Mini-Hitler at the UN

World | Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 1:29:28 pm PDT

Here’s a thread for reactions and responses to Iranian thug-in-chief Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his weird speech to the United Nations General Assembly, while waiting for the first moonbat to praise his “spirituality.”

Well, you can watch this live. If you can stomach it.

6 MrSilverDragon  Tue, Sep 23, 2008 1:31:35pm

Not watching it, not listening to it. I pretty much know what he's gonna say anyways. The spiteful little man needs to be sent packing home.

His own people will deal with him.

25 lawhawk  Tue, Sep 23, 2008 1:34:31pm

Who has to wait for someone to praise his spirituality. He's just someone with whom you need dialogue with in order to avoid war. Of course, you've got to avoid including any Jews in those talks (and I certainly wouldn't include the neturei karta who willingly go out of their way to mug for the cameras with Ahmadinejad because they oppose the existence of Israel just as much as Ahmadinejad does).

26 Silhouette  Tue, Sep 23, 2008 1:34:31pm

"Liberals" never met a murderous dictator they didn't like. Usually because the murderous dictators are the sworn enemies of the US of A, and that's the bravest, noblest deed in the handbook of moonbattia.

It is a disgrace that the UN allows this asshole to speak. He disgraces the ideals and the spirit that were the basis for founding the UN, and shows that it has sunk too low to be rehabilitated.
Time to eliminate the UN and replace it with an organization that has in its charter that any leader calling for the elimination of any member state results in his nation being suspended and if continued, its membership would be revoked.

Instead, the UN rewards this behavior.

UN OUT OF THE US

I think threats and suggesting that he be assassinated while here results in the post being deleted and/or banning.

However, in the past, I've been able to say that I hope he visits one of his nuclear sites soon, and there is an accident that leaves him with terminal radiation sickness.

UN OUT OF THE US

For that matter, UN GO TO HELL.

The UN now exists to maintain the status quo- the enable thugs because they have themselves become a gang of thugs.

There is no reforming the UN- it has to go, and replacing the UN will more likely than not end up leaving us with another UN. We could start a League of Democracies, but there are too few democracies that actually stand up for democracy, while other democracies are willing to enable thugs, which is why we have the UN we have today. Hell- too many democracies can't even protect their own form of government.

Uncharacteristically low turnout for Barack Obama rally in Green Bay, Wisc.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Hoping to shore up support in his suddenly undependable backyard, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama flew here Monday to talk about how he’d handle economic crises as president.

Recent polls have shown that Wisconsin — once pretty solidly in Obama’s column — is now a statistical dead heat between Obama and Republican John McCain.

Iran's Ahmadinejad Addresses U.N.; Declares 'American Empire' Reaching 'End of Road'

With major world leaders watching and just eight hours after President Bush's final speech before the general assembly, Ahmadinejad used the U.N. platform to decry a "zionist regime" for what he called a persecution on Arab peoples around the globe.

In a direct attack on the U.S., he declared that the "American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road."

The criticism of the West made in his speech seemed to conflict with earlier statements Ahmadinejad made during an interview with National Public Radio, wherein he argued that he does not want confrontation with the United States.

In the hours leading up to his speech, Ahmadinejad blamed U.S. military interventions around the world in part for the collapse of global financial markets ahead of his speech Tuesday to the U.N. General Assembly.

Sounds like Obama may have a new running mate since he and Biden can't agree on anything lately.

Supporting "genocidal Israel" will come in time. First they can start by connecting the dots between the status of gays and women in Israel compared with that in the surrounding countries, then hitting themselves repeatedly with a cluebat.

Baby steps.

The better leftists already have a great story on this.

First Israel is not being good to Gays, or Women. Gays are opposed by the religious, and as for women, they point to the marriage laws (again religious).

Also palestinian gays who try and escape to Israel are used by the mossad to betray muslims/arabs.

None of it is true, but truth is not usually part of the argument.

Schedule of Ahmadinejhad dinner

Arrival, and meet and greet

Anti-Semitic jokes

Holocaust denial

Praising Hitler

Dinner

Explain how Islam is peaceful

Call for Israel's destruction

Teach the dinner guests the shahada

Inform them they are all now Muslim and the penalty for apostasy.

Guests depart

Very OT but has anyone else here heard rumors that after the VP debate, Biden is going to fein illness and pull himself from the VP slot?

