I'm watching Palin live from Alaska speaking to a crowd.

Palin is an alpha predator with lipstick - she's doing a great job so far in her speech.

How very timely. Considering I'm taking crack #3 at finishing a root canal tomorrow. Joy.

Never, we were apes and still are. Monkeys are lower down on the evolutionary scale.

Hey esch - are you seeing a dentist or an endodontist for that root canal?

15 Sharmuta  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:52:03pm

The most interesting thing I learned about the evolution of the jaw was the about the bones- how some evolved into our ears. Fascinating stuff!

16 stevieray  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:52:04pm

I think they are demonstrating evolution in real-time. This may take a few million years to finish... but I think I see a microbe in the first video.

Oh... that was dust.

Hmmm.

17 CheDub  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:52:38pm

The episode on skin is really good. I was intrigued by how we evolved the ability to sweat in order to run our food to death.

18 Sharmuta  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:53:12pm

They don't have Disco Dewds working at youtube, do they?

19 Egfrow  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:53:57pm

You know a good predator that has very intimating jaws. This known as the sub species Sarrahcuda.

20 rawmuse  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:54:07pm

Since we are OT, Charles, how is that Stephen Foster CD? Is it produced in a manner such that the music is true to the period, or are the songs given a modern treatment?

21 zombie  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:54:27pm

If evolution has led us to Sarah Palin, I'm all for it.

22 CheDub  Wed, Sep 10, 2008 8:54:37pm

So instead of a quick kill, lions actually take down their prey by slow strangulation until the victim becomes brain dead? Sounds like some of the policies being promoted by the dems.

OT: The latest Koskidz smear; the father of Bristol Palin's baby is.......Black (gasp!).....
Bristol Palin's Real Baby's Father (Kevin or Levi)?

After reeling angrily today over the sickening and perverted sex-ed that McCain and his 134 lobbyists have leveled against Senator Obama, I ran across this article which inquired and cautiously suggested that Levi may not be the father of Bristol Palin's baby.

This young man may be. Take a look at the video and provide your comments.

[Link: utube.smashits.com...]

After reading the diary of the individual who went to the Fairfax, Virginia McCain/Palin rally today, I would assume that if this is true, that their base who apparently hates Senator Obama and despises all liberals will turn flips over and over.

Do you think that the right-winged folks would disown Sarah "Barracuda/Pitbull with Lipstick" Palin if her precious daughter's baby is by an African American?

Racism!

Racism!

The way to effectively respond to that is first with a full and detailed laying out of the links between Obama and the his financial backers *Soros* and the Netroots *Kos* and the Dean wing of the party. Only once he is fully and publicly tied to them in th epublic mind will exposure of these maniacs and their slurs matter. Otherwise McCain/Pallin look small for beating up on crazy kids in a basement.

Obama on Letterman: Paulin is "Lipstick", McCain policies are "Pig"

"Keep in mind, technically, had I meant it this way, [Palin] would be the lipstick. The failed policies of John McCain would be the pig, just following the logic of this illogical situation," Obama said.

So he was talking about Palin and McCain yesterday. No doubt about it. And, as if a bonus, Biden:

"Make no mistake about this," Biden responded. "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America, and quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate, I mean that sincerely, she’s first rate, so let’s get that straight."

re: #28 Killgore Trout

Are they so damned f*ing stupid that they think it would not be noticeable when the baby is born, and that the Palin family, while graciously handling their daughter's pregnancy, would not tell the world that the son in law to be is black? And would the young man's family allow him to be used as a Trojan Horse? I think not.

There just is no low low enough...

Point Two: The best secret weapon in the Republican/conservative arsenal is this: They have a weird, one dimensional cartoon view of their enemy. As long as they see the other side as walking talking simpletons, they will keep losing the big races.

Bristol Palin's Real Baby's Father (Kevin or Levi)?

Racism!

That is completely off the rails. The video linked to (visible here) on YouTube is probably legally actionable. Who put that guy up to it? If he doesn't provide proof of his claim that he is the father of Bristol's child-to-be, then he could be in for world of hurt.

