And then we provide some backup.

Sarah is the Hate-America Left's nightmare.

The pathologically deranged smears of the hate-America moonbats this week have only served to increase enthusiasm and sympathy for her. The moonbats are in a state of panicked rage because they rightly see in her the capacity to destroy all the myths that give meaning to their angry little lives.

Which means their vicious verbal attacks on her person are going to turn physical. There are going to be attempts on her life.

I don't want to bum out the celebrating, the elation, the thrill over Sarah - but she has got to be protected.

Thus I am setting up a website with the domain name of protectsarah.com. Its purpose is to be a clearinghouse for organizing and coordinating civilian protection - particularly by military veterans - of Sarah wherever she goes on the campaign trail.

This would be an adjunct to, and in no way interfering with, her Secret Service protection. Just peaceful watching over her...

Read the rest of the article, where Jack Wheeler included a photo of his grandfather standing next to Teddy Roosevelt. Grandpa was a Secret Service agent who had the honor of protecting four Presidents.

Note that Jack's new website is still in the forming stage, so bookmark it and check back often for updates.

This is worthwhile.

Liberals just can't help themselves - everything they decry about the right they are guilty of engaging in - I really think this is a good sign for McCain/Palin because the Greek Columns are starting to crack.

While I do not have the exact quote, or the link I wish add to your astute observation a paraphrase of something Mark Levin aired on his programme-- remarks from Biden in which he repeats over and over complaints about the attacks on Obama's LACK of substance in the following paraphrased question: "what do people talk about when they have nothing to say?" (or words to that effect) which he repeated to a crowd 4 or 5 times in a row.

All I could think was: YOU tell me, Biden, you plagiarizing, racist, sexist, MORON. You who are the screaming lunatic of nonsense-speak for the Obamatons--and while you are telling me this, Biden, LOOK IN THE MIRROR for your answer IS IN YOUR QUESTION!

Here is some info on the NYT chairman of the board. Looks like he is about to get a divorce. Anyone care to research this? Excerpt from Wikipedia

"Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr. (born 22 September 1951) became the publisher of The New York Times in 1992 and chairman of the board of its owner, The New York Times Company, in 1997, succeeding his father, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger.[1]

Sulzberger was born in Mount Kisco, New York, the son of Barbara Winslow (née Grant) and the previous Times publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, and the grandson of another Times publisher, Arthur Hays Sulzberger. He is married to artist and journalist Gail Gregg. They recently announced plans to end their marriage.[1] According to the chronicle of the Sulzberger family and The New York Times published in The Trust: The Private and Powerful Family behind the New York Times, by Susan E. Tifft and Alex S. Jones, published by Little, Brown in 1999, Sulzberger is sometimes referred to by the nickname "Pinch", a variation on his father's nickname "Punch", but dislikes the name."

No. No paper would be that moronic, since Down's is a genetic condition not caused (nor rectified) by environmental factors.

Alan Colmes was that moronic Zombie. He blamed Trig's Down's Syndrome on some imaginary medical neglect by Sarah Palin when she chose to fly home to deliver (in repeated consultation with her doctor) rather than attempt delivery in an unknown ER where they did not even have her medical records.

I look for the NYT to point out how its an easier decision to have a Down's child when you have lots of resources (read: money) to help pay for extra expenses that will come along, in an effort to downplay Sarah Palin's courageous decision to keep the baby. And then they'll go into full attack mode about how low income children with Down's syndrome are left behind by the evil capitalistic Republicans.

If this is an article on her decision, I guarantee you that this angle will be major.

If for some reason they start up again with the DNA testing demand, what exactly are they looking for? IIRC, is DNA testing for ancestry capable of discriminating between Mother and Daughter? Or are they trying to show that Todd is not the Father to spur yet more speculation?

Oh sure, DNA testing would tell that. However, that is not the point. The point is that no other candidate for national office at any level has EVER under any circumstances been asked to prove that their children are their own.

