The present bill is a fucking disaster. Welfare for deadbeats and big companies. Let the collapse begin. And let Bill Clinton, the most economically challenged President since Carter, explain his legislation.

I honestly think that a bill is in the works without all the pork such a Reid added.
I think there will be a bill done today and McCain will be triumphant at the debate.

Some other quotes attributed to Bob Hope:
I have to much money invested in sweaters.
... and particularly relevant to today's news:
A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it.
I love to go to Washington - if only to be near my money.

Possible Catalyst/Solution to MANY PROBLEMS:
McCain calls a press conference, to "...announce the 73-Word Report."
Works on, aiming to get a financial relief bill for America; MSM broadcast cryptic "73-Word Report"...
Press conference time comes up, and McCain addresses the 'journalists' and videotapers and reporters:
"This Report has 73 Words total, including this introduction. We cannot pass this bill to rescue legitimate American financial institutions in trouble BECAUSE Mr Obama, Mr Raines and Mr Frank were instrumental in helping Democrats set up this problem, and are obstructing efforts now to deal with this problem. For full details, Mr and Mrs America, go to [Link: [Link: www.DoubleDealingDems.com...]...] and download your PDF. Any words missing and you know the news media have twisted this Report."
End of Press Conference
The PDF is downloaded by millions, and the MSM gets its damned grip on truth BROKEN.

Hi all:
NY Nana is having a problem with this damn Dell/Hell computer. She loves to listen to a number of radio stations on the computer. Lately most of them will not play. When we right clicked on the player that opened but did not play, and clicked properties, they all say Windows Media Player. I therefore called Dell non-support as Media Player was installed by them. Dell support had me allow the technician to see our computer. After a bunch of fiddling for about 15 minutes he said that he knew what the problem was but as the computer was out of warrantee I would have to pay immediately to have him do the repair: $269 for 1 years service (4 calls), $69 for the one call, or $15 per month. I politely told him to shove it.
Does anyone have any idea how to correct this problem? I am not sure if this started when Windows Media Player 11 was installed. Do you think that we should un-install Media Player and then re-install?

First off, I doubt there are any Sikhs on school boards in America.
Second of all: if there were, why wouldn't they be able to wear the ceremonial dagger? A school board meeting doesn't have a cockpit that can be highjacked.
Hell, in certain states, I wouldn't be surprised if people wore their guns to school board meetings.

Gotta be honest, I never gave much thought to the NRA in my life, aside from the vague impression, back in my moonbat days, that they were "gun nuts." But in this election cycle, they're an ally I'll gladly have (especially in Ohio and Pennsylviania).

I think Moe Katz in his #43 was asking about American "school boards" in the same sense that we in the US would say "school districts". (Not sure but it makes sense that way ;-).)
Apparently Canadian schools are forced by a court ruling to allow male Sikh students to carry ceremonial daggers to school with them, with the predictable problems now happening. Multiculturism is the gift that keeps on giving.
Moe, I doubt very much that any US school districts anywhere are real thrilled to have kids running around school with 13" kirwans. Some districts are so far into the "zero tolerance for weapons" bit that they've been known to suspend kindergartners for having water pistols, nailfiles, empty cartridge cases.... We're at the other end of the spectrum I guess.

Syl, I phrased that badly. It may be 'districts' in Canada, too. I was basically wondering, yes, if the zero tolerance policies so common in the US would preclude the sort of thing we've seen in Canada. Thanks.

No panic here, just a very clean, very pure desire to calmly get my arms COMPLETELY around what has happened to our Country's Financial markets over the last 13 days. I know that most of you think that this is an impossible goal given the complexity of the STREET, but right before us at this very moment emitting flat screen light and an ability to communicate with nano-second key strokes is this marvel of the 21st century! We can collect information to guide our decisions and our opinions... and most important (at least for the time being) we can share this information with each other.
For instance,
"QUESTION" (In the future, to save time I will just say Q?)
Q? What seems to be the most obvious vector for the current state of this Country's financial system. Was it a specific event within the stock-market , if so, what was the trigger to this event? Was it a series of triggers and if so what movement by individual firms or statements by individuals within each firm triggered a specific series of events?
See, with these lap-tops and PC's WE have the ability to de-construct a goodly amount of time-line to where we find ourselves at this moment. And we NEED to before this next election. I have some hunches as to what this all means, but in all honesty, it sounds like a couple of chapters from a Clancy novel. This is serious shit, I refuse to launch into the stratosphere on something so life changing to the nation as a whole. I have truly enjoyed this site Mr. Johnson and the fine lizards that people it. Thanks for allowing me to post here even after the 3rd glass. But folks, we have work to do and damn little time to do it in.
I sense a great danger close to America, but I am not afraid.
I am respectfully,
The Night watch

