The evil RethugliKKKans have built a time machine, and sent McCain back to make a new commercial, revising history and questioning our patriotism!

After watching the video preceding McCain's acceptance speech at the convention, the BF said he didn't need to hear a word he was going to say. It sealed the deal.

Notice the pronounced limp, but the Democrat's good friend, the N. Vietnamese Communist Community Organizers said they treated him well. He must have stubbed his toe going to the bathroom.

17 Desert Dog  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 9:39:37am

He is limping pretty bad there, isn't he? I cannot imagine having to endure what he did. Yet, somehow the left tries to diminish his heroism and suffering.

More courage, strength, and perseverance than I can even imagine.

I loved most of that video. It made his military and POW experience seem fresh, even though I've heard it a thousand times. I could have done without the "man of destiny" voiceover, though.

Anyone catch the nut-job who called Dennis Miller yesterday ranting that McCain gave up/surrendered to the Vietnamese? Let's see, your plane is shot down and you have multiple broken bones. You're in a country who's language you not only don't speak, but whose people you don't look like. You're in jungle. You're going to do what? Sprint to the beach because Charlie don't surf? Please. When he didn't take the Admiral's Son special release, he held out. That's guts.

When McCain won the primary's my initial reaction was disappointment even to the point of considering voting for Obama, no laughing. One of the first clues for me to reconsider my position was an interview McCain gain a few after he was released. I wish I could find it, he was very impressive and came across as exceptionally smart. This was long before he was thinking of running for public office. It was hard not to admire him.

What you notice about John McCain, that you don't see in most liberals, let alone Obama himself, is that even after being "forced" to go to war in the "unjust" Vietnam, being shot during "doing missions the brass knew would fail", and having been tortured and held in a P.O.W. camp by the enemy....he still LOVES his Country & does not see himself as a VICTIM!

That is exactly what America is about..... loyalty, self-sacrifice, and self-reliance!

G-d Bless America!

Here's Google translation (slightly cleaned by me) on the webpage. My Swedish sucks and my English is not the best either so I apologize possible errors.

A unique film from the moment when the Republican presidential candidate John McCain was acquitted in Vietnam has been detected in SVT's photo archive.

Reporter Erik Eriksson watched between 1968 and 1979 for the Vietnam War including SVT's behalf. Now, he has written the book "I saw love and death" for his years in Vietnam.

The discovered film
It was during work on the book and the accompanying DVD movie this summer that Erik Eriksson discovered that in his large quantity of film, there were pictures of a young John McCain.

The pictures show how the first American prisoners of war released in 1973. Among the prisoners is John McCain, who was combat pilot.

McCains campaign in the United States has made a large number of that John McCain is a war veteran who was injured and tortured when he was in captivity during the Vietnam War.

Halter easily (? My Swedish dictionary is missing. Sorry.)
When his warhistory is portrayed in American television, pictures of how McCain meets President Nixon after having surgery for his injuries, damage remained untreated during his captivity are often displayed. (of this translation I am very doubtful. Take it with lots of salt)

Erik Eriksson's images from the release show a McCain, somewhat limping, saluting a U.S. officer before his departure from the Hanois airport.

(Picture text: McCain meets Nixon, Photo: AP)

Senator McCain's positions differ from mine in several instances. However, in the end it is his conviction and willingness to sacrifice and ability to bear terrible burdens with grace that distinguish him as the type of character I want to see as President and Commander in Chief.

I think his strategists are brilliant to emphasise this part of his history given it is such a stark contrast with the blame America first crowd that dominates the left.

Now our friends on the left say that McCain was tormented, not tortured. I really wonder if Obama is asked if he thinks McCain was tortured if he could answer simply yes or no.

BTW, if this is below the belt today, I apologize, but this whole tormented versus tortured has bugged me for a while.

Having one's arms pulled from their sockets and one's teeth broken out is "abuse."

Having the air conditioning too high is "torture."

I hope this was some help.

Going to be interesting to see how President McCain interacts with Putin (KGB) in the future. I know he has come to terms with the Vietnamese - but I don't recall a similar group hug with the KGB. I'm sure everyone of those prisoners knew who was asking those questions during those torture sessions. They may even have had eyeballs on the KGB/GRUn guys occasionally.

Okay, we concede that McCain's years as POW may have been unpleasant; but how about a little sympathy for Obama, having to put up with all this 5-star hotel food? Eh? And sometimes, they've only been 4-star hotels, when he's had to visit these godawful holes in flyover country to make nice with the yokels (who for some unfathomable reason are allowed to vote)! So never let it be said that Obama doesn't understand sacrifice. He's lived it.

How come nobody has pointed out that it takes about 10 years to train an army and get it up to speed? It takes about two years just for an individual.
Training is kinder and gentler when it's done during peacetime.

