You scared me Charles. I thought it was starting now, and I don't have my popcorn ready.

The GOP had a good one setup for the convention. Maybe they'll have something similar tonight.

Waqf Insulting Every Jew In The World By Physically Attacking Them If They Pray On The Temple Mount? = no coverage.

Waqf Insulting ONE Muslim By Asking Him To Recite Koran Verses to Prove He Is Muslim? = coverage.

Don't know of one, but I'll probably just be following the erudite commentary of my betters on LGF anyway. Lehrer's spoon-feeding of softballs to 0, and the furious maneuvering to get the follow-up comment are just going to be too tedious for me to take, live. I hate these "debates" like Nixon hated them.

Oh....this is rich.....

Later, in a speech to the General Assembly, Abbas deplored as "racial terrorism" what he said were daily attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian civilians, and urged the international community to take action.

You would think the Palis would be able to at least export manure given all the bullshit they have piling up over there.

U.N. Security Counsel To Discuss Israeli "Settlement" Building.

The building of homes on 'disputed' land, still more offensive to the U.N. then the murder of innocent civilians, denial of the Holocaust, the advancing of terrorism, and Arab Anti-Semitism.

When a non-Muslim goes to the Temple Mount, they are followed by Muslim "employees" of the Waqf. If they believe you are praying, it WILL get ugly.

With so much riding on the election and things (still) this close, I'll relax Nov. 5. Either that or buy some new guns to cling to while I still can, should things break the wrong way. If Husseinovich does half the things he threatens^Wpromises to do, a good hunting rifle and skills in stalking mooses and squirrels will at least put meat on the table.

As much as I enjoy doing the blow-by-blow with you guys, and barring a tirade from my wife, at my continued inattention,
my experience with the McCain acceptance speech (that I got it better the second time just watching the TV) makes me think I should focus in on this more closely than I can when I type and read posts.
I may give it my full frakin' attention.

( of course some people would say that this just makes me even more susceptible to the TV mind control rays, but I try not to think about that.)

According to the logic professed by the Phakestinians, the resulting attacks by individuals who have lived on that land for multiple generations, under constant attack by others that wish to remove them from that land, and take their homes should be considered acceptable resistance.

"Palestine" is Judenrien; while Israel allows full citizenship to non-Jewish Arabs.

Paul Kanjorski (D, PA-11): “I don't know that we included them in enough"

Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) on Friday suggested Democratic leaders did not solicit enough input from House Republicans on the financial rescue package.

[snip]

Asked whether House GOP lawmakers are right to believe they were slighted, Kanjorski replied, "I don't know that we included them in enough, and that's always a dangerous thing in politics. Remember, you're dealing with egomaniacs. We're all egomaniacs down here."

[snip]

Kanjorski said, "Now, what we have to do is open that door for the House Republicans, bring them on in and say, 'Guys, you know, we can't cast your idea aside.' Let's listen to it ... I think we have to allow them to talk their idea out. We have to be willing to listen."

It's part of the art of politics and a good pol can get away with long winded answers in an interview....the MSM calls it being 'thoughtful.'

With a side-by-side comparison with straightfoward answers from McCain, however, the dynamic changes. If BHO obsfucates or plays the 'blame Bush' card too much, he will be totally exposed.

We'll see. It could be that BHO surprises us. They are certainly playing that expectation game.

The Palin Song

(with apologies to Judy Garland)
(From the musical Meet Me in D.C.)

Sarah:
With my drop-dead figure
and my drop-dead looks
and my hair piled high upon my head

I'll get the Presidency,
White House residency
when John McCain drops dead!

Vote vote vote go the rednecks
Plop plop plop goes McCain
Me me me in the White House!
Then you liberals will start to feel pain

You'll worship God
We'll pray in schools
I'll teach that Darwin and Copernicus were fools
Your one-night stands
will have a price
You'll catch motherhood along with the crab lice

Democrats:
With his left-wing mantra
and his light brown skin
He's the One we've dreamt of all our lives

We're not about to let some
MILF like you upset him
So darling out come the knives!

Lie lie lie go the bloggers
Smear smear smear goes the press
Down down down goes your polling

As election day nears we will play on the fears of the left!
We will leave you bereft!

