C'mon Monday! Let's find a way to give some traction to Jawa today!

Let's let Barry back up what he said about "firing" anyone involved with such a smear. Let's get that "fired" person on the air to tell about where their orders came from.

An open thread? And me with nothing to discuss

Except for this:

Visit the O'Grady/Brown memorial website.

These two police officers were murdered by close friends of Bill Ayers after an armoured truck robbery in Nyack, N.Y. back in 1981. How close? Not just 'fleeting acquaintences from the Weathermen Days'. More like 'Ayers Raised Their Infant Son To The Red Diaper Babay He Is Today', complete with a Rhodes scholarship and fawning NYT and PBS articles about him.

Funny that you mention "The Common Man". Yesterday saw an article about the melamine poisoning in China. Official said something to the tune of, "We must make sure that the "common people" can eat with confidence."

Can you imagine the reaction from the American Public if someone called them "common people"? That is why they are known as the "American Public".

Just words.

Don't know if this one merits posting but some of my conservative friends got this in their inbox this morning , did anyone else get it? "this was sent to me today"give me your reactions

The following is from a source that has been correct on wild rumors like this on 4 out of 7 occasions.

On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing "health problems", and he will be replaced

to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible. I have already seen a few short blurbs about this. The "health problem" cited in those articles was an aneurysm. Probably many of you have heard the same rumblings.

However, at this point, with this information from the DNC, it looks like this Obama strategy will be a go. Therefore, it seems that the best strategy is to get out in front of thi s Obama maneuver, spell it out in detail, and thereby expose it for the grand manipulation that it is.

So, let's start mixing this one up and cut the Obamites off at the pass. Send this information out to as many people as you can and post it on every website and blog that you can access.

Editor's Note: I've heard this from several sources. Biden is a loose cannon and an amazingly poor choice for VP. Hussein's hatred for Hillary will be trumped by his sponsor's (Soros and gang) rabid desire to hijack America.

51 galloping granny  Mon, Sep 22, 2008 5:01:14am

re: #50 obageegee

"Correct on 4 out of 7" is exactly the same odds that you get flipping a coin. No big deal. Re Biden's aneurisms, he has had two brain aneurisms repaired. Which makes him a pretty good candidate for a third.

I would be very surprised if Hillary was fool enough to pick up Barry's marbles this late in the game. And notice the desertion now of a number of her biggest high profile supporters.

Mornin' Reine...

67 yochanan  Mon, Sep 22, 2008 5:16:27am

From the days of FDR, the vast majority of American Jews have identified with the Democratic Party almost if it were their religion. This included most especially secular Jews like me whose blasé attitude toward their faith and toward religious observance in general made such a replacement all the more important emotionally. This same Jewish majority also identified with the cause of social justice and, as Barack Obama among many others has noted, were some of the most active participants in the civil rights movement of the Fifties and Sixties. That was all how it should have been and was a perfectly logical and praiseworthy epoch in the development of our country.

Hello – those days are over! The events leading up to Monday’s anti-Ahmadinejad demonstration by Jewish organizations at the UN put the final nail in an already long-moldering coffin. Jews should no longer align themselves with the Democratic Party any more than they should align with the Republicans. They should act and think for themselves, devoid of ideological or partisan bias. They should first be Americans, not Democratic Party Americans.

The reasons for this are many, but paramount among them is that being hostage to one political party is tantamount to giving up your freedom and relinquishing your ability to confront reality and act in your own interest, not to mention the interest of others. Many Jewish Americans still do this for reasons that are at best sentimental and nostalgic, and at worst self-destructive. But a tipping point may be approaching. The virtual night of the long knives played out between the Democratic Party and various Jewish organizations surrounding the Iran demonstration, including allegations that party operatives were threatening the loss of tax exempt status over Sarah Palin’s appearance, with more unpleasant revelations undoubtedly to come, is obviously causing people to reconsider this allegiance to the Democratic Party that approaches fealty.

I urge my fellow Jews to keep thinking about this and not to retreat into the cocoon-like safety of an outmoded tradition. Change is difficult. But remember that Hillary Clinton – that paragon of the Democratic Party, a woman who calls herself a “progressive” (oh, desecration of the English language!) – was willing to forego the protest of the man who is arguably the most significant enemy of the Jews since Hitler for partisan and (most likely) personal pique reasons. How morally repellent is that!

