A day before leaving Iran to visit his friends at the United Nations, Iranian thug-in-chief Mahmoud Ahmadinejad presided over a display of military hardware that included the slogans “Israel must be eliminated from the universe” and “Down with the USA,” and promised to “break the hands” of invaders.

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned on Sunday that the nation’s military will “break the hands” of invaders if attacked, as the war of words over its nuclear ambitions intensified.

“If anyone allows themselves to invade Iranian territory and its legal interests... our armed forces will break their hands before they pull the trigger,” Ahmadinejad told a military parade.

“Our nation is seeking friendship and peace... but today it is not in a position to show the least flexibility towards its bullying enemies,” he said in the speech marking the 28th anniversary of Iran’s 1980-1988 war with Iraq. ...

During Sunday’s parade, Iran’s armed forces, including the elite Revolutionary Guards, showcased their weaponry. On display were the long-range Shahab-3 missile and Qadr-1, both of which a military commentator said have a range of 2,000 kilometres (1,240 miles). That would put the borders of Israel, 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) away, within their reach.

Banners displayed on trucks bore slogans including “Israel must be eliminated from the universe” and “Down with the USA.”

Meanwhile in New York, the anti-Iran rally from which Sarah Palin was disinvited has drawn a huge crowd; here’s a screen grab from Fox News:

“Our nation is seeking friendship and peace... but today it is not in a position to show the least flexibility towards its bullying enemies,”

So, why do you call for Israel's destruction? Oh, you want "pax Persia", not a real peace with other countries.

It is a disgrace that the UN gives this asshole the honor of speaking to them, when he has called for the destruction of other countries.
It shows how the UN has become probably the most hypocritical organization on the planet, because Ahmadinejad is a disgrace to the spirit in which the UN was founded.

Time to get rid of the UN.
Replace it with the League of Democracies that McCain proposed. But that should have in its charter a requirement that all members recognize the right of all other members to exist, and their participation will be suspended or terminated, if their leaders do not respect this.

Here is my wish - that Iranians revolt while out of town and throw the kleptocratic Mullahs in prison. Then the revolutionaries call in the US to secure the nuclear "research" centers and their by products.

Dinnerjacket is then stuck in NYC without a country to return to and a timer running on his diplomatic status. So he jumps in a taxi and seeks refuge in the only logical place where he will be protected - the Columbia University faculty lounge. That brings about a 90 day standoff involving thousands of Columbia students protecting dinnerjacket as human sheilds surrounded by angry Iranians wanting blood. The standoff ends when newly inaugurated President McCain orders the storming of the Faculty Lounge.

/I can dream too.

If I remember at all properly, that isn't all that far away from what happened to the Shah of Iran in the 70's. He came to the U.S. to get treated for some kind of cancer, and the current group revolted in his absence.
One of the big complaints included the Shah's cabinet members, in addition to his police department. The Shah had (gasp!) Christians and other non-muslims and was attempting to improve the education status of his people.

VIENNA, Austria - The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency warned Monday that he cannot determine whether Iran is hiding some nuclear activities, comments that appeared to reflect a high level of frustration with stonewalling of his investigators.

IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei said Iran's stonewalling of his agency was a "serious concern."

Thirty years ago:

A decline in courage may be the most striking feature which an outside observer notices in the West in our days. The Western world has lost its civil courage, both as a whole and separately, in each country, each government, each political party and of course in the United Nations. Such a decline in courage is particularly noticeable among the ruling groups and the intellectual elite, causing an impression of loss of courage by the entire society.

Of course there are many courageous individuals but they have no determining influence on public life. Political and intellectual bureaucrats show depression, passivity and perplexity in their actions and in their statements and even more so in theoretical reflections to explain how realistic, reasonable as well as intellectually and even morally warranted it is to base state policies on weakness and cowardice. And decline in courage is ironically emphasized by occasional explosions of anger and inflexibility on the part of the same bureaucrats when dealing with weak governments and weak countries, not supported by anyone, or with currents which cannot offer any resistance. But they get tongue-tied and paralyzed when they deal with powerful governments and threatening forces, with aggressors and international terrorists.

Should one point out that from ancient times decline in courage has been considered the beginning of the end?

Steve Schmidt, a McCain campaign senior adviser, declared on a conference call with reporters Monday Politico

“Whatever The New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization,” Schmidt said. “It is a pro-Obama advocacy organization that every day impugns the McCain campaign, attacks Senator McCain, attacks Governor [Sarah Palin].