Good morning/afternoon/evening/night, Lizard Nation!
Before I dive into the threads below, I got to tell you that the reporting of yesterday's derailment of the bail-out plan was reported in such a way by the BBC that I sent them a complaint.
Here it is:
"In BBC Breakfast this morning, and again in a photo on your World News page about the U.S.A. bail-out plans, you report and show in striking preference photos of the candidate of the Democratic Party, Barack Obama.
The candidate of the Republican Party, John McCain, only gets a brief mention and is not shown.
This is blatantly one-sided reporting, especially since it was the Democratic Party which has for years hindered President Bush from dealing with this issue.
Even more unfair is that there is no mention that John McCain's proposed legislation two years ago was derailed by the Democrat Congress.
I am not an American citizen and live here in the UK - but if I can find out these things, then your journalists in the USA should be able to.
After all - this was reported on FOX News in the USA yesterday, not to mention in various blogs. I do assume that your reporters are familiar with using the internet!
Blatant one-sided reporting is not what one usually associates with the BBC - I am stunned that this is going on to such an extent that a candidate for the election of President of the USA, namely John McCain, might as well not exis as far as the BBC is concerned..
Shame on your reporters, editors and producers!"
Fuming in Wales...
(No, I didn't sign off with that, but it describes my condition!)

Good morning :) As far as the BBC goes, they and all too many "news organizations" - properly read propaganda organs - are firmly convinced that no election is necessary and that Barrak Hussein Obama is already POTUS. And they are even rigging the polls.

It appears that McCain was temporarily out maneuvered by the dems.
[The Belmont Club quotes Politico]
It was McCain who had urged Bush to call the White House meeting but Democrats made sure Obama had a prominent part. And much as they complained later of being blindsided, the whole event turned out to be something of an ambush on their part—aimed at McCain and House Republicans. “Speaking professionally,” said one Republican aide, “They did a very good job.” When Bush yielded early to Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D- Nev.) to speak, they yielded to Obama to speak for the assembled Democrats. And it was Obama who raised the subject of the conservative alternative and pressed Paulson on what he thought of the idea. House Republicans felt trapped—squeezed by Treasury, House Democrats and a bipartisan coalition in the Senate. And while McCain spoke surprisingly little after asking for the meeting, he conceded that it appeared there were not the votes for the core Paulson plan without major changes.
[The Belmont Club quotes ABC]
Paulson walked into the room where Democrats were caucusing after today’s meeting at the White House and pleaded with them, “Please don’t blow this up.” Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chair of the House Financial Services Committee was livid saying, “Don’t say that to us after all we’ve been through!” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “We’re not the ones trying to blow this up
[Wretchard notes the bottom line is extortion by the dems]
Who you gonna call? Who you gonna believe? Bailout anyone? A crisis creates an incredible opportunity to play partisan politics. ‘Want me out of the way? Buy me off.’
I suspect we are seeing a well planned financial ambush by the dems. They want to scorch the country financially to win the election.

You know, I am damned sick of that "stupid Americans" meme. We are smart enough to feed half the world. Smart enough to land man on the moon. Smart enough that every major cure for every disease and virtually all modern drugs have come from our shores. Smart enough to put a telephone in every hand and a TV in every living room as well as a car in every garage. Smart enough to put a computer on every desk top and in the hands of every school child. Smart enough to invent modern production methods. Smart enough to build the Panama Canal. Smart enough to cure polio on dimes collected by housewives and pennies collected by children. Smart enough to fund the rebuilding of the entire economy of Europe after World War II.
When Europe manages to accomplish anything other than periodic universal destruction by way of internecine warfare then they might have something to talk to us "Stupid Americans" about. In the meantime, they should shut the hell up and start footing the bill for their own defense.

This is very true. I hear Tennessee is no better. Plenty of gas here in New Enland and the price has been steadily dropping for a month or so now. Not even a blip for the hurricanes. Though I think that may have something to do with President Bush's order wiping out all of the individual state designer gas requirements. (About time that happened. Too bad it is temporary.)

No, I meant run on the tank. A scenario that some of us remember very well from the 70's. Rumours get started about running out of gas because of this or that, so people drag every car they own down and fill it up to the brim, resulting in huge lines and a complete emptying of the storage tanks at the gas station. Leaving no gas to sell until supplies are renewed - and each of those underground tanks can hold an entire gas tanker's worth of gas.