Rumor has been floating all around.
I don't buy it for a second. For the nth time:

a. Biden wants to be in the White house, and this is the closest he's ever been, or likely to get. So why would he give up now?
b. Biden is concurrently running for re-election for his Senate seat. If he has to pull out of the VP slot, that could jeopardize his Senate seat, another reason for him not to agree to play here.
c. Obama is arrogant and is (at least for the moment) ahead in the polls. Why would he resort to this obvious desperation move while ahead?
d. If his campaign is doing so poorly that Obama feels the need to toss Biden over the side, why would Hilarious Clinton want to jump onto that sinking ship? She's not stupid.

Again, its an open question as to how much personal involvement Ahmadinejad has with the covert nuke program, but by most accounts, its negligible. He mostly runs the day-to-day (non-military) state activities. Get rid of him, and it wouldn't really change anything.

If there is to be "regime change" in Iran, it has to eliminate the "Supreme Leader" Khamenei, who is the individual responsible for controlling Iran's military.

322 Kosh's Shadow  Tue, Sep 23, 2008 2:32:23pm

re: #307 looking closely

Again, its an open question as to how much personal involvement Ahmadinejad has with the covert nuke program, but by most accounts, its negligible. He mostly runs the day-to-day (non-military) state activities. Get rid of him, and it wouldn't really change anything.

If there is to be "regime change" in Iran, it has to eliminate the "Supreme Leader" Khamenei, who is the individual responsible for controlling Iran's military.

In that case, I hope the mullassholes take a tour of one of their nuclear facilities when there is a major accident and they all die of radiation sickness and poisoning from UF6. Even better if this is due to an earthquake with the ground splitting open, and a great voice booming out "Mess with My chosen people! No you don't!"

I believe this is OK because I'm not threatening anyone.

Okay, maybe everyone on my list doesn't 'deserve' to die. However, at a minimum, they are at least SUPER ANNOYING. To me, anyway.

Maybe when Dinnerjacket leaves NY this week for the green, green hills of Tehran, he can take the 25,000 to 30,000 Mennonites of Lancaster County, PA with him. They love them some "peaceful" Muslims. Just the "inbreds" of the U.S. showing love and respect for the inbreds of Persia, Transjordan, etc.

I'm pretty sure that the Amish do NOT belong to the Mennonite Conference. They, and other strict order Mennonite types, do not even vote, much less run around making sanctimonious, moraly illiterate displays of themselves.
You can bet that the Mennonite peace activists come from the liberal churches, i.e., the ones that have little or few requirements about dress, using technology, etc.

True, but without knowing the limits it is best to stay away from the edge of the precipice. We are supposed to be civilized. I also want to see the world complete the trifecta, and capture Ratko Mladic to go along with Slobodan Milosevic and Radovan Karadzic.

Just from the ads, it looks like Stone's taken alot of liberties w/the facts (why stop this late in his career?) and everything from the popcorn that W choked on to Guantanamo Bay are played up for laughs....at least in the trailers.

IMHO, a professional soldier wishing for the death of the enemy is a whole different ball game from an average citizen wishing for the death of an individual.

I am going to assume you support their work which definitely involves killing enemy.

I am an average citizen who supports that work and who does indeed wish for the demise of any number of individuals, most of whom have been mentioned above.

I am not PC in the least about these things. Nor should anyone be. This is an existential conflict though many remain in denial.

Change In Washington.

2008 Citizens' Guide to Sound Transit, Phase 2,

• ST2 would spend about $22.8 billion, yet serve only 0.4 percent of all trips in 2030.

• ST2 would shift only 0.84 percent of passenger vehicles from the road to transit by 2030.

• ST2 would spend $22.8 billion to reduce VMT by only 0.867 percent.

• The cost for ST2 to serve one additional trip would be about $368,000. Under Transit Now, the cost for King County to serve one additional trip is about $10,000.

• The ST2 proposal would be 37 times less efficient than a traditional bus system like the one in King County.

• ST2 would increase traffic congestion for passenger cars and freight trucks by about 25 percent across the I-90 bridge.

• ST2 would reduce lane capacity on I-90 by 20 percent during the morning and afternoon peak commute periods.

• ST2 would eliminate subarea equity protections.

• Not counting CO2 emitted during construction, ST2 would reduce regional CO2 emissions by up to only 1.11 percent. The same reduction could be achieved through purchasing carbon offsets for only $2.3 million.

