I wonder if names become "off limits" once someone uses it but gets banned; or if similar names are forbidden by "the program" (or programmer).

You don't see too many similar names, etc. I've been registered here so long, I never had to deal with it.

You need to have thought about it carefully. Most people have their name on a post-it noite stuck to their computer screen, waiting for the day...

Registration is still open, so you can always now quickly come up with a better name, register that, and then say you want "JacksonTn" deleted. Maybe?

CEO murdered by mob of sacked Indian workers

Lalit Kishore Choudhary, 47, the head of the Indian operations of Graziano Transmissioni, an Italian-headquartered manufacturer of car parts, died of severe head wounds on Monday afternoon after being attacked by scores of laid-off employees, police said.

The incident, in Greater Noida, just outside the Indian capital, followed a long-running dispute between the factory's management and workers who had demanded better pay and permanent contracts.

Because in his head, he thinks he already is president - The Chosen One, you know.

I've heard him say, now, five or six times, "I'm not trying to dictate . . .".

Interesting choice of words. A better word for a freedom-lover who understands that the people are the gov't, would be "suggest", I think. But he apparently thinks "dictate" is the appropriate word.

Biden makes about 27 gaffes per hour. And, naturally, the media ignores them. But if Palin ever mis-used a semicolon -- hooboy, we'd be hearing about it for weeks!

Gaffes make for great partisan entertainment, but the reality is that they rarely decide elections.

Biden is particularly immune. . .he can make all the gaffes he likes, as nobody is listening to him or even paying attention.

3. All paragraphs referring to Sarah Palin must include the word 'lipstick.'

And so on.

FROM tmp, users
WHERE tmp.ip = users.ip

ORDER BY users.ip, users.name

This should do roughly the same. Did a quick test but I don't have the user table.

SELECT u.name, COUNT(u.ip) AS count, u.ip
FROM users u, users u2
WHERE u.created >= '2008-09-23'

I'm tellin ya'll, there is an Eagleton maneuver in the works...watch Biden really f'up at the debate.

Everyone is talking about Obama dumping Biden, but I just don't see it.

Obama has a VERY hard time admitting mistakes.

Apart from the obvious show of indecisiveness (and bad vetting), Biden is concurrently running for re-election in the Senate, and if he drops out for "health" reasons, he'd put his Senate seat in jeopardy. Why would he want to do that?

Plus Obama and his campaign are nothing, if not arrogant. He's ahead in the polls right now. So why change things?

Lastly, if the ship is sinking so fast that Obama feels the need to toss Biden over the side, why the hell would Hilary Clinton then want to jump onboard? At best, she'd be playing second fiddle to Obama (who could toss her as easily as he tossed Biden). At worst, she'd go down with him, tarring her prospects for a future run.

You didn't sign up for that 3 a.m. text message did you?

/

I don't have a cell phone. No 3 am texts for me. I opened it and it's not even my name! Here's Michelle. Hey, do you suppose there's some way we could infiltrate the Debate Parties? Conservative trolls!

"Joan--
This Friday, we'll reach another milestone in this campaign -- the first debate
of the general election, on September 26th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. Millions of Americans will tune in to watch Barack debate John McCain about
America's foreign policy and our role in the world. Barack will share his plan to bring the change we need -- to restore our place in the world, ensure security at home and abroad, and reestablish the United States as the world's economic leader. This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about the issues. And it's also a great opportunity for you to share Barack's message of change with your friends, family, and neighbors by attending or hosting a Debate Watch Party. Watch the debate with friends and supporters, and talk about how you can get involved in this movement.
I recorded a brief message about these parties. Please take a moment to watch the video and sign up to attend or host a Debate Watch Party in your community: [Link: my.barackobama.com...] Many Americans are still learning about Barack and this movement for change. They don't know about his plan to restore the middle class, cut taxes for 95 percent of American families, provide health care for every American, achieve
energy independence, improve our schools, and responsibly end the war in Iraq. Many people also don't know that John McCain has voted with George Bush more than 90 percent of the time -- including to continue Bush's failed Iraq policies, not investigating the government response to Katrina, not supporting children's health care, not supporting college benefits for returning veterans, and passing tax cuts for the rich at the expense of the middle class. This debate is a chance for Americans to hear directly from Barack. And with just a few weeks left before Election Day, it's more important than ever that we bring people together and talk about the issues that matter in our communities. I hope you'll watch my short message and sign up to attend or even host a Debate Watch Party: [Link: my.barackobama.com...] Thank you for all that you're doing,
Michelle