To do so in this case is not only a slap at Sarah & Todd Palin, it is a direct slap in the face to the parents of every disabled child in the nation. Worse, it sets a precedent where women will be required to provide this kind of information and smeared as whores if they refuse. I don't see anybody asking Barrak Obama to prove his paternity of his daughters.

We cannot allow this to go unchallenged. If we do, we will all pay in very short order.

Maybe this smear should run on the front NYT. Biden smearing a dead man and the family he left behind.

Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden's 2007 statement that a "guy who allegedly ... drank his lunch" and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.

Alcohol didn't play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audience at the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver "stopped to drink instead of drive."

The senator's statements don't jibe with news and law enforcement reports from the time, which cleared driver Curtis C. Dunn, who died in 1999, of wrongdoing.

"To see it coming from [Biden's] mouth, I just burst into tears," Dunn's daughter, Glasgow resident Pamela Hamill, 44, said Wednesday. "My dad was always there for us. Now we feel like we should be there for him because he's not here to defend himself."

I am betting it will be the claim that Sarah Palin thought about aborting the baby because she underwent amniocentesis. What they will be ignoring is the fact that even after she was armed with the knowledge that the baby had down's syndrome, she did not chose abortion.

The focus will be on the allegation that she thought about it rather than she didn't do it.
The NYT clearly doesn't see a difference because it's editors cannot understand her decision.

The key is don't let them just throw out the theory to a crowd and spout nonsense. Make them explain it all in detail.

I like to get to the part where I point out that their skull must be full of pancake batter if they think steel needs to melt for a structure to fail.

NYT PREPARES TO FRONT DETAILED STORY ON PALIN'S BABY, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE...

It was an expose, now it's a story. If we wait long enough they'll admit the truth--it's a fairy tale.

But, as per Barry Obama, "Families are off limits." And "If anyone on my staff does anything like this, they'll be fired". (paraphrased)

So they get their surrogates to do it for them, so they can have plausible deniability.

It's laughable, because their smears in the last week have only caused most Americans to become more interested in her. And they've liked what they've seen.

Trig really doesn't have Down's Syndrome but a disease that's often referred to as "Cat's Syndrome" (don't know the medical term for it)? A good friend's sister had such a baby. Children born with this disease are a little more mainstreamed as older children than children with Down's Syndrome.

I hate the Slimes and really shouldn't care what they're "expose" will be but their "exposes" are talked about for days/weeks and it will take McPalin off their games to have to refute such crap.

Why refute it? Ignore it and just keep hitting on Obama & Biden.

re: #375 galloping granny

I completely agree granny. Every time they start up or even hint at a call for DNA testing, or even any "proof" of Maternity/Paternity, they just embarrass themselves and should be offending all those so called feminists on the left.

I am somewhat curious as to whether DNA testing could actually tell if a child was born of a Mother or Daughter in the same family. Any lizards know anything about that?

re: #383 A Reasonable Man

Uh Oh.

Andrew Sullivan just posted a long praise of Palin's decision to have Trig, which makes me think he knows a real slimy expose is coming, and he wants to cover himself.

When this slime breaks, he'll go on and on about how much this pains him as evidenced by his recent praise of her decision. What a phony!

His exact text is, for those who do not wish to visit that hellhole,

"In thinking about this astonishing week, and what's to come, I want to go on record again as saying that the decision to bring up a child with Down Syndrome is one of the most noble, beautiful and admirable decisions any person can make. That Sarah Palin is doing that says a huge amount in favor of her. The love obviously being shown toward tiny Trig is also about as profound an advertisement for genuine, pro-life Christianity as you can have. It means that, in this respect, Palin has walked the walk of the pro-life movement - in ways that many others have not. In my view, and I mean this as passionately as I mean my criticisms of her public record, this really is God's work."

This is so full of irony... The persistence on "decision", "decisions", "walked the walk" make me completely certain that they will try to argue that she "considered an abortion". How they will try to prove this is another matter. A doctor would never discuss this (even if only for legal reasons), and a friend who actually knew would never reveal. So they will have to go with anonymous sources or enemies posing as friends.

