Tech Note: Spinoff Links Redesigned

Science | Sat, Sep 20, 2008 at 5:54:10 pm PDT

The spinoff links redesign is complete, with styles to match the rest of the site. Gone are the clunky HTML tables, replaced by nice, clean, relatively semantic markup.

Stinky Beaumont says they look like the kind of spinoff links his mom would have baked. But he had a weird mom.

As always, I make obeisance to the coolest Javascript library in the room, jQuery.

No - there's probably a little more vertical space in the design now, because the ratings button is now a bit taller with its enclosing rounded rectangle.

13 politicalinsomniac  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:01:03pm

RCP Average - Obama +2.3%; anything to be concerned about? I know the Electoral College is more important but it was nice for a while there to see McCain up in the nationwide polls...

14 experiencedtraveller  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:01:13pm

Turn it back to the way it was in the 7th century.

Or else...

Of course, the jhadis hate valentines.

And, well ...beauty.

17 Sharmuta  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:02:54pm

re: #13 politicalinsomniac

I'm not concerned. It's is about the electoral college, and not the national average. Also- it's still within the margin of error.

Obama shows every sign that he is about to go negative big time. Panic. And McCain seems prepared.

On that note:

Of late, the flash supernova of U.S. politics is seen "competing" with a second-on-the-ticket female governor of a remote state. There's more than a gap between the "audacity of hope" and "lipstick on a pig." The mouth that spoke the first phrase should not be capable of the second.

The Dems had their post-convention blip and then the Republicans had theirs. It's normal to fall back a bit from there. It's gonna be a horse race right to the finish.

Logged out, logged back in and every time I hit new comments, it reloads the entire page instead of just giving me the next few posted comments. What's up?

GENEVA - The world's largest atom smasher — which was launched with great fanfare earlier this month — has been damaged worse than previously thought and will be out of commission for at least two months, its operators said Saturday.

Experts have gone into 17-mile (27-kilometer) circular tunnel housing the Large Hadron Collider under the Swiss-French border to examine the damage that halted operations about 36 hours after its Sept. 10 startup, said James Gillies, spokesman for CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

"It's too early to say precisely what happened, but it seems to be a faulty electrical connection between two magnets that stopped superconducting, melted and led to a mechanical failure and let the helium out," Gillies told The Associated Press.

I think Florida's in the bag for McCain. Looks like he has a decent shot at three out of four in PA, VA, IN, and OH.

If he can get all 4, Obama's loses. I haven't seen any projected Obama win scenarios that don't include Pennsylvania.

Not so sure about that. If the big zero gets Pennsylvania AND Ohio, McCain will have a steep hill to climb.

Spoetzl [sic] Brewery of Shiner, Texas has got me in a warm happy place.
Good, because I have to read the spoken parts of a full hierarchical service tomorrow (some 3 hours).

Thou waterest the mountains from Thine upper rooms; with the fruit of Thy works is the earth sated, making grass to grow for the cattle, and green herb for the service of men, that Thou mayest bring forth bread out of the earth, and wine that gladdeneth the heart of man, to make his face cheerful with oil; and bread that strengtheneth man's heart. -Psalm 103 (102 or 104 Masoretic) LXX

It really comes down to state polling, not national. In the states we need to win, we're looking good. In swing states- it's even, and right now, I'll take it.

59 experiencedtraveller  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:23:24pm
I learned this, at least, by my experiment, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with a license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

Anybody know if Killgore Trout travelled safely?

He has to keep VA, IN and OH for sure, in order to offset Iowa. He sure needs to pick up PA to put it over the top.

FL is looking good, but I'd like to see good movement in NM and CO.
