Watch out for that kind of behavior from a UPS. Sometimes the window for allowable voltage or frequency is set so narrow that they go into battery mode altogether too often, and wind up discharging the battery. I've had that problem occur several times when I use a UPS on the job at a drilling rig, where the power supply comes from a light plant that has major motor loads on it.

Some models of UPS, you can configure the voltage window. I'd recommend setting it to go from 95 volts to 135 volts, if you can. Computer power supplies are more tolerant of under/over voltage than a lot of other things. The best use of a UPS is to protect against a blackout, i.e. total loss of power. Minor "brownouts", i.e. temporary voltage sags, usually cause little grief in a desktop PC, at least in my experience.

Obama keeps making these unforced errors and he's flailing about for a strategy to hit back. He'd be best served by sticking to the issues, but he's having trouble doing that too. I don't know who is advising him, but they are doing such an awful job, that the happiest person on the planet right now is probably Hillary.

It didn't have to be like this for Obama. He could have stuck to the issues. Instead he tries rhetorical tricks, and instead sticks foot in mouth. That follows his running mate doing the same.

These unforced errors, if they continue - and there's no sign that the campaign is going to figure out that attacking Palin in any way other than strictly on policy is a losing issue) are going to lead to Democrats scratching their heads and wondering how everything came off the rails.

Watch out for that kind of behavior from a UPS. Sometimes the window for allowable voltage or frequency is set so narrow that they go into battery mode altogether too often, and wind up discharging the battery. My favorite moment on television was November 5th, 2004 at 2 AM, I had arrived back home after helping count votes for the elections in my employers districts. Counting votes for local government is interesting. You know exactly what is happening at the local level but are clueless as to what is happening at the state or national level. On the commute back home I listened to the radio and tried to piece together what was going down. But I did not truly understand what was happening till I got home and pulled up Dan Rather and CBS on the tube. Dan looked awful. He looked like someone had mentally taken a base ball bat to him. Five minutes later he announced Ohio had fallen to Bush, and Bush had won the election. A sad moment for Dan, he knew he had just lost his job and career. It was a proud moment for me understanding what Charles and the LGF had done to expose the 60 minutes debacle, and turn the tide in 2004. Thanks and God bless you guys!

This is up at Obama's blog right now and the lipstick on a pig reference is all over that fever swamp. Don't buy his bullshit story that its just an old saying. Its viral .

Maybe the pig comment's got something to do with his "Muslim faith".

I don't think Obama meant to call Gov Palin a pig. At this point, that would be so breathtakingly stupid to do intentionally, that it's hard to believe he'd do it. Now, the audience took it that way.

Sen Obama can turn this around, but he needs to do it now. Apologize for the remark, it was an innocent remark and in the future he'll stay away from lipstick jokes.

If he doesn't, it's going to stick.

I don't doubt he meant for the words to connect to Palin, because it was a play on her hockey mom/pitbull joke. That said, I think conservatives diminish ourselves by acting like it was a horrible gaffe. It was juvenile and petty, but it's not on the level of the lies he's told about himself and about McCain/Palin. We'd do better to take the high road and hit him on the important stuff, IMO.

I think perhaps Palin opened the door to this. She referenced herself as a pitbull. Could one argue that perhaps animal references to her are fair game?

That being said, calling her pig ain't gonna help him.

A fair argument. However, the pitbull reference seems more directed towards her tenacious nature, which is distinctly different than if she referenced herself as, just a dog.

Candidates as dogs....

Palin - pit bull, of course.

McCain - an aging St. Bernard...like Cujo. Friendly looking enough, but a bit deranged just below the surface.

Biden- Afghan hound. Looks good, but like the breed, traded smarts for nice hair.

Barack - A miniature pinscher admiring itself in front of a fun house mirror.

I don't know what to think. It could be just an innocent comment. But he's a guy that gave Hillary the finger -- there's no doubt about that in my mind -- so I don't know.

Just have McCain call Biden a pig and call it even. Move on. Obama will make make a policy gaffe any day now. That is, if Axelrod will ever let him speak without a teleprompter again.

There's no way Obama overtly meant to do this. The idea is to connect unflattering images (pigs, fish stink) with your target into the mind of the listener so they think about that whenever thinking about your target.

Of course, you have to be clever to do this and not make it seem like an insult. And only Obama thinks Obama is clever.

Consider the venue. Lebanon, Virginia.
(Remember the pathetic "townhall" meeting in Bristol, VA, when he stammered about breathalizers.)
It doesn't matter that the audience is made up of hand-picked supporters. He's scared of these people. They're fat, they're bitter, they're clingy, and they shop at Walmart.

I hope O and Biden continue to run their Presidential campaign as a Celebrity Roast with Gov. Palin as the "Guest of Honor." If it keeps up...in less than a week the only female demographic they'll have left will be Rosie and Babs. This election could be an R landslide.

I disagree. For many people he can do no wrong...the way Bill Clinton could do no wrong no matter how wrong he done. It is too important for many people to get him elected and to have this be THE historical event. McCain and Palin are riding a wave at the moment that will calm down inevitably as weeks go by.

I think they need to talk concrete proposals and do some preemptive policy strikes. Sieze the reins of health care and social security with some maverick proposals. Talk about taxes and balanced budgets etc etc. Everyone knows he will support the military , build our defenses and not pull the rug out from under the troops. But McCain showed he can manouver and now he needs to outmanouver and outhink his opponent with more than the sameold rhetoric. Preempt the Dems empty talk with concrete proposals with facts and figures. Retire the rhetoric.

Obama wishes he could bring out a little of that old razzle dazzle. (Let's see those jazz hands!)
