Yaaar, these guys do valuable work, if you have the available cash, please lend your support!

Good cause to throw a hundred bucks.

4 Cartman  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:16:09pm

I'd like to help, but I've been tapped dry in trying to contribute to the defeat of Obama.

5 LoFlyer  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:16:26pm

Dawgs just blew past Arizona, 14-0, I hate to say this but Pac-10 cannot compete with the SEC.

6 Sharmuta  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:16:42pm

I didn't know they were in need. But I'm sure now that the Lizards' help will be invaluable because the Lizards are some of the most wonderful, generous groups around.

7 Noam Sayin'  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:16:50pm

Charles, I know I've been telling you that I'm going to put a couple bucks in your account, but I've decided to repurpose those dollars. I'll catch you next time.

9 itellu3times  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:17:27pm

Any way to combine or track all LGF contributions?

10 Cartman  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:17:39pm

I'm in for what I can afford already this evening. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. Memri provides a valuable service. The economy sucks and I know its a tough slog for a lot of folks, but give them what you can. We need to make informed decisions and without folks like Memri in the loop, its just plain hard.

18 stevieray  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:22:04pm

Saw this a few days ago... threw them fifty.

19 Pvt Bin Jammin  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:22:13pm

I absolutely can't do this right now but saved this article to my favorites so I'll remember a little later. I would hate to see them go.

20 Summer  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:23:16pm

Yaaaar, Well maybe you ought to. It's Saturday night and I have have had a busy week.
/Sanity and stress relief comes in many forms. Getting drunk on Saturday night in the privacy of my house is still perfectly legal!

22 Desert Dog  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:23:59pm

Sunshine is always the best disinfectant when it comes to people who say one thing in English and the opposite in their native tongues. Sites like MEMRI are vital in seeing what is actually said in Islamic countries, not the two-faced fluff they offer us when we meet them. We need more and more of sites like MEMRI. We need these people to know that we are watching them and hear every word they say.

23 Irene NYC  Sat, Sep 20, 2008 6:24:19pm

Okay, I'm in too.

Lizards, they accept PayPal. Just pretend you bought something really terrific on eBay. And this is just SO much more worth it.

re: #5 LoFlyer

Dawgs just blew past Arizona, 14-0, I hate to say this but Pac-10 cannot compete with the SEC.

ASU lost to UNLV last week! They are not the top of the PAC-10. Georgia would have it's hands full with USC. That being said, the SEC is a much stronger division than the PAC-10 this year fer sure.

Here's an oldie but good from MEMRI, that's just as relevant today.

MEMRI has translations from an online Al Qaeda “magazine” called The Voice of Jihad, in which operatives debate the pros and cons of killing Muslims versus killing infidels. To no one’s surprise, they come out strongly in favor of killing infidels.

But as MEMRI points out, the interesting part of this debate is that the fanatics do not object to the killing of “brother Muslims” on religious grounds; that part of the debate is settled already. They have the right.

Good on ya. Money well spent. Maybe I'll hit this one in a few days, but I really knda went overboard on my contributions to McCain/RNC. I don't regret it at all, though. IMO, this is an extremely critical juncture in history with regards to our country's viability. John McCain must defeat Barack Hussein Obama.

I went to give some money but was unable to find their online privacy policy. Then I came here to check if anyone else could find it and found that I also couldn't find yours, Charles.

I have complete confidence in your use of private information but it's still good netiquitte to post your specific policy; if nothing else, the more good sites that do it the more pressure there is on less-good sites to adopt a policy, and competition will encourage them to become more private with their users' information.

So I'd encourage you to post your policy as part of a drive to a better internet. (Or if I'm simply not finding it, making it more accessible to boneheads like me ;) )

Thanks.

As for Memri, I'm pretty sure I have a stack of those old-fashioned "check" things somewhere; I'll send one of those pending their posting of a privacy policy.

re: #64 PeaceBeUponHim

Check out MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) at guidestar.org
Their tax returns, which are public record show, at a casual glance,
an efficiently run nonprofit. Look for low fund raising to program services
ratio. They have fewer than five employees paid over 50k / year, and
you can see their salaries listed.

Oh, and in the most recent return , I think I saw $0.00 of government
grants for MEMRI. Contrast this with CAIR (national, in DC), which got $300,000.
CAIR's operation is not quite so lean as MEMRI, yet still has reasonable
expenditure ratios. So from an accountancy perspective, I have no
beef with CAIR...

MEMI needs a lobbyist to get some dough from uncle sam...we have 1.5 trillion to bail out bad mortgages but 0 to spend on finding out what the savages have to say about and what their plans are? We're living in bizarro world.

For me it's an easy choice.

105 Ben F  Sun, Sep 21, 2008 4:06:03pm

Founded in February 1998 to inform the debate over U.S. policy in the Middle East, MEMRI is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization.

Were MEMRI to take government money it would compromise its claim of independence and, therefore, its credibility.

I'm in.

Well that's odd. Perhaps every leftard that ever apologised for the Arab street was wrong when they said that MEMRI was funded by MOSSAD

re: #106 uptight

One of MEMRI's co-founders, Yigal Carmon, served in the military intelligence branch of the IDF for some twenty years. MOSSAD is a separate agency that engages in various covert activities including but not limited to intelligence gathering. Cf. the CIA, which is not part of DoD. I suppose that MOSSAD (or the CIA) could be providing covert support to MEMRI, but it clearly would be contrary to MEMRI's interest to be forced to rely on such funding.

Of course it is always easier to level an ad hominem accusation, meritorious or otherwise, than it is to deal with unwelcome facts. This applies equally to rightards and leftards.