Very interesting suggestion, I will have to run it through the committees, rewrite the proposal per their suggestiions, present it to the committees again, request final approval on a committee level, offer it to the executive board, rewrite their proposal per their suggestions, make copies, distribute to the executive review sub-committee, re-propose to the executive board, get acceptance, make copies, bind the volumes, submit to the attorneys, submit to the accountants, resubmit to the executive committee, get a signature from the chief executive, get it notarized, resubmit to the attorneys.....then get back to you on it!

The Biden gaffe machine is in full swing!

Biden opposes AIG bailout before Obama has chance to support it.
Biden opposes clean coal after Obama pledges support for it.
Biden calls Obama's ad "Terrible".
Biden's Depression-era History knowledge deeply faulty.

And these are all from the last 24 hours! Biden is a natural disaster. He is blowing through the Obama campaign like a Cat-4 hurricane.

"JustMyView", a few days ago, made a comment to the effect that "everybody knows" that Palin spent several days with various experts getting up to speed on things, and I responded that the politician who does not seek the advice and counsel of experts is not doing what he/she should be doing.

And here we seem to have severak examples of that.

Obama and Biden need to have a meeting and get clear on what their platform is, before either of them speaks again.

re: #456 buzzsawmonkey

Because that worked out so well the first time.

Short of his *legitimate* physical incapacitation, switching out the VP candidate would probably backfire, as it would absolutely reek of indecisiveness and desperation on Obama's part.

Its true Obama could replace Biden without his consent, but not only would abruptly firing Biden look absolutely horrible, but Biden would be virtually guaranteed to then turn around and bite Obama back.

So for this to happen Biden would have to agree to it. Why would he agree? As already mentioned, he's running for re-election in the Senate too, and pulling out of the race with serious illness (real or imagined) could put his Senate seat in jeopardy. Plus if he fakes it, there is a good chance he'd get caught, potentially making him a laughingstock (or more of one).

Also Biden has been eyeing the White House for years, and this is the furthest he's ever gotten. Its also likely the closest he ever WILL get to it. So why would he give up now?

B0 sowing a few wild oats?

Or as the scandal it really is?

Do you get Fox in Wales? At this stage of the news cycle, it's most likely to show up in the Grapevine section, which is a series of quick hits on assorted topics. Some of them are humorous, others not. This is most assuredly not humorous. If the story gets legs, it may get its own segment, which will probably include a correspondent, comments from Stanley Kurtz, background about CAC, etc. The ultimate, IMHO, is when it's a topic for the All-Stars (a rotating panel that frequently includes Charles Krauthammer, Fred Barnes, Mort Kondrake, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams and others). At that point, it's broken wide open and may easily dominate the news cycle for days.

Can you tell I watch waaaaay too much Brit?

re: #561 Kenneth

Is Obama a Manchurian candidate?

A must read piece.

The big puzzle with Obama is where is the reality? Is he the ultimate self made man, the new Gatsby? Is he really an empty suit, the new Chance from Being There? Is he a sociopath creating a reality he gets others to submit to, the Talented Mr Ripley? Is he truly the product of long term planning and training by Frank Davis, Bill Ayers and Islamists in Indonesia and Pakistan, a Manchurian Candidate? These choices become increasingly bizarre and unlikely. The problem is that we begin to reject them based on the very intolerability of their implications and not because of anything we know about the man himself. After this election I expect that there will be a push to ensure that we have a healthier system in which politicians are carefully observed over a period of time. That would produce a more Parliamentary form of government with stronger party organizations. The problem is that system would have produced only one of the four national candidates now running, Joe Biden. Neither McCain nor Palin, or any other reformer, would have been raised to the top in a British system of strong party controls. The wonder is that Thatcher did.

re: #569 reloadingisnotahobby

What?
Who the hell wants to be the third party owner of friking
lightfixtures?
Where's the money in that! There is so much I truely do not understand!LOL

You would not believe the ownership of this place, it is only something lawyers could come up with (no offense intended). The building has two underground parking lots accessed through the same door and ramp.