Sarah:
Don't you count on it
I stole your meme, I'm a dream, I'm the cream of the crop!
All the way to the top!

Obama beat Hillary by out organizing her. With the debate situation unresolved this morning, I finally learned that it was on via Instapundit.

Normally I get 2-4 e-mails from the McCain campaign per day. Today, I got one, an invite to a $39K dinner for Palin in mid-October. No preparation work at all.

This is just lame. Someone dropped the ball bigtime. I'd hate to see McCain lose because The One out organizes him. Attention to detail is endemic to every older aviator I know. This is not the Naval Aviator I knew.

Don't know who these people are, but check this out: [Link: www.freepress.net...]

I suspect the Obamatrons will be there in force.

I just don't understand it. Don't people in public office feel ANY obligation to pickup a history book, ever? I mean, I knew when I was 12 or 13 or so that Herbert Hoover was President when the stock market crashed and that FDR wasn't elected until the Depression was under way.

And incidentally, the Depression didn't start right after the crash. It took a few months for it to get into full swing.

IMO, BHO (with his media supporters) also out-debated Hillary by making Hillary look shrill. Likewise, appearances are th biggest pitfall for McCain, too. McCain can give all the right answers but look like a jerk. BHO can give all the wrong answers, but look like a nice guy.

Here's the moderators for the upcoming debates. I trust there won't be any bias in the questions or the frame and tone of the debates:

Sept. 26 -- Jim Lehrer of PBS
Oct. 2 -- Gwen Ifil of PBS
Oct. 7 -- Tom Browkaw of NBC
Oct. 15 -- Bob Schieffer of CBS

I never thought I'd see the day when a Presidential debate was national entertainment.

I really don't think so. Lehrer is a liberal, but I've always found him to be relatively fair. Same with Gwen Ifill. I agree with DeafDog. But even if Obama gets only fat, slow pitches, do you think those watching (besides us) won't notice and react? They noticed Gibson's condescension and ABC's terrible editing. 51% think the media is in the tank for Obama. A pretense of fairness at least is what Obama needs.

Obama's job is to hijack the debate off foreign policy and onto domestic policy.

McCain's job is to let him -- just enough for McCain to say, "Gee, if the American people had seen how you took control of the President's meeting -- turning what you thought was a done deal into partisan recriminations and acrimony -- they'd see you're even weaker on domestic economic policy than on foreign policy, and that you have no credibility in bringing people together across party lines."

I saw it on the link on his lawsuit against City Bank for red-lining in 1994.

If that was the name he used why is it verbotem to use the H? (That is a rhetorical question)

I'm sure CNN's not happy with syndicated Navarette.

Commentary: McCain has his priorities straight

Some in the Obama-friendly media were quick to dismiss McCain's move as a political stunt. I don't know. It's not like launching one's candidacy in Springfield, Illinois, in the hopes of conjuring up comparisons to Abraham Lincoln, or moving one's convention speech to a football stadium to accommodate a larger crowd.

I think McCain deserves applause for having his priorities straight. For the past several days, the media and members of both parties have been scaring the daylights out of the American people by calling this the most serious economic crisis since the Great Depression.

re: #27 mailmars

I really wish McCain would have passed on this unless there was a solid deal.

I don't think Mac's statements about participating tonight had anything more to do with the debates than last month's leaks about pregnancy and the Palin family had to do with the upcoming RNC Convention.

Remember how the monolith in 2001 was floating incongruously about in Jupiter space, and the astronauts were flummoxed as to what it was and what it was about? Turned out the only reason it was there was to direct attention to the place it was IN (the stargate), it wasn't DOING anything else there at all.

All this attention by Mac was similar flag-waving to direct attention to the debates, imo, not to why he will or won't be there. As I've said before, Repubs have only one way to reach the voters, and that is to leap over the heads of the MSM, and talk directly to them. Mac effectively used the MSM's own negative talking points about his 'debate gaffe' against them, with that meme flowing all over the airwaves and newpapers hyping up the country's interest in tuning in. The voters must hear the difference between leftist ideology and the principles upon which this nation was founded (and that presentation is Mac's primary job tonight - NOT clever zingers and personal attacks)... It was the Palin dynamic, all over again.

re: #143 Dalibama

Where did the H in Barack H. Obama go? Apparently down the memory hole.