That's change you can keep! But hey, it's only $7,500 per person the tax authority area! And according to Biden it's patriotic.

The military, taking out a target who is responsible for the death of thousands, likely tens of thousands of people, No, of course not. The wheels of justice and all that. Reveling in the thought of cold blooded murder is way beneath the Lizard Nation. Demanding and awaiting justice, and celebrating that justice is wholly correct. This is what separates the civilized from the vicious killers of the world. We don't do things the way the murderous thugs do. Interesting, just got this from McCain/Palin campaign:

Shalom from the McCain-Palin Campaign,

As the New Year approaches, the campaign is heating up and preparing for victory on Nov 4th. We expect an unprecedented shift in Jewish voters around the country---and with your help we can make it happen!

As you may know, Governor Sarah Palin was slated to address Jewish organizations and their allies at the Stop-Iran Rally in New York. Unfortunately, she was subsequently uninvited by those who chose to politicize a non-partisan issue. Senator McCain and Governor Palin remain deeply committed to a strong and secure Israel and preventing Iran from attaining its nuclear ambitions. We have included the text of the speech Governor Palin was to give at the Stop-Iran Now Rally in New York today, and a link to her editorial in the NY Sun. Please help spread this message.

Thank you all for your support of Senator McCain and Governor Palin.
Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Sweet New Year! Shana Tovah Umetukah!
Warm Regards,

The Jewish Advisory Coalition

i can accept being a pacifist in your personal life but the contradiction why do these so called pacifist worship the most violent in the world?

The Quakers (Friends) did compulsory alternative service during WW2, as did the Mennonites. The Quakers, incidentally, have always been VERY active in politics, as opposed to conservative Mennonites, Amish, Dunkers, Brethren, etc. most of whom do not even vote or participate in any "worldly" affairs.

All I'm pointing out is that the Mennonites breaking bread with the Dwarf are the "progressive" and "liberal" ones, the ones who have long since given up on the strict rules of living and the Biblical morality of the traditional Mennonites.

These "Christians" dancing with the Dwarf are the same as the "peace" activists wearing Che Guevara shirts and glorifying Mao.
Except they are serving idols in the name of a God they no longer believe in. To hell with them.

Then Barry will stand, look him straight in the eye

"How could you do that?" Obama will say
"I said all the right words and you promised to stay!
Stay in your borders and not fire a shot.
Do you not know that my words mean a lot?"

Like I said before, speak to the boss.

I assume you have reported those comments to Charles. Thank you for your service. Why do you need to point out the comments? Did you not realize there would be even more discussion? And you make it difficult for Charles to clean up after the fact, if he deemed them inappropriate.

In other news, Congress did it's best to ruin the market today by dithering and arguing.

Stocks thud to lower close as bailout questioned

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Stocks on Tuesday wavered in and out of positive terrain with investors in limbo with further hearings Wednesday on the Bush administration's $700 billion proposal to relieve banks of bad debt and bring back the troubled credit markets.
"Investors remain reluctant to stick their necks out too far, even as policy-makers meet to discuss the proposed bailout plan. A nagging fear of 'what ifs' is also weighing on sentiment," said Frederic Ruffy, options strategist at WhatsTrading.com.

Of course, some in Washington could not resist getting in their digs about Iraq.

Some critics likened the White House's hurried approach to the financial market crisis to its headlong plunge into the Iraq War. See full report.
As Washington debates the proposal to fix the housing market's woes, the government reported U.S. home values fell 0.6% in July from June.

Hopefully tomorrow some samity will prevail. The early futures seem to indicate so:

Financial stocks rise as bailout plan hashed out

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Financial-sector stocks gained ground Tuesday evening as investors assessed moves by U.S. government officials to gain approval for a massive $700 billion package to bail out banks that are holding bad debts on their books.
Fannie Mae shares picked up steam as the evening session progressed, climbing 11% to $1.46. Freddie Mac rose 8.3% to $1.43, Bank of America Corp. shook off losses for a 1% advance to $33.64 and Washington Mutual Inc. picked up 0.3% to $3.21,
American International Group edged 0.6% higher to $5.03. The insurance giant's shares gained 6% in the regular session after the company said it will suspend dividends for its common stock.

By the way, this is not about fat cats trying to protect their trust funds. This is about trying to save some value in your 401k's, your kids college investment fund, your pension fund and maybe keeping your employer solvent.

This is not time for Congress to be mucking about and playing politics.