Everything that is read in The New York Times that attacks this campaign should be evaluated by the American people from that perspective – that it is an organization that has made a decision to deemphasize its journalistic integrity and tradition, to advocate for the defeat of one candidate – in this case, John McCain – and to advocate for the election of the other candidate, Barack Obama.”

True. But they'd still have to recognize all other nations in the League of Democracies (by my suggestion). A virulently anti-Semitic one would not be able to recognize Israel, and wouldn't be able to join. A "politely" anti-Semitic one, like France at times, would still join.

The way I see it. People owed the mortgages money, then the U.S. paid those companies for the mortgages. Well, since all the money the Gov has actually the money of the people, those who originally owed the money...the mortgages should be considered paid off.

126 lawhawk  Mon, Sep 22, 2008 10:46:17am

FYI I received the following email re: Ahmadinejad's visit and scheduled rallies:

New York City, September 22: Over 30 national organizations - including prominent Jewish and Christian leaders and political leaders - will mount a major protest across the street from the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on Thursday, September 25 at 6 p.m., to counter a meeting by Iranian president Ahmadinejad with U.N. officials and "religious" leaders.

Over the weekend, national religious, human rights and public interest groups, opposed to Iran's stated plans for the destruction of Israel and America, proliferating nuclear weapons program, and brutal human rights violations, stepped up their efforts and began a 72 hour marathon of emails and phone calls to urge members to attend the rally.

"We are calling upon the participation of all human rights activists and religious organizations and leaders of all backgrounds, faiths, and political affiliation who find the threats to innocent peoples to be nothing less than an affront to morality and western civilization," said rally organizer Beth Gilinsky of Women United, an international human rights organization.

Many of these organizations are frustrated with the "disinviting" of Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska and all of the other elected officials for a rally that is taking place at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza today. They are participating in the Thursday 925 Rally to oppose Ahmadinejad, and because a wide spectrum of religious and highest level elected leaders of both parties have been invited to speak out in unity.

WHEN: Thursday September 25, 6pm on
WHERE: Across the street from the Grand Hyatt Hotel East 42nd St, near Lexington Ave and Grand Central Station, New York City, NY.
WHO: Over 30 organizations participating, list to be released shortly.
BACKGROUND: Several Western "religious leaders" are about to betray their brethren across all religions, parties, and countries by "honoring" the tyrannical regime of Ahmadinejad and the Iranian mullahs with dinner and "dialogue." Their names are The American Friends Service Committee, Mennonite Central Committee, Quaker UN Office, Religions for Peace, and the World Council of Churches-UN Liaison Office. Other organizations, political leaders and media have also been invited to appease the Islamic leaders who have turned Iran into a terrorist state

For background, see this September 22 article on the Grand Hyatt Hotel meeting with Ahmadinejad from the New York Sun Newspaper: [Link: www.nysun.com...]

Talking with a Mennonite pacifist (spit) on another blog. Begged him to show me how being a pacifist is a Christian trait. It might sound nice, but has no bearing in this broken world we live in. We were not called to be doormats, were we?

If we took the immoral road and allowed the world to become dominated by one genocidal dictator after another, there could be no mental, emotional, OR spiritual evolution of any kind. No social or cultural progress, checked by karma, can come to pass (which simply means that individuals and nations are FREE to learn from their mistakes).

Self-determination is the only path by which we may reach humanity's God-given evolutionary potential. Under tyrants, that path is permanently blocked.

What I don't understand is why do we continue to give him a visa. UN charter be damned.

Which is why in this day and age, the UN should be removed from the USA and moved to a neutral country such as Switzerland. It would eliminate such nonsense as this on our soil.

On a more idealistic plain, it would make more sense for the USA to withdraw from the UN and inform the UN, they have two years to relocate their headquarters in a neutral county, such as Switzerland. The UN has become nothing more than a central location whereupon any third world dictator has a platform to slam the USA, Israel, and on occasion some European countries in that order. Over the history of the UN, they have rarely solved ANY problem, usually exacerbating the situation instead.

PRITZKER AND DINNERJACKET WILL SAVE US!

Multi-billionnaire Penny Pritzker is hosting Hitler-wannabee Ahmadinejad on Thursday, 25 September at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in NYC. The Grand Hyatt is owned by the Hyatt Corporation, which is owned by H Group Holding, ultimately owned by the Pritzker family.

Penny Pritzker, one of 4 major heirs, is also the National Finance Chair/Treasurer of Barack Hussein Obama’s presidential campaign.