Antiviruses only pick up viruses for starters. Worms/trojans are not viruses and most antivirus program will not detect them. I had an antivirus running on this machine when I got infected. Comodo. Replaced that.
Norton and McAfee are not worth the discs that you buy them on. AVG is now bloatware that takes a huge amount of RAM to run and slows down the internet greatly by prescanning every page you look at. Antiviruses are generally only as good as their definitions are up to date, so in many cases your update from an hour or two ago might very well miss some new iteration of something. I prefer an antivirus that has an heuristic function - operates on the principle that if it looks like a duck and acts like a duck, it is a duck until proven otherwise.
I replaced AVG with Comodo when AVG went to 8.0 and I could barely load a page. When I got Virtumundo, I went looking for a more reliable antivirus, one that did not take a gig of space and an entire 512 MB of RAM just to operate. I ended up with ESET - tiny footprint, has everything you need then some. Still on the 30 day trial but I will likely buy this one.

I remember the days all too well. The unemployment lines that went round the block, the $2 limit on gas purchases that were barely enough for some folks to move the car from one line to the next (luckily we had one of the first 250 Pintos sold in this country and $2 would fill the tank, which was then good for about 450 miles). Not pretty.

NO, no no no no! I have a router. Two actually. One to interface with the internet and another to provide a wireless LAN. That does nothing for your email or stuff embedded in pages you visit or things you download. You NEED an antivirus. And a software firewall.

Kaspersky doesn't load the system down too badly and it learns from experience so as to consume fewer resources when checking something repeatedly.

By the way, this system is SP3 and runs just fine. SP3 is basically just a roll-up of a lot of individual security fixes, AFAIK. It's still basically SP2.

Virtumundo copies itself onto the other drives. (So it will also be in that special segregated compartment where your XP backup files are.) And writes itself into the registry. It loads - period. And it is hell in a handcart to get rid of. Of course it is a trojan, not a virus.

How strange. Our particular Pinto was made in Germany and had a Porsche engine. I don't remember what German Ford was calling the model, but we had rented one for a summer tour with my parents while we were there. Dad worked for Ford at the time and when US Ford decided to give Pinto a whirl over here we got one of the first few they brought over as a trial balloon. Boy that was one heck of a car.
All the guys in their big honkers would pull up to my little roller skate at the light and rev up that great big V8 engine - and I would leave them in the dust. The looks I would get were priceless.

Give Kaspersky a try, they have a one-month free trial, and it's a top-rated program. Very light on system resources.... Trojan Horses are a subclass of viruses, and extremely hard to get rid of, I agree.

Thing is, while jokes told amongst a tribe can be screamingly funny, they can become quite hurtful when told by 'outsiders' who, moreover, belong to a tibe which is eprceived as supressors.
Thus, these sheep jokes are severely frowned upon in Wales because they're usually told by the English and used as a means to denigrate and belittle Walians, especially as there are more sheep in Wales than humans ...

It is exceedingly strange to me how soon so many in the Jewish community have forgotten. I used to be completely unable to comprehend how virtually the entire Jewish community of Europe could fail to see Hitler's grand plans and how that would apply to them, how they could keep passing things off for so long. German Police Seize Suspects on Plane
[Link: www.nytimes.com...]
Excerpt:
BERLIN — German police boarded a Dutch airliner Friday at Cologne-Bonn airport and seized two suspected terrorists who had been under surveillance for several months, police told German news organizations.
A special unit of German officers arrested the two men at 6:55 a.m. local time and, in a related operation, found apparent suicide notes at their apartment, a police spokesman was quoted as saying. The men were not identified by name but were said to be a 23-year-old Somali and a 24-year-old German of Somali descent.
Michaela Heyer, a police spokeswoman, said that, contrary to initial reports, the airplane was not stormed by police. “The arrest was entirely unspectacular,” she said. There was “no indication” that either man was carrying explosives or weapons.
The police boarded the plane shortly before it was to take off and took the two men into custody. They were “suspected of wishing to participate in jihad and possible attacks,” she said. She declined to give further details because the investigation was continuing.

