It is very comforting to believe that leaders who do terrible things are, in fact, mad. That way, all we have to do is make sure we don’t put psychotics in high places and we’ve got the problem solved.

Contribute $2 to SOLDIER'S ANGELS.
Doesn't cost you a dime.

Here's how this works
One vote = $2

Vote for your favorite one of our Squidoo partner charities, in the poll below.

For each vote, we'll give that organization $2.

It's that easy.

We'll do it until October 15th,

New at zomblog:

The Greenlining Institute: Does the financial crisis have its origins in Berkeley?

Yesterday I followed a link to a new article by Matthew Vadum which named The Greenlining Institute (among similar nonprofits) as the actual cause of the current financial crisis threatening the US economy. I did a double-take: The Greenlining Institute? You mean the one in Berkeley? Answer: Yes. The very same.

[pic of Greenlining Institute headquarters.]
I (and countless other people) often zip past the nondescript office on Berkeley’s University Avenue containing the Greenlining Institute — one passes it on the way in and out of the city, as University leads from the freeway to downtown and the U.C. campus.

Unlike most people, though, several months ago I took note of the office as I passed it one day, and asked myself, “The Greenlining Institute” — what the hell is that? When I got home, out of curiosity I googled it and spent a couple minutes trying to decipher their Web site, to little avail. A very few other scattered articles seemed to indicate that the Greenlining Institute existed solely to bully banks and financial institutions into giving loans to otherwise unqualified minority borrowers.

...etc.

Anyone know where I can find a video of Gore's infamous sigh and rolling of the eyes during the first presidential debate of 2000? I've always heard about it but have never seen it myself. I'm not turning anything up on youtube.

24 cliffster  Tue, Sep 30, 2008 10:46:14pm

To:
Janet H. Brown, Executive Director
Commission on Presidential Debates
RE: Choice of Gwen Ifill as Moderator of the 2008 Vice Presidential Debates

At what point does an establishment like the United States media find the collective sense of honesty to look upon itself and realize that it has strayed far, far away from what could even conceivably be considered a sense of objectivity? The fact that so many individuals working at newspapers, news stations, and other media outlets, have a very thinly veiled, if veiled at all, desire to see liberal minded people take control of our nation, is fairly well documented in the colloquial sense. The fact that those people are more quickly advanced through the ranks than their conservative counterparts, is made clear by the case-in-point of this election season - the undeniable desire of the media at large for Barack Obama to win the Presidential election.

That many in the media at large try to deny this is simply silly. But for someone like Gwen Ifill to be appointed as "moderator" of the upcoming Vice Presidential debates, is an insult to the collective intelligence of the American people. And once again John McCain has taken the high road when he should be lashing out against the clear inequity. Shame on you, Janet Brown, for allowing this to happen. Shame on you, for submitting to the putrification of intellectual discourse in America, caused by you and thousands of other media representatives that are supposed to be closely guarding the gates of objectivity among those who control information in our fine nation.

It's at the BBC. It was pretty fleeting, actually.

Go to the BBC site and search for the word "debates." They have all the highlights dating back to 1960.

They should get an academic to moderate. Someone who has confined themselves to writing biographies of Presidents who have been dead for over 50 years. The role of moderator is rediculous anyway. A timekeeper to keep track of whether one side is hogging th emicrophone makes sense. Otherwise the two adults should just respond to each other. That would make it a debate.

Boy, it almost seems as if the left in this country considers the '08 elections its final assault, does it not? They seem to have spent the last eight years scouring for the vulnerable and the weak-willed amongst us, and are ready to take it to the house, so to speak. I think they're supremely confident that the media will successfully keep their egregious transgressions of the past under wraps long enough to pull off a victory in November. Time for us all to buck up, and shove their shit right back in their sanctimonious pieholes.

9% Nancy's next ploy will be to load it up with as much pork as possible to get 12 more Dems, but it won't work this close to an election. SEC suspends Market-to-Market.

The current environment has made questions surrounding the determination of fair value particularly challenging for preparers, auditors, and users of financial information. The SEC's Office of the Chief Accountant and the staff of the FASB have been engaged in extensive consultations with participants in the capital markets, including investors, preparers, and auditors, on the application of fair value measurements in the current market environment.

... the SEC staff and the FASB staff will continue to consult with capital market participants on issues encountered in the application of fair value measurements.

Also I don't buy his "let's burn natural gas as auto fuel". If we did that, we'd exhaust our natural gas supplies. Let's keep it for electricity generation and heating homes. That will stretch out our natural gas supply much longer. I think he has money to be made with natural gas vehicles, which is why he's peddling it.

