Daily Kos Joke of the Day

Politics | Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 8:37:31 am PDT

You’ve got to be kidding. The Daily Kos Kids are pushing a “tracking poll” — as if they have any credibility at all as an impartial source of information: Daily Kos: 9/16 Daily Kos R2K Tracking Poll: Obama 48, McCain 44.

These are the same people who openly advocate lying in order to win the election, who have a justly deserved reputation for being the home of some of the nastiest dirty tricks and smears in modern politics, who posted information on forging presidential press passes, who erupted in hatred and vengeful comments over the deaths of Tim Russert and Tony Snow.

Now watch the mainstream media use them as a source.

If the poll is taken of people who go to Kos, then I'm surprised it isn't 0bama 110%.
What site ran the poll?

13 jorline  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 8:44:41am

Even though Kos is pushing the poll...it's almost within the margin of error.

What does that say for the Kos and the left...trouble in Obamaland.

14 Wyatt Earp  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 8:45:13am

They forgot a decimal point. McCain only gets 4.4 percent over at Daily Kooks.

15 lawhawk  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 8:45:23am

DKos is polling? That's rich. Let them use that as a source. Let the media lap it up. Then, ask DKos and the media to go ask Sen. Ned Lamont for his expert opinion on how things worked out.

I can't believe that these folks honestly believe what they're writing. And if they're trying to astroturf or otherwise try to prepare the battlefield of politics with bogus data to support their claims (hoping that the bogus information gets repeated enough that it is treated as fact), it will blow back in their face especially if the Obama campaign relies on the data from DKos rather than from established and more reputable outlets.

16 yma o hyd  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 8:45:51am

Heh - let them make up their victorious polls!
All it'll do is lull them into a false sense of security, i.e. a safe win for the B0.
That means in practice they'll not bother voting as the win is in the bag anyway, per their polls.

Will be a terrible awakening on Nov 5th ...

17 Golem Akbar  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 8:46:00am

How does this go again: 97.5% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

That's got about as much credibility as Prisonplanet.com polls asking what percentage of Americans believe 9/11 was an inside job.

According to my latest figures, the Klingon demographic, which was originally tied between both parties (finding both McCain and Obama lacking in honor), supports Palin by 67%, which a margin of error of batleth-in-your-face.

25 lawhawk  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 8:49:50am

In other, more important news, oil is now approaching $90. It bounced off $90.50, but is still down several dollars from yesterday's close. The slump in oil prices means that the feds might have more leeway to cut interest rates without inflationary concerns since the biggest feeder of inflation these days is none other than energy costs.

This is the first time in "years" I've actually enjoyed Greta.
Somebody should get word to her that she is a very good interviewer of interesting people, and very few like to watch her "investigate" young dead (or possibly dead) girls much.
I noted she didn't ask much about politics to either Sarah Palin or Todd Palin. She asked a bunch of things that just had generic "interest value", and did it in a pleasant way.
She looked like she was enjoying herself and having a pleasant time.

Actually I found Greta to be embarrassing. She kept on and on about "first dude", she should have canned it after 1 minute. Otherwise, yeah Todd come across as a real man's man and millions of Reagan Democrats will be able to connect to him as a man.

Fine.

Take a peek at the most legitimately mainstream outlets there -- USNWR, I guess, and New Republic -- and you'll notice they're using the Kos poll as a foil, to show that even among his dreamy-eyed admirers, he's losing.

Here's the deal: Yeah, anyone -- mainstream or not -- should be ashamed to city Daily Kos as a legit poll. Just don't expect it to show up on the front page of the Washington Post.

Someone pass then a bong, and maybe they won't notice until it's too late.

I read something yesterday, not sure where, that some people were certain that Bush "stole" the election because the exit polls showed Kerry winning. It's as if some folks think that polls are the real vote; and the real vote ought to be ignored if it ends up not matching the polls.

From your link:

Sarah Palin has many virtues. If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she’d be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness.

Of course, being a mayor and then a govenor -which means, among other things, learning how to govern, how to put together a budget and find the means to fund the budget, how to allocate resources among the vastness of the geographically largest state in the nation and how to oversea numerouos governmental agencies, doesn't count.
Being a community orgainizer in Chicago, apparently, as Brooks would see it, is better training for the Presidency.

Sure, they don't want their supporters or donors to jump ship or lose interest if they think the candidate doesn't stand a chance in hell.

So they will hype all their big poll numbers exactly like they did with John Kerry--believing there was NO way Kerry could lose.

The same was done when GWB began to go up --the Dems conducted their own polls which showed Kerry way ahead.

I actually don't disagree with him in principle. Palin has only been Governor for two years, and though admittedly, she has done a lot in that time to get credit for, she lacks the depth of experience present in some other likely Republican picks.

The problem with this analysis is that it isn't applicable to actually casting a vote. You can second-guess McCain's choice, but at this point the voters have to pick the best ticket.

If Palin (who actually has held elected executive office) is unqualified to be President now, then for sure Obama is unqualified, with the major caveat that Palin isn't actually running for President!

An inverted ticket (eg Biden-Obama vs. McCain-Palin) would be much more comparable in terms of experience levels, but as things are now, if experience is the determining factor, its a no-brainer which ticket is the stronger.

