More bad news for the Obamatons: since last month, there’s been a 20-point shift towards McCain among white women.

Change!

There's only one poll that matters, and that's the actual election. Anything else is just educated guesses and predictions which can (and often do) change wildly before the big day.

I pay polls little to no heed.

Palin would scare away Hilary voters, not attract them. (Since McCain's political stance is closer to Clinton than what Palin is.)

You are right to do so. Polls are generally inaccurate (generally tilted leftward, too).

However, even without polls, it's obvious just from the general atmosphere in the country that there has been a huge short toward Palin among women.

Senator 0bama- we women aren't stupid. We actually can tell when we're being used and exploited. There will always be a percentage of women who don't mind, or enjoy the exploitation for some twisted reason, but the majority of us have self respect. We're attracted to men who aren't afraid of a strong, intelligent woman. We see how you really feel about us and you can consider these women's votes as their Dear John letter to you. Buh-bye!

Look for the Left to issue the standard, specious accusation of racism.

They would look pretty bad trying to accuse those voters of sexism though.

"Damn sexist women, so blatantly voting for a female VP when the Democratic Party is obviously the best party for women."

... though even in that supposed quote, there is a stated view that a demographic group has to vote for a given party just because of their gender or race....

Obama previously was embroiled in controversy regarding Hamas after Ahmed Yousuf, the terror group's chief political adviser in the Gaza Strip, said in an interview in April with WND and with WABC radio that he "hopes" Obama becomes president.

"We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the elections," said Yousef.

Actually, this isn't really shocking or unusual. Terrorists will seize upon legitimate or semi-legitimate excuses for what they're doing to appeal to the public. This is why an act of terrorism planned for months and months can be played off as a "response" to the latest thing Israel has done to insult tha Palestinians. Anything can be used as a grievance. This is why either solving these grievances or convincingly point out that the terrorists are in fact making things worse is an important part of a counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist strategy.
This, in turn, puts you in danger of causing a "mouse that roared" problem whereby areas that have terrorism get more aid and assistance than peaceful areas with more problems and more needs. Which is perhaps why Gaza is the highest per-capita recipient of international aid even though there certainly are areas with less material wealth than there.

I wouldn't go so hard on Obama on that quote alone.

But thinking that the grievances and poverty is what really drives terrorism is a mistake. It provides nourisment to it, but is not the real cause.

There hasn't been much in the way of good news for the Dems as of late, is there?

Recap -
- Olberman and "ooh my leg" Matthews outed by their own employer as political hacks

- McCain beating Obama in the polls - noting McCain got a bigger bump than Obama, AND McCain has also achieved the above 50% mark that we were told last week was a big damn deal (that was then...)

- Biden reveals he does, in fact, live in a fantasy world where he was the catalyst for Iraq success. I hear in this world Gore invented the internet and discovered climate change in the laboratory located in his basement.

- Biden and Obama voted for the stinkin' bridge, but of course they wouldn't have if Sarah wasn't initially for it (Biden's next claim, no doubt).

- Obama is now facing female white flight even after the other big O stopped Sarah from reaching out to women (I mean if Oprah says she doesn't rate an interview, how the heck are these women finding OUT about her?)

I hope this list continues to grow!

Take it for what it's worth:

April 24, 2008

The IOP poll showed that among young voters, Obama would best McCain by a 50 percent to 29 percent margin, with four percent going for independent Ralph Nader and 17 percent undecided. If Clinton were the nominee, she would beat McCain by a 41 percent to 34 percent margin, with seven percent supporting Nader and 18 percent undecided.

If this is like previous elections, the Dems garner more of the youth vote, but I believe the turnout is the lowest of all demographics.

I'm sure there are a lot of women breathing a sigh of relief that there is a women out there with kids and a career and she doesn't need a girlfriend, a buzzcut and hiking boots to do it.

You know, Obama's defeat is going to be hard rain falling on the Left. In backing a guy with zero executive experience, they have been exposed as elevating his race above his resumé, i.e. as racist to the core.

Hear! Hear! The recriminations inside the Dem party should be quite entertaining. Hillary will pick up the pieces and she will be terrible in her wrath.

If this is like previous elections, the Dems garner more of the youth vote, but I believe the turnout is the lowest of all demographics.