I think they're supremely confident that the media will successfully keep their egregious transgressions of the past under wraps long enough to pull off a victory in November. The Democrats will obfuscate any tangible information as to their true positions. If they said what they really want to do, what they believe, they would be laughed off.

A very large confused, bewildered, stupefied and dependent segment of the population is needed for Dems to exist.

So they just lie blatantly and consistently in order to grow and enlarge this segment.

Its like beating a dead horse, but where the hell is Obama's foreign policy experience? Have we forgotten that this guy is running for PRESIDENT, not VICE President? I mean, I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it's freakin' ridiculous and reading that article just got me re-aggravated.

Well, it would make me more comfortable if the President has foreign policy experience, but isn't the main job of the VP to sort of balance the ticket and shore up any weakness the Presidential candidate might have? McCain's strong with foreign policy so it's only natural to pick Palin who's strong on his weaknesses (age, charisma, energy, outsider, etc).

To make sure this tool is ready for the big weekend, we need to get as many people as possible to use it right now. It's super-easy to use and will really help us out.

If you have 2 minutes to spare, please pick up the phone right now and call:
(213) 221-2300

Once you make the call, you'll be asked for a page id number. Please enter:
1923 6660#

You should then enter the following information when asked:

Voter Number: 1# Call result: 70#

Voter Number: 2# Call result: 72#

Voter Number: 3# Call result: 71#

Voter Number: 4# Call result: 74#

If you have time to repeat this process a few times, please do! Just hang up and call back in.

If you get a busy signal when you call, just wait a moment and try again.
i say we do exactly what they say we should, for as long as we can.

Accusing people of things you know nothing about is extremely rude. Attempting to make someone assert that they are not a troll or moby is is a very disingenuous and intellectually dishonest thing to do when you clearly know nothing about them. The point about VP (or for that matter presidential) credentials is not knowledge but instincts.

These people have 100 advisers around them at any given moment. Who cares what the name of the prime minister of wherever is. Who cares about the names of SCOTUS cases or whatever.

What matters is that the person making the decision has good instincts and I have no doubt that Sarah Palin has better instincts than any of the other three candidates. Now if only she were allowed to run with them and not be gagged by these awful Bush minders she's been assigned.

For one thing, I am sure that if she were allowed to speak her mind she would dismiss this $$$ bailout BS without hesitation.

Lie Down with Dogs, Wake Up with Fleas

But who are those associations that, as an American and especially as a Jew, I am so worried about? Obama’s 300-plus foreign policy advisors include high-ranking people who are known for their undisguised contempt of Jews, in general, and their loathing of Israel, in particular:

General Merrill "Tony" McPeak, who Sen. Obama once considered a potential V.P., was his campaign co-chairman and top military adviser. When asked by The Oregonian to name the problem preventing peace in the Middle East, McPeak said: "New York City. Miami” – code-names for Jews. Obama refused to remove him from his campaign, but he slunk out anyway.

Samantha Power, a former senior policy advisor to Obama (before she resigned for insulting Hillary Clinton) has advocated ending all U.S. military aid to Israel. She has written of her willingness to “alienate a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import [American Jews]…it may more crucially mean sacrificing…billions of dollars, not in servicing Israel’s military, but actually investing in the state of Palestine.”

Robert Malley, a top foreign policy advisor to Obama, left the Obama campaign when it was revealed that he'd been conducting meetings with Hamas. Two years ago, after the terror group won a majority in the Palestinian parliament, Malley advocated international aid to their newly formed government. He stated that the election of Hamas expressed Palestinian "anger at years of humiliation and loss of self-respect because of Israeli settlement expansion, Arafat's imprisonment, [and] Israel's incursions…”

Rashid Khalidi, a longtime friend of and fundraiser for Obama, is a former spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Organization. According to WorldNetDaily, at a 2003 farewell party for Mr. Khalidi, Obama sat in attendance as a young Palestinian-American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism…and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. Obama has credited Mr. Khalidi with uncovering "my own blind spots and my own biases" regarding the plight of the Palestinians. Obama funneled $75,000 in grants to the Arab American Action Network (run by Mr. Khalidi's wife, Mona), a group that calls Israel's independence Al-Nakba (the catastrophe).

Anthony “Tony” Lake, Obama’s top foreign policy advisor, served in the Carter ("Israel practices apartheid") administration, notorious for its animus toward Israel. As national security advisor to President Clinton, Lake shaped the policy that treated Islamic terrorism as a law-enforcement matter, which paved the way for the first World Trade Center bombing, the bombing of our embassies in Africa, the bombing of the USS Cole, and the disaster of September 11, 2001.

