I hadn't heard the new definition of "liar" until the Obama campaign started throwing it around.

With that new definition, I want my kids to grow up to be "liars".

You know, I've got a feeling that CNN will take this seriously and present it as evidence that Palin is not fit to be Veep.

This is a great illustration of the fundamental differences between Republicans/Conservatives and your average Liberal/Democrat. We can laugh at ourselves, we can make fun of our leaders and everybody understands that it is all in good fun. It keeps people a little humble. If a parody like this were filmed about Uhhhbama the Liberals would be screaming Racist! Mean Spirited! Dirty Tricks!

Welcome back. You took quite a hit from Ike before he came up our way and swamped NW Indiana. Between him and the remnants of Lowell, parts of our area had over 10 inches of rain and record flooding along the Illinois, DuPage, Des Plaines, Chicago, and Little Calumet Rivers. In fact, we still have a major east-west artery closed (I-80/94), one of the busiest truck routes in the country.

74 anotherindyfilmguy  Wed, Sep 17, 2008 9:58:02am

OT:
Rush is rambling about how the Government has "raped" the mortgage industry...
He doesn't seem to want to hear that all those "bad loans" have the caveat of being federally insurable and repaid in full to the lenders (including all costs for the foreclosure through resale) and that the greed of the lenders to keep foreclosing and recirculating their cash into higher interest laden early parts of loans is the problem.
The other problem is that by taking larger and larger loans to buy houses (instead of paying cash for a small starter home and moving up on favorable terms etc) the housing industry has artificially inflated the price of housing across the board... this is nothing more than a market adjustment that is long overdue.
I like Rushbo overall but there's basically two topics I disagree with Rushbo on and this is one that makes me say FTSB while he displays an tin ear to the real problem so he can play the part of partisan hack...

Had to share from the koskids:

We are teaching our children as well... (0+ / 0-)
A high point came for me last night when my teen son was watching Colbert. He is a rather shy, introverted kid who prefers role playing games and computers to hanging out with buddies. Anyway, I heard him clapping last night when Colbert made a joke about Sarah Palin and Russia. When the show was over, he told me it was one of the best ones he had seen.

My 8 and 10 year old are also becoming rather opinionated. I heard my 10 year old ask a boy at a recent social event who he was voting for. When he said Obama, they both cheered. :)

He will be living in moms basement in no time LOL

Hey all Y'all - I know Hockey Moms for Truth is an important topic, but felt that I had to repost this from the prior thread dealing with Pakistan and our perhaps going to war with a nuclear powered third world nation:
We HAVE to recognize a couple of facts, some of them very unpleasant.
First of all, Pakistan IS a democracy (unless it comes too close to Sharia law in secular matters, in which case it has always become a military dictatorship).
Secondly, Pakistan does have nukes and the missiles by which to deliver them; discussions with the Paki's that don't at least seem to indicate our desire for a good relationship with Pakistan will only cause Pakistan to relocate some of those nukes and add a lot of their military to guard them - the Paki's aren't stupid and know that those Nukes are the only things that are keeping it a separate, definable, country.
Thirdly, Pakistan has NEVER had control of the Frontier Provinces - they are now and have always been controlled by a fairly large assortment of "Warlords" [the term, which may conjure up some Hollywood images of uneducated, sword wielding maniacs is very far from the truth].
Fourth - Pakistan's government HAS to make a big deal out of protecting Pakistan's territorial sovereignty or the overwhelming majority of it's citizens will throw out the government, lock stock and barrel (think how the US would feel if, say, Canada, used drones or attack helicopters to attack "rebels" within Canada from trying to seize control of the Canadian government and the US allowed those rebels to hide in, R&R in, and resupply and recruit in, say Montana and those drone or attack helicopters accidentally killed oh, a few hundred American citizens) and
Fifth - while Pakistan's government makes a lot of noise about defending Pakistani territory from American/Afghanistan military incursions, it also recognizes that those incursions are Pakistan's' best hope to gain governmental control over those "Frontier Provinces".
The US has no real choice, here, but to strike the deal that I think that they will make, and that would be something akin to "hot pursuit" - we catch or see the bad guys in Afghanistan and start shooting and chasing them IN Afghanistan and just continue going after them after they cross the borders into Pakistan.
Hell, we did that in Cambodia and Laos during Vietnam and both countries were officially neutral during the entire Vietnam War. Pakistan IS still our ally; we ought to be VERY CAREFUL about blowing that relationship, when we really don't need to do so.
And, bye the bye, the State Department really fucked up when they told Bush NOT to support Mushareef - he wasn't exactly what we wanted, but he did, after much prodding by us, destroy the Red Mosque in the capital of Pakistan and was sending troops - albeit not Pakistan's best troops - to quell the warlords who were supporting Al-Q and the Taliban.