And then Joseph Biden told us he was busy–too busy to protest a nuclear-armed madman who fervently believes that his mysterious Twelfth Imam (Mahdi) is destined to unite a chaotic globe under Allah. (And don’t tell me that evangelicals believe similar things. If you think there is an equation between evangelicals and Khomeinist Islamists, you need a cold bath.)

No, those Democrats thought of themselves and their party first, the citizens of this country and the world later. When Republicans behave in a similar reprehensible manner, we should condemn them with all ferocity. But fellow Jews, stop being slaves to the Democratic Party. End this illicit love affair – not just for your own good, but for the good of humanity.

I know part of this is quotes from an article I read yesterday . . . . . which also stated as I recall that "most US Jews today are descendants of Jews escaping the Holocaust who were allowed into the US by FDR."

Which surely made me wonder who wrote the article, since neither FDR nor anyone else allowed any great influx of Jews into the US either prior to or during WWII. We did, in fact, turn at least one boat away.

Good Morning folks.

The odds of a Morgan Stanley - Wachovia merger deal just got a lot longer, because of this:

Goldman, Morgan to become holding companies
Companies get access to Fed lending in exchange for oversight

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- In yet another extraordinary development for Wall Street, the Federal Reserve said late Sunday night that venerable investment banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will become bank holding companies, subjecting themselves to stricter federal oversight.

The main motivation for a broker to merge with a bank was to have direct access to capital during tight times like this. But by becoming a bank holding company, Goldman and Morgan can walk up to the discount window and borrow all they need themselves.

Your QB can't find his secondary receivers yet, the defenses have figured that out, so they are just taking Moss out of the play so the passing game is stymied.

But in a few games he should get the hang of it, so keep hope. At least you guys have professional receivers who can. like catch the ball and stuff.

Not like my Bears would specialize in getting slow footed receivers who can not catch the ball.

Other teams get to draft from the pool that has quick players who can run into the end zone real fast carrying the football.

We have to be able to draft from that pool of players.

One explanation for many Jews hating any party consider right wing is the almost universal labeling of National Socialism as right wing.

In part this took place as it would have been more difficult to to unleash the necessary commitment to destroy Nazism if the system was viewed as similar to the Soviet Union.

At the very least it would have interfered with fullly supporting our ally the Soviets.

It should be noted that until Germany attacked Russia, Stalin was a friend of Hitler and the U.S. communist party opposed any actions against Germany.

Once Russia was attacked the communist turned against the the Nazis.

If the Nazis were foes of the communist or the left, then other who opposed communism must be similar to Hitler and the Nazis.

Republicans are on the right of the political spectrum. Some have been painted as far right.

The left has been very astute in propagating this concept and I believe their success in doing so accounts for the loyalty of Jews to the Democrat party.

It took me about 2 series of watching him play to figure out that he is locking into the primary receiver, and I'm not a profession coordinator. He has got to learn to go through hos progression on pass plays or you can forget it. And without that, you can forget about play action working too.

Hey Hoops - WONDERFUL?! Well it's not your birthday and the Colts lost (again) so what's so wonderful for you today?

Well yesterday at around 4pm right before the game..the house was packed and everyone was having a good time when mrs. hoopster said she had to go somewhere and would be back shortly..I heard a few snickers so i knew something was up..
When she got back she asked me to go in the bedroom for a couple of minutes and when i came back in there was Jordan sitting in my chair sipping a beer. He got a 72 hour leave from the Marines to come home for my birthday.
I'm only here a few hours today and taking off work the rest of the day and going to go goof off with my Boy.
The best birthday present..Ever!

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. There's a real important story in the NY Sun today that merits attention about how al Qaeda's latest message appears to be a signal to carry out further attacks. It also notes that the Marriott bombing in Islamabad may have been a decapitation strike against the Pakistani bombing - that President Zardari was scheduled to attend Iftar at the Marriott later that evening.

That's a situation I had surmised when the attacks occurred, and suggests that the Pakistani government is seriously compromised by the Islamists and al Qaeda/Taliban elements.

More here.

So much for Obama's "new kind of politics."