And that poll was quite some time ago. Things change. I do know that there is a big divide between college kids (Obama) and kids who got a job instead (McCain) but that, too, was a while ago.

The few I know personally from either group that will say who they are voting for are supporting McCain.

Where do you see yourself going? Staying on in Alaska. Washington?

You know, I don't know. I knew early on that the smartest thing for me to do was to work hard, do the best that I can, make wise decisions based on good information in front of me. And then put my life, get myself on a path that could be dedicated to God and ask Him what I should next. That will be the position I will be in as long as I'm on earth — that is, seeking the right path that God would have laid out for me.

Hey all Y'all - drive by post - just put this in the spin-off links, but if you EVER had any doubts at all about the MSM being in the tank for Obama, try this out (from Al-Reuters, natch'):

McCain's surge: After convention, he catches Obama

By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate John McCain got a bounce in opinion polls from his convention and now runs even or slightly ahead of Democratic rival Barack Obama with eight weeks to go in the White House race.

McCain's surprise choice of conservative Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate also sparked a burst of grass-roots Republican enthusiasm, polls showed, an encouraging sign for party strategists worried about turnout in the November 4 election.
[Snip]

Three polls taken since the Republican convention ended on Thursday show McCain with a lead of 1 to 4 percentage points -- within the margin of error -- and two others show the race dead even.
Another poll released on Monday, by the Washington Post/ABC News, gave Obama a 1-point edge among registered voters and McCain a 2-point edge among likely voters -- both within the margin of error.
A USA Today/Gallup poll published on Monday showed the number of Republicans who said they were more enthusiastic than usual about voting was around 40 percent in August, compared to about 60 percent for Democrats.

Since the pick of Palin, a staunch anti-abortion and pro-gun conservative, the number of Republicans who are more enthusiastic about voting jumped to 60 percent, with Democrats at 67 percent."

Hmmm - whatever happened to that poll Charles showed us the other day, and another that Jammie has in the spin-off links above, showing McCain with an 8-10 point lead among LIKELY VOTERS?!

re: #202 Ojoe

with nitromethane fuel

Posted sometime back ... seems appropriate once again ...

Definitely something to think about......

"DEFINITION OF ACCELERATION"

One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower
than the first 4 rows of stock cars at the Daytona 500.

Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro
methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same
rate with 25% less energy being produced.

A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the
dragster's supercharger.

With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive,
the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.

Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.

At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by
which quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions are
determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of nitro methane, the flame front
temperature measures 7,050 deg F.

Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the
stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric
water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.

Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is essentially the
output of an arc welder in each cylinder.

Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After halfway,
the engine is dieseling from compression, plus the glow of exhaust
valves at 1,400 deg F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the
fuel flow.

If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in
the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow
cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.

In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an
average of over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph (well before
half-track), the launch acceleration approaches 8G's.

Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed
reading this sentence.

Top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light!
Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions
under load.

The redline is actually quite high at 9,500 rpm.

Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and
for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimate $1,000.00 per
second.

The current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.441 seconds for
the quarter mile (10/05/03, Tony Schumacher). The top speed record is
333.00 mph (533 km/h) as measured over the last 66' of the run (09/28/03
Doug Kalitta).

You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter "twin-turbo" powered
Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a top fuel dragster is staged and
ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the
advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the
gears and blast across the starting line and pass the dragster at an
honest 200 mph. The "tree" goes green for both of you at that moment.
The draster launches and starts after you.

You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine
that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the dragster catches and
passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from
where you just passed him. Think about it; from a standing start, the
dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught you, but nearly
blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1,320 foot
long race course.

That folks is acceleration...

Hmmm .. ya think 0bama is hearing that brutal whine?

Well, this shouldn't be a shock. I'm sure this is what the MSM feared.

OF COURSE Sarah Palin appeals to a broad spectrum of women (not just white, either). Why wouldn't she? She's an all-American success story that inspires pride in the freedom and opportunity this country provides. She's obviously a smart, well-spoken, competent leader, who also equally obviously loves her family.

The fact that she and her family have received left-wing ritual abuse at the hands of the media has probably helped rally women to her cause as well.

Lefty rants to the contrary notwithstanding, it's a bit of a leg-tingling thrill to watch the country vote with its feet and affirm that one does not have to believe in killing babies to be a true feminist.

re: #242 FlakMusic

MessNBC is looking for you at The Tingler is in the corner doing a wittuw timeout.

