True- but it greatly increases your chances of not stinking.

Exactly. One of the things that it depends on is whether riding a bike is your passion. Another is the size (and stability) of your bank account.

Hey Charles, how about a Paul Newman thread today. I know he was a lib, but he was a great actor, as well as a kick-ass race car driver (I saw him in 1979 working as a crew member on a Formula Atlantic car, at the SCCA Regionals at the old Great Southwest Airport in Fort Worth) and winning Can-Am and IndyCar team owner along with Carl Haas.

Paul Newman article from today's AutoBlog

Paul Newman takes last laps at Lime Rock on August 13th

53 Cap'n DOC  Sat, Sep 27, 2008 1:16:32pm

I read this on another blog, and decide I couldn't pass it up - poster's name is Anonymous...

If you can't elect a guy with
-no negative record
-a deeply unpopular President
-a mainstream media 200% in the tank for him and unwilling to report on anything remotely negative about him.
-99% of the african american vote
-a current deep financial crisis that he and Congress can blame on Bush
-no active security issue on the table
-Hillary Clinton essentially out of the picture
- a Democratic majority in Congress
-Oprah

then he absolutely, 100% sucks. The situation could not possibly more in his favor unless pictures of McCain fondling prepubescent boys were found.

I guess my only question is what is the percentage of the vote is African American? What is the percentage of those who will never vote for an African American? What is the percentage of those who would vote for an African American under any circumstances?

From the article you linked to"“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

Delhi again under Jihadi attack .... 2 killed, 25 injured

A 13-year-old boy had his head blown off when a bomb dropped by two young men from a motorcycle exploded in a crowded market in the Mehrauli area. Seventeen people were injured, many seriously in the congested Mahrauli Sarai electronic market in the city's southern outskirts. The bomb exploded during the afternoon rush.

The bombers, believed to be in their mid-20s, wearing jeans with their heads covered by helmets, sped away on a black Pulsar motorcycle according to eyewitnesses. A similar motorcycle was found abandoned elsewhere in the city.

Police said the dead boy, Santosh Kumar, picked up the bomb concealed in a lunch box and wrapped in a black polythene bag and tried handing it back to the motorcycle riders, thinking they had dropped the packet by mistake. As the bomb began emitting smoke, the frightened child dropped it and tried to run away. But within seconds, it exploded, killing him and felling many men and women in the vicinity.

I don't think McCain did what he could have to Obama. He could have torn him to shreds on many, many things. He didn't call him out enough. I was a Romney supporter during the primaries and I would think that he would have torn Obama to shreds on the economic questions. That was obviously McCain's weaker (at least in public perception, unfortunately we have to think like most of the oblivious out there) showing out of the two topics.

Have neighbors (big libs) had a billboard sized sign a few years back. Republican punks painted penises all over it (think it was a Kerry sign, might have been Gore). They put video cameras on the sign.

Damn sign must have cost them 1,000.00.

Arrest punks from either side. Jail them until the day after the election.

I agree. Nobody should steal or deface anybody's signs. It is just childish.

Let things unfold, let the shock of the news set in. Let the truth of what actually caused all this get out. And let McCain get his bounce for his performance in the debates.

Then let McCain and Republican affiliated groups unleash the fire of Obama's past on him in the last 2 weeks.

In the end, it'll come down to turnout. Even if a state is a leaner towards Obama, are people who are, "eh, Obama I guess" really inspired to make the trip down to the polls?

Hmm, let me amend that. I think McCain will veto bills that have ridiculous spending, I think he will take a stand against growing the federal government. This will make him a great president.

The left are disturbed.

Several thousand people showed up to protest Iran last week. Most were actually there to support Governor Palin. Not many democrats I'm sure.

Several hundred leftists plan to protest an appearance by Governor Palin on Oct 3rd.

Ignore the next Hitler, a man who has killed millions and wants to kill millions more, and vehemently protest an American Governor running for VP.

The left are truly disgusting.

The protest in NYC this year was a shadow of the one last year, about 1/10 the size. Pritzker had a party for him and the media is silently complicit and they will remain that way.

If anyone needs another bit of proof that "fundamentalist" Islam is terrorism, read "Nationalism, Secularism, Apostasy, and Usury in Islam," by "Prof. Dr. Ala'Eddin Kharofa," published by A.S. Noordeen, ISBN: 967-9963-92-6. Kharofa makes the usual defenses of Jihad as "fighting the disbelievers," including offensive attacks and killing apostates after giving some, not all, a chance at "tauba" (repentance). But if the apostate does not repent, or if the apostasy involves "insulting" Muhammad, then he is to be killed.

