Redefining Denial

Politics | Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 10:37:18 am PDT

Many were skeptical of Taheri’s report that Barack Obama had asked Iraqi officials to delay a security agreement until after the elections, and the Obama campaign denied it—but their denial is actually a confirmation of Taheri’s article.

Obama’s national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said Taheri’s article bore “as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial.”

In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a “Strategic Framework Agreement” governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.

Yet another reason to question Obama's character and fitness to be President of the United States.

I don't think this will stick but I don't think it has to. Obama has nothing left to show. His hand is played. He will not become the things he would have to be to win in the next month and one half. McCain still needs to fight and he will. But this is looking more and more like a very bad loss for the Democrats.

Hackers block Qaeda’s 9/11 terror on tape

Hackers prevented Al Qaeda from releasing a videotape to mark the seventh anniversary of 9/11. Al Qaeda has traditionally issued a video or audiotape by either Osama bin Laden or Ayman al Zawahiri, the terror network’s two leaders, to mark their massive terrorist attack on the US.

As-Sahab, Al Qaeda’s media unit, had indicated earlier this week that it would post such a videotape on September 11. As-Sahab had banner images on the internet showing a silhouetted head with a question mark and the words, “Wait 11 September”.

The US-based intelligence group IntelCenter had speculated the video would be a message from Osama or Zawahiri with a recording of the last will and testament of Mohammed Atta, one of the leaders of the 9/11 attackers.

Sources close to US intelligence said, “Hackers knocked out Al Qaeda’s online means of communication, thus preventing them from posting anything to commemorate the anniversary.”

Meet the Dems' Richard Nixon, only without all that tedious experience!

I think it is a variation of your number 4, a combination of feigned ignorance and admission to the facts as a denial that they are significant to guilt.

"Yes, dear, you did see me come out of that hotel with a scantily dressed woman. We were talking the whole time about feminism and equal rights and how terrible adultry is and how much I love my wife and children."

They have admitted the treasonous facts while not admitting that they are indicitive of treason or that they even have reason to think that they are. But of course, they do.

106 de La Valette  Tue, Sep 16, 2008 10:53:47am

Some stuff I posted earlier on this at Ace (Jean as in Jean de La Valette, it would be great if we could crosspost and keep same NICs on several blogs.)

1. You can bet the Iraqis ran tape during that meeting, and I would wager that somebody on the Republican side has heard it. Barry O had better be very careful with his response, even the networks won't be able to resist the One cutting a deal.

2. I wonder if the One had still been ahead in the polls if the Iraqis would have held this as a trump card for use during the Obama administration.

3. Brings up another point, I wonder what tape the Syrians (and probably the Mossad by now) have on other Democrats.

4. Unfortunately, the Logan Act falls into the category of laws, like the War Powers Act, that only matter in the Court of Public Opinion. I don't think either will ever be tested in a courtroom.

5. This also puts Bob Woodward's claim of eavesdropping on senior Iraqis in a new light.

Folks, I'm not mentioning this because I'm a killjoy, despite what my wife says. (/) I mention this because, as William Katz notes,

The first tracker of the day is out. Rasmussen reports McCain with a one-point lead. He was up two yesterday, three the day before. We're seeing the same pattern here as with the Gallup tracker - McCain is beginning to lose support. It's a small loss so far, and may merely reflect the end of his convention bounce. But trouble in the economy and the relentless press assault against Sarah Palin may also have their impact.

There's still plenty of time in which McCain can lose. 49 days is an eternity in presidential races. Don't get cocky!

McCain has the luxury of just doing what he is supposed to be doing, calmly, with confidence and fortitude, while the entire 2500 employee Obama Corporation, along with the entire msm are running around like they are chickens with their heads cut off.

All the Thorazine in the world won't slow them down.

It's actually quite funny.

I guess that's what happens when the entire NObama is based on hype and gloom and doom of the American economy (not the Democrats understand capitalism) but it's an excellent talking point.

She didn't get beat, her own party insured that Obama would win.