It is amazing to recall the courage of those on Flight 93, John McCain, our Armed Services, and those ran into the twin towers knowing they could/would most likely die. If I am ever put into a situation like those I hope to have just 1/2 of what they have!

Wow. Some of the comments are pretty funny.

Wow.... for a religious historian she is painfully ignorant of the basic tennants of Christianity and how they apply to agency of mankind, forgiveness through Christ's atonement and unplanned teenage pregnancy. This is why the left so miserably misread mainstream American Christian's response to the pregnancy revelation and their respect for the Palin's courageous decision to face their responsibilities no matter how difficult.

She seems to be an expert in criticism of her chosen field of study but not an expert in understanding what she critiques. Of course critics are like people who hide in the woods during a battle - then run out when the fight is over to shoot the wounded.

I have a recurring thought that started out as a private joke and now seems to bear itself out more and more in reality... that those who accuse others of hatred and bigotry are voicing their own feelings in some sort of twisted exercise in group projection. re: #49 WrathofG-d

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER

JOHN MCCAIN IS A WINNER

Here in Texas you can't throw a rock without hitting a building, town, county, etc... that has been named after Crockett. I imagine that once John McCain has passed from this world Arizona will have tons of monuments named in honor of him as well. I wonder just how many tributes will be left for Algore, JKerry and BO? Maybe some community organizers will name a park bench or something but really I don't see them being remembered much do you?

As I recall, Kerry already has a tribute in North Viet Nam.

Look how stiff he walks and how he limps. I thought that the POWS had such an easy time of it.

Sigh.

I can't imagine the horrors he endured. He had my vote, reluctantly at first, but now he has it with enthusiasm.

180 Shr_Nfr  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 1:08:14pm

Boy, those salutes must have really hurt. But yet he did them. I salute him and those who served, but never enough to compensate them for their valor.

Mr. President

182 Used2bL  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 2:08:21pm

I read somewhere that John McCain's arms have stiffened up to the point that he cannot salute anymore. Is this true? He saluted fine in this video.

183 YMedad  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 2:16:58pm

Following on #182, that's what occured to me. If he arms can't be raised now due to the torture, why was he able then to salute so neatly. I'm sure there's an explanation and it should be out there before this becomes an issue.

re: #103 DistantThunder

According to Obama - evil is parents who mistreat their children - no mention of AlQueda or SAddam.

If he feels that way why did he expose them to that "g-d damn" america pastor of his? Now that's mistreatment.

185 Intifan  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 3:29:12pm

CNN is just covering this video now. Ha ha. Go LGF!

Damn fine looking man. OK, I'm a red blooded American girl.

So anyway, I'm getting coffee and next to me a liberal mind meld erupts about Palin's alleged flip flop on the bridge to nowhere. So queen lib says, 'yeah, she voted against it before she voted for it.' Had to laugh at the ridiculous irony.

I'd like to she the archive video of Obama contemplating whether to sign up for selective service..

If you misread my comment what I ment was that expecting him to escape was totally unrealistic.

re: #63 Purre
Your translation is pretty good.
The translation to "halter easily" should really be "has a slight limp" or "somewhat limping". There is an article at a Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter (www.dn.se) that has the same basic text, but more elaborated. The point of the text is to imply that he only has a slight limp, so he really wasn't hurt much when he was in captivity. It's not said out loud, but it is insinuated.

The commentator in the clip notes that McCain is the son of a high military, and the question whether he received special treatment because of it is being discussed in USA today (ie 1973)

Here's an edited translation of the text:

A unique film from the moment when the Republican presidential candidate John McCain was released in Vietnam has been found in SVT's photo archive.

Reporter Erik Eriksson covered the Vietnamn war between 1968 and 1979 on SVT's behalf. Now, he has written the book "I saw love and death" from his years in Vietnam.

The discovered film
It was during work on the book and the accompanying DVD movie this summer that Erik Eriksson discovered that in his large quantity of film, there were pictures of a young John McCain.

The pictures show how the first American prisoners of war released in 1973. Among the prisoners is John McCain, who was a combat pilot.

McCains campaign in the United States has made a big show of that John McCain is a war veteran who was injured and tortured when he was in captivity during the Vietnam War.

Somewhat limping
When his warhistory is portrayed in American television, there's often a display of pictures from McCain meeting President Nixon after having surgery for his injuries, injuries that remained untreated during his captivity.

Erik Eriksson's images from the release show a McCain, somewhat limping, saluting a U.S. officer before his departure from the Hanois airport.

(Picture text: McCain meets Nixon, Photo: AP)

Also note that the pictures where taken by a north vietnamese photographer that had access to the airport, and later sent to the Swedish reporter.

That piece was by a college professor? Did I miss something? Most of the comments I scanned through were pretty good! She gets skewered by most. What a effing twit.