By the way, Kharofa is an Iraqi and originally published this book in 1994. Imagine that: Jihadist theology and politics in Iraq before 2003. Don't be surprised if the man has Al-Qaeda contacts....

Some stayed home due to the lack of politicians at this year's event. The political celebs really do draw the crowds at these things. Some dem partisans do not want to undermine their candidate's "let's negotiate" position by hating on Iran, some conservatives were very insulted that their support was deemed unwelcome.

If Hillary hadn't had such a cow (been such a cow) about Palin and the dems could control their hatred of her for a couple hours the event would have been huge and would have been high profile.

I would hesitate to bring up the African-American issue with them, but I would certainly marshall all of the facts concerning the two men's records when it comes to women and women's rights. Starting with the guy the women in the Tailhook incident turned to for justice - John McCain. Who has more women on his staff than Obama does and pays them more than Obama does his female staff. Get a small digital camera and take their pictures. If you can lay hold of the kind that will do a short video, tape them while you are at it. Make sure that you get their names - and badge numbers if they are wearing a badge. Ask for identification before you exchange any words or information with them and make a show of your own of prominently recording that information.

Two can play the intimidation game.

(That is all public information in the Congressional record.)

I didn't bring it up. I mentioned to them that Obama would cost us several thousand dollars a year in taxes if he's elected.
They said that it was worth it.

So I asked if they would mind paying for my tax increase too since I would be voting for McCain.

I think even more influential is the public education system, and then on top of that universities and colleges which are very left wing as a rule. In fact, these are the entities that make the msm what they are.

That is also a huge contributor to the herd-like mentality of the left. I was just commenting on the African-Americans that they worked with.

I fear that you are right. The Donks feel it's their right to rule America and they will hang on to power anyway possible, even if it means the destruction of America.

Or next time I will show them my Police ID or my State Police ID. I'm on a few boards that give me a little power if I want to use it.

You do NOT have to put up with that. Even if you rent, no one is allowed to disturb your "quiet enjoyment" without your permission. Call the police. Serve them with a No Trespass order. In many states all you have to do is post a No Soliciting sign on your property and you can have them arrested. Be sure that you do exactly that.

Too bad old Beets only wrote one violin concerto. He just couldn't be bothered to write any more.

Was listening to some Camille Saint Saens "Carnival of the Animals" Aquarium Suite this morning. Announcer said that he wrote it for a party and it was never supposed to be played again.

He was not happy when it became popular, and would not allow it to be published until after his death.

I said "Right. Anybody satisfied so far in your polling?"

I have returned to Washington to resume negotiations with the Administration and Congressional leaders from both parties to forge a bipartisan solution to our economic crisis. I never get a call from polsters anymore. I must be on some black list.

Me either. We have Vonage, which gives me lots of control over who gets to call me and who doesn't. Unknown folks don't get to call me. I don't answer calls where I don't recognize the name on the caller ID either. And when I say hello and get that dead air indicating a computer called me, I hang up faster than you can say boo. I did have one ass call me right back and scream at me that I couldn't hang up on him - he hasn't called again.

I feel no compunction at all to be even moderately courteous to telemarketers, pollsters and the like. When they pay the phone bill then they can demand my attention.

"Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain."

Watching todays events, I can only conclude that this country has become unmoored from it's foundations.

We are on the verge of electing a self-avowed socialist, and half the country cheers that prospect.

"[The socialists declare] that the state owes subsistence, well-being, and education to all its citizens; that it should be generous, charitable, involved in everything, devoted to everybody; ...that it should intervene directly to relieve all suffering, satisfy and anticipate all wants, furnish capital to all enterprises, enlightenment to all minds, balm for all wounds, asylums for all the unfortunate, and even aid to the point of shedding French blood, for all oppressed people on the face of the earth.
Who would not like to see all these benefits flow forth upon the world from the law, as from an inexhaustible source? ...But is it possible? ...Whence does [the state] draw those resources that it is urged to dispense by way of benefits to individuals? Is it not from the individuals themselves? How, then, can these resources be increased by passing through the hands of a parasitic and voracious intermediary?

jwb7605 (#294),

I got called by a "poller" today (phone).
First question was the archtypical "do you think the country is headed in the right direction?"

So I said "Of course not. Why do you people ask loaded stupid questions?"
Poller said "Well, we're trying to determine the satisfaction level".
I said "Right. Anybody satisfied so far in your polling?"
Poller said "No, not really".
I said "Thought so. In which direction are people dissatisfied? Too far Left or too far Right?"
Poller said "We don't ask that".
I said "I'd say your results on the questions are pretty meaningless, then. You're discovering 100% of the country is dissatisfied, but you don't know about what."

The conversation deteriorated from that point.

And what value does that have anyway but for a headline?