Remember when Obama said the Mac/Palin campaign "wouldn't know what hit them?" He was gloating. He knew this was coming.

The Bears took the ball away form the Buc's 4 times yesterday and still lost.

Last week they scored on a blocked punt, and still lost.

They have the Eagles coming in this weekend, who will absolutely destroy the Bears.

I'm looking at next years draft already.

What slow footed, stone handed, blind receiver can we draft early next year? Or a short QB with happy feet. Or a running back who hates to carry the ball. Or an offensive lineman with a bad knee. Maybe we can find a punter with a bad back and draft him in the first round.

Palin in undelivered speech for UN protest: Ahmadinejad dreams of Final Solution

By Natasha Mozgovaya, Haaretz Correspondent

Tags: Ahmadinejad, Clinton, Palin

In the speech which Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin was to have delivered at a Monday rally protesting the UN appearance of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, she was to have said that the Iranian president "dreams of being an agent in a 'Final Solution' - the elimination of the Jewish people."

Another standout has Patton’s ghost showing Malone a modern-day plantation full of happy cotton pickers who thank Malone for being such a humane slave owner. Malone staggers at the sight only to learn that this is his plantation and these are his slaves — thanks to anti-war sentiment that prevented the Civil War.

In a line that filmmakers are still debating whether to cut, a smiling Gary Coleman finishes polishing a car and tosses his rag to someone: “Hey, Barack!”

I heard that Biden's crowd was 2000 not 20000. That 60,000 crowd that Palin drew in Florida is just a hair shy of the stadium crowd Obama drew in Oregon with the promise of a free concert by the marxist "band" the Decembrists.

Via Politico:

McCain closes huge gap on key question for women

Since picking Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has obliterated what had been a 34-percentage-point deficit in a poll of likely women voters on the question of which candidate has a “better understanding of women and what is important” to them.

The two are now effectively tied, with McCain's 44 to 42 percentage lead within the margin of error of the most recent poll conducted by pollsters Kellyanne Conway and Celinda Lake for Lifetime Television. In Lifetime's July poll, women preferred Barack Obama on the same question by nearly three-to-one— 52 to 18 percent.

The biggest lie the Western left has promoted since 9-11 is that there is no one war with Islamo-fascism. Al Qaeda knows the war exists. Iranian mullahs & their proxies Hamas & Hezbollah know there is a war. But the Western intelligentsia refuses to acknowledge it. The most they will concede is that there is a good war against bad guys in Afghanistan, (although many will call that a bad war too) and the distraction of a bad war in Iraq. They will insist there is a "Israeli/Palestinian conflict" but will ignore the centrality of that particular front in the war between Islamo-fascism & the West. They refuse to accept the interconnection of all these separate fronts.

Eventually the sting of Al Qaeda’s defeat in Iraq will be forgotten; their boldness will return and they will reconstitute in a place which America will have no specific reason to lean on. And if from that place another 9/11 attack is mounted Robert Fisk may be among the first to say that ‘it was all our fault’. In a sense he will be right even had he the wit to realize he was pointing at a mirror which our public intellectuals have shattered into parts. The myriad reflections in that crazed reflection don’t represent different things. They represent the same confused Western society attempting to see itself through a kaleidoscope of lies.

Hi {loppyd} - I'm doing ok thanks and I'm glad to hear you are too.
In North Carolina Obama has been running at least two different (maybe 3 but I don't really watch 'em much) ads about how McCain is BAD for women, voted against equal pay for women and all that jazz and then shows McCain walking down some stairs with President Bush.
Wonder if that's because McCain has closed that gap among women voters?
And if we have any more significant success in Iraq or Afgahnistan, I wonder if showing McCain and Bush together could blow up in Obama's face at this Friday's debate?

BTW - do you or does anyone know who the "moderator(s)" is or are for this Friday's debate?

Democrat thievery and corruption alone brought down Fannie and Freddie -

John Sununu knew it and tried to stop it - but the democrats would not let him.

”The dirty little secret about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is when the investigators began discovering the books were being cooked, the companies were protected by Democrats, who stalled — for two years — efforts by Sen. John Sununu, R-New Hampshire to reform the lenders.”

Now we get to sit back and watch as the democrats and their media partners try to re-write history.