He was in this to win the primary and the nomination. Then he was stuck, methinks, because choosing Hillary and winning the election on those terms meant putting up with her and Bill for four years at least.

How/why Biden was chosen is beyond me. But I am grateful for his horrible lack of judgement. :)

I have thought right along that Biden was "chosen" because the other candidates declined. Win or lose, being Obama's running mate might very well be political suicide.

In Portugal, you can only have a gun if you are a politician, security, policeman or another job that requires a gun for safety reasons. For that, you have to make a request to the local police command, explaining why you need a gun. If approved, then you can have one, but only in 6.35 mm (.25 ACP). Other gun calibers are not allowed.

Ordinary citizens can only have access to hunting weapons and have to make an previous exam to get the license.

There's nothing compared to your situation in the US, where a normal citizen have the right to have a self-defense firearm.

I don't know the size in numbers.

I do know that historically --at least the last 4 decades --the youth vote is the MOST unreliable. Many new registrations are younger but they are the least likely to actually go out and VOTE on election day if it isn't "convenient."

The most reliable voters are senior citizens! They will trudge through rain, sleet, snow and hail because they still have that sense of "government duty and privilege to vote."

I doubt there are too many senior citizens or even middle-aged persons reading much less posting on KOS or DU.

This month, McCain enjoys a solid 58% to 32% among unaffiliated voters in Ohio. That is a major improvement from the five-point deficit the Republican received from this demographic a month ago. Among men, McCain leads 59% to 36%, but the Republican trails among women 50% to 45%.

Yes, cherry-picking ok - as per Charles Thread on Sunday, USA Today/Gallup showed McCain with a 54-44 lead over Obama among likely voters; the referenced Reuter's "news" item refers to that same poll but doesn't report those numbers, just to show that Republicans are more enthusiastic about McCain now!
Seriously read the spinoff link all the way through, somehow they report that same poll without reporting that it showed that HUGE lead for McCain! Then look at JammieWearingFools spin-off link showing McCain leading in 5 of 7 polls!
So yes indeedy, the MSM is still in the tank for Obama and on this one we can shake Reuters by the throat (figuratively speaking, of course)!

A nice change of pace, and a reminder of what has been achieved by ignoring Obama and the rest of the defeat lobby:

A Bridge to Somewhere: New Bridge Unites Sister Cities

KUFA — During the recent opening ceremony of a new bridge south of Baghdad, Iraq’s vice president said the $6.5 million project shows the Iraqi government’s commitment to improving people’s lives in poorer areas that were ignored by the former regime.

“Projects such as the new Imam Ali Bridge will help generate economic improvement,” Adil Abdal-Mahdi said. Included in the project are sidewalks, railings and approach lighting systems, along with a paved area on each side of the bridge for fire truck access to the river.

The bridge will provide a safe and reliable crossing across the Euphrates River connecting the sister cities of Kufa and Najaf, a vital component for commerce and transportation in that region, said Dr. Ameer, the Iraqi deputy Resident Engineer with the Gulf Region Division.

“Local residents are very appreciative,” he said. “The 350-meter multi-span concrete bridge replaces a pontoon bridge and should help alleviate some of the traffic jams, especially during the religious season.”

The strangest thing about this election, is seeing the PUMAs just gnaw on Obama like a tasty undersized antelope.

I have been reading the Hillary Clinton Forum now for 3 days, and it's a riot. And they're actually on the ball with news, and tidbits before many websites. For example, Obama's latest gaffe:

Obama told the $30,800-per-person attendees -– the money goes to a joint Obama campaign-DNC fund -- that he hoped they were “up for a fight.”

“I hope you guys are game,” he said, “because I haven’t been putting up with 19 months of airplanes and hotel food and missing my babies and my wife –- I didn’t put up for that stuff just to come in second. I don’t believe in coming in second. The American people can’t afford for us to come in second. We’ve got to win this thing and we’re going to win it with your help.”

Oh, poor widdle thing! First the waffles, now the hotel food. Can't a guy catch a break?!

This following on the heels of the whole "Nitally Lions" gaffe, and it shows you how out of touch this guy is with normal, everyday, non-rockstar Americans.

But, and I do NOT like her, in my opinion, Hillary EARNED the Veep spot.
At the very least, a serious vetting.