156 Nancy  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 9:37:19am

Despite broken arm, First Dude crosses Iron Dog finish in fourth

By Tim Mowry Fairbanks Daily News-Miner

FAIRBANKS - Not only is he the First Dude, but Todd Palin is one tough dude.

The husband of Gov. Sarah Palin, or First Dude, as Alaskans have come to call him, survived a high-speed crash on Friday in which he broke his arm and had to be towed across the Chena River finish line in Fairbanks on Saturday after his snowmachine died, but he still finished the world's longest, toughest snowmachine race in fourth place.

Not bad considering that just the day before he was lying in the snow, curled up in the fetal position after crashing into a hidden barrel outside the village of Galena.

Of course, the governor would expect nothing less.

"The last thing he ever wants to do is scratch," she said as she waited for her husband to arrive in the sub-zero cold on the Chena River at Pike's Landing. "If there's any way he can finish the race, he's going to finish it."
...
The governor found out about the crash from people following the race on the Internet.

"I started getting e-mails from people saying, 'I'm sorry to hear about your husband' and 'I'm praying for you' and I said, 'Oh my God, what happened?"' she said, laughing.

It wasn't until Todd Palin called his wife from Galena shortly after the crash to tell her he was OK that she got the straight scoop. And even then, her husband left a few things out. "He said, 'I got bumped around a little bit,"' Gov. Palin said. "He didn't tell me he'd been to a clinic to get looked at or anything.'"

Palin ain't got the book larnin', apparently. G-d knows what Brooks would have thought about Lincoln.

There is a divide over her which goes across political lines, but fractures along class lines. Conservative pundits who come from the Top School Consensus Machine are almost as uneasy about her as the leftwingers.

I got this "poll" in the e-mail yesterday from the RNC (I think it was).
I "voted" that Palin was an excellent choice for V.P.
They wanted comments. My comment was pretty short.
I wrote "Sarah Palin is too inexperienced to be politically corrupt".

IMO that sentiment sums up several concerns the Conservative pundits have.

I think David Brooks has become a bit of a snob since he started writing a column for the NYT, and I think he's wrong about Palin. However, I have to defend two books of his that I've read and loved. "Bobos in Paradise" and "On Paradise Drive" are hilarious, insightful, and thought-provoking. "Bobos," in particular, nails down the dilemma of the "bohemian bourgeousie," those leftover hippies who make surprisingly large salaries in academia and non-profits and are still trying to cling to their left-wing values while living in suburbia. I recommend them both.

I remember when they said Gore took Florida in 2000. I thought to myself, "That can't be right." I looked it up and Bush was not only ahead in Florida, but he was ahead by thousands of votes when I checked. I remember when they said exit polls indicated that Kerry was going to win in a landslide. I ignored them, kept on working, comfortable with the knowledge that Bush was really winning, this time I didn't even check.
I believed that Obama would lose before I ever heard of Sarah Palin. Why? Because nobody will tell the truth in the polls. They can't. Neither the Hispanics, the Jews, or the Catholics will be too favorable to a black President. It's stupid, but I think, true. They will never admit it.
Of course, now, McCain will win in a landslide.

It's funny to hear them talk about experience, like they give a shit. Hillary? Riding her husbands coattails. What the hell has she done? Obama has done shit. A whole country full of experienced Democrats and these are their top runners? The only factors that matter are imagery and ideology and they know it. That is why they run who they run. But now they have just been butchered in the imagery department, and all they can do is go into denial and make it worse. Sarah Palin is flawed? Which of their politicians isn't? Joe Biden's "experience" led him to note how "clean and articulate" Obama is. Yes, what a shock, Joe, not like all those other - whoops! What the hell would a guy like this say to Putin? Experience? Me and 50 other people who post here would make great Presidents. Native intelligence, principles, and sensible ideology is all that is necessary. But maybe we wouldn't do so well with the imagery.

Another thing going on: They are angry that their attempt to define the "liberated woman" as an ideological leftist is now a thing of the past.

Among the tings I have learned from The Daily Kos is that Hamas is the last hope for peace in the middle east.

Are the KOS results percentages, or do they only get 100 readers a day?

re: #24 JamesTKirk

According to my latest figures, the Klingon demographic, which was originally tied between both parties (finding both McCain and Obama lacking in honor), supports Palin by 67%, which a margin of error of batleth-in-your-face.

Dammit Jim. I'm a doctor, not a pollster!

190 RossM3838  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 12:09:35pm

I think that people lie to pollsters is not because they want to hide their bigotry as that they are sick of polls and sick of their invasion of their privacy. I have always answered pollsters honestly but I like to tell my opinions to anyone who asks politely. But even I am getting sick of them.

re: #116 buzzsawmonkey

I'm kind of personable to the story of Pinocchio in it when the young boys are led to an island where any thing goes and one can get away with anything (as long as its considered a victimless crime) Sounds like what the Dem's want to allow to happen in the US but if we learn anything from the story the boys all turn into jackasses.

No joke. We may as well change our state slogan to "Property of the DNC." Or, as my fiancee put it, "Property of the Girly Men."

and there poll is still within the margin of error.