Barack H. Obama was his name when he belonged to the Chicago law firm.
I saw it on the link on his lawsuit against City Bank for red-lining in 1994.

I had never noticed that before. Of course that was before 9/11. I wonder when he dropped the H?

If that was the name he used why is it verbotem to use the H? (That is a rhetorical question)

iirc very early in his campaign he showed that he was very out of touch w/ the american people. he bragged that he was going to run for potus as barack hussein obama.
he actually thought that he could be the one who could bring everyone together w/ that middle name. that he could be the one to heal us and bridge the gap btw us and "them" (w/ understanding .)
well that didn't last long.
as it was a very obnoxious ridiculous presumtion. very quickly he saw the middle name was a huge liability. he dropped it like a hot potato. he misjudged america.
it reminded me, sort of, of the screaming dean who hollered abt. how he was going to get everybody's vote and that included southern rednecks w/ gun racks in their pick ups. arrrrrwwww.
now i think you can get arrested in st. louis county if you even whisper the word hussein.

Russian Military to go on "Permanent Combat Alert"

Russia is to build new space and missile defence shields and put its armed forces on permanent combat alert, President Medvedev announced today.

In a sharp escalation of military rhetoric, Mr Medvedev ordered a wholesale renovation of Russia’s nuclear deterrence and told military chiefs to draw up plans to reorganise the armed forces by December.

He said that Russia must modernise its nuclear defences within eight years, including the creation of a “system of air and space defence”.

The announcement puts Russia in a new arms race with the United States, which has infuriated the Kremlin by seeking to establish an anti-missile shield in eastern Europe. The US argues that the shield is aimed at rogue states such as Iran, but Russia is convinced that its own security is threatened.

Mr Medvedev told military commanders that “all combat formations must be upgraded to the permanent readiness category” by 2020. He added that Russia would begin “mass production of warships, primarily nuclear cruisers carrying cruise missiles and multi-purpose submarines”.

thrift
A financial institution that derives its funds primarily from consumer savings accounts. The term originally referred to those institutions offering mainly passbook savings accounts. But the industry evolved through financial deregulation to the point where these accounts often provide only a small source of funds for many thrifts. The term often refers to savings and loan associations, but can also mean credit unions and mutual savings banks.

Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy has been transported to a Cape Cod Hospital, FOX News has learned.

His condition was not immediately known.

The ailing Democratic senator has been undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumor, after he was hospitalized for a seizure in May.

A captain in the Hyannais Port Fire Department confirmed that Kennedy was taken to the hospital Friday evening.

I think Sarah Palin's looks matter far less to Republicans and conservatives than Obama's matter to his supporters. What excited conservatives about this pick was Palin's political philosophy, stands on the issues, reformer reputation, etc. That she is attractive is a bonus, but I honestly don't think people care about it as much as you imagine. In fact, as we see it can be a bit of a liability, since the Left is all too willing to abandon its so-called "progressive" values and equate "attractive" with "empty-headed."

I was never stating that the Conservatives were voting for Palin simply because she was a fine piece of azz. I was just pointing out how disgusted I have been with people commenting on her looks as if they mattered.

Its not a statement on any one person individually, but my concern for the Country in general. We need to become a bit more mature of a nation, success and an easy life has spoiled us.

But seriously, who cares how "hot" our politicians are? Is the POTUS spot nothing more than a High School election?

Our Country is acting shallow and empty when we do this.

What, having a Beauty Pageant? Are you a femanazi? ;-). I don't know about you but a Smart, Beautiful, Conservative, Republican, Huntress, is freaking extremely attractive to me. I would vote for her over McCain in a "Heartbeat".

A bit more detail about Ted Kennedy now....

Kennedy taken to hospital from his Cape Cod home

HYANNIS PORT—Sen. Edward Kennedy, who has been in treatment for brain cancer, was taken to a hospital near his Cape Cod vacation home after complaining of feeling ill.

