Same with healthcare and anything else the government touches.

Obama's unofficial campaign song needs to be Holiday in Cambodia.

So you been to school
For a year or two
And you know youve seen it all
In daddys car
Thinkin youll go far
Back east your type dont crawl

Play ethnicky jazz
To parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
Braggin that you know
How the n*****s feel cold
And the slums got so much soul

Its time to taste what you most fear
Right guard will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear

Its a holiday in cambodia
Its tough, kid, but its life
Its a holiday in cambodia
Dont forget to pack a wife

Youre a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leach
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you bitch
So you can get rich
But your boss gets richer off you

Well youll work harder
With a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers
Till you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son.

Is a holiday in cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in cambodia
Where youll kiss ass or crack

Pol pot, pol pot, pol pot, pol pot, etc.

And its a holiday in cambodia
Where youll do what youre told
A holiday in cambodia
Where the slums got so much soul

Funny to see how Obama talks about how to keep our Military up to date, when he hasn't served one-stinkin' day in the military.

He talks and talks and talks. About "sacred obligation". Yet he didn't sign up, he didn't enlist and serve.

And he still talks.

There's a reason why I didn't teach math. Just paying folks money doesn't mean you'll get good teachers.

Has the draft become a leftist cause?

It is weird how the left keeps insinuating that bringing back the draft is desirable. Like most things leftists seem to support, I suspect their motives are not honorable.

More likely the left understands that you undermine the military by forcing people to serve who don't want to. That's exactly why the Pentagon opposes bringing back the draft. The AVF has worked better than anyone predicted. It's funny because the left hoped the AVF would undermine the military.

The left is not just wrong about issues, they are 180 degrees out.

Obama....
He left community service because he didn't make any money at it. He didn't want to end up poor like his father...he wanted a family and the money to support him.

Thank him for his service, but this altruistic "lifetime" is not actually accurate.

I don't care about volunteerism from the major canidates right now...I care about the Economy, the War, the price of Oil, etc. Like you can't be a member of the National Honor Society without donating time somewhere. If you stay home and study really hard, you are penalized...

And while we are patting Obama for his Community actions....and even John McCain for his service....it is people like Cindy McCain who really should be commended. Yes she has the money, but boy she makes good use of it and her time.

Saddleback was much better. The fawning Judy Woodruft and her agenda and that whinny person from Time magazine and his hauty attitudes...

Condescending and gave no insight into much of anything....waste of two hours of TV time.

re: #263 iceman1960

Actually it was a pretty lame forum.

lame forum, but good to see the candidates

should have been an easy one for Obama but he struggled - think he was trying against every instinct in him to move to the center and he was inarticulate and uncomfortable.

McCain did well and I was happy he kept pointing out that gov need not step in where private sector is doing well

re: #263 iceman1960

Actually it was a pretty lame forum.

Calling it a "forum" was a bit of an overstatement. The last "forum" I saw was the facade at the Demoncrap convention.

In reality, this "forum" was demonstrative of the feel-good and vapid approach to problems that liberals take. Rather than looking at facts and analyzing the situation, liberals are motivated by emotion. Nowhere was this better evidenced than the tingles which were running through the audience's legs.

re: #10 pingjockey

WTF is Judy getting her info? JOs aren't jumping ship.

Yes, they are.

Last year, the Army had a shortage of 3,000 captains and majors, a deficit that is expected to double by 2010. Fifty-eight percent of the West Point class of 2002 left active duty when their obligation to serve expired in 2007. Reversing these and other troubling signs will be critical to improving the health of the U.S. military.

I'm not saying this to be mean, but this is what happens when you have a President who didn't have parents, per se. He wants government to do the job.

He keeps says that JohnMcCain "doesn't get it". I think it's him.

Oh I don't think that is it my friend.. I really don't..
I don't think most of us would exchange the gov't parents for real ones..
Little old lady. My mom got pregant when she was 17 with me..unmarried
until she was 22.
She could have taken the easy road in high school and ditched me..
my mother never had a fall bak support group...he mother died when she was only 8 years old..her father was not around..She never had the gov. of a state to make sure everything would always be ok..
It was just her and me..her baby boy...
I was the ring boy when she married my dad...I think things turned out pretty damn good..so tell me how the gov. was involved in the strength and love of my mom?
/better stop now huh?

No, it made perfect sense. And you're right--your mother took care of you, raised you, and had a job and ran the household by herself, without a government handout. That is something that we don't ask most single mothers to do today. I think it would prove to them how strong they are, but then I wasn't in that position. So I can't say.

280 SagamoreGal  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 7:10:54pm

Here's one thing "Teddy" (though he loathed that moniker and no friends or family ever called him that after his father died during his Harvard years) said about civic duty"

"In the unending strife for civic betterment, small is the use of those people who mean well, but who mean well feebly. The man who counts is the man who is decent and makes himself felt as a force for decency, for cleanliness, for civic righteousness."

TR - after dinner speech at Columbia University -April 19, 1902 (ed - TR attended law school at Columbia in the 1880's but never graduated because it was during his law school years that both his first wife and mother died on the same day and in the same house).