Enough is Enough

Not since Rosie O'Donnell & Co. manhandled Elizabeth Hasselbeck weekdays on "The View" have liberals been so gleeful to watch a bitter lesbian tear down a confident and beautiful conservative Republican woman. Unresolved high school lust and angst at well-adjusted cheerleaders and popular prom queens should be left for medical professionals, not for midmorning television gabfests.

For many, gay marriage is a key issue.

Yet none of these gilded-ghetto living haters point out that their savior, Mr. Obama, stands against gay marriage, too. Is that change Melissa Etheridge can believe in?

Great speech, it's a shame the Dems would let her give it. This paragraph is especially important:

Earlier this year, Senator Clinton said that "Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is in the forefront of that" effort. Senator Clinton argued that part of our response must include stronger sanctions, including the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. John McCain and I could not agree more.

Obama voted against that designation.

I have mixed feelings about that decision. On the plus side, it's at least doing something. On the minus, it seems to rest on the logic that the IRGC is somehow a separate and unique entity from the regime itself, reminsicent of this "the armed wing of..." foolishness that we Westerners are so prone to.

White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action.

My only response was, "I love you all dearly, but on this topic your hypocrisy is staggering."

Luckily, most of my blood relatives are conservative. My mom is definitely the swing vote and this year the pendulum has swung to the left. She's been very critical of Sarah Palin and the other day I called her a snob. I told her by attacking Sarah Palin she is attacking me and everything I believe in. She looked as though I had just slapped her. Hours later, out of the blue she said "I am not a snob!" It made her think.

FIFTY-THREE years ago, in the early months of Herbert Hoover's Administration, Secretary of State Henry L. Appalled at the invasion of another nation's private communications, Stimson immediately cut off funding to the cryptologists with the admonition ''Gentleman do not read each other's mail.''

Wow! Good for you.

Sadly, my mother is totally in awe of the ONE. No criticism of any kind is permitted in her presence. Unfortunately, she's in poor health so I refrain from any comment whatsoever. It's not worth her getting upset. My father is more moderate, & we attempt civil discussions among ourselves, but even he avoids any political discussions with her.

My wife's political views are a blend of liberal and conservative positions depending on the issues (economics & national defense are conservative, social issues more liberal). A year ago she said if she were American she would vote for Hillary. She could never see the attraction of Obama, so obvious an empty suit was he, she was deeply offended by the mistreatment Sen. Clinton received from Obama & the biased media. When McCain chose Palin and the Dems went ape-shit attacking her, my wife was so offended she said she would now vote for McCain/Palin (if she was American).

I'm sure there are tens of thousands of pissed off Hillary supporters who are planning on voting for McCain/Palin now.

402 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Mon, Sep 22, 2008 8:05:41am

Interesting Times

The last week has seen groundbreaking and world changing events focusing the minds of American voters on their choice; this bodes ill for Obama's campaign.

The Jawa report on possible subverting of election laws to falsely vilify Republicans is a wonderful example of the far left not learning the lessons of past defeats and doubling down on its poor understanding of US voters. When you drink the liberal kool-aid and believe in the need to confront the "right wing media" (you know, MSNBC, the NYT and CBS), you believe that you are justified in violating the rules because the evil Republicans are doing so. Unlike the Kerry response to the swiftboaters, these "fighting democrats" are fighting back hard, attacking before Rove tries to get in the first punch; except Rove is not even there. This delusion is evident in Obama's get in their faces comments. They think they are sprinting to victory but McCain is within striking distance in California! The problem for dems is not the VP, its the top of the ticket.

The Wall Street melt down plays to McCain's strengths, he called for Fanny and Freddie to get more oversight and of course the Dems blocked it. Meanwhile Obama has nothing in his c.v. that speaks to the political experience necessary to face the biggest financial crisis we have faced since the Depression. Do you think America will turn to a one moot-issue upstart (the one issue being Iraq, which most think McCain and Bush solved with the surge that Obama still can't even admit worked) or will we turn to an experienced proven leader? Name me a single thing Obama has ever done that remotely qualifies him to handle the Wall Street mess? I am sure Obama's for some reason missing-from-his-autobiographies visit to Pakistan will be of utmost use in formulating his financial policy. After all, Pakistan is the Switzerland of South Asia, minus the Swiss, the banks and the chocolate but with all the militants and terrorists you can eat.