By the way, most of the seeds of this mess were sown during the Clinton administration. Rush had a pretty good break down on it today.

Larry King's "interviewing" Ach is probably the biggest disgrace to me of Ach's entire visit to the U.N.

I can understand his speaking at the U.N., etc., but I just don't get how he can be given a platform by Larry King. It truly is disgusting! To me it truly is as if CNN/Larry King is interviewing cHitler in the 1930s.

"So, I hear you have a new book out, what is it about?"

"...yes you have lived in numerous countries, that is very impressive, you are quite the educated man of the world.....its not every day to find a man that both fought in wars, and can write a book."

Society is so morally confused these days it really is scary. The MSM comes out as attack dogs against Palin, and McCain, and in some ways Obama......but bend over forwards for Ach. (this generation's cHitler).

Larry King is a traitor in more ways than one.

re: #515 pre-Boomer Marine brat

My two cents:

1. Ahmadinejad is a sociopath and genocidal maniac.
2. Ahmadinejad sanctions organized violence against US troops.
3. So he's a war leader actively hostile to the US.

If we think back on what Hitler did, assassinating Hitler before the war would've saved millions of people. Dietrich Bonhoeffer faced this dilemma, acted, and paid for it with his life. Once the facts line up and the case airtight, the US (let alone Israel) would be justified in putting Ahmadinejad down. He is that dangerous. But there are probably too many known unknowns right now to make assassination prudent. Timing is everything.

But there may well come a time, and I wouldn't waste any tears over his death.

Larry King is an insignificant charleton. He is trying so hard to be 'important' and to have what he says deamed 'important' but he is nothing but an old man who thinks he's a young stud and he simply looks ridiculous at all times.

US official: Major powers unlikely to meet on Iran
Published: 09.24.08, 00:43 / Israel News
Foreign ministers from major powers may not hold a meeting this week as planned to discuss a new UN sanctions resolution against Iran due to opposition by Russia to the move, a senior US official said on Tuesday.

"I don't know if there will be a ministerial meeting," he said, adding that Russia did not think the timing was right for ministers to meet on the issue. "They have made clear they are not willing to actively engage now." (Reuters)

What, exactly, would be wrong with putting a sniper outside the UN, and taking the shot if the oppertunity presented itself? Why should we give a safe conduct guarentee to a man who controls two major terrorist networks (Hizb'allah and Hamas)? I just don't see many negatives to taking Achmindinijad out.

In the end, it would save lives. Some of those lives would even be Iranian.

I would have liked to see him arrested and tried for his hostage taking of Americans. I wanted to see Arafat arrested when Clinton brought him over here fr his terrorist activities. Unfortunately, we dont get to make those decisions. The government will decide what is best in those areas. Justice will be served, it usually is, though not always as we like it. What is wrong with a civillian sniper taking him out? It is murder. The same thing we despise he and his kind for. It is never right, no matter the reason. Why bother with the justice system. And before anyone asks, No, I do NOT believe terrorists should be brought here for trial. They should be shot in the field, bu the military. Vigilantism does us no good at all.

re: #558 godfrey

I didn't say, ... don't assassinate him. (and yes, I know Bonhoeffer's story.)

I said #155 was over the line.

1. Pray that Congress does not screw the pooch on the mortgage bail out.

2. Do not expose any money in the stock market that you need to use in less than 5 years.

3. Understand that you have already lost about 30% of stock value. If you sell out now, you just lock in your losses, so you have no choice but to ride it out at this point. It will come back, but it may take quite some tome to do so, again dependent on how many games the Congress wants to p[lay on this deal. I have been spending a lot of time the last few days doing technical analysis of a lot of stocks. Many are very underpriced, cause the institutional investors are standing on the sidelines right now waiting to see if Congress can get any dumber. It's like taking the air out of a balloon.

Let's not forget that Charles' injunction against death threats on LGF is a perfectly valid business and public relations decision - it is not, however, a moral code. There is also a difference between wishing for the death of a fellow countryman who is a political opponent, and wishing for the death of a foreigner who has vowed to destroy you and everything you hold dear.

VERRRRRRY interesting.

Article says the shipping line is "run by the Iranian military".

No it wouldn't.
First, he's a figurehead. The only justice for Iran would be the disenfranchising of the mullahs from power.
Second, it would just give a big propaganda coup to everyone who says the US is evil etc and if anything give a justification for more crackdowns "against western spies" i.e. political enemies to the mullahs in Iran.