Barnstable police Sgt. Ben Baxter said the 911 call from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port came at about 5:10 p.m. on Friday.

Baxter said Kennedy was then taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital. Baxter said Kennedy was "alert and responsive" during the trip.

Representatives of Kennedy and the hospital did not immediately return calls for comment.

re: #328 Egfrow

I'll re post the link here. Meet Sarah Heath (Palin) in an eighies style one piece swimsuit. I bet the Left is going to make a big deal out of this.

Sometimes, the left reminds me of a sociopath. They don't understand anything of the average American, and their imitations of same are mask-like. My guess is most people, if they watch this, will think "wow," we are going to have a gorgeous veep. The deep thinkers will recall that she entered the contest to garner money for college.

As far as I'm concerned, any woman who can walk in heels without tripping is amazing. How much more so to do it in a swimsuit in front of a crowd?

Also, maybe I'm not an average woman, but as a female, I have no problem with a woman being attractive, and I certainly can appreciate beauty when I see it, whether it is a man, a woman, a cat, the Empire State Building at night, or a sunset.

When I was in college, I pinned up a pinup pic of a man from Playgirl. My parents and aunt came to visit. When they saw it, my aunt said "a thing of beauty..." - then my father finished with "is a joy forever." I think appreciation of beauty (and a sense of humor) runs in the family.

re: #377 WrathofG-d

My comment is not against beauty pagents, but against the comments I hear often about how "hot" Palin is.

I think the essential lesson on this is that our initial reactions are with our "lizard brains." Most people react initially to the reproduction and survival characteristics of a situation or person. Sure, we move beyond that and use emotion and logic to form a response, but we still have that initial reaction, and we embrace, with our lizard brains, positives for reproduction and survival. It's built into our brains. Some people just put voice to it.

From the Corner: A psychologist is looking for other psychologists to study the phenomenon of Sarah Palin. Her query:

"Psychologically (NOT politically) speaking: What makes Sarah Palin
such a polarizing figure? How is it that she hooks into people
(especially women) so strongly? Does she show signs of having
borderline personality disorder or narcissistic personality
disorder? Is that why women have such a strong emotional response
to her? I would particularly like to hear from therapists whose
female clients have been discussing Palin in their therapy. Also,
do you have clients who are strong Obama supporters while their
husbands are for McCain Palin? How is that affecting their
marriage? Short emails are fine: I will be conducting phone
interviews."

A) Don't they have the wrong narcissistic candidate? and
B) doesn't that violate a patient's right to privacy? and
C) is she implying all women are narcissists, or at least Palin's supporters?

T-56 minutes and counting until the start of Barack H Obama being taken out to the woodshed by a man of REAL experience in foreign affairs and national security.

Oh, and by a man who puts his country first, and not his own election.

LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!

in the blue corner, weighing in at 132 lbs, with no recorded fights to his credit, the Chicago cheater, Barack "call me if you need me" Obama! Obama.

and in the red corner, weighing in at 160 lbs, with a stellar record of achievment and putting country first, John "The American Hero" McCain. McCain.

/okay so maybe i'm a bit keyed up for this.

re: #529 yah

I had not thought of that before. I bet you are right. I never trusted polls in the first place.

A lot of polls have been heavily in favor of the loser in the past.

re: #542 Luigi

Shep smith gives a little historic perspective and recaps the Kennedy Nixon debates of 1960 -- the first televised debates. Shep says "Kennedy won an extremely close election, possibly helped by that new window in America's living room."

He should have said: "Kennedy won an extremely close election, possibly helped by filthy Chicago politics that brought him Illinois."

Now, that would have been poignant and relevant to today.

The media is trying to play up that Obama/Kennedy connection. Funny how this first debate just happens to be on the anniversary of the Kennedy/Nixon first ever televised debate. It's said that those who just heard the radio debate thought Nixon kicked Kennedy's ass while the TV folks said Kennedy won the debate mostly because they were enamored by Kennedy's youth and good looks. Obama never tires of picking dates and places to do things so that he gets the historical comparison...Obama/Lincoln...Obama/MLK, especially when there's no comparison.