Democrats, in their endless need to punish success, are seeking to cap CEO salaries. How unamerican! Why not leave salaries uncapped but tied to long term stock performance (as opposed to short term performance which encourages hanky panky and hurts long term company investment) and why not require Wall Street to pay back the bailout with the incentive of liberalized pay once it has? Using human nature to solve big problems is always the best solution.

At the center of the crisis lies the weak dollar and inflationary issues caused by our energy dependence. Let's issue $2 trillion (with a T!) in eBonds. Bonds backed by the energy projects they finance with the ultimate goal of US energy independence by 2020. Nuclear, solar, wind, biomass, cellulostic ethanol, methanol, oil, clean coal, tidal and geothermal, an all out effort using an across the board solution; then spend $100 billion on the basic science to get the needed next generation technology breakthroughs; if we crack superconductivity, we can put 100 nuclear reactors safe under the rocky mountains and deliver terrawatts all over the country.

We can pay for some of it by selling China US trained and overseen health, building and food inspectors. When we do it, everyone knows it is safe.

Obama is young and energetic, gives a great speech but have you seen any creativity and innovation from him?

If John Sidney wipes the floor with the lightweight on the first debate this week, the Party of the Wilderness is set for another long sojourn in the wasteland, courtesy of nominating the most far left unprepared candidate in US history to face the one of the most challenging times in US history.

Obama supporters have often framed their candidate's selling point as turning on convincing the voters to turn to this unproven quantity from Illinois. Joe Louis once quipped there was nothing wrong about America that Hitler would fix, ironically, there is nothing in Barack Obama that can deal with the current climate.

Hi ya rednaxela! I understood Paulson quite well actually.
The reason the MSM didn't ask him about the alternatives was because the MSM doesn't understand a damn thing about this financial mess - not one damn thing.
The alternative to the Fed's action would have been a depression that would have made the "great depression" seem like a minor economic bump in the road. That was Paulson's point and the same point that the MSM gets hysterical about, even though they don't know WHY they are hysterical about it, but because they think this terrible financial situation is going to somehow work to Obama's benefit.
And because the MSM is full of loons.

Could I stop being a Muslim?

Former Muslim radical Shiraz Maher spent his student days campaigning for an Islamic caliphate in which execution for renouncing Islam would be written into the constitution.

Now Shiraz is calling for moderation and greater Muslim integration into British life, a stance which has meant he himself is now labelled an apostate by some Muslim radicals, for which the penalty is death.

He asks whether such an extreme punishment is really justified by the Qur'an and the example of the Prophet Muhammad.
Converts' experiences

Converts from Muslim backgrounds share their stories with Shiraz.

Ziya Meral gew up in Turkey and now lives in the UK. His parents disowned him when he converted from Islam to Christianity.

"They told people I died in an accident rather than having the shame of their son leaving Islam."

'Sophia' was living in East London when she converted to Christianity. She ran away from home, but her mother tracked her down and turned up to disrupt her baptism.

"My brother was really angry. He reacted and phoned me on my mobile and just said: 'I'm coming down to burn that church.'"

Remember, there is no compulsion in Islam... blah, blah, blah...

This is wierod. LGF is the only site I can get on my 'puter right now. Everything else comes up Address Not Found. Can't even access my email. But I can get to any page on LGF, and [if this works] even post a comment.

You've lost your "DNS Server".
You're getting LGF because the address was "cached" as the last available place to look (and it's now the only place your 'puter remembers)
Turn your computer off.
Turn your modem off, wait several seconds, turn modem back on.
Once your modem has rebooted and all the green LED's are happy,
Turn your computer back on.

There are too many reasons to go into on why/how this happens.
Works about 100% of the time for me.

Looking out my balcony this morning I see that the police tape is still up and what looks to be investigators are on the scene.

Thank God more people were not killed - it went right between the bedrooms as the children were asleep.

That reminds me of that horrible accident during the filming of The Twilight Zone movie, which killed actor Vic Morrow and two children.

Interestingly, Vic Morrow had a premonition that he was going to die in a helicopter crash.