One is directly underneath the building and owned and operated by the building owner. The other (where I park) is not under the footprint of the building, rather it is directly underneath an outside parking lot, next to our building. Yes, for any attorneys out there, the building has an easement to use the parking ramp which is the only access to the parking lot directly under the building, and yes they can, with notice, prohibit people from using it (bad deal, but I didnt make it).

Many moons ago, the owners went into bankruptcy and began to sell off assets - such as greatly valued downtown parking. The Parking company only owns the inside lot underneath the outside parking. The outside parking is owned by the third party.

Who owns what only becomes an issue like now, when there is some sort of liability to share. The parking company claims that the light fixture on top of my car (just paid off) is part of the land owned by the third party lot owner above.

I told them, sweetly, that I could not care less who own what, at 4:00 p.m. I am leaving with or without the issue resolved and will bill them for the repairs to my car (which I will do anyway).

Interesting questions, but I don't think the US will change to a British parliamentary system. As a Canadian, where our system is based on the British model, I can tell you the average citizen has even less input into who our party leaders are. A far smaller percentage of Canadians are members of any party, party power brokers wield much greater control and the media is even more in cahoots with the leftist & liberal parties.

re: #599 doppelganglander

Nope - I personally don't get FOX. I'm still on the old-fashioned free-to-air TV, and refuse to pay good money for effen cable or satellite.
Mostly, I get stuff from the web - faster and easier to switch around to check who is saying what and who is copying whom.

re: #661 Kenneth

Interesting questions, but I don't think the US will change to a British parliamentary system. As a Canadian, where our system is based on the British model, I can tell you the average citizen has even less input into who our party leaders are. A far smaller percentage of Canadians are members of any party, party power brokers wield much greater control and the media is even more in cahoots with the leftist & liberal parties.

All valid problems. The genuis of the US Constitution, copied partly by our brave friend to the North, is entrenchment of both stability and popular soveriegnty. Stable because the Republican system deliberatly should ensure that popular passions are kept away from the central government. That is why there is an Electoral College instead of direct election and why the Senate was originally elected by state legislatures. Popular soveriegnty is strengthened in theory by having Representatives and those state legislatures accountable directly to the people and not to party bosses who draw up lists of approved candidates.

That end of things has broken down. Local citizens have no control over their party organizations, no control over who runs or is elected to local offices or legislative slots, and no way to prevent a completely unqualified idiot from getting into office. At the same time the weak level of party discipline compared to a more British system means that it is much easier for a demogogue like Obama to interject himself into the system.

Nope - I personally don't get FOX. I'm still on the old-fashioned free-to-air TV, and refuse to pay good money for effen cable or satellite.
Mostly, I get stuff from the web - faster and easier to switch around to check who is saying what and who is copying whom.

You're getting much more accurate info on the web, and certainly more different viewpoints. I've gotten to the point where media analysis is a major hobby for me, and a terrible annoyance to my family. As my mom says, "Why can't you just watch TV like other people?"

Just posted this on my church's "justice blog".

Should church leaders welcome Ahmadinejad?

I would posit "No". Some pacifist Christians have tried to paint this as a modern-day version of Jesus sitting down to eat with the Tax Collectors, etc.. but there's some crucial differences they fail to see. What was Jesus' purpose for doing that? What equivalent action are we as His followers supposed to take? He accepted their invitation of hospitality and took the Truth to them. He wouldn't have backed down or stayed quiet in the presence of evil or given tacit approval to an unrepentant leader who was in the middle of murdering Christ's people and other innocents. Two women in Tehran are due to be stoned to death next week for adultery which is sadly ironic considering what Jesus said about stoning the adulteress. These church "leaders" who are hosting their very expensive party love the cameras and the press they get and the laudatory comments from the world and therefore will not press him on any injustices because that would be gauche and would ruin their relationship. What good is a relationship if it is not to call evil evil and thus bring the Truth to our world? As you can see, I am very bothered by this injustice in the name of ecumenism and peace.

Oh, for F*&$s sake!

I've been involved in two cases like this as a firefighter.

The court documents allege "witnesses observed that the Medic One personnel appeared overwhelmed by the situation, and they did not know what medical devices to use on Devan."

