Tree-Sitters Get Unpleasant Surprise

Moonbats | Mon, Sep 22, 2008 at 12:07:02 pm PDT

The tree-dwelling moonbats recently evicted from UC Berkeley are getting a reminder that free speech isn’t free: UC hits tree-sitters with expensive surprise.

Berkeley’s infamous tree-sitters have been hit with a rude surprise since they came down to earth: Judges are socking them with thousands of dollars in fines and legal fees.

Ironically, much of the money - which could total more than $10,000 per sitter - is going straight to the University of California, the very institution the tree-sitters were protesting as they tried to save a grove of trees outside Memorial Stadium.

“It’s really vindictive,” said an attorney for some the sitters, Dennis Cunningham. “They don’t have this kind of money.”

Maybe, but university lawyer Michael Goldstein isn’t making any apologies. “We’ve asked the judge to throw the book at them,” Goldstein said flatly.

UC Berkeley estimates it spent more than $800,000 on police and other security measures during the 22 months sitters were up in the trees. The university spent $40,000 alone on the scaffolding that went up around the final tree during the last day of the protest this month.

Youch! $10,000 bucks a pop! Funny thing is, if they had actually come down when they figured out the trees weren't actually "old growth" and the Indian burial ground wasn't, they wouldn't be shelling out half their tuition on top.
But that would require these moonbats make sense.

Well, apparently they got plenty of free time since they could sit in a tree for months. Sounds like they can get jobs to me and get their pay docked.

They're going to have to sell a lot of Dumpster Muffins™ at the bake sale to pay those fines off.

I wonder how many are on their cells to their parents or the administrators of their trust funds.

I was reading an article the other day in anticipation of the Golden Bears/Terrapins game this past weekend (Terps won!), and they had comments from a couple of the Berkeley players to the effect that they were really glad the sitters were gone. They were annoying and ugly and stinky and stuff.

Sitters just don't get no respect! Good.

Moonbats are so high-maintenance. If it's not the $10 roll of TP at Whole Foods, it's the finicky vegetarianism, the costly hybrids, the carbon credits for their consciences, and now the outrageous fines.

So what were they protecting? Earth? Ummm .... yeah.

Because the owner owns his property.

We had some activists locally trying to save one old house that was going to be torn down for (gasp!) a golf course. They could have purchased the house ten times over with the time, effort, and money they put into trying to make the city MAKE the golf course save it.

If you right click on it and "save as" you should be able to open it like a regular jpeg. It worked that way for me after I just got code when I clicked on the link.

BTW, any net savvy lizards know why some files do that when you click on them instead of showing up as a picture in the browser when you click on them, while a seemingly identical link works correctly? I see it happen on occasion and have no idea why the browser does not recognize it as a picture.

They may be other files, but saved with a .jpeg extension to make you think they are images. Run your virus scan.

OT :

While most news outlets are doing "what if there is an electoral tie?" story, the BBC has kindly obliged the Democrats by declaring the Constitutionally proscribed resolution to be "fair" in the time of Jefferson, but "unfair in 2008."

Two centuries ago, the unit rule was less undemocratic since population disparities among the handful of states were smaller, and Americans were much more accepting of elite control and a lack of popular sovereignty.

The United States of 2008 has very different values.

Think about what House selection of a president would mean today. Gargantuan California would have the same single House vote in choosing the new president as sparsely populated Wyoming, even though California has about 70 times its population. The votes of the mega-states of Florida, New York, and Texas could be cancelled out by the tiny populations of Montana, Rhode Island, and South Dakota.

Furthermore, large state delegations could internally deadlock via tie votes. Some large states might be deprived even of their single vote for the presidency. Tens of millions of people could be disenfranchised in this fashion.

I will point out that an electoral college tie would coincide with a statistical tie in the race, which is where we are right now.

But that isn't mentioned by the BBC. I assume that is because McCain would clearly win a tie breaker in the House. Were it the other way around, we would be hearing about how erudite the founders were.

Also not mentioned is that this method will never be amended out of the Constitution because an amendment would require ratification by many of the states that benefit from the Electoral College and the "unit rule" on tie breakers.

THE TREES

There was unrest on the campus
There was trouble in the trees
For the moonbats want more redwoods
But the school ignored their pleas

The trouble with the moonbats
And they're quite convinced of their plight
They say the trees are like us humans
So they deserve to have their rights
The libs can't help their feelings
It's just the way they're made
That's the reason why they
started this stupid crusade

The protest now is over
And the protesters all have fled
As the moonbats scream "Oppression!"
the normal people just shake their heads

I went through a mildly "eco" period in my early twenties. It was during the times of "Save the Rainforest." Rather than plaster my car with bumper stickers intreating the driver behind me to Save the Rainforest, I bought 4ftx4ft squares of rainforest as Christmas gifts for everyone that year.