Sarah Palin was very unresponsible as a hockey mom. she would forget the juices and make other mothers drive.
she never once offered to shoot a moose either until she ran for governor.
but on a serious note, please ladies, dont vote for her just because she is a woman. theis is all just a gimic.this isnt like hillary running.hillary was president for 8 years before back in the 90's, she has lots of experience.

No, I really had never heard of it until then. Never saw it in any of the grocers I frequent. I'm far more familiar with romaine for lettuce.

Maybe we just don't have it in our normal grocery store in the Midwest. I would suspect BHO went to some sort of high-end grocer like a Whole Foods rather than just Jewel or Dominick's. Of course, even Dominick's would be below his royal highness's tastes.

Hockey Mom only makes sense if you know about the Soccer Mom demographic.

It is really a demographic description used to group middle-class suburban women who spend a significant amount of their time transporting school-age children to activities.

Really has nothing to do with Soccer or Hockey.... Could easily be jazz tap lessons...

They vote, and influence their household vote.

Just for reference, Icing is when a player shoots the puck across at least two red lines, the opposing team's goal line being the last, and offside is when a player on the attacking team enters the attacking zone before the puck itself enters the zone.

The video was great....

And who made this possible? The Dems.

CNN Hack: Only reason the polls are so close is racism

From CNN's Jack Cafferty

Will race be the factor that keeps Obama from the White House?
Race is arguably the biggest issue in this election, and it's one that nobody's talking about.

The differences between Barack Obama and John McCain couldn't be more well-defined. Obama wants to change Washington. McCain is a part of Washington and a part of the Bush legacy. Yet the polls remain close. Doesn't make sense…unless it's race.

Time magazine's Michael Grunwald says race is the elephant in the room. He says Barack Obama needs to tread lightly as he fights back against the McCain-Palin campaign attacks.

Heh. Where I live, Whole Foods is considered low-end! And I've never heard of Jewel or Dominick's either!

It's a bi-partisan issue. As much I don't like most Dem stuff this is an issue that crosses party lines. The lending industry lobbyists essentially have written/rewritten to suit the laws regarding fair housing etc and foreclosures and how to get paid off by the federal government if they foreclose on a property. The biggest problem is that there is no disincentive to foreclose. By making foreclosure profitable by allowing mortgage lenders to self certify loans as federally insurable the lenders have no reason to put a tighter screening on any particular loan and no reason not to foreclose and recycle their equity into new loans and maintain a higher rate of return.

If someone sends me parts that are all packed incorrectly, I send them all back and tell the packers to re-do it right. I don't pass a certain percentage of them, just so I can say the failure rate is no higher than, say, 5%.

In any Navy Seal candidate class, there is no guarantee that any of the candidates will become a Navy Seal. In fact, there have been candidate classes which failed 100%. Not because they all sucked, but that none of them met the qualifications.

The same with academic standards. If Oxford allow their standards to be lowered by the screeds of England's equivalent of Jesse Jackson, they no longer deserve their high reputation. That they would even consider doing so, does not speak highly of their faculty and administration.

You seem to have missed the point that lenders were required by federal law to make risky loans. This was supposedly to prevent "discriminatory" lending and "red-lining".

They had to invent new loans that allowed minority borrowers who were poor credit risks to qualify to buy a home. Non-minority borrowers started taking advantage of them to buy more house than they could really afford, and voila--instant boom.

May I suggest less hating and more reading?

The Galllup poll and the Rasmussen poll are for the same period and are both about 3000 sample size. However, the Gallup poll that shows BHO up by to is of 'registered' voters. The Rasmussen poll that shows McCain up is of 'likely' voters.

"likely voter" polls are the only ones worth considering.

"Academic standards" are not affected by the students' demographic.

But if Oxford has sunk to believing they are, then I guess I can only say:

Fare thee well, Oxbridge, 'twas nice knowin' ya.

Ahem.
The background to this is that the neostalinist governemnts under Tony Blair and Gordon brown want Oxford and Cambridge to preferentially take students from 'lower economic classes' by disregarding their academic achievements in their final year exams: if they are lower that the top marks, that must be discounted to get the 'right' social mix.
In otehr words, the government wants to dumb down our top universities and their research.

Social class and academic ability are not related - but to take a person on with lower grades just because they're from a lower social background, and refusing the student with the higher grades a place because he is 'middle class' - yeah, thats the way to get outstanding academics!

Its long past time that the universities stood up to this blatant social engineering by the neostalinists.

What makes you think this attack was Anti-Semitic? I only found this in the article.

The boys, aged between 17 and 18, had just finished the minha prayer when they were attacked by the group, the head of Bnei Akiva's French desk, Binyamin Tuati, told The Jerusalem Post.

According to a statement released by World Bnei Akiva spokesman Tzvika Klein, the youths were initially approached by a group of three Muslim/African immigrants who began to throw chestnuts in their direction. When one of the counselors asked them why they were being attacked, the assailants began shouting anti-Semitic remarks.