(Note: In the late 1990's and early 2000 the Pritzker family, Penny in particular, were pioneers in creating a new financial product called the 'subprime mortgage.' When their bank [Chicago's Superior Bank] failed, they ended up owing the government 1/2 billion dollars in unreimbursed FDIC insurance payments.)

Clearly Obama’s chief fundraiser could refuse to host Ahmadinejad at her hotel. Instead, she has rolled out the red carpet for him.

THINK BIG: Any bets that Obama won't throw either Penny Pritzer or Ahmadinejad under the bus? He needs Pritzker's expertise to advise him on how to raise our taxes after he appoints her as our new Treasury Secretary, and if he plays his cards right, he might even be able to recruit Dinnerjacket for Special Adviser of Security during the rest of his campaign, as well as Special US Diplomat -- National Security Adviser (when he's been awarded a dual citizenship), after Obama takes office.

Barack Hussein Obama has this election in the bag.

Heh.

Wrong and wrong.

The US can bomb the Iran nuclear program & the mullahs evil regime out of existence. It would not bankrupt the US at all, as the capital investment has already been made. We're only talking about the operating costs of a bombing campaign. There is absolutely no need to invade Iran with an army.

Stupider Commenter of the Weak

Everything Palin says is a lie. First of all Iran does not pose threat to our great nation because it does not have the capacity to even come close to shaking us. Secondly if it poses threat to Isreal, then Israel has to continue buying nuclear weapons from our great country as we have plenty of them. Sadly, what bothers Isreal is that it can't use the weapons that it has and refused to reveal that it posses them because the use of nukes will be suicidal for Isreal. For Iran to strike Isreal first will also be devastating to Iran. But our government has become pathological liars -- they find comfort in lying as they get away with it. It is not easy to build a nuclear bomb it takes many years. Iran's enrichment of uranium is for the benefit of its people so they can light up their cities at a rather cheap cost. However, that is not acceptable to a super power like us. We want to be in control of what belongs to them -- energy. Is that fair? Isreal wants to be the bully in the Middle East by causing a lot of harm to neighboring countries just because according to them and only them is that everyone is out to get them which may be true to a certain extent given their ruthless record. Ahmadinejad doesn't deny the holocaust -- it is so taken out of context. I am not a muslim, I am not Iranian, I am not a democrat but I am a concerned citizen of this country and the world. It was a response to what had occured in Austria where a history professor was incarcerated for revisiting the so called "facts" of the holocaust. He wanted to investigate the authenticity of certain matters. What is wrong with that? But his initiative was seen as a work of an anti semite. It always boils down to that. You can never have a decent discussion when investigation is not allowed. When you can't question facts you know there is something fishy going on. When you leave the US and go around the world no one cares about the holocaust. Why because they live it every day. Why do we care so much because there is an industry for the occurance and people are making money off of those who actually suffered and are dead. Ahmadinejad said that it didn't happen the way we think it did. WWII was very much a financial war that could have been prevented by America but we did not. Regardless, Sarah Palin is a radical. She would fit well in El Salvador with christian fanatics there. There are many countries including ours that punishes women in its own way -- is cherry picking fair? In Iran women are highly educated. That says something about them. It is not fair to make them sound so evil when they are not. They are just not afraid of Isreal and why should they be. That is not the way to live. Why do we care about Israel so much? Do you have investments there or is it religious reasons? Religion is not part of our constitution but people like Palin are pushing for it because it is with the presence of religion poor accepts their misery as something pre determined by god. All religious countries are not progressive because they are stuck dreaming for a reward after death. It is so clever. Sarah Palin is an extremist who will manipulate us and she will NEVER have to answer to our questions because we may be too hard on her. Is that democratic? That is tyranny. Think about all this rationally.

Hey, Hey, Mona? Mona!

OT question:
This $700 billion bailout...Where are these funds coming from? Is this a cash-on-hand source, or is this a tax increase or what? And if the Treasury has 700 billion to play with, why is anyone having financial problems?
I apologise in advance for what is probably a dumb question.

Nope, it'll take too long to crank up the printing presses to produce that much more worthless fiat (paper) money. We need something more substantial to pull us out of this mess.