Getting zapped by radioactive cobalt and you would feel the warmth. Very hot and you're a walking dead man. A simple Geiger counter and you would be able to ascertain the presence of radiation.

Chemical burns would be another issue entirely. Heard that the US might be interested in paying the ransom just to have a look at the cargo. If any of our folks are involved with this mess, go safely.

or (b) this Hijacking story is a coverup.

I think it was really hijacked. Them Somalis will tackle most anything floating. What...they have seven being held right now? And one European family caught in their yacht.

The syndicate set the ship's ransom at $2 million and the Iranian government provided $200,000 to a local broker "to facilitate the exchange." Iran refutes that it agreed to the price and has paid any money to the pirates. Nevertheless, after sanctions were applied to IRISL on September 10, Osman says, the Iranians told the pirates that the deal was off.

The terrorists have threatened to blow the ship up, so I suspect no one is eager to push that; especially if chemical agents or something else is on board.

He said that his friends are telling him that the Mullahs have wrecked the economy so bad , that many married women turn to prositution.
The Iranian News Agency even admits that by the year 2020 the unemployment rate for males between 18 & 29 will be 52%.
A dangerous situation, which is one reason why Iran needs external enemies.

Nusery rhymes are often sick and demented, isn't it odd we sing them to our children?

Many nursery rhymes actually had their origin as political comment, spoken in a sort of rhyming code that was readily understood by the people of the day. "Mary, Mary, quite contrary" is a reference to Mary, Queen of Scots, IIRC.

Let's reduce this election cycle to an algebraic expression.
Barack=O
Biden= B
McCain=M
Sarah=S
POTUS=P

Here we go:
O=+1
B=-1
M=0
S=+1

Our equation becomes:
O+B=0
M+S=1

To put it together we get. O+B+M+S=P

Need I say more!

re: #646 sparrowlake

Does anyone here really believe it is morally wrong to wish for Ahmadinejad's death? Or to celebrate it if and when it occurs?
Let's not forget that Charles' injunction against death threats on LGF is a perfectly valid business and public relations decision - it is not, however, a moral code. There is also a difference between wishing for the death of a fellow countryman who is a political opponent, and wishing for the death of a foreigner who has vowed to destroy you and everything you hold dear.
And besides, whaddabout this?

It's one thing to wish Ahmadinejad wasn't on this earth, but it's completely another to start talking about (to name a few things from deleted comments):

* his plane blowing up

* putting poison in the UN green room food

* taking him out with a sniper rifle

I hope the difference is clear: one is justified dislike of Ahmadinejad and what he stands for, and the other is over the top. If it's not clear to anyone, I suggest not posting something if you think it might be deleted; that will save both of us time and aggravation.

The market has priced in that there will be SOME kind of plan, but they couldn't have priced in "the" plan, because nobody knows yet what it is. Devil in details, etc.

They priced in a multi-year Resolution Trust type plan.

I'm just wondering why Iran (or some other country for that matter that would like these types of weapons getting into the hands of Terrorists) doesn't just "accidentally" lose them in the hijacking manner.

Then state to the world that they are a victim, and it was never their intent to get the weapons to the Terrorists.

I should add that during OIF, there were theories that Saddam's WMD were moved to the Shebba Farms area. With all the Hiz'b'smallah presence in that area now, and the Iranian connections in the region, I wouldn't be surprised in the WMD ended up in the hands of Iran.

Maybe the nuke threats are a diversion.

Seriously, all this fantasizing about Ahmadinejad's demise is juvenile.

Again, he's the public "face" of the Iranian gov't, and he's certainly the loudest one, but the reality is that he isn't running the Iranian military or the covert nuclear program. He could step down tomorrow, and it really wouldn't change much in terms of Hezb'Allah, covert nukes, or Iranian guard activity.

The relevant one is "Supreme leader" Khamenei (who nominally is in charge of all Iranian military activity), along with his gang of mullahs.

re: #41 lifeofthemind

He needs SIOPS, not Psyops, 20 targets, 200 kt each. 20 minutes.

Now, now. Some things just aren't funny. Nukes come in that category. In German, they're classified as Massenvernichtungswaffen. That's a mouthful, but a literal translation back into English would be mass obliteration weapons. And that's just what they are. It may perhaps come to this, that 20 targets get obliterated by weapons of 200 kt...which is to say, each 15 times the yield of the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, killing somewhere in the rough vicinity of 100 thousand people.

