48 Dianna  Tue, Sep 30, 2008 9:09:53am

re: #32 bosforus

It's got to be on some sort of network to get hacked. I'd bet against it. Probably all local, no network. Remote controls for teleprompter, probably IR - line of sight. It may not even be on a computer, might just be a flash card:

[Link: www.autoscript.tv...]

Anyone got the specs (make, model, etc.) for it?

51 Honorary Yooper  Tue, Sep 30, 2008 9:10:35am

When I saw Iowahawk's work yesterday, I thought some wizard with a video editing package could put Barack's face on Al Pacino in the "Scarface" scene...running in the foyer with the assault rifle, but this time with a teleprompter, positioned so you could read it and it would say something like "Say hello to....ugh, ugh, ugh, ummm, ugh,...MY LITTLE FRIEND!"

Could be kinda funny, ya know....

[Link: www.autoscript.tv...]

I'm embarrassed to say I run a teleprompter, for what that's worth. The programs we use are windows based; text is input by a producer, not the operator (I'm a a tv station.) The talent likes to be able to see the operator, although that's not always necessary. The broadcast program we use is based on a rheostat- it's all very simple insofar that you're moving a small wheel- wheel moves faster, text moves faster. Wheel moves slower, text moves slower. When the program fails (and it does do that, usually because of odd keystroke sequences by the producer) the text rolls to black. There is nothing there.

Easiest way to screw with talent is to mess with their teleprompter operator. Get them drunk, flash them during the show, that sort of thing. The teleprompter op is the person sitting with a screen full of just text in front of them, and some kind of hand control, usually with a wheel. If the operator loses their place, the talent is completely screwed.

Most professional anchors can actually cope if their teleprompter goes out.

Certain politicians? Not so much.

95 Izzy Dunne  Tue, Sep 30, 2008 9:38:38am

Afraid? Not consciously, not afraid as in fear for their welfare. Gutless, yes, like a bully is gutless. They love being popular, they love their own mythology and drama, they love accolades and they love group thinking, group approval, group excitement, they more than all else love power in whatever form, including sadistic power over a scapegoat.

They are the Ministry of Truth, devoid of character, integrity or conscience. Or, less dramatically, they are immature in the scale of moral and intellectual development, not self-actualized or realized but merely