Here's the optimistic view of this situation, based upon observances of our future society as shown in a few of the Star Trek series:

Paulson is going to be loaned an unlimited amount of gold bars from the Pleiadians, who will help us set up Planet Earth with a solid and reliable metal-backed currency (doing away completely with any fiat system, thus shooting down banking fraud forever) until we get on our feet with the new free-energy and alternative-energy systems that have been suppressed for so long. Petroleum use will be shut down. All of our public and private debts (mortgages, credit cards, etc. etc.) will be forgiven and totally wiped clean because the bank's records and crooked procedures are so completely f...ed up, and we'll start anew on a certified minimally-manned Constitutional Republic, with all-new genuine Treasury banks, with hope in our hearts and a song on our lips...

As a dedicated Star Trek fan, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

On reflection, I REALLY DO like that idea! Would we actually need the Pleiadians in order to grow up and establish a sane and ethical civilization? What's wrong with just DOING it? Sure, we don't have 500 gazillion tons of gold (or do we?) to make it happen, but just exactly what would be needed, besides a genuine declaration of honest and ethical behavior by our leaders? Congress has all of the 'stroke' that they need, to do so.

Has anybody ever wondered exactly why Alaska was able to issue a dividend check of $3,269. to each and every resident, this month? (Alaska doesn't have a State Income Tax, either.)

How can this be? Are Alaskans "greedy and un-American" for not sharing their wealth with the rest of the country, as I've heard?

No way. Every single state should be issuing their own dividend check to their citizens. Go HERE to view an enlightening video that I just found about yesterday. After viewing that video I was so outraged at "the system", that I couldn't sleep last night.

CHANGE is indeed in the air. Let's take maximum advantage of it, while the window is open.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia are both downwind of Israel. Do you really think they want Iran to splatter nuclear fallout all over the landscape? Furthermore, Afghanistan and Pakistan are both downwind of Iran, so you'd think that they might also have a say in this little love quarrel...

Iran is a "democracy" of sorts. You lean on this word too much. I don't think it actually has the meaning you are giving it.

Democracies could still choose to be vicious, Anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, homophobic, hate-filled, dangerous, rogue states.

Right.

If there is a "League of Democracies" (what is that. . .the Justice League?), membership criteria have to include regular Democratic elections, a State Constitution, rule of law, and certain guaranteed liberties, like Freedoms of Speech, religion, etc. Even then, you still wouldn't exclude all the thugocracies (eg Venezuela, etc).

It really is rather pointless to name a cat. It's not going to come when you call it's name if it doesn't want to. If it wants to come, it will come no matter what you call it. That said, two of our cats are twin yellow male cats named Romulus and Remus.

Not necessary, but not "pointless". You need some name to stick on the collar and on the form at the Vet's office.

If you have more than one, it might be useful to have designations for each of them (other than "yellow cat #1" and "yellow cat #2").

Plus, naming them can be "cute".

Why do you even own a cat (or more correctly, it own you). . .to get rid of mice?

A fundamental rule of economics is that things ultimately get paid for by entities with money. (People with no money can sometimes buy things on borrowed money. . .which ultimately comes from someone with money).

So who pays?
The Gov't. . .which has no revenues of its own.
Who pays for the Gov't? The taxpayer.
Who pays most of the taxes? The top earners.
So ultimately, its the top American earners who are going to pay for this mess.

War with Iran would bankrupt the US. Israel can defend itself fine now as it has nukes. Therefore Iran will not credibly dare to attack Israel, even if it would have nukes.

Think again:

Nuclear Weapons Can Solve the Israel Problem
[Supposed "moderate" former Iranian president Ali Hashemi] Rafsanjani said that Muslims must surround colonialism and force them [the colonialists] to see whether Israel is beneficial to them or not. If one day, he said, the world of Islam comes to possess the weapons currently in Israel's possession [meaning nuclear weapons] - on that day this method of global arrogance would come to a dead end. This, he said, is because the use of a nuclear bomb in Israel will leave nothing on the ground, whereas it will only damage the world of Islam.

The Mad Mullahs don't care a whit what Israel might do in retaliation because, even if Iran is obliterated, they know there are a billion Muslims in the world and Israel can't kill them all.

As a further extension of that, there's a very good chance that Iran's nukes would be shot down mid-trajectory, meaning that even if there was no nuclear explosion as such, there still would be a good deal of nuclear 'dirty-bomb' material splattered all over the landscape below.

Take a look at the map and see who would be affected, depending on the missile's trajectory: Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Do those countries care, and if they do, what are they doing about it?

It's not that cut-and-dried. Israel is rumored to have more nukes than we've previously been led to believe. If Israel really had their back against the wall and thought they were going down for sure, you can bet that the holy cities of Mecca and Medina would disappear in a split second.