The documents also state the medics did not get the boy to the hospital fast enough, and even contend the ambulance drove too slowly.

The 911 operators on duty "negligently canceled" a helicopter airlift, the family alleges, and the county's medics and 911 staff are not properly trained.

Were this occurred the Medics are full time professional, the FD would be volunteer, my first volunteer FD was just north of these guys.

We used to call situations like this assholes and elbows. All a bystanders sees is the asses and elbows of the rescue effort. It's controlled chaos, and unless you've been there it looks like pure chaos.

Sanchez is the same goofus who had on some Mennonites (the one's who are also so anxious to honour the Iranian hitlerite.) It's just par for the course for CNN...

(from the website Joo-Tube)

"Ronald S. Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, said: 'These organizations, who present themselves as altruistic and who have global influence, are promoting the world's foremost supporter of terrorism and an egregious violator of human rights. It was Ahmadinejad who held the first-ever state-sponsored international conference of Holocaust deniers. It is Ahmadinejad who is posing a threat to the United States and to Europe, and who has repeatedly called for the annihilation of Israel. It is Ahmadinejad who is defying the United Nations Charter with his mistreatment of minorities and women, and violates the UN Genocide Convention by threatening the destruction of another member state. It is Ahmadinejad who is steadfastly ignoring UN Security Council resolutions and who continually lies to the International Atomic Energy Agency about the real intentions of his nuclear program, endangering not only his neighbors in the Middle East but the entire world. Such a man cannot be a partner for peace and inter-faith dialogue.'
Lauder added: 'These groups, who claim to hold up values such as peace and mutual understanding, make a mockery of themselves by shamelessly providing a cruel dictator and racist with a platform for his invective. There is no purpose in dignifying him. The World Council of Churches, the Quakers and the other sponsors of the event in New York have a long and distressing record of demonizing Israel. With their bow to Ahmadinejad, they have brazenly chosen a racist dictator as their friend."

Let's see if I have all the taboos (for the newbies):

Don't mention "Globular Clusters"

Don't mention Comment #17

Don't ask what "Little Green Footballs" stands for.

Don't poke the dog, he don't take kindly to it.

Anything else?

Sure.. When posting on an ID thread always make sure to tell Charles that you want the topic changed..
2. When Mandy comes on-line try to be the first one to tell her to piss up a rope..for some reason she likes that..
3. If you are the first one on a thread..It's a tradition to post 'First!'
/you get extra lizard points for that...
4. If you can't make sense..It's better to just resort to flaming lizards..
/ Jorline makes a mean flaming Lizard dish
5. Don't forget..If you got a problem..It's always the joos that caused it.
6. Posting while drunk is a privilege not a right..
I think those are the major points..anyone else?
oh yea..this '/' means you really frigging mean it..

A Night at the Opera. If it's not classic rock, it ought to be.

I miss Freddie.

Good choice. There's an excellent VH1 program on the making of that album. I learned that Freddie could sing something precisely the same, take after take, enabling them to layer the vocals to get that amazing sound. What a voice.

I'm really unclear on how that would induce anyone to buy the product....

There are, I understand, places in Napa and Sonoma where you can do that. It's supposed to be both excitingly exhibitionist and private.

Do not ask me. I don't quite get it, either.

So it's possibly a real-world reference.

Thank you. The concept of that ad has been driving me crazy; now it makes a infinitesimal bit of sense...

Low Spark of High Heeled Boys....

Traffic and Steve Winwood are huge favorites of mine. I admit, though, that I sometimes listen to Traffic and wonder if there's something wrong with me, because some of it sounds like they were completely stoned.

Cast iron tubs are heavy, have to drag them to the meadow.
Boil 150 gallons of water, haul it to the meadow.
Moving cows to the upper pasture, don't want the cows sticking their slobbering nose in the tub.
Clear the path to the tub of cow pies.
Since I so hot, sweaty, and smell like cow pies from all the work need to shower first.
Get to tubs....
Water's gone cold.

Oh my goodness, you never had a chance to even sample the food. German food is the BEST. Not many German Restaurants around the states can come close to true German cooking.

When in Mn try out the German eateries in New Ulm (home of Herman the German).