Pelosi. Don't know if Blinky couldn't stand losing alpha-female status in the abstract, or it's something personal between her and the Hildebeast, but I think she had a lot to do with the sub-busification (what's the under-the-bus version of "defenestrate"?).

At the time, Palin's running mate for the Republican ticket, Arizona Sen. John McCain, derided both projects as wasteful. He called Young's highway bill a "monstrosity" that was "terrifying in its fiscal consequences."

"I want no part of this," McCain said in a July 2005 statement. "This legislation is not — I emphasize not — my way of legislating."

Typical "truther" exchange:

Letter in my paper this morning:

A reader wrote that he was very disappointed in Sen. John McCain's convention acceptance speech because he did not hear McCain "propose legislation that would make (the reader's) life better" ("Waiting for specifics," Sept. 11).

There are, however, a few other options to try that might make your life better. You could: (1) volunteer to help kids learn to read; be a hard-working employee or student; refrain from using substances that might interfere with your effectiveness as an employee or parent; get enough exercise and sleep; support a church or charity that can offer assistance to those less fortunate; occasionally ask friends if there is anything you can do for them; and teach your kids by example that they have the right to pursue happiness, not to have it handed to them.

On the other hand, you could (2) spend hundreds of hours planning to vandalize and terrorize a city that is simply hosting a convention of people exercising their constitutional rights; or (3) sit and wait for politicians to pass legislation that will make your life better.

TAXPROF: Rangel refuses to step down as Ways & Means Committee chair. I can't believe they won't do something like that, since it's a gimme, and I'm surprised that the Dems couldn't get him out of the picture. Then again, I said the same thing about the Republicans and Ted Stevens . . . .

Yes, the above post about the Rasmussen slipping from +3 to +2 to +1 drives home the point, we need to keep the pressure on about the Democratic elites and tie them to the Financial implosion.

re: #326 lifeofthemind

Rangel's mess is far more involved than that - it goes to the heart of Pelosi's "most ethical Congress ever!" nonsense. Rangel violated one of the new ethics mandates to report lobbyist junkets. That's on top of the growing tax mess and blaming everyone but the janitor (he blamed his wife and Dominicans - for cultural and language barriers despite representing a district that is largely Dominican) for why his tax filings are a complete disaster.

There's plenty of material to use in an ad, but it doesn't hit at Obama directly. This mess hits squarely at Pelosi and House Democrats who have turned a blind eye to the ethics mess and tax dodging ways of the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee that writes the tax code.

Rangel's nearly out of excuses, but he's clearly sticking around and there's no way that Pelosi will force him out. Not even finding $90,000 in cold cash stashed in his freezer would do that (Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA)). So, a little ethical and tax dodging matter isn't going to do it either.

Most people seem to pick up lawn signs from the bottom of the sign. Vandals will be unpleasantly surprised, and can hardly complain after comitting tresspassing with the intent to commit vadalism.

His burn rate is absolutely unbelievable!

He had 66 million at the end of July.
He had 77 million at the end of August.

That means he spent 55 million in August. (66 at end of july plus 66 in august minus 77 million left over)

That is a burn rate of over 80%

The Palin phenomenon is partly built on a growing anger at Congress and Beltway Politics. I don't think the Dems realize this, but voters are finally waking up to the fact that Congress no longer is on their side. The GOP thumping in 2006 was just a quiet wake up call. Pelosi and Reid sit atop an electoral landmine that is set to explode. Too bad the Gang of 20 and McCain do not realize this.

re: #350 lawhawk

* * * *
Rangel claims someone sold a house he owned but he didn't know about the sale!

How many houses does Rangel own? Ha ha ha.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin's husband Todd built their Wasilla house by hand with the help of a few friends.

The POTUS is the Commander in Chief. U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 2.

Congress is ... well ... Congress. They can declare war (Article I Section 8) and they hold the purse strings, but nothing more, other than "advice and consent" (Article II, Section 2). Note that "Congress" - as a whole - not "one self-important a$$hole trying to throw a war to win an election" has the powers enumerated in Article 8.