But if you watch the whole video, it seems pretty obvious that that whole thing is completely fraudulent -- a left-wing smear purposely design the turn off (their fantasy version of) McCain voters. The guy talks too much about the political ramifications. And although I doubt that, if true, this would turn off any McCain voters at all, it's like the what the moonbats would dream about as the perfect scandal, in their misapprehension of American attitiudes.

The very fact that the whole claim exactly coincides with what leftists want to be true, convinces me (among many other reasons), that it's false.

Yes. Precisely.

The single most important military axiom is: Know thy enemy.

The Left does not know their enemy, in the slightest. They imagine their opponents to uniformly be knuckle-dragging neanderthal racist rednecks. All of their strategies are based on this wash-fact. And since it isn't true, their strategies tend to fail.

Agree with everything you say which is why the response shouldn't allow Obama to simply deny a connection and laugh at the Republican's for "faux outrage" He did that once and his people think that if they keep making the Republican candidates respond to and chase rabbits down holes it will make the Republicans look as immature and sick as the people they are responding to, while Obama talks about "Real Issues" So the respons emust be careful, thorough and massive, and designed to tie it all back to Obama so it sticks to him.

OT (one more thing... I'll shutup, I promise..)

And thinking about Biden's admission, if "The One" has all this "executive experience" running a presidential campaign, (because he's got nothing else) when the first, one might say, "major" or "critical" decision he's had to make comes up, and mind you he's got lots of time to think and consider his choice, he gets it WRONG.

And some people actually want this man in the oval office at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue?!

Matt Damon needs to learn that we elect a President and Vice President to do the tasks associated with that job, which would only include consideration of Dinosaurs when the Vice President is attending a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Smithsonian in her ex officio capacity. She has exactly the skills and talents needed for improving the honest and efficient administration of the government and the principled and effective response to negotiations or crises in foreign affairs.

He could consider what are the talents and skills he has in his chosen profession and how they could be best used in the public interest. Perhaps he could make a film that allow the audience to identify with a man who is willing to put his life on the line to give women the choice of not submitting to pederasty and seclusion because of fanatics who would murder her for carrying zuchinni and tomatoes in the same bag.

Good show.

So the show ends with Homo Sapiens dominating the planet's food chain because we are can think-make better jaws (tools & weapons) than any other creature existent. Our think-make jaws are so superior that we could be described as losing the need for chewing jaws altogether, with the potential of sucking down our future-meals with a straw.

They then mention that an evolution-driver is that the rules are constantly changing. No generation faces the same survival challenges of the preceding generation, with changes ranging from the very slight to the very significant.

Which lead me to the thought that the advantage of being able to think-make a better jaw because we can out think our prey, could be supplanted by a creature-thing that does not think at all, and has no jaw at all, just receptor-hooks. A virus.

The thinker brought down by the nonthinking.

Option #1 - A decorated military veteran with over 20 years of political experience. Consistently votes against pork barrel spending. Supports the military with words and deeds. Often goes against his own party for what he truly believes in. Wife is a rich hottie who owns a beer distributorship.

VP pick - Hottie who can hunt and fish and give birth - at the same time. Current Governor of the largest state in America (which is rich in natural resources at a time when utilizing those natural resources is urgently needed). 80% approval rating - highest in America. Husband is a man among men.

or

Option #2 - A former community organizer / State Senator (voted mostly "present"). Current U.S. Senator who has been running for president since taking office. No major accomplishments to speak of (or demonstrated). Admitted former drug user. Known associate of America haters and domestic terrorists. Spouse admits to rarely being proud of America.

VP pick - A long time politician with no major accomplishments to speak of - although he does speak quite a bit. Foreign policy recommendations have been derided by his peers. Prone to committing gaffs. Admits he is not the best candidate for the job.

Decisions, decisions...

First question, can't answer.

Second question: college.

Her "sadness" is not real depression. It's what in the pre-Freud days was called "hysteria." She has an overwhelming need to be the center of attention -- the negative center of attention. That was the hallmark of the hysteric -- they derived satisfaction from "creating a scene" or flamboyantly pouting (which is what her videos are).