Now maybe those targets wouldn't be smack in the middle of dense populations. But maybe they would be. Just beginning to think about it is gut wrenching. Ahmadinejad is our enemy. The Republican Guards are our enemies. But he and they are stomping the people sitting there, heads down, trying to go about their lives without running afoul of the secret police, the religious police, the informers, and the thieves and druggies, as the Iranian economy sputters and grinds under the burden of the mismanagement of the economy and the cost of Iran's nuclear weapons program. These people cannot contribute to Iran's war effort. They have no fabrication skills, and the money for that war effort comes from Iran's oil, not from their work. They have nothing left over, after subsistence, with which to pay taxes.

We have to find a way to prevent Ahmadinejad from getting nukes, because we cannot trust him to be sober and merciful with such power.
We have trusted the Soviets, the Chinese. France, Britain, Israel, India, Pakistan. The list might be a little longer, if you included everyone that has or ever did have nuclear capability. But Ahmadinejad, by his own words, has put himself and the government that serves as an extension of his will, outside the wide circle of grudging trust.

But we also have to act soberly and mercifully. There has to be some way to stop things from getting to the point of nukes thrown in anger at cities.

If there isn't any peaceful way to stop it, well, peaceful means aren't the only means short of nuclear war. Any middle path will be expensive, bloody, and hugely unpopular. But resort to nukes would be far worse. We face some unhappy times and grim choices.

Amir Taheri nailed it when he likened Ahmadinejihad to a character in an old Persian folk tale. Note the similarity.

That tale is woven around its hero Ali Golabi (Pear-shaped Ali) who is a small chap with big ambitions.

The bigger chaps in the neighborhood dismiss him as a midget, bully him whenever they can, and never offer him a seat at the table in the teahouse that is their haunt. So what does Ali Golabi do? He goes around waving a big knife, making a big noise, breaking a window here and there, and, occasionally, even strangling a street cat to show his strength. His agitations annoy the big chaps who want to sip their tea, puff their hookahs and play a game of backgammon in peace.

Nevertheless, Ali knows where and when to stop. As soon as the big chaps come out of the teahouse to confront him, he declares that he has already done whatever he had wanted to do and is now ready not to do it again. This helps ease the tension and gets Ali off the hook — until the next showdown.

The simplest (if not easiest) way to level the Iranian nuke program is to drop the price of oil, which is pretty much the only thing propping up the Iranian economy right now.

The Iranian regime can't stand indefinitely in light of an ever-worsening economy.

The other way, of course, is to physically destroy the program.

WASHINGTON — The FBI is investigating four major U.S. financial institutions whose collapse helped trigger a $700 billion bailout plan by the Bush administration.

Two law enforcement officials said the FBI is looking at potential fraud by mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., and insurer American International Group Inc.

A senior law enforcement official says the inquiries, still in preliminary stages, will focus on the financial institutions and the individuals that ran them.

Officials say the new inquiries brings the number of corporate lenders under investigation over the last year to 26.

Surprise! Axelrod and Ethan Winner Worked Together in Previous Campaign

In 1996, a group of investors penned Proposal E in Detroit which allowed for casinos. The investors hired the firm Winner/Wagner & Mandabach to study the chances of passing that proposal. As told in an article written by Laurence B. Deitch, an attorney for the proposal supporters, the Winner firm later led the media effort to help pass the measure. It brought in several outside media and communications groups.

A video from the Detroit Mayor's office produced by Mayor Archer's political consultant David Axelrod was noted as a key part of the Winner directed effort. This revelation places Axelrod in a direct working relationship with the Chuck Winner PR firm in a past campaign.

Well, it looks like it's going to come down to just 3 states in the northeast that will determine our next President. Specifically the heart of the Rust Belt: Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. Every projection and poll I've seen shows every other state firlmy in one camp or the other for most of this election season, giving 245 solid votes to McCain and 235 solid votes to Obama.

What this means is that the race will come down to whoever gets 2 of the 3 states mentioned* (Florida is just not in play, despite what Dems may think of their chances there). Ohio seems likes it's leaning towards McCain, while Michigan looks pretty good for Obama. I believe Pennsylvania will be the true battleground, like Ohio and Florida before.