I don't know. He's usually pretty straight-forward in his attacks. I haven't seen him try to cover himself that way before. He just ignores the proof that he's wrong and since he's already attacked her, there's no real reason to go back on that if he thinks a real smear is coming up. He'll just use that as proof he was right.

It might be that even his leftist readers have had enough of being made to look foolish and are starting to get the message to him. Kos is trying to rein it in, so maybe Excitable-Andy is too.

In any case, it seems like this might be a story that ostensibly informs about the decision to take a Downs baby to term, but I have no doubt there will be a negative spin somewhere to attack the Palins but with subtlety and nuance.

If you support someone's right to choose, ipso facto, you are supporting their right to choose NOT to abort a baby.

Considering that Palin clearly has the means, resources, ability, and desire to care for this child with Down syndrome, implying she "should" have aborted it is tantamount to promoting infanticide.

It remains to be seen whether or not Trig Palin is a "drain" on society (there are numerous individuals with Down syndrome who support themselves fully as adults), but with some sense of irony, its a bit hypocritical for Dem partisans to point disapproving fingers at individuals who rely on gov't entitlements to support themselves!

Are they not going to shut up about who birthed who in the Palin family until everyone gets DNA tests done?

Besides a small core group who thinks this is a wonderful and legitimate axe to grind, most everyone else is going to thing this a bizarre invasion of the family's privacy. No doubt these are the same people who yelled loudest about keeping the government out of their bedroom. I think it will backfire. If they get so annoying that DNA tests are actually done, it will blow up in their faces. This is a lose-lose for them. Are they really so stupid they think this has merit?

Down syndrome, Down's syndrome, or trisomy 21 is a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome. It is named after John Langdon Down, the British doctor who described the syndrome in 1866. The disorder was identified as a chromosome 21 trisomy by Jérôme Lejeune in 1959. The condition is characterized by a combination of major and minor differences in structure. Often Down syndrome is associated with some impairment of cognitive ability and physical growth as well as facial appearance. Down syndrome can be identified during pregnancy or at birth.

Early childhood intervention, screening for common problems, medical treatment where indicated, a conducive family environment, and vocational training can improve the overall development of children with Down syndrome. Although some of the physical genetic limitations of Down syndrome cannot be overcome, education and proper care will improve quality of life.[

Let's face it---the Left, despite all its vaunted compassion, really despises the handicapped, and anyone it considers a "drain" on society (i.e., "Anybody who'se gonna get government tax money that by rights oughta go ta ME!")

Yep, I look at all the unused wheelchair ramps at various government facilities and wonder just how much money has been wasted over the years providing disabled access to each and everyone of our facilities.

IF (Updated)

If you can get ahead when all about you
Are losing their jobs and blaming you,
If you can trust yourself when people doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't vote Democrat,
Or being hated, don't give way to Dem talking points,
And yet don't look too good, nor smoke Dem joints:

If you can dream--and not make dreamy thigh-master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts a game;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And make those two impostors just lame;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, 'God-damned!',
And stoop and build 'em up with time-tested tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of the market,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your pocket;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep human virtue,
Or walk with 'stars' --nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Heaven and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Considering their [NYT] bias, there's no doubt - if this project's truly brewing - that this report will totally hurt 0bama. It'll expose the media once more as being leftist, hypocritical and biased. Just like they declined McCain's op-ed as oppose to 0bama's.

I rigged up a cup holder and a bowl for popcorn just to be comfy to munch and sip on hard once the sh!t hits the iranian centrifuge.

You don't want to run that through a centrifuge—the centrifuge will separate out all the pure evil and that's a bad thing.

re: #490 David IV of Georgia

I guess if Down's Syndrome is caused by a mother's neglect, then all the mothers with identical twins are equally neglectful. Let's investigate the lot of them.

The DNA tests have already been done long since - that is part of the testing for Down's. Every patient's rights group and privacy group in the country should be up in arms at the very idea of releasing that information.

