Tech Note: Categorizing the Premises

Science | Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 6:03:56 pm PDT

A new addition: LGF front page articles are now categorized, with a limited set of broad categories brazenly lifted from Yahoo’s Buzz categories as described on this page.

Deliberate simplicity is often the best solution, but I can easily add more categories as needed. For example, I’ve added “Open” (for open threads), and any article in that category will not have the “sharing” links (to Buzz, Digg, Newsvine, Reddit, and del.icio.us).

  • Comments are open and unmoderated, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Little Green Footballs.
  • Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their views by Little Green Footballs.
  • Posts that contain phone numbers, street addresses, email addresses or other personal information will also be deleted, as will posts that consist only of a variation on the word, "First!"
  • Comments that advocate violence will be cause for immediate banning with no appeal.
  • Disagreement and debate are welcome, but insults and abuse are not, and may cause your account to be blocked.
  • REMEMBER: posting comments at LGF is a privilege, not a right. Abuse that privilege, and your account will be blocked.

I require more categories!

Please institute "ARGUMENT" for creationism threads, "FUTILE ARGUMENT" for threads mentioning Serbia or Kosovo, "WHAAA....?" for computer code threads, and "HOT!" for Palin threads.

Hey did you see my note earlier? If you are going to drop out a bit for work you can use the pre-dated post thing in wordpress to autopop some of your finer old posts while you are busy. I did it while on vacation, the traffic held at normal level while I was gone 13 days.

No need. I already have 23 brand-new posts all ready to go as "drafts." All I have to do is press "publish" and they're online.

OT, I met Noam Chompsky today at a bar for some drinks and talk, and he is a super-nice guy with the same beliefs and values as I, so it was a pleasure meeting him! We are planning on another meet next month, second Sunday of the month at Manuals at 5 PM. We invite all metro Atlanta lizards to attend! (It gets sort of boring with only two people and you agree on most issues.....)

33 zombie  Sun, Sep 14, 2008 6:23:36pm

And for threads like this one where you can't get people to comment for the life of you, label them "CONE OF SILENCE."

Militant group in Niger Delta declares war on oil industry

LAGOS (AFP) - The most prominent militant group in oil-rich southern Nigeria on Sunday said it had declared an "oil war" and threatened all international industry vessels that approach the region.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta ( MEND ) said in an email to the media it has code-named its operation Hurricane Barbarossa.

Lieberman: Wash. state may clench win for McCain

Washington state could be in the national spotlight come election day, Sen. Joe Lieberman said during a stop in Seattle on Sunday.

[snip]

Lieberman said McCain would not continue the Bush legacy. The senator from Connecticut, who often has McCain's ear, also said McCain's running mate Sarah Palin is a very good choice who is capable of stepping up as the president if the need arises.

"Governor Palin will be ready. She's a strong, confident, smart person who has had some executive experience," Lieberman said.

Missed it, but still remember the shock of watching the second jet liner crash into the WTC. God bless those that died and their families. A special prayer for those brave Americans who died fighting on flight 93! No other nationality would of acted as bravely as the passengers on flight 93. You will always be in our hearts. I only argue with my assistant director, we both consider ourselves libertarians, but he votes Democrat and I vote Republican. But we have good fun arguing and both of us come away enlightened one-way or the other. It was funny a couple of weeks ago he offered me an "attaboy" at the last staff meeting, he started out with the preamble of "As much as it pains me, blah, blah blah" It was a funny moment in our meeting, and I am feeling pretty good how my department is pulling together after a year of being in dis-array from a purchasing scandal..

The pitiful Zero slew the Hildabeast and dreamed he had rendered the genderasp harmless. He returned to his minions to celebrate his supposed triumph. "This victory is the victory we have been waiting for" he proclaimed.

No sooner had their cheers died did they turn to behold the SarahHydra. At the behest of the McC U.S. she was called to battle the minions of ignorance. In their fury, the minions lashed out blindly, attacking the many headed menace, only to find that each time they severed one head, two would grow in its place. In his fear, the Zero removed his gloves (for the fifth time) and attempted to enjoin in battle but the SarahHydra proved elusive. "I will call on the Mediasaurus to battle in my place" Zero thought , but his hopes were in vain. Those who were loathe to support the McC U.S. were rallied and the tide of battle was reversed. The Mediasaurus retreated in disgrace and confusion, their strengthth and power forever diminished.

Return to Illinoisus, Zero, and get your shinebox.