*There is the slightest possibility that McCain could lose two states and still win anyway, but only if he can wrest Colorado and New Mexico away from Obama; but McCain is slightly vulnerable in Nevada and West Virginia, potentially cancelling that out. No, I don't expext too much shake-up in the western states or West Virginia. It's Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Once those three contests have been decided, the night is over.

re: #822 lizard by the bay

Then bring on...... We Don't Need No Stinkin Coal Biden

re: #703 Charles

It's one thing to wish Ahmadinejad wasn't on this earth, but it's completely another to start talking about (to name a few things from deleted comments):

* his plane blowing up

I fully support your policy on this, Charles, and I think the line is actually fairly clear between expressing what is no more than a generic curse, and engaging in detailed scripting of the precise manner of his death. The latter type of speculation is best expressed, if at all, in a more private forum.

Something that has never happened (and will never happen) in the history of the world: A developing nation is devastated by natural disaster, people are starving, utilities are gone, the countryside is in anarchy, and the country's leader's shout, "For Goodness' sake! Somebody send the Iranians, Russians, and Venezuelans to help us, please!"

Hmmm, I wonder why that is...

re: #732 Sharmuta

Can someone help me out? I can't remember what movie (or was it a TV show?) where a little girl had the thought that the best thing to do to bad people would be to make them good- then they would feel bad for the bad things they had done.

What is this from?

Although it's probably not what you're thinking of, it's similar to the curse placed on David Boreanaz' vampire character, "Angel," from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series.

In the show's mythology, when a human becomes a vampire, their human soul leaves the body, which is what allows them to kill humans for food without regard. In the show's backstory, Angel had been cursed by gypsies about a century prior to the current day, after killing some particularly beloved princess of theirs. The curse restored his soul, which then caused him to be eternally tormented by the memory of all the death and destruction he had caused as a vampire.

Yes, I'm a geek.

Now, does anyone know any gypsies who can place such a curse on a few of our prominent Democrats?

The simplest (if not easiest) way to level the Iranian nuke program is to drop the price of oil, which is pretty much the only thing propping up the Iranian economy right now.

The Iranian regime can't stand indefinitely in light of an ever-worsening economy.

The other way, of course, is to physically destroy the program.

I agree.

Well, my little Pippens, there isn't going to be a Shire, nor an Israel or a London, Paris will be a glowing ruin. McDonald's and the idea of a delicatessen will be distant impossible dreams along with kids around the Christmas Tree and Passover Seders. We will enter a new world order of death, collapse and nuclear contamination, 100 Chernobyls dropped right into the populated west. If you want to live, you will farm, or die. Computers, lawyers and fashion designers will be instantly obsolete. You will fear newcomers for the disease they may carry; without medicine, you will be defenseless to even mild trifles like the flu. The debate will no longer be about abortion but retroactive birth control: if you can't pull your weight, your own family will have to give you the Old Yeller treatment.

China, Russia and Venezuela will not live to enjoy America's disappearance: their populations will decline 60-80% very quickly and it won't be from people dying peacefully in their sleep. The entire world economy will be gone and with it US food exports. It will truly be the world of Walter Miller's Canticle for Liebowitz, perhaps without the two headed mutants crushing skulls while shouting "EAT!" but it will not be a world of Motzart and ballet recitals.

Ahmadinejad is war. He has been at war with us for 30 years. He is a criminal murderer of his own people. He seeks to crush us down so low we never come back. He has sworn a holy oath to destroy us. By the tenets of his faith he has done all he is required to do- he sent the "nice" letter to Bush asking him to surrender and convert America to Islam. When Bush, not being an Islamist or clinically insane, and unable to even know how to respond to the letter, did not respond, by Islamic law, Ahmadinejad is free to destroy us. And he has a fatwa, from some Islamically challenged nut of a cleric approving nuclear world war. He meets with leftists, Neturi Kartas, Peace Councils and Service Committees, anyone willing to help him destroy enemy #1 is welcome to the party; they can be useful tools in blinding the West to the danger and running interference for him while his nuclear plot ripens, then they die with the rest.

The clock on diplomacy ran out months ago. Wars cost money and require a nation willing to wage them. Even thought the US is facing a nuclear monster and a threat to our vital interests, the Bush administration is not behaving like they are prepared to strike. Perhaps Bush is just waiting until November 5 but when you read reports of al Qaeda gearing up to strike the US you might conclude that Iran uses attacks, like the strikes from Lebanon in 2006, to distract and bait the enemy while the nuclear program spins on. The Israelis, 90% who fully understand the danger but have limited power to bring to bear 2000 km away, fear the uncertainty of a war that, if they don't win, spells their doom.