Dutch Government: Fitna cause for Netherlands as "Preferred Target" of Islamic terrorists.
Cologne, Germany - German police commandos boarded a plane at Cologne airport just before it took off for Amsterdam and arrested two terrorist suspects Friday morning, police said.
A 23-year-old Somali man and a 24-year-old German man born in Somalia were arrested before the KLM flight left the airport, a spokeswoman for North Rhine-Westphalia state police said.
Police spokeswoman Katharina Breuer told The Associated Press that officers boarded the plane at 6:55 a.m. (0455 GMT) and arrested the men without incident. She said authorities do not suspect the men planned to abduct the flight.
Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper, citing police sources, said the two had been under observation for months and a suicide note was found in their apartment saying that they wanted to die for the "jihad" or "holy war."
Earlier this month, the Dutch government's anti-terror chief warned that the country remains one of the top targets for Islamic terrorist groups because of publicity surrounding a lawmaker's anti-Islam film.
The National Coordinator for Combating Terrorism said in a report the film "Fitna" by lawmaker Geert Wilders has made the country a "preferred target."
What a stupid statement.
Call it what it is: An averted suicide plane hijacking.

Before we get too smug here, can anyone remember a couple of salient details that prevented the Jews from getting out of harms way, i.e. most of them didn't have the money to leave, and even if they did, where exactly would they have gone, since most countries - including the United States - would not let them in.
Not to worry, though. You would be surprised how many people in the survivor community have a bag packed, cash (or gold) on hand, passports ready, and dual citizenship - just in case.

The thinking threads I've been on all night generally reach the conclusion that the Paulson/Dem bailout will not go forth. They say look more for a McCain loan setup with the profits from same going back into the Treasury, and no ACORN gimmie like Reid/Pelosi tried to stick in. Also say goodbye to the student loan/carloan boondoggle and Reid's Oil shale ban.

Good morning LGF friends.
I have to get ready for work this morning, but I wanted to drop in for a minute and tell you to watch for an alternative deal on this bail-out thingy.
Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) is a fantastic fiscal conservative who is working with others like him for an alternative that makes sense. He is ranking minority member on the Finance and Banking Committee. (that may not be the actual official name - I can't recall) He is against this original bailout plan.
Some people ask - who can I trust in Washington ? I trust Paul Ryan. He is a good man, a good representative, a strong conservative family man and a Christian. He even has called me at home when I have had questions or concerns. He was wonderful to me when Little Winger was deployed the first time.
I trust him and if he comes out with a plan I would take a good look at it.
Take a deep breath and have a good day.

Cross-posted from an earlier thread:
ACORN is an organized criminal enterprise designed to steal elections through organized fraud. Obama, who is an alumnus of the organization, wants to grow it into a communist "advocacy" group for poor people, supported by taxpayer dollars. In fact, he likely will use ACORN as the foundation for his "community service" mandates for our young people.
Can everyone spell "communist indoctrination" through youth organizations? That's how appalling this proposal is, and the GOP already has set a horrible precedent by agreeing to earlier government payments to ACORN.

re: #240 opnion
FNC has a panel of pundits on right now.
Mark Green of "Air America" said that McCain has no busines coming back to DC because he has missed so many votes during the campaign.
Ed Cox, a McCain state chair, said that the senator is putting country first.
Kirsten Powers, rolled her eyes & said, "Oh please"
Where to begin?
Let me see if I got this right, McCain and Obama campaign and miss votes. FM &FM go belly up, causing a freeze in any kind of credit availability and McCain says he's heading back to get an oar in. Reid says we don't want you here. Obama says that he doesn't see where he can be of any help so he's gong to continue to get ready for the debate but "If you need me, call me." 4 hours later Bush tells Obama "Get your ass back here, you're the titular head of the Democratic Party" They all meet with Bush. McCain defers to Graham since he's been doing all the spadework. Pelosi/Reid pass to Obama who proceeds to turn the meeting into a shouting match. There is some sort of nuance I seem to be missing.

They could have ignored them, taken a vote and won. HOWEVER, if the whole thing was a bust then Republicans could blame Democrats. They need some kind of consensus.

Good Morning folks.
Prepare for the market to implode today.
I can't believe I am watching this happen before my eyes.
Yesterday we had a bail out deal that seemed to be all but done and the market was rebounding nicely on the basis of that.
Then comes the afternoon meeting at the White House and a train wreck.
This idea by the House Republicans of offering insurance for the mortgages will not work. It is way too late for that. It's like giving a band aid to someone having a heart attack. These banks need these loans off their books now, today. Not insurance, not incentives. There is no time for that to work.
The credit markets are frozen right now, today, and businesses can not get short term financing for their business needs like financing their accounts receivable and inventories. We are damaging our economy billions of dollars a day with this frozen credit.
I look for the DOW to drop below 10,000
I anticipate more banks, and I mean a lot more to go belly up cause of this screwing around in Congress.
If you have a 401K, you just lost another 20% of your savings at least.

