YouTube Cracking Down on Jihad Videos?

Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:56:34 pm PDT

Joe Lieberman has apparently gotten some results in his attempt to persuade YouTube to do the right thing: YouTube Yanks Radical Islamist Videos After Lieberman’s Complaint.

YouTube has heeded the call to stop featuring radical Islamists’ video clips.

“Google’s community guidelines for YouTube will now bar videos that incite violence, in addition to videos that contain hate speech and gratuitous violence,” Sen. Joe Lieberman said in Washington on Thursday.

“YouTube was being used by Islamist terrorist organizations to recruit and train followers via the Internet and to incite terrorist attacks around the world, including right here in the United States, and Google should be commended for recognizing that,” he said. “I expect these stronger community guidelines to decrease the number of videos on YouTube produced by Al Qaeda and affiliated Islamist terrorist organizations.”

Joe Lieberman is kicking ass.
Maybe Google will yield too?

Good on Joe.

They have to make something to remember 9/11.
For got sake, on memorial day they don't do jack. I can't imagine Google cracking down on Jihadist videos with much enthusiasm.

5 rightwinger3  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 12:59:28pm

It's great that Joe did this, but Google and YouTube should have just done the right thing in the first place.

That's a novel idea, quit enabling the enemy.

If McCain had not chosen Sarah Palin, I would have eagerly gotten behind a McCain-Lieberman ticket. He 'gets it' on the dire necessity to vigorously and steadfastly prosecute the GWOT.

Good for Lieberman. And it's about damn time, YouTube/Google.

2: How about Al Jazeera? Don't they have a special YouTube channel? Does this policy only apply to Al Qaida media or to Hezbollah too?

Any further comment from me will earn a whack of Stinky's stick.

Don't mean to be crass here but sitting at home in the dead center of where Hurricane Ike is supposed to go, taking a break from readying the house for us to evacuate.....I am struck how no one in the MSM seems to be all that concerned for us. Very unlike two weeks ago where New Orleans was in the target zone. I guess since Texas has a history of just bootstrapping itself back to normal and not whining about it, we have not activated the Michael Moore God meter yet.

Just to let you know, the first rain bands came through Galveston about an hour ago. But now it is sunny. Galveston county is under evacutattion notice now. The I-45 Freeway is jammed going north but things are going ok. Most gas stations in the area are sold out. A lot of people are still waiting to make the decision to leave. I know people always cluck cluck when someone decides to ride out the storm but it is a very difficult decision to make.

“Google’s community guidelines for YouTube will now bar videos that incite violence, in addition to videos that contain hate speech and gratuitous violence,” Sen. Joe Lieberman said in Washington on Thursday.

This wording makes it a slippery slope. Who defines "hate speech"? What constitutes gratuitous violence?

Does this video go as hateful speech?

Do Animai flicks disappear as gratuitous violence? An A-10 airstrike in Afghanistan?

Yeah I saw the news conferences. He and the county judge seem quite competent, although Texas also had to learn from mistakes in Rita and Allison.

Regarding idiots, I think they simply hold/held more power in LA, but I'll retract my explanation and say this instead:

Everybody only cares about New Orleans. Even the suburbs and counties outside
it which were hit much more severely by Katrina struggled to get any attention even then. And with Gustav places like Houma and Baton Rouge got hit worse than NOLA did.

Candidates statements.

Republican John McCain, in Shanksville, Pa.:

No American living then should ever forget the heroism that occurred in the skies above this field on Sept. 11, 2001. It is believed that the terrorists on United Flight 93 may have intended to crash the airplane into the United States Capitol. Hundreds if not thousands of people would have been at work in that building when that fateful moment occurred, and been destroyed along with a beautiful symbol of our freedom. They and, very possibly I, owe our lives to the passengers who summoned the courage and love necessary to deny our depraved and hateful enemies their terrible triumph.

I have witnessed great courage and sacrifice for America's sake, but none greater than the sacrifice of those good people who grasped the gravity of the moment, understood the threat, and decided to fight back at the cost of their lives.

I spoke at the memorial service for one of them, Mark Bingham. I acknowledged that few of us could say we loved our country as well as he and all the heroes of Sept. 11 had. The only means we possess to thank them is to try to be as good an American as they were. We might fall well short of their standard, but there is honor in the effort.

In the Gospel of John it is written, 'Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.' Such was their love; a love so sublime that only God's love surpasses it. I am in awe of it as much as I am in debt to it. May God bless their souls.