If all of this is too depressing, sorry, but you need to understand what you are facing. Only by seeing the darkness and understanding its true nature can we see a path past it to the light.

We have not been defeated. Our military is not just strong; it is the mightiest force on this earth and our enemies rightly fear what we can do with it. We have won in Iraq and have 100,000 troops we can roll to Tehran in three weeks; thanks to the surge and the reconstitution of the Iraqi army, our forces have little to do. And we are wealthy, even if we spent $10 trillion defeating this monster, our nation will be whole and we still have $80 trillion in wealth to pay for the war. We can take the fight to this monster and break him before he breaks us. He is fragile and his regime is fragile; his own people, given half a chance, would kill him in a heartbeat, slaughter him like a hairy Musolini.

We see the monster- we must destroy Ahmadinejad and his regime or die ourselves. The choice is a world with us as we are or the new world he will make for us.

859 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Wed, Sep 24, 2008 7:08:35am

A Canticle For Ahmadinejad

Energy, as we have all learned this past year, is the basis of all wealth. Everything we do requires it to make or transport. We need it for virtually all we do. No energy; no wealth. If the Hirsute Hitler is still in power this time next year, you better have your survivalist gear ready and your bug-out bag packed and loaded at all times because either he, and his regime, goes, or nuclear war is a certainty.

If Iran gets the bomb they will use it and millions upon millions will die. Imagine a world with seven or eight smashed major cities and tens of millions dead, hundreds of millions out of work, the global economy knocked back seventy years and US life expectancy dropping by 35%, a month. Imagine a world where transportation is the thing of the few new kings, oil or fundamentalist robber barons who subjugate us all in a Mad Max post-nuclear world where everyone knows who runs the town. The idea of a family vacation to Disney will be a distant impossible dream, an absurd memory, a notion of a world that no longer exists. Tom Friedman's book title will only have one thing right, it will be hot. The world will be as round as ever but there will be few planes in the sky of the new flat irradiated earth.

We are on the verge of being hit with a war crime, murdered and then systematically enslaved and broken. That is their plan. That is their dream. When this monster talks about the end of America that is what he means. The only things standing in the way are the US Military, the last days of the Bush Administration and John Sidney McCain. Barack Obama can be counted on to sign any articles of surrender they choose to stick under his nose (as Mr. Ledger put it this summer, I know a squealer....).

I know the beast far better than it even knows itself. Ahmadinejad is an Islamic O'Brien, he completely believes he can levitate off the floor, if the occluded Imam wills it. Untroubled by science, reason or a conscience, he strides on with the pacifist left enabling him exactly as they did Hitler and Stalin before him. Different century, same shpiel: America must not hurt this man of peace, we don't understand his rhetoric and besides, the Jews.... This is textbook of the disease of genocidal dictators. Mao giggled as he told his people to stop complaining, they had plenty of food. Even in late April '45, Hitler believed his super-weapons or the need to fight the Russians would buy a reprieve.

Homosapien Totalitarianus is on display for all to see. This creature is extremely dangerous to scapegoat species, political opponents and neighbors. The bombs that brought an end to WWII were crude small powered things; they still smashed entire cities to dust in an instant. The bombs of 1945 saved millions of Japanese and American lives and acted as a warning to humanity of the danger of nuclear weapons in the wrong hands; Ahmadinejad is the living definition of the wrong hands.

Every totalitarian leader lives to be the culmination of their ideology; this spawn of Amalek is a card carrying suicide bomber and one would not be surprised if he already has done his martyrdom video explaining why he launched nuclear weapons. Our fundamentalist freak would only be too happy if he destroyed the West in a Khomeinist Gottdammerung. Why else does his regime keep his people are poor, hardly investing at all in long term infrastructure all the while they rake in billions? The cash goes to terrorism and nuclear weapons, they have spend $10 billion arming Hezbollah and Hamas while unemployment in Tehran is at 20%! You are what spend on.

So he giggles and demand "reparations" even though he personally oversaw the murder of hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of US casualties and, under the classic totalitarian method of "no matter how in the wrong you are, always demand an immediate apology."

The single greatest moment of truth in Peter Jackson's The Twin Towers is when Pippen tells Merry not to worry, they'll always have the Shire; Merry replies there won't be a Shire.