Actual depressives do not make videos of themselves being depressed. They just want to be alone, and/or they don't want everyone to watch them in their misery.

She's obviously been raised in the "It's all about me!" culture, where even private sadness must necessarily be "processed" with the whole wide world.

Primates have a muscle tied to the jaws and the top of the head. In humans this muscle doesn't exist. I agree with you about the VP choice - that is, I think under the rules of the Dem Left Party, the nominee for POTUS could simply choose another nominee for Vice-President.
Don't know what would happen if Obama decided he didn't want to or was too ill to run or somesuch; I'd think that they'd have to have some sort of convention, if only by phone and of only the superdelegates, to pick a new POTUS nominee.

Same here, and I'd expect the MSM would go full throttle to gin up Hillary as a savior. Biden withdrawing is up 5.9 at Intrade. Near a tie for McCain and Obama. Someone ought to put a contract for Hillary to step in as Obama's VP. Obama needs the defibrillator - swapping for Hillary would do that.

12th amendment spells it out. The VP is chosen the same way as Pres.

The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

From Wiki

"The separate ballots for President and Vice President became something of a moot issue later in the 19th century when it became the norm for popular elections to determine a state's Electoral College delegation. Electors chosen this way are pledged to vote for a particular presidential and vice-presidential candidate (offered by the same political party). So, while the Constitution says that the president and vice president are chosen separately, in practice they are chosen together."

Aye, the Founders had all studied the republics of Greece and Rome, had read the theories of the 17th-Century liberals; and yet, between the Athens of Jefferson and the Jerusalem of Adams, they did establish Novus Ordum Saeculorum on a much firmer ground than the French Revolutionaries of the 1790's.

This is why we have a pluralistic republic in America with some features of economic socialism, instead of the full-blown fascistic-communistic hybrid of the European countries.

I have confidence in the American voter to see through it. The tone of the media will change, they will be oohing an ahhing and try to reassert their influence. Nah the dentist's office has been as helpful as they can be. Haven't billed for the original procedure and have made all the arrangements once I identified an eligible office. Scheiss happens.

There was a tinge of this in school - 40s' & 50s - my fathers teachers that I had a moment to learn from ... then it was ... gone. God rest 'em. God rest you Ms. Brown.

Oh, I can attest that Mrs. Lynch who taught 3rd Grade at 156th Street School in Gardena, California, in 1955, taught her pupils that America was right and the Soviet Union was wrong. And when I came home in the afternoon, I watched Victory At Sea on the television. And since my father was a (secular) Jew and my mother (ambiguously) Christian, religious pluralism rather than sectarian enthusiasm was the focus of the household in which I grew up. Country came First, even while my parents were registered Democrats.
...

Also, the hour is late, lizards, and tomorrow I must try to convince myself that I should continue painting the kitchen, at least for a couple of hours. So, I'll find some way appropriately to commemorate 9/11. I am not particularly demonstrative. I'll not fly the flag, I but have already lent financial support to McCain's efforts to secure the White House and to keep it in the care of patriots.

Be brave, lizards, but be polite.

I was up at my dads in Ottawa having breakfast listening to the radio. heard about the first plane crash, and turned on the t.v. for the second one. Spent the rest of the morning and afternoon on the couch curled up in a comforter because I was so cold. It was a beautiful day too, temperature wise.

OK, I haven't left quite yet. ... I don't have a way to display it, but I do have a Disabled Veterans U.S. flag sticker affixed to the window on my front door.

I'll confess, during the Viet Nam War, I was a conscientious objector. I was kind of a hippie, but not a lefty; naively I believed in pure pacifism. Only later in life (Gulf War I) did I come to understand that Plato had the truth: "only the dead know an end to war" and that some wars were not only necessary but condign. You'll have to forgive my sluggish stupidity in this regard.

But I have been a bookish fellow all my life and not one for outward displays. Perhaps this will change, but for me the Word comes before the Show.

You may be right. Goethe wrote: In the Beginning was the Deed.

But this is not my intellectual heritage. I am with the Evangelist John: In the Beginning was the Word. And with Hegel: The Rational is the Real and the Real is the Rational.