Democrat Barack Obama, in e-mailed statement:

Today, we honor the memory of the lives that were lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and grieve with the families and friends who lost someone they loved in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pa. We will never forget those who died. We will always remember the extraordinary efforts of our firefighters, police and emergency responders, and those who sacrificed their own lives on Flight 93 to protect their fellow Americans. And we give thanks for the Americans defending us every day in our communities at home, and in our military abroad.

On 9/11, Americans across our great country came together to stand with the families of the victims, to donate blood, to give to charity, and to say a prayer for our country. Let us renew that spirit of service and that sense of common purpose. Let us remember that the terrorists responsible for 9/11 are still at large, and must be brought to justice. Let us resolve to defeat terrorist networks, defend the American homeland, stand up for the enduring American values that we cherish, and seek a new birth of freedom at home and around the world.

re: #62 MagnaniomousCoward

My take is that it wasn't even offered to him by Bob Barr.
Bob Barr did not show up at the conference because there was a falling out with Ron Paul staff. See below.

Sounds to me more like Bob Barr is being pressured to drop out and instead his VP candidate offered to drop out for him and the PAULIANS were insulted.

I would say not.......just games .........

Just a sample below:
Behind the scenes, there is pressure being exerted on LNC members to bring forth a motion to “un-endorse” Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root, and either replace them with alternative candidates, or leave the ticket empty. It is said by advocates that this is the only way the Libertarian Party’s brand can be salvaged after Bob Barr’s no-show at yesterday’s Campaign for Liberty event and the subsequent fall-out.

On a more grassroots level, an activist has started a petition for Libertarians to state their support for the removal of Barr to be replaced with someone other than Root. [Link: www.independentpoliticalreport.com...]

Barr campaign manager: ‘Bush showed incredible leadership’, criticizes Ron Paul and followers
September 11th, 2008 · 24 Comments

Russ Verney, the campaign manager of the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee says that President George W. Bush showed “incredible leadership as he stood atop a fire truck amidst the rubble of the twin towers to rally America.”

Verney then compares Bush’s “incredible leadership” to the “leadership” exhibited by Libertarian VP nominee Wayne Allyn Root in offering to illegally step down as Bob Barr’s running mate in deference to Ron Paul.

Then Verney goes on to criticize Ron Paul, saying the Campagin for Liberty’s historic announcement yesterday was not about “promoting the liberty agenda; it was about promoting a man.

After rumors were spread in advance of the news conference that Bob Barr was dropping from the race - just to hype the event - I became even more hesitant to attend. Those tactics were unacceptable and when asked about it, Ron Paul’s staff simply smiled and said it would attract the press.

Funny thing, no 9/11 remembrance on either the google or yahoo sites.

.............better watch it Joe, the rest of the Connecticut Democratic Party may try and take your breathing privileges. It's bad enough that you are supporting McCain, NOW you are out after the poor Islamic Terrorists. Shame on you Joe. (sarc)

Great.

This means the world really did end yesterday and we were all sucked into some backwards parallel universe.

On the positive side, I kinda like it here.

re: #174 Rancher

Sounds ready to hand it over.

If bo tries to dump biden for the Hill. I dont think she will go for it. She's now expecting him to lose and she can set herself up for 2012. No way is she going in 2nd fiddle.

Of course there are, they got sucked in too.

I don't know if it's possible for CERN to create a moonbat-specific black hole, but we can always ask.

re: #15 Big Steve

Don't mean to be crass here but sitting at home in the dead center of where Hurricane Ike is supposed to go, taking a break from readying the house for us to evacuate.....I am struck how no one in the MSM seems to be all that concerned for us. Very unlike two weeks ago where New Orleans was in the target zone. I guess since Texas has a history of just bootstrapping itself back to normal and not whining about it, we have not activated the Michael Moore God meter yet.

They're all busy being concerned about Darfur.

Ha! My dad used to take great joy in turning his union 'voter's guide' into confetti as soon as he pulled it out of the mailbox.

Yea I really let them have it when they sent out an email to all of our union members telling us wal mart actually had the audacity to try and tell their employees how to vote.

re: #137 jcmYup, hundreds or thousands of those terrorists who aided or were allied with or later joined in support of the 19 hijackers are dead or in custody, including Sheik whatshisname in Gitmo getting all-too infrequent waterboarding.

I think half the population of Houston has been driving around completely lost in Dallas today.

Speech, no matter how hateful, should be permitted.

Speech that is inciting to violence or is untrue should not.