We expect candidates to release their medical records - though Obama got away with a doctor's note. The DNA testing is TRIG'S medical record and he is a minor child. Nobody has the right to it. Including - and most especially - the media.

( to predict recurrance risk ) Even in this test, the markers to establish paternity would not be done since that would not be an issue and is not cost effective. Paternity is completely seperate

in a 44 year old woman with 4 previously healthy children, a confirmatory basic karyotype would be done on the baby since the etiology is certain to be maternal nondisjunction

Now that the headlines are "leaked",

The Obama campaign will buy a lot of advertising from the NYT.

Obama gets to be a hero,

Just got off the phone with someone in Charles's neck of the woods. In the high tech field. If they get any news, it's the LA Times or their friends. They've never heard of Bill Ayers and they still format the election as about Bush and nothing else. I'm glad for LGF and PJTV, etc., but the MSM is still running the message this cycle. It's good that the press subscriptions are going down, but it won't be until '12 or '16 that a real dent will be made in the MSM's wall of lies. Hopefully, the damage will not do us in.

The great thing is, most voters know 0bama's running against McCain, not Bush, and it just makes the MSM look stupid.

In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote. The survey of 1,022 adults, including 959 registered voters, has a margin of error of +/— 3 points for both samples

McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican's biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.

What are the chances that the NYT will publish a "Minor Children are Out of Bounds / There Was Clearly Never Anything Here / We're Sorry / We Won't Do This Anymore" headline and story?

I think that even the National Enquirer sees that there's nothing here, never was, and it's wrong to do what they've done.

The entire "Scrutinize Gov. Palin's Family" effort of the last few days has put several torpedoes in to the SS Obama. My guess is that the DNC has issued frantic orders, and the attacks will mysteriously stop by late tonight.

There's only 60 days left to repair the damage, and odds are more problems for Obama will be revealed by the UI-Chicago papers and more investigation. Then there are the debates. Obama seems to do poorly when rattled or without a teleprompter; add these together and add many manufactured problems and outraged opponents and voters ...

US Weekly is begging people to not cancel subscriptions. The NYT is already sinking; do they have any subscribers left? How's life in the Sulzberger Bunker?

re: #520 galloping granny

Eugenics continued to be practiced in Alabama well into the 60's. Forced sterilization.

Forced sterilization of sex offenders is not a tool of eugenics, but rather is intended to reduce or eliminate the chances of the offender reoffending or impregnating a future victim.
And individual reproductive choices, freely made, may or may not be immoral - but they are not applications of state-imposed eugenics.
Those who receive pre-natal test results which tell them with certainty that the child will be born with a terrible disease, have a personal choice to make. Palin made her choice to have the baby and that was her right. Even if she had chosen to abort the fetus that too would have been her choice but it would not have been forced on her by the state and so could not fairly be conflated with State actions like the holocaust or forced sterilization.

re: #580 galloping granny

Normally a whole genetic profile is done rather than just a simple test to look for the Down's marker - just in case that one of the other nasty-awfuls is present.

Had my first child at 44. Didn't know I was pregnant until 3 1/2 months as I had no real evidence prior to then. Anyway, asked for genetic testing at the time. Doc said it was too late to abort...and I said I wasn't ever going to consider that as I don't believe in abortion...I just wanted to be prepared in case I needed to be. Better to be armed with information then ignorant of a large possibility at the time.

They did the test and at the time...some 16 years ago...tested for over 875 different genetic problems that could have shown up. Not one did...the child was perfect. But I remember being overwhelmed at the number of things they tested for. I imagine that today, that number has increased significantly. Science is amazing.

Sulzberger family controls the board with a fraction of the capital invested. Pinch has a minority of the family stock. It would take a family rebellion to kick Pinch out, a palace coup. Stockholders have tried to break these family trust stock class arrangements but the old boy network protects it. After all they protect the paper as a sacred trust in the public interest.