Susan Rice, another of Obama’s senior foreign policy advisors, was John Kerry's chief foreign policy adviser when he ran for President. Kerry’s idea for dealing with the Middle East was to appoint not one but two diehard enemies of Israel – James Baker and Jimmy Carter – as negotiators. Faced with a firestorm of criticism, Kerry backed down and blamed his staff, which consisted of Susan Rice.

Madeleine K. Albright, Clinton’s Secretary of State, lobbied Congress for increased foreign aid to the terrorist Arafat and arranged for him to become the White House’s most frequent guest. She consistently touted negotiations, rather than confrontation, with terror regimes.

Continued...

236 littleoldlady  Wed, Oct 1, 2008 1:03:50am

Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter’s National Security Advisor, has been one of Israel’s most consistently hostile critics and Hamas’s most ardent supporters, as well as a staunch admirer (both in writing and verbally) of Stephen Walt’s and John Mearsheimer’s virulently anti-Israel book, “The Israel Lobby,” which, among other things, contends that Jewish pressure, and not shared values, binds America and Israel together. Brzezinski's son, Mark, is also among Obama's foreign policy advisors.

Lee Hamilton, a former congressman who served as the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Middle East, waxed adoringly of Arafat, calling him a “moderate” leader.

James {“F… the Jews”) Baker, Reagan’s former Chief of Staff and the first President Bush’s Secretary of State (a department whose Arabist tilt is well-known), is among the harshest detractors of Israel, has often engaged in raw anti-Semitic remarks, is known for coddling Middle East dictators (including Syria’s Assad), and has been heavily invested (through the Carlyle Group) in the Israel-hating country of Saudi Arabia. In fact, Baker’s law firm defended the Saudi Defense Minister who was sued for alleged complicity by the families of the World Trade Center victims.

Daniel Kurtzer, a former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, was one of James Baker’s “Jew Boys,” which included, among others who militated against Israel, Dennis Ross (of the Clinton administration). Kurtzer recently said: "It will be impossible to make progress on serious peace talks without putting the future of Jerusalem on the table."

And this is the short list!

re: #226 doriangrey

Well we get our share of sleepers and trolls and mobys, but you can usually spot them by their low post count.

BTW;
"outmoded interface" comments in Pat Condell: Welcome to Saudi Britain thread concerning Sharia: approx 90
Number of down dings for those comments: approx 130

Doriangrey comments in Pat Condell: Welcome to Saudi Britain thread (mostly defending "outmoded interface" and attacking anyone else who thought "outmoded_interface" was an a$$hat): approx 34
Number of down dings for those comments: approx 7

jcw46 comments pointing out in Pat Condell: Welcome to Saudi Britain thread "outmoded interface" pov was located in his rectal area: approx 13
number of down dings = 0
number of up dings = 4

So maybe I don't have a large number of comments (although my average per day so far is 2.5 which more than "outmoded interface"s average per day since they've been registered.)
At least generally my comments are more in line with rational thinking lizards here. I'll take that over YOUR opinion any day doriengrey.

Anyone remember the scene from "South Park" where they did a video of cartman talking to his dolls at a make believe tea party?
Reminds me of the "conversation" between doriangrey and "outmoded_interface" doncha think? (now I made NO accusations or claims of fact now did I?) you want rude? I can do rude.

It should also be noted that due to the way the book was written and is being promoted, if Obama loses the sales probably won't be too good. Ergo: the moderator has a substantial financial motive for Obama (and therefore Biden) to look as good as possible and Palin not so much.

I gotta say this; she's got her work cut out for her. (the moderator AND Sarah).

Sept. 16, found melamine in 69 milk powder batches. Dozens of brands sold by more than a score of dairy firms, including some of China's biggest names, have been among those tested.
Melamine can cause kidney stones, leading to kidney failure. Infants are particularly vulnerable.
Levels of melamine discovered in batches tested varied widely, from as much as 6,196 milligrams per kilogram to as little 1.3 milligrams per kilogram. Chinese health officials have said no harm comes from consuming less than 0.63 milligrams per kilogram.

Thats a relief,

Good point. Well, if they "unleash" Palin like there are rumblings suggesting as such(there are those rumblings, right?), then I think the world is in for a surprise. People have only seen the interviews and speeches she's had on a national level, but no one has seemingly ever watched her speak acting as governor of AK.

re: #256 jcw46

BTW;
I can do rude.