At the time it was reported that ten to 12 attackers wearing brass knuckles joined the original three and beat the three Jews until police arrived.

After John McCain made the statement yesterday about how the fundamentals of the economy were strong , Obama tacked opposite and tried to whip the crowd into a frenzy with panic about the financial turmoil, ridiculing McCain and blaming Republicans for the whole mess. That dangerous territory there, self-fulfilling prophecies and all and with the economy, perception is reality.

Responsible leaders don't do that sort of thing for cheap political gain. Particularly when they helped make the mess in the first place.

re: #148 anotherindyfilmguy

With all due respect, do you have a bill number for that? When did it pass? Who sponsored it? Who opposed it? Who signed it in to law?

re: #184 ceemack

You seem to have missed the point that lenders were required by federal law to make risky loans. This was supposedly to prevent "discriminatory" lending and "red-lining".

They had to invent new loans that allowed minority borrowers who were poor credit risks to qualify to buy a home. Non-minority borrowers started taking advantage of them to buy more house than they could really afford, and voila--instant boom.

May I suggest less hating and more reading?

You are absolutely correct. Lenders were prohibited by LAW from making anything resembling normal discriminatory decisions. I use the word "discrimination" in its original, intended meaning, not weighted by its modern usage negative bias.

I would say that it is a rebuttable presumption, with the burden of those claiming it was not to prove that it is not, when it is a case of a mob of Arabs with brass knuckles attacking some yeshiva boys.

Ok, truth is that since the article stated that the group of "North African Origin" males, used brass knuckes, and attacked Jews after they left the branch of their Yeshiva after doing prayers (which means that they also probably wear at a minimum a kippah, or tzitzit, & most likely entire Hassidic carb) while SCREAMING ANTI-SEMITIC things to them, I figured that my sarcasm in that post would be obvious.

Of COURSE this was an Anti-Semitic act!

Top Attack Dog In Palin Troopergate Smear Campaign Is Phony Soldier

Democratic state Senator Hollis French claims on his resume he was a private in the USMC... only he wasn't! Another fat head Democrat liar.

Hollis "Gunny" French (D)-- is guilty of misrepresenting that he served in the Marine Corps - when in fact his ONLY exposure to the Marine Corp was attending a Marine ROTC PLC - from which he was DISMISSED and granted a "Discharge" as a Private.
--He NEVER attended, much less graduate from either of the USMC Boot Camps.
--He FAILED to pass the ROTC Platoon Leader Course - thus failing to make the grade to become a Marine Officer.
--Hardly service as a Marine, and the folks in Alaska caught up with French's claims....
--Folks in Alaska to this day, still jokingly refer to the jackass poseur as "Gunny French" and he hates the reminder of his lie -Free Republic.

A REPUBLICAN CAMELOT

The timing couldn’t be more apropos. Just last week, the Potomac home of Eunice and Sargent Shriver, the last of the Kennedy family estates in the Washington D.C. area, went on sale. Yet, as the country says goodbye to a last vestige of a Democratic Camelot which once inspired and gave hope to millions of Americans, the country ironically finds itself witnessing the birth of a Republican version of Camelot, one that is simultaneously sending shockwaves of hope, identification and derision through the body politic. Sarah Palin, a one-time PTA mom, and her family are so unlike anything else in Washington, D.C., they have the Democrats quaking in their boots. With her selection by John McCain, the white knight who is the closest D.C. embodiment to Arthurian values like justice, bravery and truth, Sarah, her husband Todd and their children are about to assume the roles once held by John and Jacqueline Kennedy’s family -- albeit with an everyman twist -- and help the white knight capture an election the Democrats considered theirs.

Perhaps the ultimate irony is that the ideology spawned by the counter-culture of the sixties, which vociferously fought the Establishment and which the Democrats had hoped to bring to its fruition with an Obama presidency, has been undone by its own sense of entitlement and elitism as embodied in the candidacies of Al Gore, John Kerry and, now, Barack Obama. Where their ire was once directed at the powerful, it is now directed at a candidate who symbolizes one of their most cherished ideals, a woman making it on her own while juggling family and career. And the very people they consider bitter, white trash clingers to guns and religion -- who they unwittingly smear every time they smear their candidate -- will find their representative moving to Washington, D.C. instead. Sarah Palin’s era is only just beginning.

Long may she reign.

Good explanation, Buck, but here is the definitive guide for those non-hockey-players among us:

And those people still had to qualify for those *risky* loans... the problem is fraud. Fraud through lenders who have no desire to see those *risky* loans through to fruition and fraud from people who have done liar loans to bilk cash out of properties that were way overpriced and not closely screened because the mortgage company lacked risk in that when they foreclosed they got paid off by uncle sam. The problem is that the treasury was opened wide to the mortgage companies. The comptrollers office started nailing lenders for predatory practices and that is actually the start of the recent meltdown.