O/T but did anyone watch the AK Gov debate from '06 just airred on C-Span? Three very intelligent candidates. Didn't seem like there was that much separating the three candidates on most issues except for the "life" issues. She had to have won on the strength of her personality (or having Todd and Track going around threatening the citizens with a hockey stick up the head if they didn't vote for her ).

The MSM can't say that she was for abortion before she was against it. Seems like she's always been 100% pro life.

That man's ex wife has already refuted that: said absolutely NOT true, it is a lie. She further went on to and said that she can say with 1000% accuracy that Sarah Palin NEVER had ANY AFFAIR.

Not just not with her ex-husband --the former business partner but with NO ONE.

She mentioned that as soon as it was announced on Friday, her husband requested the court to seal their divorce papers. The court denied it but it was on THAT request they "assumed" he wanted to hide something. She explained that her ex husband is a private man and with the press digging around --since he and Todd Palin had been business partners was that he did not want his financial information publicized.

The press have now seen the divorce records. The Palins had nothing to do with their getting a divorce.

I'll see if I still have the link for that quote.

NYSlimes is clueless of the visceral reactions they are producing. It's in our DNA to rush to the defense of women and babies...and the more vulnerable, the stronger the subconscious reaction. Sarah Palin doesn't need defending, but the response is the same, and now they want to pick on a 5 months old downs syndrome baby? BRING IT...more votes for the good guys.

The only thing I can think of is that they seriouly considered an abortion. Not that, that is anyone's buiseness but their own, and they ended up having the baby. IF they even ever did consider an abortion.

I would seriously doubt that Sarah considered that - but even if so considering something isn't the same as actually doing it. Just like Barack "considered going into the military", but didn't.

703 Nancy  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 7:44:52pm

I think it is going to backfire on them. People are so sick of the underhanded attacks by the left and to stoop to bringing children into it is beyond the pale.

Attack the issues, attack the policies, attack their ethics -- you don't go after their spouses and kids.

And the press is treating her differently and unfairly, the public certainly knows it.

They covered up the whole Edwards mistress/baby and that occurred while he was running FOR president AND being considered as a Vice President. And it took the Enquirer a YEAR to collect evidence.

Yet in less than a week they disclose that Sarah Palin had an affair?

It was within HOURS of her announcement last Friday when the allegations first appeared on KOS that Bristol was the mother's baby.

NOT ONE of these people even KNEW before Friday that she was going to be the pick and within hours and days they suddenly claim they have "PROOF" of all this scandal!

I don't think it will hurt LGF, and that the article is so amazingly sensible re the plight of working mothers, is amazing. As a retired RN, they actually gave 2 different opinions re flying home, etc., after her membranes ruptured, and how her sister also has a special needs son, who is autistic.

I looked for a sarky remark, but could not honestly find one. I have a feeling that the 3 women who wrote it may very well have also been through it, thus had actual empathy for her. re: #341 mich-again

As the mother of a child who spent the first 3 months of her life in hospital, who had several major surgeries before the age of 2, and who has had years of therapy.....well, this is true. If it were not for my very excellent private health insurance coverage, there is no way we could have afforded to keep her alive, and that's the truth.

Nevertheless, those who can.....do. The poor always bear the brunt of evil in the world. In many places today, a large number of otherwise normal, healthy babies do not make it to their fifth birthdays. But it has nothing to do with evil capitalistic anybodys.

I agree with you re the article. I sent it to my daughter, who is a writer who now freelances from home, as she totally re-prioritized her life post-9.11. She is a stay at home Mum, by choice, and my son in law encourages her.

She was furious with Gov. Palin for not flying home ASAP when her membranes ruptured, and will not vote Republican. That article, I think, will make her stop and think.

My 2 year old grandson kept taking the phone away from her to talk to me. Smart boy! ;)

That article, I hope, will make an impression on lots of women, who might just feel some empathy for Gov. Palin, and actually decide to vote Republican. I sense a sea change re how people will look at working mother.

738 Nancy  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 9:41:16pm

re: #734 NY Nana

I don't think they ruptured ...it said "leaking amniotic fluid" which isn't the water breaking. Cause it sure doesn't leak out when it ruptures!