I think everyone reading this is already well aware of that. Should we judge you by the comments in this thread alone, well it seems you are capable of little else.

I must say I am quite impressed with the amount of energy you put into that little diatribe of yours. Looking up all that information just to prove your e-penis is bigger than mine. I also had something like 5 updings. Oh.....Five up seven down...... Again you make guesses about things you really dont have any idea what you are talking about. Just as a for instances here, five of those seven down dings were from Sharmuta, funny thing is, Sharmuta and I actually get along quite well. But you obviously dont know this.

What you, in what appears to be a consistent habit (intellicaully dishonest), didnt bother noticing or pointing out here in your little screed was that I had more individual comments with only Updings than I did with only down dings. Funny how that works eh...

Furthermore, judging for the amount of obvious anger you are pouring out here, I would actually guess that you are less in line with rational thinking lizards here then you realize and far more like a kos kiddy or a huff and puffer.

I spent the better part of that thread attempting to get people to act in a civil mature manner. You are spending the better part of your time in this thread proving that you don't have to act in a civil or mature manner. In fact, based on the amount of energy you have spent digging up information that you rather obviously failed to grasp the meaning of, the only thing you seem to be proving is that you would rather engage in flaming people you know nothing about, than actually engage in any type of civil discussion.

That pretty much guarantees that you are less in line with rational thinking lizards here than you imagine.

You know the language but you put it together awkwardly and not fluently. You have the vocabulary but use the wrong words for what you seem to be saying. You read but don't comprehend nor know what the words actually mean. Your interpretation is a function of what you "feel" was said, not what was actually said. You also have spent a lot of time over someone that you claim is so insignificant compared to your self-assumed immensity.

They are under supplied at the local Repub headquarters.
A friend of mine who is on the RNC is going to drive to Iowa to get some.
We actually got an email from the McCain Illinois campaign offering to sell McCain/Palin signs. I guess that Illinois is not really being contested, but as we know, if a Republican doesn't get a good popular vote, the Democrats say that the election is illegitimate.

Don't worry, as there will be no power the TV will no longer be an anoyance.

Rush made this observation yesterday:

But I'm just making a point here of how much money $700 billion is and how much of a profound impact it could have if it were injected into the market, into the private sector, into the hands of the people who make the country work rather than the lenders. But then Kevin at Wizbang blog says he "took it to the next level... On page 174 of the pdf [he] found an interesting table," and I can't give you the numbers of the table here; I'll just give you the results here. Numbers are hard to follow on the radio. He found an interesting table and "put the highlighted numbers into a spreadsheet to figure out just how many mortgages $700 Billion could retire if [the Congress] gave the money (back) to the people. I got this. The Bottom Line: If the Treasury simply took the $700 Billion and started paying off taxpayer mortgages, they could pay off every mortgage in the country worth less than $75,000..."

Until about 20 years ago, you could only keep a grocery store open in Roanoke, VA. Large grocery store chains (like Kroger) had to fence off the non grocery parts of the store.

Oh, you have misinterpreted what I wrote. I'm sorry - I should have been more clear. They were simply seeking public input, sort of like a poll. Then they read several letters on air.

They have no problem with journalistic ethics in this case - they are really talking up the story and pushing the point that debate moderators should at least have a pretense of impartiality - and that having a book coming out about one of the candidates is nowhere close to impartial.

Hostess was going to seat me, I said, "I'll just sit at the bar." She said, "Sir, there's no bar, this is a dry county." I said, "Thanks anyway." And left.

Went back to the hotel, picked up my stuff, canceled my rooms and moved to a non-dry county.

Hotel manager didn't even blink. Said "Don't worry about it. Happens all the time."

I was completely flummoxed that a Ruby Tuesdays would open in a dry county. I thought those restaurants depend greatly on alcohol sales.

Oh, wait. I doubt Gwen Ifill has ever even seen Fox.

Depends on your neighborhood I guess. I wouldn't want to be in Chicago.

Or any city with a moonbat population.

Why don't we all go? (I hope he's doing better. He was extremely pissed on the sharia thread.)

He showed up later. I can't say I blame him- it's pissing off others too. Instead of dealing with the topic or doing research or making any sort of an impact, we're playing games with a narcissistic moby. Almost as if it's trying to lessen LGF's impact. I'm sticking with my cone of silence, and I really hope others will do so too. Ding the whiner down and move on- we have an election to win.

Lynne de Rothschild is on Fox now if you're interested. Talking about her support of John Mccain.

I stepped on my wahoo in a major way when she first showed up. I said that she was not a self-made woman. Boy, was I wrong.
