cant watch it, ah well.

I'm voting republican because I'm a mean, gun toting racist religionist.

/Attn koz folks. the above sentence is written with a sarcastic face. I am making fun of the people who believe that all conservatives are racist, religionist, homophobic, and slightly demented. I'm really voting republican because I believe that the US should remain a sovereign nation, not be part of a world court system.

Just think: it was August 29th, the day after Obama's greek column speech, when Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain's running mate.

That was 34 days ago, today. And look at the roller-coaster ride it's been during those 34 days.

I'm voting Obama because Bush is a dictator who lied to get us into an illegal racist war so his rich oil buddies could steal from poor minorities and poison the earth because he's in the pocket of greedy oil companies and take away our freedoms and put us in a police state and let black people drown in New Orleans and melt the polar ice caps and kill polar bears and deny the sick their miracle stem cell cures! Change! Hope!

Good summation of how an Obamaton thinks.

I thought I had one of my Lib friends off the hook recently. About a month ago, she professed bewilderment over the media circus surrounding 0. I replied, in a sense, "just wait until you year about...

Will Ayers & Bernardine Dohrn
Mike Pfleger
Tony Rezco
Frank Davis
Chicago Annenberg Challenge
etc...

Then I went into issues about the media being in the tank for Obama, and told her she'd likely have to go looking for that information, as they would not likely report on any of it.

I lead her to the trough.

I could tell she was starting to turn back when she referred to Palin as white trash, only days after her nomination. Then I sent her the Glenn Reynolds (?) of that email from the media newsroom. All she could reply with was that the election "is scary. We don't know anything about Obama (I lead her to the trough) and the McCain Palin ticket is a joke." I expressed a sentiment that I thought would appeal to a bright, independent woman, that it was refreshing to see a "bright, competent woman succeed outside of the Beltway." She clearly hadn't bothered to educate herself for her vote. She didn't think of Palin as bright or competent.

Now, even though I sent her a link to confirmation that the media is admittedly in the tank for Obama, she refused to recognize that her opinion of the political climate is based on her exposure to the information delivered through the MSM.

Ron White is right. You can't fix stupid.

Sarah presents the left with a problem they did not expect. She represents you and me, the average voter. We can identify with her and her life experiences. How many candidates for public office can we say that about? Sarah exemplifies our dream to become a political candidate for any office, let alone VP. Is she not what the framers of our constitution had in mind?

The political left is reduced to howling about her lack of experience, all the while ignoring the absence of the same credentials of their own candidate for POTUS never mind the one for the VP slot.

I can only hope that the average American will see through all of this BS and elect John & Sarah come this November.

Good News - Bush just gave $25 Billion to the auto industry, they don't have to pay it back for 20 years.

WTF? How the hell much are they going to take us for? Over $600 billion last week, $700 billion for the "bailout", $130 Billion in tax cuts for anyone but us attached to the bailout and $25 billion more for the auto industry.

Let's see - that adds up to 1.455 TRILLION dollars - and I low-balled that $600 billion we laid out last week.

You know, in all seriousness, I never thought I'd live to see the day when I'd rather go through a deep recession or maybe even a depression. I've worked so hard for what I have.

But this is a bad piece of legislation, lizards. If it passes, then our banks, and investment banks weill be nationalized.

Nationalized.

One man, the Secretary of the Treasury will have the power to forgive mortgages....can you imagine your neighborhood becoming section 8?
What's to stop some schmoo, who's never had a job in his life, or even an illegal, telling the govt that he deserves a McMansion? Or that he wants a house in your neighborhood, and doesn't have the money to pay for it?

Worse, the bill allows the bailing out of foreign banks! Can you imagine one day bailing out China? Iran? Russia?

This country is going to change because of this nightmare, but do we want it to take the route that will make Soros clap with joy, or do we want to suck it up and maybe have a better chance at saving our country?

The difference is the derivative positions don't affect the stock prices, where as shorting stock does. It is possible to drive a stock price way down should you have the cash to short sufficient shares. Not so with options.