Because the owner owns his property.

We had some activists locally trying to save one old house that was going to be torn down for (gasp!) a golf course. They could have purchased the house ten times over with the time, effort, and money they put into trying to make the city MAKE the golf course save it.

True - back then.

Now, with the Eminent Domain decision by SCOTUS, you'd be fartin' in the wind for all the good it'd do you to buy the property.

First off these tree monkeys are paid to tree sit.

The head monkey finds an ad in monkey times and
then conveys it to his stoned out tribe.

Some dim-witted lawyer-ly front group with usually
nefarious intentions hire these tree jockeys for a nominal
fee. Certainly not enough to pay 10K each for
accrued and actual damages, not to mention
anything in the punitive department.

Since their breaking the law, why shouldn't
good citizens be allowed to toss rocks at them
after eviction warrants are clearly posted?

If the law doesn't act responsibly isn't it incumbent upon
the citizens to ACT?

Not act up, but act fairly for those who pay
the freight?

Why are citizens charged unFAIRly for the wrongful
actions of tree monkey's bought and paid for by
some pack of idiot lawyers with a subversive cause?

Squeeze these monkeys and find out who paid
them and then go after them already.

When these lawyers are tied up in court the
shoe will be where it belongs.

I love it! Idiots mourning dead trees! This goes to show how stupid environmentalists are. Memo to you greenie losers...dead trees help complete the circle of life in the forest. Their decay fortifies the forest floor's soil, helping to bring about NEW LIFE. I have an old-growth forest down the road from me, lovingly protected by the Nature Conservancy. A sign at the trailhead tells you to not disturb ANYTHING -- especially take dead wood away -- for this very reason. The only evidence of human activity you see in this forest is trail maintenance, and for me, it's a nice peaceful place to go sometimes when I want to go somewhere quiet so I can just hear myself think.

The Monopoly Myth: The Case of Standard Oil
By Alex Epstein

Georgia Institute of Technology
Location: Smith Building Room 105
Time: 7:00 PM
Club Contact: Philip Blaiklock, philipb2@yahoo.com

In a lively discussion, panelists debate whether beliefs and policies surrounding climate change are justified.

It is now widely believed that man-made greenhouse gases are causing an unnatural warming of the earth that will have devastating consequences for human life. Environmentalists and politicians are pressing for severe restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions aimed at preventing global warming. But are these beliefs and policies justified? What does the scientific evidence actually support regarding the causes of climate variability and the role of anthropogenic greenhouse gases? Are the predictions of catastrophic changes supported by scientific fact? Is government economic intervention aimed at severely restricting greenhouse gases an appropriate policy response? Panelists will address these critical issues in a spirited discussion.

Panelists

Keith Lockitch is a fellow at the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights, specializing in science and environmental policy. His writings have appeared in publications such as The Orange County Register, the San Francisco Chronicle, Australia's Herald Sun and The Canberra Times, and USA Today magazine. Dr. Lockitch has been a frequent guest on radio shows such as The Thom Hartmann Program on Air America Radio. He is also a contributing writer for The Objective Standard, a quarterly journal of culture and politics.

Dr. Lockitch teaches for the Ayn Rand Institute's Objectivist Academic Center; he teaches writing for the center's undergraduate program and a history of physics course for its graduate program. He holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and has conducted postdoctoral research in relativistic astrophysics at the University of Illinois and at Pennsylvania State University.

Ironically, much of the money - which could total more than $10,000 per sitter - is going straight to the University of California, the very institution the tree-sitters were protesting as they tried to save a grove of trees outside Memorial Stadium.

Someone explain to me how that's "ironic". There's nothing at all ironic about holding someone responsible for their actions...

re: #58 Silhouette

Imagine, if you will, that all the moonbats involved (The tree-sitters and their ground-dwelling assistants) had put all the same time and effort for the past 2 years into paying jobs, even at $8/hr.

Say there are 80 moonbats, at 32 hours/week, at $8/hour, times 104 weeks = $2.1 million.

Can you imagine how much pristine forested land they could have purchased with that kind of money and therefore preserved forever?

But but but...working within the system isn't something good. That would never work...you're just feeding the military industrial complex man!

It's all fun and games when mommy and daddy pay the bills, until you get a judgment of your own $10,000 to pay. Cheers to UC Berkley. Wow I never thought I would say that.