Note that a lot of ISPs block pings because they can be used for denial of service attacks, so lack of a response to a ping doesn't mean there is a problem.
And you might get ping to work on Windows but not Linux; ping can use either TCP or UDP, and UDP is more likely to be blocked.
(TCP is "reliable", that is, it automatically retries; UDP isn't. UDP is used for stuff like streaming video, where the glitch would be worse waiting for a retransmission than just skipping the missing material)

I am aware of just why you supplied it. However, you reasoning is based on a fallacy.

Ping is useful on an individual basis to determine what is going on between the computer you are operating and the one you are trying to reach. Pinging from some server you access by way of the internet tells you only that the connection between that server and the computer you want to reach is Ok - or not. It tells you nothing at all about the path from YOUR computer to the server you want to reach.

Good morning LGF friends.

This is what happened down the block from me yesterday:

[Link: www.kenoshanews.com...]

Looking out my balcony this morning I see that the police tape is still up and what looks to be investigators are on the scene.

Thank God more people were not killed - it went right between the bedrooms as the children were asleep.

Holy cow! When I saw the news, I thought of you since you're the only person I know in Wisconsin (well, "know" in the Internet sense). I'm happy to hear you and your neighbors are safe.

Freedom of speech, Democrat style:

Organizers of Iran rally threatened with loss of tax-exempt status if they invited Palin

The bits from the piece make me feel a little better:

“This is insulting. This is embarrassing, especially to Gov. Palin, to me and I think it should be to every single New Yorker,” Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, told CBS 2 HD.

And this:

“I’m absolutely appalled at the behavior of the Democrats,” said Bob Kunst of Defenders.net. “I’m a Democrat and for the first time in my life I’m going to vote Republican. I can’t take it anymore.

It's amazing that the house didn't catch fire:

Authorities suspect the helicopter, a 2006 Robinson R44 owned by a Kenosha-based air service, crashed sideways through the roof, pushed down a grand staircase in the two-story home, then burst out the front door and skidded across the street. The fiery wreckage came to rest in the front yard at 6931 97th Ave. No one in that house was hurt, and the home was spared.

Nightmare - could this really happen?

The US election nightmare scenario

Tell me, please, that he's only trying to scare the pants off everybody!

Well, Pelosi couldn't be president as the House would have to vote to choose one, and she isn't on the ballot. The entire thing is governed by the 12th Amendment:

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate.

The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted.

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March [20th Jan.] next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.

The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

The VP could be Biden or Palin depending on the Senate vote, and he or she would become President.

The only way in which Pelosi could become President is the following from the 20th Amendment:

Section 3. If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.

re: #520 JustMyView

Also, Obama is not the only candidate w/ ties to Fannie/Freddie. I'm honestly surprised that he would raise the issue.

Maybe he raised the issue because he tried to fix the problem in 2005.

"Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation"

After you noted it, I did notice -- Obama did sound like some sorry imitator of MLK...(perhaps that's another thing which attracts people? Obama himself is an empty suit, a blank, soulless, but he can mimic other "greats" -- superficially -- so that he gains an appeal...)

Hi JMV. Two things, in just two years in the Senate Obama has managed to be the #2 recipient of Fannie/Freddie money over the last 10 years.
Very impressive.
As for McCain's campaign manager, what happened to "Guilt through Association?" You know Wright, Rezko, Phlager, Ayers, Farrakhan, etc?

To me, it seems reasonable that Obama would be at the top of almost any such list because he's been running for president for so long. Only McCain has the same necessity to raise large amounts of money. Also, the Fannie/Freddie offices are in a very blue neighborhood. I heard on PBS on Friday that McCain had received substantially more money than Obama from F/F's directors and officers than Obama. Such comments are more a reflection of the organization's activity than contributions from regualr employees. They said that info came from the FEC, but their database isn't easy to navigate, so I haven't taken the time to check it out.

I don't think it's really worthwhile to have a big argument about this. There's ample evidence that both Obama and McCain have gotten lots of money from Wall Street and other financial sector organizations.

Usually. But I'm sure that even a full-grown moose would be dazzled by the wattage some of today's SUVs carry.

And of course, "moose" inevitably references Palin, hunting, etc.

It was liberal democrat Barny Frank who protected fannie Mae. He was affraid that bringing some dicipline would make it more dificult for low income people to afford their own homes.