It occurred to me yesterday why this is happening. The democrats/traitors have found a way to prevent any future military action by either Bush or McCain as well as finally guarantee a loss in Iraq. They bankrupt the United States which results in a 50 to 70 percent defunding of the US military and blame it all on the Republicans.

According to NRO, This was the last press release before Washington Mutual collapsed.
Company ranks in top ten of Hispanic Business’ Diversity Elite and earns perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index
SEATTLE, WA (September 24, 2008) – Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM), one of the nation’s leading banks for consumers and small businesses, has once again been recognized as a top employer by Hispanic Business magazine and the Human Rights Campaign.
Hispanic Business magazine recently ranked WaMu sixth in its annual Diversity Elite list, which names the top 60 companies for Hispanics. The company was honored specifically for its efforts to recruit Hispanic employees, reach out to Hispanic consumers and support Hispanic communities and organizations.
The Human Rights Campaign, the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) civil rights organization, also awarded WaMu its second consecutive 100 percent score in the organization’s 2009 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which measures progress in attaining equal rights for GLBT employees and consumers. WaMu joins the ranks of 259 other major U.S. businesses that also received top marks in the annual survey. The CEI rated a total of 583 businesses on GLBT-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination policies and domestic partner benefits.
In both surveys, WaMu earned points for competitive diversity policies and programs, including the recently established Latino, African American and GLBT employee network groups, all of which have a corporate executive sponsor and champion.
“Diversity is an integral part of cultivating a welcoming, innovative and dynamic workplace here at WaMu. We are proud to be recognized for the opportunities and benefits we offer to all of our employees, including the specific efforts we have made to engage Hispanics and the GLBT community,” said Steve Rotella, WaMu president and COO. “We are committed to diversity at WaMu and pledge to listen to our customers and work closely with our employees to continue to make progress.”
These two recent honors build upon diversity recognitions WaMu received earlier in 2008. WaMu was named one of 25 Noteworthy Companies by Diversity Inc magazine and one of the Top 50 Corporations for Supplier Diversity by Hispanic Enterprise magazine.

Good morning (I hope)... now here's an interesting rumor...
According to Gingrich and Dick Morris on Hannity and Colmes, McCain has killed the Paulsen bailout and will present his own version, which will require the government to lend, not give the money, and regulations will be reformed and taxes will be loosened to help them pay us back.
Both Gingrich and Morris were giddy. They both said McCain has shown that he will stand up to anyone--including the president--to fight for the country, and he's changed the argument: Now, the Dems support giving a trillion dollars to the Wall Street "fat cats," as they called them over and over, but McCain has refused, in the name of the taxpayer.
Both Gingrich and Morris said that McCain had utterly and totally pwned the Dems, who will be forced to support McCain's plan.
McCain will then go to the public and explain that Obama supported the bailout, but McCain crafted an alternative, despite immense pressure from the president and the Department of the Treasury.
As a bonus, McCain stood up for the conservative wing of the party, not the moderates, as everyone expected him to do. Both Gingrich and Morris said McCain has totally won the argument.
Let's hope it all pans out this way.
Morris said that he's never seen anything like this: McCain, the man of principle, united with the most effective campaigners in the history of American politics.
He was as excited and happy as I've ever seen him.
Is this real or is somebody blowing smoke?

It's no wonder we can't ever have good decisions made in Washington when >50% of brainpower is spent trying to develop a plan that is politically expedient with no regard to solving actual problems.
To me, it seems like the Dem Party looks at any crisis as a political opening. They engage in wholesale Sophistry, blaming the other guys for their foul ups

Dive from the fourteenth floor

When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me
When Black Friday comes

Gonna strike all the big red words
From my little black book
Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do but feed
All the kangaroos
When Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill
You know I will
When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul
Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll
When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna stake my claim
I'll guess I'll change my name

the problem I see, or lack of thought process, in the obama supporters (my brother for instance) is the following "he's got to be better that what we have" now this financial crisis plays right into the hand of this thought. "republican president? all his fault! republican= all thats bad" they conviently forget the dem controlled congress and other influences.when you ask the ones with this thought process, but maybe it could be worse under obam? answer..."how can it get worse!" well it can, and obama will show the way. now taking my brother, makes a 6 digit salary, and he thinks obama is going to treat him better?..lol..I'm working on him though, he is a vietnam era Marine, so at least I got him to admit that he has great respect for McCain. My current mind meld on him now is I tell him under obama his beloved Marine Corps will be a shell of its former self. trying to flank him on that angle..lol