But, as I have hinted, I incline toward indolence, and now I must sleep awhile.

Nevertheless, Country First!

re: #244 rawmuse

That was written in 2005...but still a provocative look into what may lie ahead...(As I recall -- back to 2001 -- the United States was utterly unprepared. In part the academics (the pro-Islamist academics, the Edward Saids and their ilk and their infiltration onto universities spreading their pro-Islam messages) lulled America into thinking about "pacifist" Islam, etc. I also recall that the Millennium, going into the year 2000, was focused on non-issues (many so-called "scholars" wrote books about the upcoming Millennium -- one I read detailed the entire history of the world, from the Chinese empires, to Islam -- but not a single mention of "jihad" -- and the authors would downplay any "violence" within the Islamic world...a complete whitewash...to even broach the topic of "violence" within Islam would have been considered "racist.") Yet actual actions prior to Sept. 11, 2001 told me that there was something deeply amiss about "Islam" -- particularly when the Taliban blew up the Buddhist statues -- that was a warning bell -- to which, of course, the world immediately ignored (I recall listening to, again, westerners trying to come to terms with the violence of the Taliban -- and again, how much they wanted to maintain the fiction of a "pacifist" Islam -- it was actually funny -- the ones most anxious to spread the word about how peaceful Islam was -- were Christian white women...they were the biggest supporters of Islam.) Then on the days prior to 9/11 -- I recall -- there was that Racism Conference held in Durban, South Africa -- and all the antisemites from the United Nations were there -- and it was a feeding frenzy against the West, Israel, America and everything civilized -- yet our Canadian media -- the CBC -- chose to again whitewash the murderous hatred that was so evident. The CBC "journalists" chose to make excuses for murderous antisemites and exonerate them (in effect, blaming the victims.) Then the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 11 arrived...(I knew instantly that it was a war and I knew who the enemy was...and it's not just the Islamists -- it includes many, many others -- the enablers.) I still believe that if the United States wishes to become secure, something needs to be done with respect to securing borders (immigration issues also need to be addressed), perhaps have a National ID card with biometrics; close the borders; stop the infiltration, etc. Even though it may be a bit late, there's still time...

Schools should teach both Creationism and Evolution. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both. Don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides.

No, they should not. Creationism is not science, it's religion, and it should not be taught as science.

Creationism is information-free; it is utterly comprised of religiously motivated, rhetorical and groundless attacks upon evolutionary theory, the only theory for which there exists empirical evidence - and mountains of it. It has nothing to teach that is appropriate for a public high school science class, any more than do astrology or alchemy.

As long as they teach Creationism in a religion class, and not in a science classroom, I wouldn't have a problem with that. You see, there's no credible science aspect of Creationism, or its thinly veiled cousin, ID.

Healthy debate is indeed important, but there's no real debate about what is, and what is NOT science. Evolution is a thoroughly developed, tested, and scientifically supported theory, which can be further tested and proven or disproven. The fundamentals of Creationism and ID, relying as they do upon the existence of a supreme being whose existence CANNOT be proven or disproven, fail to meet the criteria required for a scientific theory.

272 Amillennialist  Sun, Sep 14, 2008 12:51:22am

Would anyone claim that the code for this site appeared by only random, natural processes? The computer on which it runs?

We don't need "creation-based alternatives" taught, just the truth about Neo-Darwinian Evolutionary Theory.

We know that natural, random processes result in lateral speciation; Lenski's E. coli show that.

They also demonstrate that even after tens of thousands of generations, all you get is . . . E. coli, not newer, more complex genetic program, structure, and function.

Teach what we know is true:

-Life arises from only Life and Life's programs;

-No program arises apart from a programmer;

-The living cell is a highly-complex, Von Neumann-type metabolic machine;

-No one has ever observed random, natural processes result in vertical speciation. In fact, as Salamantis admits, no one can observe it!

-Evolutionists are confusing similarity in form, function, and code for evidence of descent, an illogical and unscientific assumption since it is contradicted by what we can observe.

Lateral speciation by evolutionary processes we can observe. That is good Science.

Vertical speciation occurring by only random, natural processes? No one's observed that, ever.