And he gave her the back of his hand and chose a beltway hack.
McCain on the other hand, picked a qualified woman, a real reformer with a proven record.

Not because she was a woman, but because she was what he was looking for and was a woman.

There's nothing compared to your situation in the US, where a normal citizen have the right to have a self-defense firearm.

You have no idea the hoops I have to jump through to own a handgun or rifle.
I stood in line for 45 minutes with only THREE people ahead of me just to get a permit to buy a rifle. I had to bail out and get back to work. I didn't get my permit.
The permit office is only open 9-4 Mon-Fri. (Real good timing for a working class society that wants to protect itself.) To get a handgun, you need to take a $100 class (Not everyone can afford that on top of the price of a weapon.) then submit an application for a permit to buy a SPECIFIC handgun. The process is well designed to discourage.
The second amendment is being perverted here in the Aloha State.

Is this law a holdover from the Salazar regime or was it imposed by leftists?

Only .25ACP LOL!

Some countries have just goofy firearms laws. I know in Italy, you can legally own a pistol but it cannot be of a military caliber. 9x19mm parabellum (what most people know as 9mm) is banned, but a more powerful 9mm caliber, 9x23 is not! I would guess .357 SiG and .40 S&W would be ok since neither is in military use.

I think Mexico has similar laws. That's why .38 Super is so popular down there. Colt made some really nice 1911's in .38 Super once upon a time for the Mexican market. They are collector's items now.

In response to the (late-breaking) news on Fannie and Freddie, he still rails against "reckless borrowers" and greedy lenders, or somesuch. Marxist twaddle almost completely uninformed and irrelevant to current events.

"Reckless borowers", foresooth, his bone for conservatives, and a totally nonsensical concept (the presumption being that even most rational borrowers will borrow excessively if granted, the risk being far more on the lender this is generally good game theory, not to mention good lending assumptions going back to the dawn of time)

Ya know what bugs me the most about today's "PC Society"? We are not allowed to speak our minds. When I witness something so ridiculous it defies description, I have to frame it in the realm of "PC correctness". I call BS! I have always been one to call it as I see it. I have been forced to filter my opinion/position within the current PC standards.

I'm getting sick and tired of restraining my opinions based on the rules they legislate all the while they get a free pass on those same rules. Rules are rules. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

If we attack BHO on his positions, we are "Swift-Boating" him. If BHO's campaign attacks Sarah Palin or John McCain, they are "vetting" them for their ability to lead.

If Obama can't go toe-to-toe with BILL FRIKKIN O'REILLY, how on earth can he face Putin, Dinner Jacket, and Al Qaeda?

Jason Lewis said today that 75% of Oprah's audience is older white women. They made her a billionaire. She has really shown her true lib colors by propping up a guy who has no experience or accomplishments. Hillary was far more qualified. Palin is far more qualified. And Oprah went with the empty suit. Why?

(I know why)

(Me too.)

re: #403 Phil.

Did you hear about Barry's reference to "New Pennsylvania" the other day? Before I thought the 57 state thing was a gaffe but maybe he really thinks there's 57 states. You know, "New York, New Jersey, New Pennsylvania, New Florida, New Oklahoma, New Georgia..."

Wasn't that when he was in New Philadelphia, Ohio?

China builds on the backs of slave labor Mr. Nuanced Obama. You got to be shittin' me, this man thinks he's ready to be President? How can you have a foreign policy when you can't even recognize evil?

Thanks. So you were live and up close. I was thinking more along the lines of glamor shots for mags. I have no doubt she'd be stunning.

The process is well designed to discourage.
The second amendment is being perverted here in the Aloha State.

Power to the Correct People!

Hawaii guns laws suck nearly as bad as Kalifornias. No concealed carry. I recall a story about a Filipino-American resident of Kapahulu who had to shoot a drunken Samoan thug who broke into his house and threatened him with a knife. First he had to fight off the damn city or state prosecutors who wanted to try him for murder, then when he was finally acquitted on self defense, the family of the Samoan thug began threatening him. Poor guy ended up having to move to the mainland to get away from them.

This is change I can believe in.

If this holds up, then we will have witnessed a surge, and not a mere bounce.

Oh they are building alright, remember before the Olympics they were building 10 foot tall walls in front of slums so the visitors there for the Olympics couldn't see them. Now that's progress..

What a maroon...