She wasn't in labor either since the article said she went directly to her home town hospital and they induced labor.

739 Chotii  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 9:54:42pm

As long as the woman is not Strep B Positive, I quote from:

allexperts.com

"If you have premature preterm rupture of membranes, as long as you have not lost too much fluid, there probably will not be any problem. You probably have a "high leak" and, since the fluid regenerates itself daily (the baby swallows the fluid and urinates more fluid), it probably will not have any consequences. However, since the integrity of the amniotic sac has been compromised, there is also a risk of infection in the uterus (because it is open to the outside) and this can lead to preterm labor or infection leading to fetal compromise. You should be on modified bed rest and should take your temperature frequently. If you develop any temperature over 100.4 F or if your WBC starts to creep up, you may have to be delivered earlier than planned."

And I add: as long as nobody starts sticking their hands up there to "check", (sex is also restricted) thus potentially forcing bacteria up toward the mouth of the womb.

If Mrs Palin was NOT in labor, then there was NO crisis. The fact that the baby is a Downs baby is irrelevent. No fever == no problem. Her doctor clearly agreed. When she got home 12 hours later, decision was made to induce. What is the issue here?

740 NY Nana  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 9:54:54pm

re: #738 Nancy

My bad! Right you are. And she went into labor a day after returning. IIRC...and they then ruptured membranes, as there was nothing going on.

Been there, done that 3 times. #4 was the shocker, as he was in a biiig hurry, and was also the biggest of the 4.

741 Nancy  Sun, Sep 7, 2008 9:59:50pm

re: #739 Chotii

That's what I have said as well. There is no issue.

She checked with her doctor and she obviously wasn't in danger and flew home. That there CAN be a "risk" when the fluid starts leaking but it isn't necessarily a crisis. And it certainly has nothing to do with Downs.

I would have done the same as she did. Got on the plane and gone home.
I believe she HAD gone to an ER down there and they DID evaluate her.
I have made no issue of her judgment.

ROTFL! My first son waited 2 days to decide...what I had done I will spare everyone the details...it was almost 45 years ago. He, to this day, arrives late. We tell him and my dil that any family dinner, etc., is starting an hour earlier than it is...and they are late. My poor little granddaughter!

My daughter and second son also needed an assist, but were easier by far. Number 4 was in such a hurry that the 3 older ones had to wake my husband up...we made it with very little time to spare, and my 'baby' was born in less than an hour! I had to yell out 'precip' to get the RN's into my labor room...they were my friends, and told me to stop teasing them..one checked me, and the next thing I knew I was being given enough anesthesia for quints, at least, and rushed into the delivery room!

Now? When the 3 grandkids were born (all onlys, like I am) we were there to see and to hold them..a very different world.

Time to do a few things and to attempt to go to bed on less than 4-5 tries!

Amazing!

I have a friend who, sadly, lost her baby at 22 weeks of pregnancy. She had ROM as well as a progressively-detached placenta. She went to see her regular doctor, but he was out. The stand-in SOB told her "The party's over, go in and be induced." She called me in hysteria, asking if I knew anything she could do, because she knew I was on bedrest with my own very high-risk pregnancy. I referred her to the high-risk OBs with whom I was working. They tried...everything. They even had her in Trendelenberg position at home (where the germs are familiar), trying to help her body retain as much of the vital amniotic fluid as possible. She still lost the baby. But they *tried*. And the concern was never whether she might develop an infection. Of course she might have, but they would have dealt with that if and when it happened. She had ROM for days before fetal demise occurred. Infection was not a problem. It CAN be a problem. But there are symptoms when that happens, and it doesn't happen in 12 hours.

Joshua would be 9 years old now, the same age as my twins.

Drudge changed "expose" to "detailed report". Looks likes his sources were having a little fun with him.

Now on Tuesday when NYT goes back to recycling lies about her book burning orgies and forced creationism curricula, they can point to this piece. "Well, we were nice to Trig, after all." Fair and balanced.