Black Monday (1987)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

DJIA (19 July 1987 through 19 January 1988).
FTSE 100 Index (19 July 1987 through 19 January 1988).
FTSE 100 Index (19 July 1987 through 19 January 1988).

In financial markets, Black Monday is the name given to Monday, October 19, 1987, when stock markets around the world crashed, shedding a huge value in a very short period. The crash began in Hong Kong, spread west through international time zones to Europe, hitting the United States after other markets had already declined by a significant margin. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped by 508 points to 1739 (22.6%).[1] By the end of October, stock markets in Hong Kong had fallen 45.8%, Australia 41.8%, Spain 31%, the United Kingdom 26.4%, the United States 22.68%, and Canada 22.5%. New Zealand's market was hit especially hard, falling about 60% from its 1987 peak, and taking several years to recover.[2] (The terms Black Monday and Black Tuesday are also applied to October 28 and 29, 1929, which occurred after Black Thursday on October 24, which started the Stock Market Crash of 1929. In Australia and New Zealand the 1987 crash is also referred to as Black Tuesday because of the timezone difference.)

The Black Monday decline was the second largest one-day percentage decline in stock market history. Other large declines have occurred after periods of market closure, such as Saturday, December 12, 1914, when the DJIA fell 24.39%, ending the four month closure due to the outbreak of the First World War,[3] and Monday, September 17, 2001, the first day that the market was open following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Interestingly, the DJIA was positive for the 1987 calendar year. It opened on January 2, 1987, at 1,897 points and would close on December 31st, 1987, at 1,939 points. The DJIA would not regain its August 25, 1987 closing high of 2,722 points until almost two years later.

A degree of mystery is associated with the 1987 crash, and it has been labeled as a black swan event.[4] Important assumptions concerning human rationality, the efficient market hypothesis, and economic equilibrium were brought into question by the event. Debate as to the cause of the crash still continues many years after the event, with no firm conclusions reached.

In the wake of the crash, markets around the world were put on restricted trading primarily because sorting out the orders that had come in was beyond the computer technology of the time. This also gave the Federal Reserve and other central banks time to pump liquidity into the system to prevent a further downdraft. While pessimism reigned, the market bottomed on October 20.

This election cycle is too long.

If it were shorter, and candidates hit harder, there'd be less of this idiotic cult of personality phenomenon, less opportunity for the media to exert continuous influence, and less election fatigue in the voter.

This election is a harbinger of many bad things. One of them (God forbid) may be the complete triumph of symbol over substance.

Old joke, but apt:

I was talking to a friend's little girl, and she said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were to be the President, what is the first thing you would do?'

She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.' 'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my sidewalks and driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food or a new house.' She thought that over for a few seconds 'cause she's only 6. And while her Mom glared at me, the little girl looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

And I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party, sweetheart."

By the way, I've written this letter that I'm planning to give (anonymously), along with other material, to neighbors with Obama signs. What do y'all think?

Dear Neighbor,

I love the diversity of our great nation, and I have always tried to respect, or at least accept, the political opinions of others. I have to admit, this election year it is very difficult to do this. Although I have voted Democrat many times in the past, and although I would certainly be honored to vote for a qualified African-American candidate whose positions I believed in, whether Republican or Democrat, I could never vote for Barack Obama. And it's hard for me to understand how any person who considers himself or herself a patriotic American, who appreciates the values, ideals, and principles (moral, political and economic) that this country was founded on, could do this.

Despite his many claims to the contrary, Obama's life has been a study in rejection of many basic American values, ideals, and principles, to a degree shockingly unprecedented in any “mainstream” Presidential candidate since the founding of our Republic. There are so many reasons not to support him for President (almost any single one of which should be a deal breaker for most Americans), that I am honestly stunned to realize that he is not only still considered a viable candidate, but is currently moving ahead in the polls.