Who does Obama think he is?

Don't advocate razor blade traps on yard signs, please.

If nothing else stops you, think of the risk of slicing up children and animals.

re: #385 Honorary Yooper

Obama is burning through over $1.77 million a day! At that rate, by election day, from today, he will have spent $85.16 million more. My guess is that he'll spend far, far more than that over the next 48 days.

It doesn't matter how much he spends, what matters is how much he spends relative to what he takes in.

Supposedly with McCain surging (ha!) ahead in the polls, donations to Obama have increased dramatically. So he's probably fine, financially.

Next issue, of course, is how *effective* his spending it. That remains to be seen, but I suspect (like all the big tax and spenders) he's got a lot of waste. Its very easy to spend tons of cash when its being handed to you by the millions on a silver platter.

You think fake Presidential seals come cheap?

I don't condone razor blades on political yard signs, but how about a dog shit minefield surrounding the sign? Dog shit Punji stick pits? The possibilities are endless with a good supply of dog shit.

Um. . .
Its your yard.

Who does Obama think he is?

He really does think he is above quaint things, such as laws, moral, character...

Who he really is? A TRAITOR.

re: #399 Lizard by the Bay

I could just as easily claim I knew nothing about the razor blades. As the sign is outside, it is not 100% in my control at all times. I could even claim that the trespassing "victim" made the whole thing up. Then it's the word of a homeowner against an admitted criminal. I like my odds.

Sure, you could claim that. But it won't work.

Your property, your responsibility, and no jury is going to believe that the razor-blades stuck in the political sign on your lawn were put there by a third party. Even if they were, that still wouldn't necessarily shield you. (If you didn't know there were there, you *should* have known, etc.)

There is some real chance that the injury could be seen by a third party (ie a neighbor), or that the injured party will leave evidence (ie blood) at the scene, so denying the whole thing might not stick. (There is also a chance that an angry injured vandal might come back for some more serious vandalism later).

Even if the person injured can't prove you put them there beyond a reasonable doubt, they wouldn't have to, to take you to the cleaners in a civil suit.

Think about it. . .$1,000,000 lawsuit vs $10 lawn sign. You may like those odds, but I don't.

Gee, what happened to the story of Nancy Pelosi pressuring FARC to not release its hostages, including Americans, until Barack became President, according to the documents found on terrorist hard drives?

Eh?

In the tank!

So, Obama is trying to rig the war so that Democrats (and other enemies) can say that America lost it and that it's necessary for Obama to step in and retrieve the supposedly defeated American troops - and the MSM wants to let him get away with this.

This has got to be an issue in this campaign.

It's treason, for one thing. Obama is trying to help our enemies during a time of war. This is illegal.

The fact that Obama told a FOREIGN GOVERNMENT how to do ANYTHING is front-page, commercial worthy!

Logan Act anyone?

re: #445 wiffersnapper

Logan Act anyone?

Nice in theory, but in practice, irrelevant. I believe nobody has ever been prosecuted under the Logan act.

But even assuming the claims against Obama could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt (they likely could be, actually, if his conversation with the Iraqi foreign minister were taped or transcribed), who is going to try prosecute?

A future Obama administration certainly wouldn't.

A Bush administration couldn't do it now, because it would be perceived as trying to sabotage Obama's election chances, and the backlash would probably cause Obama to win.

If Obama loses the election, the Bush or subsequent McCain administration couldn't prosecute AFTER the election because it would be seen as partisan piling on a political opponent.

And lastly, if Obama wins the election, the Bush administration couldn't squander any political capital (or credibility) it has left by trying to prosecute the President-elect from a rival party.

In short, Obama is a standing US Senator, and he's protected here from prosecution out of political considerations. Still, his apparent attempt to undermine US foreign policy to suit his own political agenda/aspirations is scandalous and deserves wide attention, IMO.

While I am encouraged by the senator's evolution, I must also appeal to him to issue a "cease and desist" plea to the battalions of his sympathizers - who have been threatening me with death and worse in the days since my article appeared.