Obama is outright peddling Socialism / Communism.

Of course. But he's gussied it all up in words like 'hope' and 'change,' and taken all the scary Euro-totalitarianism out of it. Consequently, he's made it a very appealing option to those who want to spend their entire life sucking on the teat of the federal government.

Please check out the links I posted in the other thread on Demographics in the military. It is not poor urban dwellers. The misinformation on the composition is incredibly prevalent.

If you really want to have an eye-opener look at the combat arms composition. The military actually published study in response to Rangel's ramblings about the draft a few years ago. It got little coverage.

Of course Obama won! Didn't you get the memo?

Even if Obama had spent the entire forum babbling incoherent or even bizarre answers, the hosts would have clarified his position for him, then later proclaimed his "vision" for making the public reason out his views, instead of simply stating them.

285 snuffyword  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 7:19:32pm

I find it amazing that O talked about providing opportunities for high school students and college students to volunteer. I could have sworn that the opportunities have always been there. They just need to go out and look for them. Get in touch with your community and you will find all sorts of volunteer opportunities.

286 JacksonTn  Thu, Sep 11, 2008 7:21:10pm

When he was asked about when he "thought" about joining the military but didn't he said something like it is more important to volunteer for the military during times of war --- WE ARE AT WAR YOU IDIOT. So is he going to advise the kidz over at kos to volunteer now.

The more I hear this guy the more I cannot stand him and I believe the average American cannot follow his long long long answers and lose interest. John McCain gets the average American - short and sweet answers.

re: #273 JustMyView

This has been going on for awhile. I don't believe it is a symptom of the current "stress" on the military. The biggest factor is the incredible gap between officer pay and what those same men and women are capable of earning outside of the military. Other factors are the incredibly competitive promotion structure which basically means one bruise on your record and its second tier status for the rest of your career.

I don't believe the answer is keeping more west pointers in; I believe we need to bring more mustangs up. Increase MECEP and OCS to grow small unit leaders internally.

OT

I think it would be fun to do a thread sometime with ideas for political ads. The outline of this one has been in my head for about a week now.
*****************
Title: The Present

During his seven years in the Illinois state senate, Barack Obama voted "Present" 130 times. He was there for the vote, but unable to commit to a yes or no answer.

In just four years in the United States Senate, Senator Obama has continued this pattern. On 40% of all votes cast in the Senate, he didn't vote at all--a whopping 226 votes.

America needs an executive who does more than just show up. America needs an executive who served the people more than 60% of the time. Barack Obama is not ready to lead.

McCain/Palin 2008
******************
I'm not very clever at this sort of thing, but I can see the junior senator from Illinois' apparent unwillingness to do the people's business being a significant issue for the electorate.

"We didn't have this vote--"Present"--when I was mayor of New York City."--Rudy Giuliani

From Investors Business Daily

Election '08: Democrats' reintroduction of militant Michelle Obama in Denver was supposed to show her softer side. But it only highlighted a radical part of her resume: Public Allies.

Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, "Universal Voluntary Public Service."

Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they'll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of "social change."

The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn't seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year "community leadership" positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They'll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.

In exchange, they'll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.

But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about "social change" through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation — the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul "The Red" Alinsky.

"Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities," Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for "justice" and "equality" in his hometown of Chicago and other U.S. cities, including Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington. "I get to practice being an activist," and get paid for it, gushed Cincinnati recruit Amy Vincent.

Public Allies promotes "diversity and inclusion," a program paper says. More than 70% of its recruits are "people of color." When they're not protesting, they're staffing AIDS clinics, handing out condoms, bailing criminals out of jail and helping illegal aliens and the homeless obtain food stamps and other welfare.

Public Allies brags that more than 80% of graduates have continued working in nonprofit or government jobs. It's training the "next generation of nonprofit leaders" — future "social entrepreneurs."

The Obamas discourage work in the private sector. "Don't go into corporate America," Michelle has exhorted youth. "Work for the community. Be social workers." Shun the "money culture," Barack added. "Individual salvation depends on collective salvation."

...

Many of today's youth find the pitch attractive. "I may spend the rest of my life trying to create social movement," said Brian Coovert of the Cincinnati chapter. "There is always going to be work to do. Until we have a perfect country, I'll have a job."

314 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Fri, Sep 12, 2008 5:08:43am

Did the Dali Bama just diss Palin when he said "we senators just yak, but mayors have a tough job like filling potholes, trimming trees, and taking care of garbage."? It sure sounded like a slap to me.

315 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Fri, Sep 12, 2008 5:18:17am

And by the way, I hope Palin's first item of business when she does get sworn in is to "take out the garbage." It would be great if Barry were in that bag o' trash.

316 countryjoe63  Fri, Sep 12, 2008 8:36:19am

Obama had the GALL to say the President didn't expand upon the unity right after 9/11/01. Senator Obama, how tough is it for the president to do that when you have CHURCH LEADERS (I.E. Jerramiah Wright) saying "no no no, it's not God Bless America, but God **** America".