But then, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. The media almost universally, and steadfastly, refuses to investigate Obama's background, positions, and qualifications, ask him hard questions, cover his (and Biden's) many gaffes and flip-flops, or criticize him in any way, while subjecting McCain and Palin to hostile interviews, slanting all their coverage against them, and working overtime to dig up “dirt” on Palin and even her family. They have built Obama up so much as a moderate, a uniter, a man of “hope” and “change” (and Obama himself is often so good at presenting himself in this light), that I think many people, when confronted with the hard facts about him, dismiss them as lies and smears concocted by “right wing nuts.” I have to admit, many of the individual charges against Obama seem almost too outrageous to be true, and when you look at them all together, it's easy to think, “Oh, come on! Nobody could be THAT bad. Surely this stuff would be all over the TV news and the papers if any of it was true.”

But the fact is all the charges against Obama are well-documented. Anyone can look them up, verify them, if they choose. The media is simply failing in, or more accurately, refusing to perform, its duty of covering this Presidential race and the Presidential (and Vice-Presidential) candidates objectively. If you are relying on the mainstream media for objective information about the candidates, you are being poorly served, and would do far better to get on the Internet and read the many websites, blogs, and videos dedicated to exposing Barack Obama's actual background, positions, and qualifications (or lack thereof).

I'm attaching a list of links and some articles for your consideration. I hope you will take the time to look them over and then see if you still believe Obama deserves your support.

What's the chances? The fact that it's loaded with earmarks/pork means that the chances of passage increases. The pork's in there because it's been promised to someone for their vote. It's not about whether the bill is right or wrong. It's about what the bill can do for these particular members who are on the fence.

Whether the bill does what it's designed to do is an afterthought now.

re: #288 Tigger2005

Ya know this is an excellent excellent letter.

Why do you make this so hard, McCain? Could you please explain to me why it's so urgent that we have to pass a horrible bill? I thought we were supposed to be in a Depression already if a bill didn't past last Monday.

They are using this manufactured crisis to scare us into literally becoming a socialist country. Not to mention get a whole crapload of junk that would never pass scrutiny by themselves because it so all-fired vital to pass this think without any scrutiny at all. Not a single hearing. Harry Reid
Chuck Schumer
Chris Dodd

et al

These creeps are making our founding fathers spin.

Please don't leave Barney Frank off that list, et al not withstanding, we need to get his ass out of that seat here in Massachusetts. He is one of the biggest offenders in this, and in many other ways, too. How a twit like that heads the committee he does is just astounding. We could elect any small business owner/ respected member of the community to any of the seats now held by this den of thieves, the house and senate, and get people who understand economics, from the ground up, not to mention a clearer outlook on everything else. Most of the current congress has never had a real job. They are really not that bright if you listen very closely. These seats were supposed to be held by such people, in the Constitution, it was never meant to be a career or a dynasty, passed like here in Massachusetts, from Kennedy to Kennedy. It will go to Joe Kennedy II, Ted's nephew when Ted dies. we will have really no say. We let that get away from us a long, long time ago. You were supposed to serve your term, and come back and return to your business, or to your life, and other would go and do the same. We let our congress be taken out of our hands gradually, over a century or more. We allowed it to become corrupted. People need to realize what a much better system the original plan is, a much more honest system, and certainly makes more sense, to have well known, respected local people represent their districts, for a short period of time. In this amazing technology age, there is no reason to have to lose touch with or track of what our elected officials are doing. If we went back to our congress members being who they were meant to be, and we ALL paid attention, like we were all meant to,life would be much simpler for all Americans pertaining to the workings of Washington DC.

List of Earmarks, etc… [Rich Lowry]

…apparently in the bailout bill (based on a list going around). Pretty outrageous. Isn’t this in John McCain’s wheelhouse?

New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill

- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

The real panic amongst the older set, are with those who didn't save, or started saving too late...most have a tendancy to go aggressive in the attempt to catch up and they are now freaking out because they are tanking.

The lesson here, and one I teach my kids (who have to save 10% of their allowance) is to start saving early....even if it's just 15 or 20 dollars a week. The rule of 72 does work.

That nationalized a huge chunk of our banking/mortgage industry. And of course that $700 billion is less than half of what "we" have been passing out in the last two weeks.