The very reason so many people hang up or BS polsters.

One of my nephews recently applied to the graduate school of engineering at University of California, San Louis Obispo. He was eventually told his application was not properly considered by the admissions committee because the admissions office "lost" his application twice. One of my sisters, his aunt, is a conservative activist. I've advised him to re-register as a Democrat and join the local California Young Democrats Club and apply elsewhere. I have no doubt he got blackballed by UC SLO which is the reddest of all the UC campuses.

re: #299 Macker

I'll bet you got him really pissed off!

By the end of the call, probably. He spent the rest of his time trying to figure out if I was a Republican or a Democrat, or a liberal or conservative.

Another question was "would you consider voting for Barack Obama, or John McCain?"
I said "Yes, I would consider voting for one of them".
He said "Which one?".
I said "One of the two choices you gave me."
He said "Which choice?"
I said "Obama or McCain, if I heard the question right. Bob Barr and Ralph Nader aren't on my list, but you didn't include them".

So he said "Do you consider yourself a Republican or a Democrat?"
I said "No."
He said "Well, then are you an Independent?"
I said "No."
He said "What other choices are there?"
I said "I'm registered unaffiliated."
He said "Is that conservative or liberal?"
I said "Sometimes, but not usually."

This went on for about 90 seconds more.

I don't know if he was pissed off or just frustrated when the call ended.

Different topic, but a friend of me has a house on a golf course; his house backs into the right side of the fairway. People are always coming by with those ball retriever things and reaching over his fence. So he got some golf balls with a stake on them, so he can drive them into the ground. These are typical Brown Shirt intimidation tactics. They forget the Americans are not Europeans and that we have an entirely different mindset. By the way, you might want to go out and take pictures of the condition of your automobiles in light of the fact that they were recording your plate information. Which I assume they intend to use to dig up other personal information on you so be careful and keep an eye on things like your credit report.

I'd suggest to make daily photos in the morning.

Option 1:
When they knock, open your door with camera in hand. Take as many shots as you can, up close and full frontal. Then follow them to their car and take a few shots of their car and license plates.

Option 2:
Open door with gun in hand, held loosely by your side. Assume "bitter" facial expression.
Do NOT take any shots.

Nope. Another officer killed him as he was fleeing the murder scene. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

No, Moonlight Sonata.

The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor

I was thinking about music today. How shall we console ourselves if our nation should falter and, with Obama as president, go the way of European nations into decline? I repair to Hegel when considering these questions of national demise and/or transformation, and I mind myself that Hegel was a rough contemporary of Beethoven. The two share a similar dynamic--Hegel to the dialectic and speculative reality of philosophy; Beethoven to the dialectic of explicating the theme amidst its variations.

Nevertheless, when we must discuss the purest moment of universal abstraction in ethical life, Kant remains the paradigm; and, similarly, in music, when we must behold "beauty bare," only Bach's Art of the Fugue will sing with contrapuntal voices unsullied.

Left really bugging me today...

Now that Sarah Palin has become the anti-feminist for those small minded shrills who occupy the lunatic left, those who cannot comprehend that conservatism and women's liberation are not mutually exclusive notions, they're really reaching in their attempts to demonize her.

Their tiny angry minds refuse to understand that not all liberation is equal, and that liberated women can be both conservative and liberal.

No problem for Erin though

"But it's not about politics. I don't pick a person because they are a Republican or a Democrat but for the person. I like Obama. I like McCain. Both have strong points".

Her real beef is neither capitalism nor industry, Democrats nor Republicans, she says, but greed."

There once was a techie (Lao Stinky)
Who banned trolls with the flick of his pinky
Said he, with some sorrow
"Don't come back tomorrow
I'll ban you AGAIN, in a winky!"

Instructing the Rightness of How

For work and for fun
Without ever starting a row...

The truth is he's always here

Me ? Like Obama. Surely you jest ?

He's the most vaccuous excuse for a politician I've yet to see.

God I wish I was American just so I could vote for Mc Cain instead of him (actually Fred Thompson's my choice, but sigh, waddya gonna do ?)

416 Karridine  Sat, Sep 27, 2008 6:11:09pm

'The time has come,' Lao Stinky said
'to speak of many things...
of ravages and savages
and how they hate The King...

And how the limerick leaves a line
And where that line can sing
Of antelopes and cantaloups
But NAUGHT of racist ring!'

And with that did the Stinky Lao
retire for just a time
to ease his head
perchance to bed
in search of one last rhyme...

OK .. but you did say that you like Obama but I will forgive you for that :-) Fred would have been over McCain for me also. I few months back I use to think the Obama would be a guy I could sit down and have a beer with but not any more.
